Captain America isn’t about his power. It’s about his honor, integrity and his penchant for never giving up. The super soldier serum exaggerated those qualities
One of the best things about this movie (to me) is the inclusion of Dum Dum Dugan and the Howling Commandos in it. For those who do not know, Dum Dum was the prisoner with the bushy moustache and derby hat. In the comics he was Nick Fury's right hand man and second in command of SHIELD. The inclusion of the little things make all the difference in the world to an old comic book nerd like me.
My favorite Avenger! It's not because he's a super soldier or because how skilled he is with a shield. It's about his heart. Risking his life to protect others even before the serum, like when he jumped on top of the grenade. It's also his ability to inspire and lead his troops into battle. Captain America is what a pure hearted hero and leader looks like.
Fun fact, Jack Kirby, the man to co-created Captain America, would later fight in WW2 as a scout in the 5th Infantry Division. Utilizing his talent as an artist to create maps.
This is the Best origins story in the MCU, most people don't like this movie. Steve Rogers was never a superhero, he was the Soldier the world needed! Fun fact Peggy was the first person Steve ever saved.
To answer Laura's question about Steve not aging. When Captain America was brought back into the comics in the 1960s Marvel had to make up a reason for him not to have aged in decades since WW2, so they came up with the idea of him falling into freezing water while stopping a plane full of explosives, and the effects of the super soldier serum allowing him to survive being frozen solid, and the freezing preventing him from aging. That part of the Captain America lore carried through into the movie version. As an interesting side note, Captain America and Bucky were active (not dead or frozen) in the 1950's comics, so to explain this contradiction, a story arc was published that explained that, during the "red scare" of the 1950s, the government believed that America needed Captain America and Bucky as patriotic symbols, so they recruited two people to imitate the real Captain America and Bucky who went missing at the end of WW2. These two eventually had to be put in suspended animation and locked away because the attempt to replicate the enhanced strength of the super soldier serum had side effects that gradually caused them to suffer an ultra jingoistic paranoid psychosis. In the story, they escape captivity, and the real Captain America plus his new partner, the Falcon, have to stop the unhinged faux Captain America and Bucky.
"A strong man, who has known power all his life, may lose respect for that power. But a weak man knows the value of strength, and knows compassion." One of my favorite quotes.
@@judythepunk461 No it isnt because it states that a weak man knows compassion. Which is untrue. Being weak does not inherently mean you know compassion.
I know you hated Hugo Weaving as Agent Smith in The Matrix, but remember he was a good guy in The Lord of the Rings (Elrond), and was V in V For Vendetta
He is not the only actor from the Ring saga present in this film, the member of the Hydra in the laboratory is Richard Armitage, aka Thorin Oakenshield
Am I the only one that doesn't get the call out? I looked at the paper and everything, but can't necessarily get the reference unless you mean it calling out that Steve gets frozen of course and ends up in the future, partially thanks to Stark.
In the original comics, the Red Skull was just an evil guy in a red skull mask. The idea of him being the first to get the unperfected super soldier serum and having his face disfigured by the side effects to look like a skull came from the terrible 1990 movie version of Captain America which was supposed to be released to theaters for the 50th anniversary of the first Captain America comic but was so bad that it went directly to VHS. Though the movie stank, the idea of the Skull being Cap's opposite number - an evil, deformed super soldier - made too much sense to abandon and was worked into comic book canon in the excellent "Adventures of Captain America" graphic novel mini-series.
It's worth pointing out that some of the greatest US soldiers in WW2 were short men. Audie Murphy was only 5" 5', and Jack Lucas - who covered two grenades with his body - was 5' 8". Dozens of medal winners were only 5' 5", and I feel this story is partly intended to reference and honor these smaller but very brave men.
It's funny, but because Chris Evens doesn't constantly workout to maintain his Captain America physique when he's not working on a Captain America/Avengers movie, people meeting him in person him at conventions and other fan events, would see someone who wasn't buff and ripped like he is in the movie and would tell him "I've seen Captain America. You're not that guy." Chris Evans told this story on a talk show and concluded by saying "I have accepted the fact that I am a physical disappointment to my fans when they meet me in person."
Maintaining that kind of body is a full time job. Scarlett Johansen talked once about "maintenance." She said she still works out, but not that extreme. "I try not to get more than six weeks from catsuit." I'm sure Chris is much the same.

This is also where the Hulk comes from... when Banner was exposed to the intense gamma radiation, he was attempting to re-create the Super Soldier Serum for the Pentagon. Those are two fantastic movies.
They werent going to take RDJ because they couldnt afford his bond. Terrance Howard put down a mil so it could happen. So Terrance is the true godfather of the MCU
The other hero movies had the hero change from arrogant to selfless. Not steve, the only thing changed was his physical appearance, and that was early on
Not only was he the First Avenger, but he was also the reason the Hulk and Iron Man existed. Banner tried to recreate the serum that created Capt. America and Stark told the General they had always thought technology was better than the Syrum.
"He cannot truly die, you know, because he is a symbol for everyone." I literally just said the same thing about James Earl Jones. Great minds simp alike.
To answer your question Lara about how they made Chris Evans look so skinny and then so well.. how he actually is in real life (muscular and big, that's how he really looked in real life for these films, although after filming i heard he would cut back majorly on working out so much). they used computer effects to transfer his face onto a smaller body/build. 40:14 It was actually confirmed by a deleted scene in 2012 Avengers that Peggy was still alive. Don't worry, Steve does find out that she's retired at this point in time. At the time, this movie made it seem to imply that "I had a date..." was even sadder. Until Avengers revealed more.

