One of my favorite scenes (of many in this movie) is Nat's reaction when Banner yells at her over that table. She draws her gun and holds her ground, but her fear of him is so strong that she actually leans her head back as if to get away from him. It's a great human moment, and little things like that make great characters.

"Flying monkeys" is from "The Wizard of Oz," made in 1939. So yeah, Cap would get that reference.

SHE is “Black Widow” and her story is the latest Marvel movie out. She is amazing.
In the comics, Black Widow had a “thing” in the past with Hawkeye, which is why the news gets her into action-MCU hoped to do something with that, and….quickly ruined those plans, leaving no reason at all to make that Black Widow movie.

...and he gain a "unlimited Powaaa!!"
The Hulk was recast because the actor who played him originally, Edward Norton, is infamously difficult to work with. He would constantly make his own rewrites to scripts and clash with directors over how scenes were filmed and edited. He can be a bit of a control freak, some have said, and he brought that difficulty to the set of Incredible Hulk. So when he became involved with the MCU there was bound to be a battle of ego's. So when Disney acquired Marvel the year after Incredible Hulk came out, an unstoppable force met an immovable object. They decided to just cut him loose to avoid what could possible by years of creative conflict with him.
But I actually really like Mark Ruffalo as an actor and as a person so I grew to love him in the role pretty quickly.
Whereas I still don't like Mark Ruffalo, he's nowhere near as good an actor as Ed Norton. It's a shame Norton is such a control freak on set because I really would have liked him to stick around.
I do like the recast of War Machine, the original guy is an egomaniac who is not talented enough to justify his enormous opinion of himself and I really like Don Cheadle.
Eric Bana played him first and was available but they just decided to pretend the Ang Lee movie never happened. He would have been better.

"Iron Man's not going to die. I refuse to believe it". You're absolutely right. Nothing happens to Iron Man.
So easy for him sometimes. Like a snap
TECHNICALLY (with the way they make him move and LAND in his suit) he should be dead every time he does one of his "clonk superhero landings" ... because he is just a mortal human and the organs inside his body can MOVE, they would be squished inside his body inside the suit from all the "flying speed -> zero" crashes.
Just watch what happens to humans in car crashes ... because the Iron Man armor doesnt have any airbags or other cushions inside.
@@Muck006 I'd say that given what he goes through the first breakthrough invention for the suit, the thing that sets his armor apart from every other armor system out there is the independently powered inertial dampening field that must be integrated into the suit. Because without it he would have been pizza from acceleration forces and impacts in the first ten minutes of the first movie.
And does stark give it to NASA or SHIELD later on? Nope... because that's the genius of Tony Stark. Knowing what humanity absolutely would do with that alone, and not even including it in the diagnostic plans or on any external server so it can't be stolen and integrated into anything. Go ahead make yourself some armor, see how long it takes you to have boots on the ground my guys,... cause anyone can make armor.. armor that doesn't turn you into paste.. well... would ya look at that :) Lookin at you Stane, Justin Hammer.

Natasha Romanoff's "superhero" name is Black Widow, but no one calls her that really. She has a whole movie coming up later in your marathon which answers some/most of your backstory questions.
Well, honestly, the Russian guy she's interrogating in the beginning refers to her as "the famous Black Widow", so sometimes people call her that.
I think they reveal that later in the movies but it's not much of a spoiler. Hawkeye's real name is Clint Barton, which you get a few times in this movie. Well, his last name at least.
At this stage back then, Thor, the first Ironman and The Avengers were pretty much equal #1 in my book followed very closely by Captain America. Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow is my favorite character, she has no super power but she can hold her own agains the bad guys as good as the other Avengers.
Brylcreem. That's what keeps Cap's hair perfect on a motorcycle. It was popular for men in Steve's time, my grandpa always slicked his hair back with it, don't know why, he never took off his cowboy hat.
When I saw this in theaters opening weekend EVERYONE was fooled twice by Loki's pretending to be there trick. Everyone was stunned by Colson's death. But I'm sure where ever Colson went it was a magical place.
That very last end credit scene was a last minute addition to the movie. Joss Whedon, the director, had the idea to put it in (remember, earlier in the movie Tony had asked if anyone had eaten at that new restaurant "Shawarma" and that's where they're eating in the end credit scene). So there was an opportunity to do so when all of the actors were together for a preview of the movie for the press or some other event and they shot it in an afternoon. Having no special effects or even any dialog made it very easy and quick. I can honestly say that when my audience saw it we laughed hysterically.

