Being Sqaurepuaher and playing in a Japanese forest at 9am in 2001 is a mood bro!
Y también , es de genios hacerlo
is a mood? what sort of language is that? what are you trying to say? at least you didn't call it a vibe like most morons these days do
@@prpwnage9296 Huh?
@@prpwnage9296 Sorry mr intelligent, we'll never say "mood" again just because you don't like it.
@@jesuscm1398 well how am i meant to know what you mean if you use a word in a different way?
I was there. I tried to find me in the video, and I did. This was 20 years ago. I am now 45. I was totally obsessed with him, Tom Jenkinson back then. Good memory.
This must feel amazing :D
Where are you from? Did you travel to the festival just to see Squarepusher? Sounds like a cool story!
@@jaredbohannon6042 I am Japanese.
I was into Squarepusher since 1996, when I lived in the rural area of Missouri, USA. 2001 is the year I came back to Japan. Squarepusher came to Fujirock so I went to it. I went to London to see him too around that time. Luke Vibert was my idol too.
@@patochan4876 any other fav musicians like squarepusher
can't believe he was only 26 years old a that time, what a fucking prodigy...
Insane!
this still sounds like the future
i love how everyone is just taking the music as it is, reacting naturally and being engaged from start to end. it really seems like a rare thing to happen with crowds
what a great crowd. They seem to have so much respect for the music, really feel the unity here!
+Marcusmiller Fantastic crowd indeed.
music...yeah right. just irritating high pitched sounds that gave me a nasty headache - no soul what so ever.
Fuji Rock is also known for hosting some of breakcores/IDMs finest such as AFX, Vsnares, Plaid etc. Staple territory for us here people who like REAL music, unlike the mass of the world who rather listen to Miley Cyrus on repeat for an entire week..
@@catoknudsen6377 fuck u ;)
Cato Knudsen can't dance little beaver?
Do You Know Squarepusher is hands down one of the best songs I've ever heard. It's incredible.
what i love about this the most is how into it he is. that type of stuff is rad to watch, some of the faces he makes during the set just show the dude was loving what he was doing at that moment in time.
Mdma baby! 😁
You can get the same effect if you make sound like that or listen to it! No need for Drugs!
Would love to travel time to see this concert live!! 🤩
This is still ahead of its time by 20 years , and its 2019
..yeah, no.. this shit is archaic
Lol these sounds are dated asf. The songs reek of late 90s and early 2000s
If I had a time machine this would be my first and last stop.
This and a few other concerts
I love how the crowd is peacefully bouncing
Do you know squarepusher is honestly one of the most interesting songs i've ever listened to, i can't explain it but it's just so close to something that just doesn't exist. It's amazing.
That break at 5:19 is perhaps the most disgustingly perfectly processed and composed break in existence. Cannot be beaten.
the one break is the Think break by Lynn Collins it's often layered with the Winston's amen. Vsnares does that a lot as well. You can get some interesting pitch and frequency effects on breaks using grain delay and layering hits.
@@Unit_With_Legs this guy fucks
@@Unit_With_Legs Do you make music my guy?
Now this is a great crowd. Knowing when to get down, and when to shut up, and when to shout for that matter. And a great set of course.
this master was ahead of his time
is this your master? hahahahaha. not mine
@@catoknudsen6377 nobody asked
@@catoknudsen6377 not a single soul
Good thing a rot brain like you do not like this
@@catoknudsen6377 cato as a pun
japanese festivals are different, everyone is running at the stage when the artist starts to play
When music is art people want to get up close to see the painting
Gary W-l-o-t yeah, but when it's a gig they are there mostly just before it starts
Maybe because idm festivals there are popular
effing blew me away man. I have listened to squarepusher since like 2002, but after seeing this I am listening to everything he has done. I will be sharing this with a few friends
15:25 what Tom does to the crowd and himself while playing that track is just amazing and legendary, no matter how awkward I'm sounding now. so inspirational ! EPIC stuff, makes me smile everytime I watch it, thank you. classic recording, long live Squarepusher and Fuji Festival !
E.P.I.C
Not awkward to say at all, that tune is an absolute face-melter to this day, and it’s really crazy to think of production like this being done nearly 25 years ago. Dude’s one of the best to ever do it without a doubt
It's always great to see people rush towards the stage rather than run away when you come on.
we use to watch this footage over and over back in 2002 ;)
it still blows my mind!!!
Lol, guy at 3:32-3:34 looked like the back of Aphex Twin's head... Haha
Do You Know Squarepusher is absolute perfection. So much action and drama packed into it.
man, this guy...& Aphex Twin are just at the forefront of electronic music ...blows my mind, 'The Exploding Psychology' is just mind blowing.
+Dr. H Check out Exploding Plastics for another cool artist.
+Ben C Also look for robclouth on Soundcloud. Awesome artist. Maybe look at robclouth's Vaetxh for some super mind bending stuff. All on there. Also, Woulg is a dude from Canada I believe. And finally the defunct Enigmatik Records, enigmatiksounds at bandcamp. Shame the label isn't with us any longer. They really broke new ground.
sweet will do man, thanks!
i think this is a more fun show compared to some edm mega light show. feels more real and thus easier to appreciate. also its great to see a large crowd enjoy such colorful experimental sounds
That's most Japan crowds for you. They actually enjoy it when they can. Most shows in the states are water down thots half dressed or dudes rolling off X
Tracklist:

