The man looks like a mad scientist trying to develop the best music to ever hit these youngsters eardrums.
YES! He is a hero!!
He already is mate.

Wow - good find! That was really interesting
wow. This is what the internet is about! Sharing interesting information with people that dont posess the information you yourself have. Thank you sir
I'm 48 n' still twatting my neighbours heads in, with this LEGEND OF I. D. M MUSIC. Untouchable. CLASSIC. And just off the back of SAW 85/92, WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? ?
Must be some good meth
Ha! Great footage. Me and my brother promoted the first Aphex Twin gig in Scotland, back in 1993, and Richard came up to my house before the gig and we had a blast on the decks to get us in the mood! His mum and dad came to the gig which was pretty weird! They were on holiday in Scotland at the time and it was the first time they'd seen their boy in a club! He looked just like he does in this video, same for the gig set up what with all those wires coming out of the synths and shit. Wish I'd filmed it.
Thank you, my friend, for sharing this incredible story! Would not have any real photo of this day to show us?
I would love to hear what he played this day!
thank you!
Luan Corrêa Nah, unfortunately not! We were all young and dumb in those days and with no idea how iconic Aphex would become, he was just another gig back then! I have a tape of him DJing in my house somewhere, and an answering machine message left by his dad the day after the gig, when he called me to thank us for the hospitality! That's pretty interesting, he had a very strong Cornwall accent!
Hahaha Cool! Share this!
I love reading stuff like this, I was 18 back at this time and was rave and drug mad. Sadly i never happened to see him live but over the years i've come to love his music, now I've hit my 40's and don't go partying now and i still haven't seen him live sadly. I don't have a bucket list but i do want to see Aphex Twin before i croak it. It's mad because with hindsight i could have easily seen him, as i lived in Cumbria and was going all over north England and Scotland to clubs.
Brilliant, thanks for sharing this.I don't suppose you got chance to ask his mum and dad what they thought about their son's new vocation ha
The juxtaposition of Richard calming turning knobs & his friend frantically dancing is hilarious
Aphex Twin on this live:
"They used my soundcheck audio for this footage because their actual gig audio was distorted, they got the soundcheck audio off the desk, you can see its not really in sync. The soundcheck was not live, just me putting fx on over DAT playback. Ive still got a good copy of the actual gig recorded on DAT which I should upload at some point if and when I get onto the gig files. Oh and my fuckin monitor died halfway through the first track, was mostly off the studio 440 though.."
FilziSH I was sure that it was out of sync and was waiting to find a comment about this! He's clearly doing something but you can't hear any change to the audio either
Main source of this interview? :0

Massive respect to the late great John Peel for bringing Richard into the public eye 👁🗨, back in the 92' BBC radio peel sessions. Classics. The day I got outta jail November 92' I bought selected ambient works 85/92 and it changed my life for music.
It's so interesting that you didn't say "...it changed my life for [the better]" but rather, "for music." - as a musician I feel that somehow. Yours was my favourite 'I used to listen to this when' story I've seen. Short and bittersweet. Thanks and may you be blessed. I'm currently learning to appreciate this artist!
@@DigDugger-hg1xb his track output is just mind boggling, I can't keep up collecting. He's constantly constructing tracks all day, every day.
john peel's sessions always went hard 🔥
Almost every label wanted to sign him when they heard his demos, respect to John Peel but he was going places anyway. Renaat who owns R & S said that he instantly thought he’d found the techno Jimi Hendrix.
Also massive respect to John Peel for bringing Boards of Canada & Autechre to the pubic eye too.
Cool to see this type of dark hard techno getting more appreciation again these days.
you cant even dance to this stuff though. But it does sound cool i suppose
@@MrWalker1000 one man in this video begs to differ.

