Whoever says to watch the MCU in anything other than release order doesn't know what they're talking about. A first-time viewer shouldn't watch it any other way.
Fun fact: The Hulk was created by trying to recreate the super soldier serum under the direction of General Ross. Steve was the first super soldier and people struggled and failed many times with trying to recreate it.
There’s also the exposition about it in The Incredible Hulk where Ross explains to Blonsky that what Banner was attempting to do was replicate the super soldier serum, and that it didn’t really work the way they thought it would.
I'm in the middle of the video but the Red Skull has a red skull because he took an early serum like Steve did and it amplified the evil within himself as the new serum amplified the good in steve. Bad becomes worse, good becomes great.
THAT was worthy of "Mystery Science Theater 300", "RiffTrax", "Cinematic Titanic", "The mads", and whatever other project have spawned from the original group!
This was when the MCU really found its footing. A lesser studio that didn't have faith in its characters would've tried to make Captain America dark, brooding, edgy, like WB tried to do with Aqua Man. Instead they allowed him to be square. They allowed him to be decent and good, and made the argument that we should love him for those old fashioned qualities. And they won that argument.
I don't think he is square. Authenticity is an admirable trait, and irony usually seems to be fear trying to pass itself off as cynicism. Embracing the former and rejecting the latter is cool shit.
I never ever thought that I would get emotionally invested in this universe. LET ME TELL YOU HOW WRONG I WAS. Just wait. These stories are so beautifully crafted and the character growth you see and the personal turmoil that comes...its beautifully done and I don't think we will ever see another universe done as well as this was done.

Release order is perfect because that’s how almost every fan saw them first. Chronological order is for second or even third time around when you remember everything that has gone on, all the tiny clues you can miss the first time.
When I see someone watching cpt marvel straight after first avenger I lose my damn shit. Like you dont understand like 50% of the references in the movie. Chronological order means shit, they were meant to be watched in the order they were released, not as events happened.

"Why is he not knocking one of them out and putting on their uniform!" Because that's a war crime going back to the 1800s (and still is today for that matter). If you use the enemy's uniform, flag, emblem, or other identifying marker for the purposes of deception, you lose all rights to all other protections under the articles of war. If Steve got caught breaking them out, the worst they could legally do is capture him as a prisoner of war where he must be treated with the same basic rights as any other soldier. If he got caught doing so while wearing a German uniform, he has no rights and they can do whatever they want. Granted, Hydra would've done whatever the hell they wanted regardless if they caught him, but Steve didn't know that at the time. If in doubt: Steve Rogers is a Lawful Good Paladin. He always does the right thing the right way, even if it's harder than doing the right thing the wrong way. "The ends justify the means" doesn't fly with Captain America because if you stoop to the level of the evil you're fighting, you become that evil. He will do things the hardest way possible if the easier ways are evil no matter how good the outcome would be, and he will hold those around him to that same standard. He will take shortcuts like removing the pin holding up the flagpole to knock it over when he couldn't climb it, but he wouldn't have done that if he was ordered to "climb the flagpole" rather than just "capture the flag".

