From what I know, the rev wrote afterlife, and m shadows said 'afterlife is crazy, but write something crazier like pinkly smooth style stuff' (pinkly smooth was the rev and synysters old band before this one) so the rev recorded 8 and a half mins of one handed piano, then recorded 8 and a half on the other hand, then the drums, then little vocal parts, and it all came together to be this.
He proposes, she rejects him and he gets angry and kills her, preserves her to do as he pleases with her, she comes back from the grave, kills him, he apologises and she forgives, and they get married and terrorise everyone else as dead souls together.

She doesn't actually say no, the man kills her before she could answer, out of fear of rejection. "I was weak with fear that something would go wrong. Before the possibilities came true, I took all possibility from you"

@@AkumaGekido It's not misleading, it goes in-line with the lyrics. It depicts his internal scenario that causes him to do the act. They didn't overlook it. It's just showing what the boyfriend's thought process was in the moment. Hope this was insightful!

The fictional story in this song is only slightly more fucked up than the Subway to Sally song "Schwarze Seide" about a real person named Carl Tanzler, who stalked a girl that he claimed he had visions of, and when she died of TB, he stole her corpse (hauled her body back to his house at night in a toy wagon) and lived with it for years until he was caught. Dude left his wife and kids to live with a corpse.

When I hear this song it reminds me of toxic relationships that really shouldn't continue but they do and you loose part of yourself
I understand where you're coming from, but it's The Rev, it's more than likely as straightforward as you can see here
I think the song and the video are metaphors for real life relateable shit. They are both completely in love, but he's insecure and sees red flags in the relationship, and instead of risking getting hurt, he sabatoges the relationship, (he killed her without considering possible reasons why she said no. She got back with him after all he did so she clearly loved him. Perhaps the timing was bad, or their finances werent right yet, or maybe it was a really shitty proposal and she wanted him to try again later, but he never gave her the chance to explain) that way he can get out with his happy memories and deified rose colored glasses version of her in his mind. But she goes tit for tat and hurts him just as bad as he hurt her (they ripped eachother's hearts out), and it makes him realize how bad he fucked up, which prompts them both to finally communicate how they feel and what they actually want, which allows them to work things out.
At least that's how i interpret it. It's a twisted, exaggerated love story.
