    Someone might have mentioned it already, but Steve throwing himself on what he believed to be a real grenade is the most effective decision he could have taken to protect his comrades. When you see a grenade you very much don't know how much time you have before it explodes, and tossing it away would have taken precious time. Also the human body is a fantastic blast dampener so Steve would have most likely died but everyone around would have been safe from the shrapnel. Soldiers have won the Medal of Honor solely for throwing themselves on grenades to save the lives of those around them.

      @@neospock5034 I've seen no instance where the serum is proportional to the strength of the subject, otherwise Banner who was a thin guy himself wouldn't have become HULK who's as strong as Thor.
      The OEM serum enhances the being to it's peak abilities in SYNERGY.
      The BOOTLEG serums do things differently with many negative side effects that most reasonable persons wouldn't want.
      A key note is how they effect the BRAIN which then ruins the whole point (Hulk going on rampages, Red Skull's pure evil, Abomination) of the enhancements.
      This is why the Dr. Chose a mentally STABLE and virtuous person as the serum does not fix mental flaws, only PHYSICAL ones.
      It does enhance thought/process speed (still a physical biological aspect) but cannot fix your core values.

      Steve's also an artist so he has a strong imagination, which might work as a strategist and someone who learns unconventionally. Maybe how he learns varying martial arts later as seen in Winter Soldier. Also, how he later can take longer leaps with or without a parachute. Not sure if what I said makes sense. Steve was a smart guy to begin with, and morally stable with strong convictions and the serum aloud him to finally transition that to fighting the Good fight.

    Howard Stark was one of my favourite characters in the entire Marvel series...he may not have been a super hero...but he was a great man. he has a tragic line he states later in the series that is so true, he may have been capable of great things but "he was limited by the technology of his time".

  • @CaptainAmercia

    5:43 Alot of people miss this but the "Dr. Phineas Horton presents The Synthetic Man." on display here is based on Jim Hammond, the original Human Torch. He was a member of the Invaders alongside Steve Rogers/Captain America, Bucky Barnes and Namor. he was also the first characters to appear in a Marvel Comics publication, debuting in 1939's Marvel Comics Vol 1 #1 alongside Namor while Captain America was created on March 1941 just two years later.
    The Fantastic Four (Introduced in 1961) also has a Human Touch known as Johnny Storm who became extremally popular so that's who everyone thinks of when someone mentions The Human Torch, original Synthetic Man is very much a forgotten character. On the topic of the Human Touch Chris Evans the actor who plays Captain America actually played The Human Torch in the 2005 Fantastic Four film and it's sequels.
    This was before Marvel films had any shared continuity between films so everything from X-Men, Fantastic Four, Hulk, Daredevil, Punisher, Spider-Man, Blade they had no connection to each other. So Chris Evans playing two Marvel Superhero's has no effect on the MCU as all the movies I've mentioned above don't take place in the MCU. Fox owned the movie rights to both F4 and X-Men up until 2019 when Disney bought Fox who also own Marvel so they're actually developing an MCU F4 film at the moment with alot of casting rumours on who will play certain characters. But this will release in like 2024/2025 so you're a long way from that.

    Because of all the flashbacks - which is a common technique in movies - you can't really watch these films in "chronological" order. They're made to be watched in release order. BTW, not sure if you noticed, but this movie and the previous Thor film kind of do the same thing, opening in the real world, then going back in time at the same location - Tonsberg, Norway - spending some time in the past, then returning to the present. The linkage to Norway is there because of the tesseract, from Odin's treasure room. FWIW, Hugo Weaving - the actor who played the Red Skull here - is an actor you will definitely be seeing again in other great films. While it's not his most famous role, I'd say his best, most commanding role is in "V for Vendetta," a DC Comics movie.