@@anonymes2884 I disagree. Captain Marvel is not obviously designed to be where she is. That movie should have been released before Infinity War at the least. And I think it would have benefited from being released before Guardians of the Galaxy. Then we would have transition from her the past to Star-Lord in the past back to the present day. As it is she feels like a deus ex machina insert. I don't think it was planned. I think they decided rather late in the process that she was going to be the lead of the next phase that just kind of forced her there in the middle of the last two chapters. It would be like if 45 minutes into the Last Jedi, they introduced a powerful New lightside Jedi. Or if in the last few episodes of Game of Thrones, suddenly some person came from the Southlands who we had never seen before and they ended up getting the throne. @@macmcleod1188 They should have never added Captain Marvel to the Infinity Saga at such a late stage. She was an insert to that story. The original plan was to introduce her after Endgame. They had her show up early, sent her of screen for the rest of the movie to do whatever, until she returns to do the deus ex machina thing. He means Howard Stark, it's all about context, certain things just make more sense in release order. Chronological order is a thing you could do for a second viewing, but not for the first time.
The only reason I suggest machete order for Star Wars first time watchers is because of the changes Lucas made after the fact. MCU hasn't jerked their product around like that so release order is the way to go.
Watching the MCU in release order makes the most sense and for the most satisfying experience. People who suggest watching in chronological order to anyone just getting started really fail to comprehend how much these movies build on familiarity with characters from previous movies (for example, Captain Marvel relies heavily on the audience being familiar with characters that are introduced in movies that only come later in chronological order).
I was EXACTLY the same Ashleigh. I was never, ever interested in those 'crappy superhero films' - then on a whim we decided to try them in release order like you are doing and absolutely fell in love with them. You've got so much good stuff to come :)
Also No Country for Old Men, Thaddeus Stevens in Lincoln, the prison warden in Natural Born Killers, a wonderfully fun villain in Under Siege, and so much else.
Hayley Atwell loves the role of Agent Carter so much that she's suggested the Marvel people write a bunch of stories about what she was up to across the 20th century, and then wait for her to be the appropriate age to film each one.
In the comics there is a what if timeline where the assassin shot the doctor and Steve before the experiment so she ended up taking the serum to catch the guy and became captain America.
You actually managed to hit a big fan theory, that Tony’s arc reactor technology is based on the tesseract. The further supposition, is that he makes vibranium to fuel it…
Ohhhh.... Never put that together, but that makes sense. Howard Stark did work with vibranium as evidenced by the existence of Cap's shield. Never put that together
@@anniedownum451 it’s totally unconfirmed, but it makes sense the new element he creates to power his arc reactor is vibranium. His father worked with it for years but couldn’t replicate it.
The arc reactor that Howard designed (and Tony later minaturized for his armor) was Howard's attempt to duplicate the energy source found in the Tesseract. Obviously, it wasn't going to put out as much power as an Infinity Stone, but it was damn impressive anyway.
I agree except Captain Marvel it's seriously damaged by being released in between the last two movies. Seeing her movie sooner is an enhancement. The very least before infinity war, and I would say the best spot to drop her would be before Guardians of the Galaxy because then you get a nice transition from the kid who is in roughly her time. Back to the present day.
Release order over "timeline"/ chronological order. Not even sure why this is a debate. ;-) End credit scenes don't make sense if you watch it in "timeline"/ chronological order.
I totally agree. The first time through, I think it's important to watch in release order so they tie together as 'intended'. Then later it's a fun re-watch to go in timeline order because you KNOW what comes next, and you can pick up on more Easter eggs that way. IMO, anyway

BTW, Ashleigh, it's "dilly-dally". Diddly-dallying" means something _very_ different. There's a very good reason he didn't put on the enemy's outfit when he infiltrated the base. When a soldier is caught in enemy territory wearing the enemy's uniform, they are considered spies, and treated much more harshly than a regular soldier. Also, he is filled with the patriotic spirit.

Even that is still only a fraction of what the Tesseract could manage. Never really understood the mindset of needing to watch a movie series like Marvel or Star Wars in the story's chronological order. I think it makes much more sense to watch in release order if it's your first time. Gives you the same experience everyone else did when these movies were first coming out!
Also, prequels by their nature expect you to have seen the movies that were released previously, and will spoiler them to some extent because they like to show connections to those stories.
Before the sequel movies came out, I always thought the best order for the six Star Wars movies were 4, 1, 2, 5, 3, 6. You need to start with the original, but then you go back and see young Anakin and he and Obi Wan's adventures, and you get to see most of that before the Empire reveal. Then you get the fall and the redemption. My order suggestion does not take into account the quality of any of the movies, just where they make the most sense to me for a first time viewer.

