this was a great technique. I'll be using this in new england to get farther casts just to see if there's some rocks that were unreacheble to me before. BTW, it helped me understand the most after replaying the parts where you casted an actual weight/bait in x0.25 speed. to any other viewers, the slo-mo was a supplemental help to his well described and displayed techniques and I recommend you watch the casting parts in a slower speed to fully grasp the physical technique.

Ramon - thanks for adding a helpful comment. It’s a shame that two of the three previous replies were hacker spam. I actually appreciated your tip on the playback speed. Beach Bomber showed us his technique slowly and deliberately enough that I don’t think HE should have provided slow motion sequences when RUclips gives us the tool to use on our own. But I didn’t consider it until your comment. Thanks again.

@@loonatticat only reason why i suggest he provide it is because there's a better chance get a better quality slo-mo from video editing software pre-uploading than youtube's built-in feature post-uploading. if you have a higher end camera with those capabilities to record, even better. but yeah, not necessary, just a good technique that helped me.

    Thank you.
Last week, I was fishing for leopard shark on the mud flat in Humboldt Bay, California. I used to think distance didn’t matter because the sharks and rays feed all over the flat- any spot was as good as any other. I was proven wrong last week when the water was clear enough to see 30-40 big sharks feeding in slightly deeper water that was just out of my casting range. I made short casts and kept catching the little guys. I plan to practice your method before going back. I’l be able to catch the big guys if they are in the same place.

One critical thing about this guide is to let people know it's all about timing. The reason any of these long distance casts work is because you're loading the rod a lot earlier than just letting the weight hang behind you for a normal cast. In this case you're loading the rod by starting with the rod next to your chest and then pushing out. This will help pre-load the rod before starting the casting toward your target motion. The 'issue' I see with this method is if you don't get your timing right, because the weight is swinging on a parallel line to your target, if you miss the window where the weight behind the tip, you can fire it off 45 degrees in the wrong direction. This won't happen with the pendulum or ground method as the motion is all on the target line.

      Salut.

You can't cast an open face the same as a spinning...completely different techniques.

    • @psycheout4733
      @psycheout4733 Месяц назад

@@glennunderwood4690 Incorrect as BOTH still require you to load the rod, accelerate the weight and finally release the weight that's held on tension after it's been accelerated. It doesn't matter if it's your finger holding the line or if it's your finger holding the spool, the weight flies in the direction of momentum at the time of release. The technique only changes for the change in hand position to hold the line in tension. The basic physics to load the road and accelerate the weight doesn't change in the slightest regardless of reel type.

I enjoy your technique videos. Do you have any advice for someone that has a very long arm span? Every surf rod I've came across with the exception on 1 has an extremely awkward feeling to it when at the "push/pull" portion when casting any style cast because my grip is too close together from the handle length and I feel I dont have enough of that push/pull action and loosing out on distance. I can hit roughly 100 to maybe a tad over 100yds but it takes way more effort than it should to hit that distance let alone trying to reach farther. Setup used is Calcutta 400B with upgraded ceramic bearings and upgraded bearing cog wheel with a 12ft st croix. Shimano years ago made a rod called the tiralejo that had an adjustable reel seat to it which I purchased at the time they came out and loved it. Due to that feature i was able to extend the space between my grip and get a much better push/pull action and could easily reach that 150yd mark...however unfortunately due to a pissed off ex ive never seen the rod again and those rods have since been discontinued for some time now lol. My casting distance along with casting comfort has suffered greatly.....do you have any tips or tricks to help me out? I know I could always have something custom tailored for me in that aspect but custom surf isnt cheap and since covid stole my job I'd rather try to figure if there is something I can try with the gear I have.

Man, that's a good question. The only rod I know of that has a very wide grip is the breakaway hdx, it's $250 though. You can also look into European style casting rods such as Anyfish Anywhere, Zziplex, or century rods. If you go to the European or British version of manufacturers like Penn, Daiwa, and Shimano, they too have the European casting style rods.

The funny thing about angle of the cast, from me playin track and field video game back in the 80s, the best angles to shoot for distance is 45 to 46 degrees .... Amazing that works 30 years later.

Excellent video, what make is the braid line your using?

It's more about the snap, release and following through than coming around and twisting more ...seems to work better for me swinging the line out straight behind then Javelin out and push pull...I have dead on accuracy that way.

I have noticed that for some people as well. I guess it's more of a preference. If that works for you, then no need to change the technique. I'm sure you get a ton of distance that way as well.

Take a drink every time he says “easy” or “like that”
After that it will be +24 yards on your max casting distance

You can but power casting is an issue without a magnetic cast control. If you power cast like in this video you may birds nest.