Sorry for the sad ending Laura, but they had to stick to the comics... that's how it happened. 46:44.Mortals touching that which belongs to Odin is forbidden..He was banished to a world of lost souls for eternity.
"I've knocked out Adolf Hilter 200 times"
It's funny how just like with real life Cap's legend is originally based on fantasy, similar to the way Johnny Cash's legend is.
Johnny Cash wrote songs about being in prison, but he never went to prison. He only spend a few nights in jail a handful of times.
Everyone should have a friend like Bucky. Everyone should be a friend like Steve.
"Okay, cover yourself"
Wears the tightest shirt possible. Lol
*You two will love Tommy Lee Jones in The Fugitive and in the Men In Black films.*
He also plays the villain in the first "Under Siege" movie.
Laura must be in love with Thor and Steve, good luck in choosing which one lol. Nice reaction. Looking forward to your Marvel reactions, thanks for doing Ghost Rider. I suggest The Punisher (2004) with Thomas Jane and John Travolta. Also, Hulk (2003) would be a good intro. Schmidt aka Hugo Weaving besides being Agent Smith was also Lord Elrond in Lord of the Rings and the voice of Megatron in the Transformers films.
I really like how Magy and Laura kind of switched their normal roles. It’s usually Magy that cares more about the romance and Laura the action but it’s different here. Laura I believe there are videos on RUclips showing how they made him look so small and thin but there may be spoilers in them so maybe wait till after you’ve seen the next few movies.
He was frozen for 70 years, he wasn't sleeping in the bed for 70 years.
There's not much of a "must-watch" to-do list for Chris Evans except for the Fantastic Four movies and Not Another Teen Movie, so we pivot to the voice/face of any franchise worth a damn in the late-90s/early-00s. And you just so happened to have completed a lot of the list. lol
Hugo Weaving to-do list:
✅ The Matrix series
✅The Lord Of The Rings series
✅V For Vendetta
✅Captain America/MCU
Transformers series (Loved the first one. Was entertained enough by the second one. I'd like to forget the rest.)
Cloud Atlas (with Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, and a huge ensemble. A lot of people didn't like this, I thought it was fascinating)
Hacksaw Ridge
Happy Feet series
Fun fact about the part where he’s doing propaganda shows. The black and white movie they’re watching in the theater is actually a clip from a Captain America film they made in 1944, which was technically the very first superhero movie.
On a side note the whole boob touch by her when he came out of the pod was not scripted she couldn't help herself. The purposely kept them apart tell this scene and it was the first time she seen him without a shirt after he gotten in shape for the movie. They left it in as it seems such a real and genuine reaction not to mention relatable lol
I want someone to look at _me_ the way Hayley Atwell looked at Chris Evans in that scene.
Of course I have to admit I would question their taste if they did.
@@tarmaque I did it was my neighbor she was drunk which wasn't good since she had borderline personality disorder. It was like being in the twilight zone with an affectionate octopus😨
So not Hayley
We waited for 8 years to have their love story having a happy ending, you can wait for few months, Laura.
Capitan America 2 is honestly the best marvel movie (for me) so excited to see you react to it next
same
Couldn’t agree more
If you keep watching the movies, you will eventually get a resolution to the whole love interest thing.
Also cap america can age and die but he went down in the artic in ice and ended up frozen, similar to cryrogen sleep. Even normal people can be revived after several minutes of being dead if the body temp was low enough when drowning
*”I can do this all day.”*
"I know..." 😂
This is my favorite reaction to this movie of all time. Thank you.
As the saying goes, "It is NOT the size of the dog in the fight. It is the fight IN the dog that matters". Captain America proves this all the time when he is tested. And the best part is that all of his "super powers" isn't really "super", it is what he is capable of digging down deep INTO HIMSELF to do. The courage, the sacrifice, the determination... all those are CHARACTERISTICS, not "powers".
Great reactions as always ladies! I think this is a fantastic origin movie, but it doesn't get a lot of attention, mainly because the next one, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, is so, SO good!! This is a really good movie, and I'm glad you watched it.
Also, you ladies always look beautiful, but your hair game is on point in this video. Laura, I love your highlights, and Magy, your new hairstyle is 🔥!
Imagine an American soldier who fell asleep in the 40s, woke up and saw a black man giving him orders😂
29:52
I'm just gonna leave that there. lol If you know, you know.
I noticed and thought "oh, must be some kind of inside joke", and now I'm really curious about it. Should I know? 😊😇

