Fun Facts!!! So one of the reasons Robert Downey Jr. was so good in this role was because he's had a history of drug abuse and partying and this character is very much like himself in real life back in the days before he cleaned himself up. Even though Robert Downey Jr. had been in numerous movies beforehand he had done so much damage to his reputation and his career that when he auditioned for this role he knew that it was incredibly important because it could completely turn things around for him and be the biggest role he's ever had. Before the audition he actually threw up in a bush outside of the building he was that nervous.
And really he cleaned up and then crashed again a couple times. There was that Chaplin comeback but it didn't last. He's pretty lucky to be alive. And it makes Less Than Zero (an 80s teen film) so poignant.

Guy at the end is Samuel L Jackson playing Nick Fury. He's been in everything... including The Incredibles. (He was the voice of Frozone).
Has she ever seen a movie, he’s the black guy in it.
Jurassic Park among 150 others.
"Honey!?" "Yes?" "Where's my super suit?"
he was even in a die hard movie. actually done 2 that i know of with bruce willis
@@dunringill1747 every time my husband says honey where’s... I interrupt with ... your super suit?
"That wasn't Hugh Hefner....?". This is the only RUclipsr that can tell me she hasn't watched the Marvel movies and I would believe her.
Make sure you watch them in the order they were released, beats from one movie pick up in the next one.
Ashley: Is this how the Avengers started?
Entire planet: YYEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!!!!
I remember the whole theater cheering when Fury stepped forward and mentioned the "Avengers initiative".
Meh, this was a good film, second one was boring and I have zero interest in everything that came after. I still think Hulk was a character played by Eric Bana.
... "He's a friend from work!"
I love that you've been hooked. The MCU is so much fun. Each movie is an emotional ride, I cry in at least one part of every one. My husband and I are rewatching each one, from the beginning, as a refresher as for some films, like Iron Man, it's been a while.
"Shoot at the people"
He's a doctor, so that's a nope.
Indeed. And, more importantly, he's just not the sort of person who can make himself take a life.
doctors give people shots all the time. what's the problem?
@@shinget Nice
Where I live doctors shoot their patients all the time. They just use things other than guns and bullets to 'get the job done'.
"Are all Marvel movies this dark and sad?"
You might want to avoid the DC franchise
the only dc universe movies i liked was red and red 2
Y’all better not spoil anything! She has such a long way to go! Ashleigh you need a comment moderator to delete spoilers
“Are all the Marvel movies this dark and sad?” So, maybe the DC universe isn’t for Ashleigh... 😂
Well, there is Shazam!, but for the others...
@@ruthmeow4262 And Suicide Squad I guess ...technically.
The DC films are sad for a different reason though. ...It's because they suck.
For DC, do the Christopher Reeves Superman movies and the Michael Keaton Batman movies.
DC isn't dark and sad some people just watched nothing but Batman and Snyder Movies
What's really going to be frustrating more so for us is that there's no way of explaining anything without spoilers.
Everyone remembers watching this as the start of the MCU.
I remember going to the cinema while on a long vacation in California. I went on a date to the cinema with a lovely young lady who I met over there.
The cinema was empty... we didn't watch the movie. Thats how I started the MCU and my memories of Iron-man haha
Ashleigh: “I can’t wait to see how it all comes together”. Patience. It’s gonna take a minute.... but it’s a fun ride and I’m excited to see your awesome reactions!
One giant problem with this ride, even if she does one a week, it will not finish until next year.
The best thing about Iron Man is that Robert Downy Jr. wasn't acting. He really is like that.
A week after the premiere a reporter asked a stupid question. He answered, "You know two weeks ago I would have had to answer that."
Genius, Playboy Philanthropist??
He can park his cars in my garage any night!! (But I have always had a soft spot for RDJ right back to the 80's, Air America, Soapdish...Yummy!!!!!!)
Brand new sub. You are by far the funniest woman I have seen in many years. What a character.
"I am iron man da duh duh da da garbage can" funniest shit i heard in a long time
That "built his first circuit board" bit where you said Nerd, he's with actual Bill Gates.
WELL SHIT
@@awkwardashleigh HA! Wait til Iron Man 2, you can see the other guy he's based on. The first being OG super genius narcissist billionaire Howard Hughes.
coming back to this review just to see how far we've come
Fun fact, if no one else pointed it out, the scientist that said "I'm not Tony Stark" was Peter Billingsly, a.k.a. Ralphie in A Christmas Story.
Edit: I see at least one person has indeed pointed it out before me. Go Jeff.
Billingsly produced this film. He is Jon Favreau film making partner. Together they make all of Favreau's films.
@@reesebn38 A non-MCU movie by the pair before Iron Man was Zathura, a scifi version of Jumanji. The leg lamp was in the house...
@@CaptainFrost32 I think that movie is very underrated.
Remember that guy who Tony thought was Hugh Hefner. You're sure to see him again, he's the creator of the comics. Makes a cameo in ALL the movies.
Not anymore, unfortunately. Hopefully one Wade W. Wilson will take up for him though.
When he admitted to being Ironman look at his face when he said "Truth is". He survived and remembered how many lies were told. Is he a narcissist? Yes. Was that the main motivation for telling the truth? I don't think so. He was a changed man.
that partner (Jeff Bridges) is great in The Big Lebowski he's the Dude
Fun fact: The little scared guy who says, "I'm not Tony Stark" is Peter Billingsly...aska Ralphie from A Christmas Story.
😲
Wow, I never knew that, thanks!👍🏻
Oh shit that is him , I didn't notice it was him until now
Fun fact about RDJ. He credits Burger King for saving his life at his lowest point. He has a special relationship with them now, thus why he used BK in after his rescue in the movie.
"Mind your business, Jarvis."
Narrator: That is something Jarvis would not do.
Everything Tony does *IS* the business of Jarvis.
That's why Jarvis exists, so Tony doesn't have to bother.
"That's what you built me for......sir."
“Proof that Tony Stark has a Heart”
Ashley: “Aww that’s nice”
Everyone: wiping tears... “yes it is”
Careful lol
Please, people... No spoilers, Thanos demands your silence.
@@BDTXIII shhhhh
Someone said only discuss details if they don't relate to a future movie.
That rules out pretty much every detail.
Nick Fury is played by Samuel L. Jackson, who played Mace Windu in the Star Wars prequels and was also in Jurassic Park, Pulp Fiction, and a WHOLE lot of other stuff.
Yensen is the true MVP of the Marvel Cinematic Universe
And not the last time we'll see him either.
@@Zartu_3rd_Overlord_of_Blargon7 Can we not spoil things for her?
I'm impressed you jumped right into Black Sabbath's Iron Man 👍💚
Well she did use to work at a Radio Station
Worked at a classic rock station and could MURDER this song on guitar hero.
@@awkwardashleigh I bow down before thee rock goddess 😉 image here Waynes World I'm not worthy raising and lowering arms😍. Have you seen the movie Iron Giant? which the song iron man and Iron Giant are loosely based on Ted Hughs' book Iron Man who was married to for a time to Sylvia Plath. Okay sorry that was meant to be a flex, I think I tore a ligament on that one. 🤗😊🍷😎
@@awkwardashleigh If you're wondering, the character of Iron Man did come before the song, and no, the song isn't actually about him.
I would pay 💰 money 💴 to see you on Guitar Hero, maybe the other channel ?
Yeah, it takes Tony a while to get dressed, but he's just getting his suit broken in. You know, like a new pair of shoes. :)
"Is it going to be like in The Incredibles?"
Well, if you thought the guy at the end sounded familiar, there you are.