This. All of this.
I didn't know that thing about the uniform. Very good insight.
@@gspendlove If you watch Civil War movies, both sides used nearly identical rain gear. It made it difficult to know which side someone rode for in bad weather. If it was suspicious, you would be asked to turn over the lapel to show the uniform below. Part of the backstory of the term 'turncoat'.

@@jimhsfbay you're the one who did that, dude. the sexual harassment line was a joke.
Do we find out more about red skull guy?
The I could actually see the light bulb come on over her head.😀
You're going to love the Avengers films so much. All of them. We can't wait!
Aww I'm loving all your reactions to the MCU. Each movie really is such a good time and I'm glad you're enjoying them!! thanks for sharing your reaction!
My favorite phase 1 MCU. I loved the historical origin and I'm a big fan of the Red Skull. Hugo Weaving does an amazing job. His lines are epic in this.
Hugo Weaving hated being in this movie and refused to come back.
if you like the way this movie was done. try watching "The Rocketeer"
Not to mention Jennifer Connely.
And the shadow
Defo, great movie!
The Rocketeer is badass..for some funnies check out Strange Brew

She’s the first one who didn’t automatically think that Red Skill was dead! I am so HAPPY you liked this one! Now I can’t wait for you to watch The Avengers!!
People thought Red Skull was dead?

@@kilroy987 I knew he was alive the whole time, and I was really annoyed it took so long for him to come back and the payoff was kind of weak

Loving the Millennial Marvel Marathon so far. Your reactions are probably my absolute favorite 💜
I love watching people discover how awesome the MCU is! Excited for your next MCU reaction.
Release order is the best way to go for first time watchers.
Can't wait for your reaction to Marvel's The Avengers and I cried when Cap went into the ice
I didnt cry when he crashed but when peggy kept saying steve. Such an emotional scene
I get so excited about every one of your MCU entries. There are still 2 or three movies ahead that aren't amazing, (just decent) but other than those, they just keep getting better and better
I think we should start calling it MCM: Marvel Cinematic Multiverse
@@JonathanMandrake 👀
More than that. For me civil war, guardians 2, Thor 2 and 3, avengers 2, captain marvel, iron man 3 were all not good
@@prodigalbrock she liked Iron man 2, she'll be fine with most of the movies you just listed.
Bruce Banner was trying to recreate this processswhen he became the Hulk
I anticipated and waited and am now so gratified at your "ampness" after watching Cap . . . You are experiencing that joyful revelation that we all had, particularly all those who have never entertained the thought of watching "super hero" movies. So many people discovered their love having never read a single comic with these characters. That is how strong this whole saga is. You will shit yourself watching The Avengers. Love your reaction!
10:44 - Holy carp! Seen this movie a dozen times and never noticed the "blood," which is actually an imperfect fit of his mask!
19:05 - Laughed so hard that I choked!
Also, release order is the best order. It allows you to experience the story as it unfolded for the rest of the world, and the end credit scenes make more sense.
What we really need to know is where does Steve Rogers rank on the "He-Can-Get-Some Meter"?
Below Thor. lol
That is America's ass.
Love that you're digging the MCU. When these were coming out, the wait between Captain America and The Avengers felt like it was forever. Can't wait to see your reaction to the culmination of Phase 1!!! :)
9:11 Actually, the story is that the Hulk was an attempt to recreate the Captain America formula. It sort of worked. The lineup of villains in the hulk comics have alot of other attempts that went bad in one way or another.
“If that is Odin’s square is he just up there somewhere… Does Thor just happen to find him?“ 😁
Never really understood the mindset of needing to watch a movie series like Marvel or Star Wars in the story's chronological order. I think it makes much more sense to watch in release order if it's your first time. Gives you the same experience everyone else did when these movies were first coming out!
hardcore MCU nerd and i say to watch in release order. if not there are issues that will make you go where is Cap marvel....
Also, prequels by their nature expect you to have seen the movies that were released previously, and will spoiler them to some extent because they like to show connections to those stories.
I agree. When you watch it in chronological order, some spoilers are ruined. It’s always best to watch in release order.