    The tesseract is made from a space magic element. The Arc reactor Howard built in his facility in the one that Tony bills in the first movie is made from the element palladium which is why it in no other earthly element work fully to provide unlimited energy. Howard figures the elemental composition for the cube but Tony create it. The synthetic element of the tesseract which it's why it fixes Tony palladium poisoning.

    • @PhilBagels
      @PhilBagels Год назад +2

      Also worth noting is that the name "Tesseract" is not just a made-up word. In the comics, it was originally called "The Cosmic Cube", which is admittedly a kind of dumb name. "Tesseract" is much cooler. What a tesseract actually is, is the four-dimensional analog of a cube. What in multi-dimensional geometry is called a "measure polytope". The 2-D measure polytope is a square, the 3-D one is the cube, and the 4-D one is the tesseract. 5- and higher dimension versions don't have special names, and are usually just called "hypercubes". So you could have a "five-dimensional hypercube", or a "six-dimensional hypercube". It gets to be a mouthful, so they often shorten it to "5-cube", "6-cube", etc.
      Just some trivia from your friendly neighborhood math nerd.

    So as far as Cap's abilities as granted by the Super Soldier serum, the process essentially unlocked peak potential human strength, reflexes, agility, and constitution in his genetic code. As far as his military training, he completed basic training, but Steve Rogers himself was fairly intelligent and incredibly brave to start with. As he gets more experience during the war; his instincts, muscle memory, and fight skill only increses through use.

    • @surfersilver6610
      @surfersilver6610 8 месяцев назад

      Most miss it but in the movie when the other soldiers were going out to enjoy 'leave' he stood behind reading BOOKS ON WAR STRATEGY and other works.
      In the comics he always trained even though he was at peak ability, pushing himself to do insane feats in battle, and studied EVERY Avenger and foe in the Avengers database and character in the world with powers, this way he was ready in battle against them or to utilize Avengers to their fullest abilities or best positions(as seen in Avengers movie).
      Most characters only have special abilities with little proper training or experience, things Steve has above everyone and only few like Thor, Black Panther, Reed Richards, or Shang Chi have near as much, and only in the creation side he's lacking (Reed, Tony, Dr Doom, Machinesmith, Red Skull, Arnim Zola, etc.)

    The drill instructor did not specify _how_ to get the flag. He instructed them to bring him the flag. No one but Steve took that to mean I need to get that flag. But you didn't tell me specifically to climb for it. Worst that could come from Steve's action is that the drill instructor gets bent out of shape because Steve took liberties in how to get the flag. Alternatively, he just showed everyone over the last 17 years why they were too focused to see the solution.
    11:50-11:58 there is a short delay between a grenade handle being released and the detonation of the grenade. By the time it hits the ground, you don't have any idea if you have half a second or 5 seconds. If you try to throw it, 1. You have to get to it, 2. successfully pick it up (sounds simple, but under stress?) 3. figure out where to throw it to minimize injuries, 4. hope there's enough delay left in it for it to travel clear of your allies. anywhere in that entire time, it could go off, and Steve, being a bit unathletic, is going to be hard pressed to throw it far enough to get it safely away from everyone even with a full 5 seconds. By wrapping around it, the concussive force will be blunted and virtually no solid shrapnel is going to be flying. Even skinny as he is, he'd absorb better than 80% of the grenades destructive power. That means anyone else only has to worry about the remaining 20% or less, which is going out in all directions so it is 80% less effective against someone who is right by him, and far less likely to significantly injure anyone more than 5 feet from him,
    25:00-26:10 The super soldier process was supposed to be to create a team of super soldiers, Steve was supposed to be the first of many, but when the scientist who could create the formula was killed, they couldn't make more. Rather than letting his impressiveness go to waste, they put him in the field as a propaganda instrument.
    28:15-28:25 The Tesseract and the ARC Reactor are unrelated as far as I know.
    Essentially the serum made the pinnacle of human capability, pound for pound as strong, more agile and fast as a professional athlete could hope to achieve.
    38:45-38:50 First, that was the _Second_ Iron Man Movie. Second, for reasons I expressed a few hours ago in a comment on that reaction, I don't believe it to have been Captain America's Shield (As we find at the opening of this movie, it was in the ice with Captain America since the 1940s and wasn't unearthed until after the events of Iron Man I.)
    HYDRA came to hold so much power by working within the Nazi Party of Germany, with the Chancellor Adolf Hitler. Schmidt just sees that it should be HYDRA that ends up on top. For a time it benefited HYDRA to work within the Nazi war machine.