That robot he's always picking on was the first one he built. That's his special friend.

I highly recommend getting someone to moderate the comments for spoilers. Fans can get so excited that they can't help dropping hints or referencing things that you've not seen yet. Finding out one of my fav reactors has not seen and is just starting to watch the MCU movies just made my entire day.
"that wasn't Hugh Hefner" you are correct, that was Stan Lee the founder of Marvel Comics, He makes a cameo in every MCU movie.
Stan Lee wasn’t a founder of Marvel, he was a writer and editor-in-chief.
@@JasonZakrajsek Stan Lee was an office copy boy in the days of Timely Comics when Captain America and Namor and The Human Torch were the first three major characters in what would become Marvel Comics. He was there through the days of Timely Comics, Atlas Comics, and saw Marvel Comics come into the Silver Age. He wasn't the only man at Marvel, but was The Man.
So glad you're watching this! Completely feel the same when it comes to 'so who belongs to which universe???' and especially 'are they gonna kiss?!' :D
I would love to see you two react to movie together via zoom 🖤🖤🖤
Two of my favorite reactors together ✨
Oh it’s on! Love your excitement. Can’t wait to watch you watch them all.
"This almost made me cry"
Have a box of tissues ready....
she'll definetally needs a box of tissues for the Thor films, different reasons though
Singing Back in Black is like singing Louis Louis, or the Fine Young Cannibals: She Drives Me Crazy. You can make up the lyrics as you go, and no one knows the difference.
'scuse me... while I kiss this guy...
“I AM IRON MAN
duh duh duh duh duh duh duh garbage can”
That was hilarious, sis!
You really need to watch all of them because there are tie-ins between all of the Marvel movies. You'll like Thor. And the REST OF THE IRON MAN MOVIES! Captain America - The First Avenger. You will cheer and cry at that one.
Oh yeah, Ashleigh is going to die (er..swoon big time) when she sees Steve Rogers..
She will cheer and cry over Chris Evans' abs in that one, at least.
@@thomasplummer8103 I'm cheering and crying over his abs right now!
IMO Ragnarok is the only good Thor movie.
Time for Cap! She’ll love it.
Don't worry, Ashley, Marvel movies run the whole spectrum from sad to psychedelic glitter party (I'm looking at you, Jeff Goldblum)
I prefer to just use Jeff Goldblum as the adjective. (sad to Jeff Goldblum)
personal theory for the filming of Thor: Ragnorok, they didn't hire Jeff Goldblum, he just wandered onto the set one day and they decided to fill a Thor movie around him
FYI the “I’m not tony stark” scientist guy is the kid who played ralphie in a Christmas story!
Gotta love his first suit. Straight out of the first comic appearance
Random fact - Jeff Bridges, who played Stane/Iron Monger, took the role because he was looking for an excuse to shave his head after years of medium/long hair. If you haven't got them on your list already, he's in "The Big Lebowski" and "Starman."
...and The Fisher King