Hey it’s the guy who uploads all the squarepusher albums
you forgot 16:45 WTF moment lol
@@QuestionKnife holy shit, ive never seen that before. adding it.
Gracias Thankssss
When ever I'm feeling down and out I come back to this vid and all seems well in the world :) Happy Day!
you don´t have a clue, son. -Old school raver
Cato, all those dodgy gurners you boshed back in the 90s seem to have fried your serotonin receptors and turned you into a negative old git. Go listen to something you DO like instead of shit-posting on every comment under something you don't like.
2001...wow...mindblowing...but dont rest in that unreal retro vision...mr. squaredaddy...peace
I think I might cry
what if we kissed in squarepusher live act at Fuji festival 2001

Japanese crowds are the coolest to watch. So much appreciation for the act man
rocking a peavey pc1600- good man. the original hardware midi controller, which you can programme without a computer. built like a tank.
banging set too, tom.
this setting is so dope!
16:45 WTF lol what a memory to grow up with
i now wonder doesn't he/she became an edm producer... lmao
such a surreal event... alien somehow and very beautiful.
Brilliant great to see know mobiles filming reminds me of early Glastonbury back in the early 90s. Great atmosphere people enjoying the music.
This whole live set is included in the 2002 Do You Know Squarepusher cd.
no
Cato Knudsen
I think he's right. Boneville Occident is the only one I came to check but the audio from that performance sounds identical to what I hear on my record of "Do You Know Squarepusher".
The best ever experimental drum and bass I've ever heard
I wouldn’t call it drum n bass, it’s drill n bass
The crowd respecting each other. :)
My God I would have went absolutely crazy there! Great set. Such a good time period also. Love Squarepusher ❤️
I cant imagine how he managed using those slow IBM laptops back then
I can only imagine the laptop was just playing midi to outboard samplers?
It's mostly just playing back tracks, not really processing too much. The huge cabinets are holding the hardware that does the heavy lifting of cleaning up the sound, FX etc.
laptops of this period could playback multi-track audio solidly. he's primarily using outboard effects over the top of his pre-recorded tracks. i played live shows with the first macbook starting in '01 using logic.
Nowadays you could absolutely do a show like this with software only, but it'd probably be way less reliable. Back then I don't think you could do this much audio processing and sequencing on a laptop without a lot of latency. Laptops pushing out MIDI to hardware synths and effects seems to make most sense here.
This fellow does right by me.
That's the concert to be at - I hope kids look back on this - like we do about the 60s - try to put a breakbeat to squarepusher, hahaha, I didn't think so.
amazing magior influence on me and has help me evolve as an artist.
Thank you for AL THE DEVINE FREQUENCIES
squarepusher is genius
Thanks for posting this! I'd love to see more!
Phenomenal set/performance /work. Decades ahead of the curve.
So glad this book of the Squarepusher bible has been uploaded, the church will be pleased.
Saw him at DEMF in 2013. It was amazing but seeing him back then seems like it would have been even cooler!!
Noise, jungle, melodies, crazy beats and that squarepusher touch... would be a perfect set if he jammed along with the bass too...........but its still 9.9999/10
Mutilation Colony is a legit sound test.
What a show, more than 20 years and always at the top ...
This is beautiful
he’s so cute and the crowd is so cool
I love that they uploaded this at 720p & 1080p, because there's almost zero difference in quality from 480p standard definition.
Er....Luke Vibert,AFX,VS usw. danke das es solche Künstler d. Musik wie euch gibt....Danke für eure Musik einfach nur Sahne ❤ 🤟👌
the whole concert is great
This is so good!
Go Plastic is still ahead of it’s time even today. It should be locked away in a vault until 2134.
trees are lovin it

Japan loves breakcore and Drum N Bass
Having a great time. Getting a bit funky
wow so nice, love it , perfect for waiting bangface time :-)
TJ is still in my top 5 but i think he'd be number 1 if i was here
Go plastic is the best stuff I know of that squarepusher has done so far.
you can find some good stuff in his big loada compilation too.
why?
like i needed another reason to envy Fuji
Brilliant
He's using a PC. NIIIICE
What's your point?
PC represent!
@@jakubmadron7776 hmm maybe it was he's using something I recognize to do that. Huh. Good question.
