The guy who played Tony Stark's right hand man "Happy" is Jon Favreau the director of the movie. Also, the guy that Obedia yells at for not being able to duplicate what Tony Stark did with "scraps" is Peter Billingsley, the kid from "A Christmas Story". Fun Facts!!!
So one of the reasons Robert Downey Jr. was so good in this role was because he's had a history of drug abuse and partying and this character is very much like himself in real life back in the days before he cleaned himself up.
Even though Robert Downey Jr. had been in numerous movies beforehand he had done so much damage to his reputation and his career that when he auditioned for this role he knew that it was incredibly important because it could completely turn things around for him and be the biggest role he's ever had. Before the audition he actually threw up in a bush outside of the building he was that nervous.

personal theory for the filming of Thor: Ragnorok, they didn't hire Jeff Goldblum, he just wandered onto the set one day and they decided to fill a Thor movie around him

Random fact - Jeff Bridges, who played Stane/Iron Monger, took the role because he was looking for an excuse to shave his head after years of medium/long hair. If you haven't got them on your list already, he's in "The Big Lebowski" and "Starman."