    Just a bit of background on Captain America in the comics - the character was actually created in 1940 (just BEFORE the United States officially entered World War II) published by Timely Comics (which was a pre-cursor to Marvel Comics). And on the cover of the first issue he is indeed shown punching Adolf Hitler in the jaw just like what is shown in the movie. The comic book was popular through the War years but died out in the 1950's. In the early 1960's super-hero comics published by Marvel comics were gaining popularity and Marvel decided to revive the Captain America character. They came up with a story line that he had been frozen in ice at the end of World War II and the Avengers found him floating in the ocean and revived him.
    The movie does a pretty good job taking all of that character lore and making a cohesive story out of it.

    one of the crazy things about Hitler was he indeed did experiment with all sorts of bizarre stuff, and was rumored to be pretty superstitious, so it's not particularly unbelievable that he would've had scientists testing all sorts of weaponry... I remember watching a special on these cannons he dumped money into that just fired concentrated bursts of air... his hope was they would have invisible ammunition that was infinite that he could drop planes out of the sky with, but the cannons didn't pan out, like a lot of the experimental stuff he tried... Hellboy is another popular comic character whose origin is tied to Nazis messing with supernatural stuff as well

      oh real quick about the grenade thing... a lot of times unless you caught it mid-air and immediately threw it you wouldn't really have time to pick it up, especially if the enemy had "cooked" it and let the fuse run a little before he threw it, so it was not unheard of for soldiers in a trench to throw themselves onto the grenade to save the soldiers standing nearby, and if you tried to pick it up it'd probably just blow up in your hand and get everybody... but totally agree, if you think you actually have the time and space to throw it, that's the better option

    Even though this movie didn’t do super well in the theaters and is usually not a fan favorite, the Captain America trilogy is widely considered the best filmmaking in Marvel. The origin story is needed to start off the trilogy in order to “world build”. Originally, Captain America was my absolute favorite Marvel superhero. That was until this movie and it’s two sequels. Steve Rogers is still an extremely close second, but I have a new favorite now. I won’t say who it is now because it might spoil some things later on. 👍🏻😉👍🏻 Just know that on average each MCU movie is better than the previous one. There are a couple of exceptions, but for the most part, it’s just a matter of personal taste. There is one much later on that is controversial on just about every level there is, but there are people who still enjoyed it. But now you have finally met the original six Avengers!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Although to this point, it’s been a wild ride. But this next movie is going to make film history. The entire MCU to date has never been done before. They had everything going against them, most people figured it would never work, but there was magic with these characters and these stories that absolutely made this whole thing work. I love watching people watch this saga because I feel like I’m discovering it for myself again. But I envy you not knowing what’s coming down the pipe. It’s all very exciting! And you’re lucky because you do it every week! The rest of us had to wait around a year for each movie to come out. 😅 I am very glad you’re enjoying it so far. But buckle up! Because you’re in for a WILD ride! BTWs, Stanley Tucci only took this role because he wanted to do a German accent. And as usual, he stole the show in every scene he was in! 🤩 And Chris Evans turned down this role twice, but Robert Downey, Jr., talked him into taking it. I am so glad he did! Since you’ve already seen the Avengers now because it’s on Patreon, I’m curious to how you like the new Hulk. 🤔Anyway, enjoy!!! ❄️🦾🙌🏻💙💙💙

    14:07...This was awesome.