It has many properties other than that, and there are things that can damage it, but physical force pretty much will not do it...as you see, it can withstand Thor's hammer without damage...in addition, it absorbs any physical force that hits it, like Thor's hammer. It is much more complicated that that, but that is kind of all you need to know for now....no spoilers and all that. 🖖😁✌
And Vibranium is very significant for someone and somewhere coming in six movies' time.
There are two basically indestructible metals in Marvel. Vibranium and adamantium. Vibranium basically absorbs all force directed against it, a great property for a shield. Adamantium doesn't exist in the MCU, being stuck over at Fox with the X-Men. It may make an appearance in the future.
@@rmhartman I thought Adamantium was the guy that sang "Goody Two Shoes" to pay his bills and moonlighted as the original Ant Man between gigs.
get ready for more loki coming your way because he's the gift that keeps on giving.
"Who is that guy?"
Buckle up, because when you find out, it's going to be a crazy ride.
"Why can't?" "Why don't?" Character development and 20+ movies is usually the answer.
Awesome movie, there’s actually a show that follows a certain character after the events of the movie it’s called Agents of Shield and I highly recommend it it’s an awesome show, also yeah Edward Norton didn’t return due to a fall out with Marvel and they swiftly recast him with Mark who is honestly better imo
I really wish she could watch Agents of SHIELD
Seconded, about watching Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Very good, and quickly turns to excellent.
I don't know as I would say he is a better Bruce Banner, but I will say when I think of Bruce Banner the image that pops in my head is Ruffalo, not Norton or Bana.
Ruffalo rocks.
@@stargazer1682 After Iron Man 3...
16:00 I freaking loved the Phineas and Ferb reference.
She’s watched Phineas and Ferb, but probably has missed hundreds of Easter eggs in those cartoons since she hasn’t seen the movies they refer to.
I love your reviews. "You know what, Loki's hot." I completely agree, I think he gets more and more attractive each time I look at him.
Black Widow isn’t afraid of anything, but when she was told to get “the big guy”, she showed genuine fear.
When Bruce yelled at her in Calcutta, she was scared out of her mind.
That's the best thing about her character. Black Widow's super power isn't being a kick ass fighter (though it helps) it's manipulation. She can't manipulate a creature that only has one emotion.
It's really good character insight on the writers part.
Nick Fury’s super power is taxpayer dollars.
I thought it was BAMF...and I'm not talking about Nightcrawler...
Ashley is like Steve Rogers in reverse. They both say things like "I get that reference!" But from different ends of time.
As a long longtime comics reader, that New York City battle was just phenomenal. It was so much better than we thought we'd get for a movie. In terms of casting and characterization and effects. And as a particular fan of the cosmic stuff, I actually shrieked in the theater when they revealed Thanos. With that perfect Death line.
Yeah the MCU has revolutionized Super Hero Movies. When Avengers came out, I never thought it could be topped. It is like the 5th or 6th best MCU movie for me now.
Little did you know, he was trying to date Thomas Malthus instead of Death.
Imo Thanos has always had the best comic storylines. Followed by Thor God of thunder which is the story that Thor love and thunder is about.
Right now I can’t wait till she tackles endgame

"here I was thinking he'd really gotten to her" - yup, he really did. it is one of the best scenes in the entire marvel universe
“That’s a reference?”
Dang girl, you haven’t even seen The Wizard of Oz?
Your patrons better got on that one. Lol
I can't believe you left out the epic 360° establishing shot of all the Avengers together!
And the Hulk saying puny god
“That’s my secret…I’m always angry…”
One of my favorite parts of this movie.
That, and Hulk beating the crap out of the ‘puny god’.
The Incredible Hulk movie is at the bottom of everybody's list. Mark Ruffalo really saved the character. He is a much better Dr. Banner.
Not the worst movie, but definitely the least essential.
Who's everybody? Iron Man 2 and 3 and Thor: The Dark World are at the bottom for me, at least till you get into the more recent movies.
Lmao what?? Norton is easily the best Hulk/Bruce... Mark Ruffalo's Hulk/Bruce is terrible... they've made the character into an absolute joke.. they've failed the Hulk both powerwise and character wise.
The Incredible Hulk is absolutely one of the most loved and underated Mcu movie.
The “Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist” line gets me every time 😂! So glad you showed it. And of course the hulk thwaping the shit out of Loki! I think everyone loved the “Puny God” scene! Glad you are loving these.
Thanks Ashleigh for your take on these iconic movies, its so fun watching you watch them.
Ashleigh: this took 4 movies to bring everyone together.
Just wait until you get to Infinity War.
Better yet, Endgame. EVERYONE shows up. No spoilers.
Is it weird how excited I am to see how she reacts to everything coming together at the end and watching her connect all the dots of the movies together 😂 your reaction are amazing I always look forward to them especially the marvel ones🙂
This was a real event at the theater. When Hulk walked away saying "Puny god", I couldn't even hear it from all the laughter and clapping.
I'm glad they went with someone else for Banner because I just did not like Edward Norton in that role.
You might enjoy the "Agent Carter" TV series that focuses on what happened with her after Captain America disappeared at the end of WW2.
They didn’t follow up with it in the movies, but Thanos (in the comics) is in love with the Grim Reaper, so the “face them is to court death” line made him smile
technically the personification of DEATH is a different character than Grim Reaper but close enough.
The deeper you go, the more excited I get. This truly is a perfectly woven experience that happened over a decade. I just can't imagine we will ever see anything like it ever again in our life time.
"Calm down Ashleigh it's just the opening credits" Wait til she gets to when Marvel has its own theme song.
For Iron Man 3, I'm hoping we see a detective board behind Ashleigh with yarn connecting character headshots. Everything is important and connected; the universe is about to get a whole lot bigger in Phase 2.
This was my first thought when Ashleigh mentioned getting a whiteboard to keep track of things.

"I understood that reference"
I just found your channel yesterday, and I've easily binged 1/3 of your content so far, and I have to tell you that as a Gen Xer, it's so much fun to re-watch these movies that I grew up loving and that influenced me so much with someone who is about the same age as my kids. Also, happy to find a fellow Knox Villain on the tubers! Great channel!!
You have to consider that for a LOT of people in the Marvel Universe, Captain America is their *hero* growing up. Every current marvel hero and villain from Earth grew up in the afterglow of Cap's heroism. He's the gold standard.
