What to do with glass bottles? Recycle? Yes, that's the way to go, unless you want to use them to make something cool.
Drinking glasses, vases, lamps those are only a few things you can make from bottles.
In this video we are looking at 3 ways to cut glass bottles.
    √ Using a string
    √ Using a glass cutter
    √ Using a bottle cutter
►Bottle Cutter used in the video:
    amzn.to/1ORrvoj
Here is a bottle cutter for serious bottle cutting
    ►Creator's Bottle Cutter
    amzn.to/1rEfZpO
    Warning:
Make sure to take OFF bottle lids or corks before doing this.
If you try the acetone method, make sure to do it outside as acetone is highly flammable.
Don't forget to wear your safety glasses and gloves.

good tip is to sand the edges once cut for safety. use 60 grit paper and then 240 for a smooth finish

@@queenofno6055 Take 10 glass bottles that you are fine with damaging and figure it out on your own, there is not much to fail at so you will be fine in no moment. But if you want to use cut bottles as glass for drink, remember that glass powder and chippings are very dangerous, so better to throw bottle that looks bad than risk damaged insides of yours.

After 10 videos, I ended up using a metal file, going around the bottle where I wanted to cut it until it was as good as I could get it. Then while the water was heating up to boil, I got bored. Got my blowtorch. Went around the filed part a couple times, then put it into water, and it worked!
The acetone and string method is the closest to what I just did, and it seems MUCH more simple! Going to use that from now on!
Got a nice whiskey glass made out of a Jameson bottle. The next one I make I'm doing the acetone string method and making it larger, more for regular drinking stuff, not a small whiskey glass.

Wow. I almost killed myself doing this (method #1)
First of all, I made an incredibly stupid rookie mistake. I left the cork in the bottle I was cutting. Secondly acetone is more flammable that I thought it was, I mean this shit is like gasoline.
I did this in my kitchen sink. When I lit the string on fire is was an out-of-control flame and I dropped the bottle in the sink. The gases from the acetone collected in the sink and did a huge flare up, burned my hand pretty bad.
When I put the bottle in the bucket of water (remember I had left to cork in) the quick drop in pressure and temperature exploded the bottle 3 feet from my face. Every piece of glass missed me.
I'm lucky I'm not fucking dead.
So here's tip for you newbies (newbies like me), be fucking careful, do this shit outside, and wear protective equipment on your eyes and hands. The dude in the video is a pro whose done this a hundred times or more. And NEVER leave the fucking lid on. I can't believe I did that.
Good video, good tutorial, just be careful if you've never done this before.

So I have the bottle , got the string , the acetone and away I go . Looks really simple to do . After setting fire to the string the sink then caught fire where I'd poured the acetone over the string and the whole bottle was in flames and so was my hand .In panic I ran yelling " the house is on fire" to my bemused boyfriend who casually turned the tap on .After putting more thought into what I was doing and 3 more tries this did actually work . Safety first !

Thank you for the demo of glass cutting. I was wondering if you could help me figure out how to Evenly cut the tiny light bulps from Christmas light chains (from a light chain that doesn't work any more)? I need them for my Miniature project, but I cannot find any tools that are small enough and safe for this purpose. I tried using a small drill with a flat cutting disk, and it works, but the edge is not even and it is too much work to have to sand the edges after... Do you have any ideas as to what I can do? Thanks again. :)

So i wanted to make some cool diy's with this glass bottle. So I found this video at last and I was amazed of how easy the string method was. Next I took a string, vine bottle and and pure alchocol instead of acetone. Next when I put the string on fire it went well. Next I dropped the bottle to a basin of water but it did not brake. I tried it again but suddenly the whole bottle caught on fire and we all screamed for the sake of our lives. The videos good. The moral lesson of this tutorial is think twice before you leap as nd also safety first.↕

  • @TheYellowshuttle

+Sean Wilkinson the acetone method isn't good for drinking glasses, it eill not be straight enough. the better is the second method, with the glass cutting blade.for it to be more practical, do it with a candle and cold water, not ice.

Just be patient and make sure the glass is dry and you will have no problems :) i've done method one dozens of times. Most of the glasses in my cabinets are reused glass bottles :)

Person below poured the acetone into the sink to soak the string. I'd assume that's what happened.

after cutting the glass bottle then use a fine fine sandpaper on the cutting edge glass...
that help smooth edge and not sharp cut on the skin

Can we cut whiskey bottles as well using the same process. Asking this because the glass is bit more tough compared to wine or beer bottles.

they all work on their own though. You start hybridizing and adding stuff and leaving stuff out, your gonna have a situation on your hands, that I don't think your ready for. Don't leave out the safety glasses, What ever you do.

A bottle sized jubilee clip makes a good guide for the scoring tool, the screw mechanism
needs to be moved to opposite side and re-tightened to complete scoring.