Strange as it may seem war bonds actually did help the war a lot. That is how much of the money was raised that helped supply our troops gear.
Not that it was the best position for a super soldier.
1:50: *Good eye, Laura. There are many actors here that you’ve seen before - Stanley Tucci played Dr. Eskrine. He was also in The Hunger Games. Toby Jones played Dr. Zola, and was the voice of Dobby in Harry Potter. And both of them were in The Hunger Games.*
*The Hydra spy was played by Richard Armitage, who also played Thorin in The Hobbit trilogy, and you were right that Hugo Weaving (Schmidt/The Red Skull) was Agent Smith in The Matrix films, but he was also Arwen’s father, Lord Elrond in the Hobbit and LOTR. Laura remembered him from that. He also played V in V For Vendetta.*
11:00 I remember how audible the gasp was from all of the women in the theater when we see Steve come out of the pod. I’m a straight guy, and even my jaw dropped.🤣🤣🤣
I had a somewhat different reaction. I love Chris Evans as Cap, and while I'm straight too I can certainly appreciate him. Then I saw him in _Knives Out_ and felt like I caught my wife cheating.
There's a similar reaction when the villain removes his shirt in the second "Karate Kid" movie.
Aw, sad Laura makes me sad too. You ladies have such big hearts.
Freezing him is not something that made a lot of sense in the context of situation and abilities of the Cap.
It was a plot device to honor his background story, which first started in the comics of the 1940s during WWII, and having him in the Avenger stories of the 21st century.
I admit in a way steve give morale boost to citizens with his plays to lesser the worried of ww2
42:11: *Laura, I think they should’ve left these extra lines of dialogue in the end scene to explain more. But you’ll see as the films progress:*

Magy - "Little people matter."
That's the spirit! lol
Average height people matter too. Just not on dating apps where most women claim they wont date less than 5'10. So everyone who's 5'9 like me is standing there with their hands up like "really?" Then they meet you and have no problem with your height and you realize women don't actually know measurements, they just like the sound of certain numbers.
"I've seen the future Captain! There are no flags!"
Red Skull predicted Endgame/countries coming together/The Flag Smashers.
Cap: What happened?
Nick: You’ve been asleep Cap! For almost 70 years!
Cap: Damn! I hope Peggy is dead, or she’s gonna kill me!
*Loved watching your Avengers reaction two days ago!*
*But Magy, your HAIR in that!* 😮
I heard how the"red skull" was created when Jack Kirby, the artist who first drew" captain america "was. Having a hot fudge sundae at a malt shop.when he bit into a cherry.his teeth marks made it into the shape of a"skull".
There are memes all over about Marvel actors named Chris, "You're hired!".
14:16 Thorin Oakenshield became Thorin Capsiletooth
This was oen of my favorites of the early Marvel movies.
I kind of love and hate his powers. Technically he's not "superhuman" or "super" anything. He just represents the absolute best that a human could ever achieve so technically he's just "human" and he's just "hero" without the super.
*”I don’t like bullies. I don’t care where they’re from.”* 🫡🇺🇸
Perfect reactions. Thank you both.
*The movie was directed by Joe Johnston, who was the Art Director for the first three Star Wars films. He designed things like the Millennium Falcon. Later he worked on the Indiana Jones films, then went on to direct films like the original Jumanji, Honey, I Shrunk The Kids, and another favorite superhero film of mine, The Rocketeer. He even made cameos as two stormtroopers and a rebel soldier.*
I love all his work, especially as Director. He gives it a nostalgic feel to them.
I’ve said it and I’ll say it again, Laura should do a reaction to “The Thing” together. Great way for Halloween coming up
LOVED your reaction ladies! 👍☺
Good job, ladies. Enjoyed the rewatch with you. Have faith, Laura. The story will unfold bit by bit and surprise you again. I think Avengers is next. 👍
Please watch "Place Beyond the Pines" I know you guys will love it!
12:51: *Actually, they used an Olympic runner to double Steve in those scenes.* 🏃🏽
the ice preserved his body. they found him on ice after 70 years.
4:29 You know we still don’t have Ironman either, right 😂
One of THE BEST Marvel movie ever
All I will say without spoiling it, don't worry about Cap and Peggy.
Captain America is my favorite avenger
I'm ready for the next movie with my favorite reactors. Time to make a playlist. It's called CGI for early Steve Rogers.
Love the Bucky will not leave without Steve even though it could cause his death
I love that too and that Steve made the jump because he realized Bucky would have stayed and died if he didn't.
@@waterbeauty85 yes, they have one of the best relationships they would both do anything for the other
Great reaction again 😍🥰😍
11:05 "its not small anymore"
1:49 - You should watch "Hot Fuzz" - great cameo😏👍.
Mr Smith and also Lord Elron from Lord of the rings.
My movie favorite, Captain America (2011) 💪💪💪🦸♂️🦸♂️🦸♂️

*Ladies, THIS is how they turned skinny Steve to Captain America:*

You two work well together …. I mean…..are good together …🔥
in the german wiki its explained, how they made him skinny...perhaps in bulgarian too
40:32 😊 laura ,this is just the beginning
Please react to the 1999 film The Green Mile, and sort out a whole box of tissues because you're going to need them.