@@drifter402 not that much, check out the Perc trax label.
That first tune is fucking head candy.
it really is !
I wonder if the people there had any idea of how ahead of time this really was.
Enrique Gustavo Fernandez i dont think we were ahead of time, i rather think today times are very much backwards and dont follow up to where they should and could be. of course, not all have stopped and regressed, but you wont see them on mainstream tv, like mcm or mtv was in those days.
Enrique Gustavo Fernandez Most of Richard's music is still way ahead of its time. I doubt this music will sound ''generic'' or ''obsolete'' in 50 years.
+kosmoplovci net
ahhahhahahaa MCM and MTV as of today.... Lord Jesus Christ it's vomit inducing just to think of it :/
+Enrique Gustavo Fernandez At this time I was only 2 years old, and I started listeting to electronic music with The Prodigy and stuff like that. Well, several years ago I found WARP records and I finally realized that it's my favourite type of music (mind-blowing). And yeah, it sounds so futuristic even now that I want to be at that party so badly, but, It's impossible :)
+Danny Kornovan I was 14 at the time and I went and bought of much of random techno cd's without even hearing them. Years later I realized the one I liked the most, the one called Polygon Window, was also AFX. That blew my mind that all that time I had no idea who it was.
I love how the synths and all those wires look modern, but this PC is the most 90s thing ever
Lol. The modular synths that look "modern" were either built in the 70s or copies of shit built in the 70s
Got a respect a man who brings his actual gear from the studio on stage even though it might break down and still rocks that shit to the ground
studio more like bedroom Atari ST ha ha
deadmau5 as of recently
Don't think you really had much of a choice in 1993
a guy called gerald did the same in the 80s and 90s
Actually, he brought extra stuff to throw bitters off. This was probably around that time. I'm pretty sure he's dummying with one hand while using the other. I wonder how he was feeling about that camera peering over his shoulder.
Aphex Twin = God of Electronic music

It makes me happy to know that the guy that designed Richard's logo was actually really into the music lol
for 93, this was extremely high quality. Not sure the frenchmen realized the level of talent they witnessed that day. The stage dude sure did. Either way, awesome video!
French too ! In 90's in France hardcore music just arrive in club (and partys with 23 Spirals of course) in 94. 1993 is 1 year before, RDJ still the best for me
man, Acid Eiffel was released in 93, France already meant business at that time
the stage dude actually designed his logo lmao
@@maxiqums1549 that's where it started, well a bit before that actually, but around that time it pretty much ended as well as filter house took over in France.
@@NoName-no1sg sorry, but the french have never been synonymous with techno, barring a few outliers from the FNAC camp or Motorbass. The tekno scene is big in France, but this is a Brit thing (Spiral Tribe).
The thing about Aphex twin that I loved more than anything was how he can really make anything sound computerized, like it really came from a computer, but he could also make something sound so atmospheric it sounds like something that came from another planet, or dimension, or like something from heaven, very very few artists I can name ever got close to what Richard could create, I think a lot of that came from his ability to truly let his mind wonder, and listen to things, observe things, almost a sort of meditation, which tbh, I feel is really the heart of a true artist. Him and Brian eno were truly some of the best electronic music artists to ever walk the earth.
Amen to that
Bro talking like he's dead
U know he s alive right ?
He uses mostly analogue gear dude. Its a million miles from sounding like it comes from a computer.
@@matthewgregory2106 missed the point. It's the vibe, the inhuman sound

Love when AFX has these banging beats alongside absolutely beautiful ambient pads.
30 years later and it's still a masterpiece
Genius. Brilliant. Immortal.
it's weird that i still find his music from this era to be amazing., fresh and interesting.
So true
That track at 9mins is on his unnamed album, I got it, just a blank CD with a sticker on box. About 10 tracks, classic aphex. Some of his stuff is unreal, he can get right into my brain.
If you're still active I'd love to hear it
Please post that if u can find it, that would be a blast to listen to
@Bronson bless you kind sir
Yeah ! Had his "classic album" on vinyl about 94's
Isn’t it just Start as You Mean to Go On?
Sounds more futuristic than some of the shite that's knocked out today, still ahead of his time!

I want his Monica on my gravestone because he's been in my life for 40 years. Not one week goes by without playing random tracks from some back catalogue. Love you AFX.
If anyone wants to hear what the whole set might have gone like search for ‘Aphex live at orbit Leeds 1992’ for a full set with these tracks in it.

still mind blowing even is 27 years ago!
This is beautiful.
Saw him in Belfast around this time. Spoke to the dancer before he was due on stage and he was really lovely. It was some rave with Aphex and Spiral Tribe, if I remember correctly.
Only Aphex could produce sounds of such carefully crafted quality.
Fucking Legend.
He's trippin balls, and pioneering the boundaries of what we consider music. RD James will ever be under-appreciated.
I saw him live in Houston. I would have loved to witness some classic sets like this.
