Thank you for this video. Very helpful to someone wanting to have this information. My phone was in a small amount of water for a week and would have also been subjected to below freezing temps. I can certainly see it will not work again and not to bother much effort in getting it to charge again. I'm not sure how much data I will have lost until I get my new phone and find out. Very nice work!
I can't believe it, it works again! I'm just charging it now but the screen works and the buttons still seem to work. This phone is really incredible. I only know it was wet enough that the backing plate has come off and there was water inside. I let it dry now for 6days. Just thought I'd give it a try.

could you use distilled water on a ultrasonic cleaner to get under all the components and ics to stop the corrosion?
Great question. Unfortunately, that rarely removes any corrosion built up under an IC. From my experience, the ultrasonic cleaner only cleans whatever corrosion is external to the board.
We get a lot of phones in for data recovery after another repair shop tried ultrasonic cleaner and they almost always have lots of corrosion under ICs, but the otuside will be clean

What were you using before an expensive microscope? I find a mobile phone with decent camera and magnifying app is ok. Can't justify a full on scope for hobbying.
If you do phone repairs, a stereo microscope isn't that expensive and worth every penny. You can use it for so many things, not just microsoldering.

When you repair a phone and get it to turn on, do you back up the data and send it to the customer? If so, do you offer options like transferring the data to a memory stick or uploading it to the cloud? Or do you simply return the working phone and let the customer handle the data backup themselves?

I wonder if people will ever learn to backup to cloud all important stuff hence saving few hundred dollars. Should be taught at primary school. Always brush your teeth and backup yo data homies.
Nope. Never haha. Some people also don't trust "the cloud".
For me it's not that I don't trust it in terms of reliability I just take issue from a privacy standpoint of having my data on other people's computers. I'd prefer to backup to external drive in my own home.
