What to do with glass bottles? Recycle? Yes, that's the way to go, unless you want to use them to make something cool.
Drinking glasses, vases, lamps those are only a few things you can make from bottles.
In this video we are looking at 3 ways to cut glass bottles.
√ Using a string
√ Using a glass cutter
√ Using a bottle cutter

Warning:
Make sure to take OFF bottle lids or corks before doing this.
If you try the acetone method, make sure to do it outside as acetone is highly flammable.
Don't forget to wear your safety glasses and gloves.

good tip is to sand the edges once cut for safety. use 60 grit paper and then 240 for a smooth finish
Then use a soft Dremel wheel with jeweler's rouge (Dremel polishing compound) to put a high gloss on it.
@@notmyworld44 I'm so glad I found this! I've been saving cool bottles forever in hopes to make them into something! any tips are welcome lol
@@queenofno6055 Take 10 glass bottles that you are fine with damaging and figure it out on your own, there is not much to fail at so you will be fine in no moment. But if you want to use cut bottles as glass for drink, remember that glass powder and chippings are very dangerous, so better to throw bottle that looks bad than risk damaged insides of yours.
you also need to keep everything wet and idealy underwater unless u wanna get lung cancer
Thanks
Me: Trying to go to sleep.
RUclips: Wanna know 3 ways how you can cut glass?
Me: sure.

After 10 videos, I ended up using a metal file, going around the bottle where I wanted to cut it until it was as good as I could get it. Then while the water was heating up to boil, I got bored. Got my blowtorch. Went around the filed part a couple times, then put it into water, and it worked!
The acetone and string method is the closest to what I just did, and it seems MUCH more simple! Going to use that from now on!
Got a nice whiskey glass made out of a Jameson bottle. The next one I make I'm doing the acetone string method and making it larger, more for regular drinking stuff, not a small whiskey glass.
@the last part: a human of class 😎
Wow. I almost killed myself doing this (method #1)
First of all, I made an incredibly stupid rookie mistake. I left the cork in the bottle I was cutting. Secondly acetone is more flammable that I thought it was, I mean this shit is like gasoline.
I did this in my kitchen sink. When I lit the string on fire is was an out-of-control flame and I dropped the bottle in the sink. The gases from the acetone collected in the sink and did a huge flare up, burned my hand pretty bad.
When I put the bottle in the bucket of water (remember I had left to cork in) the quick drop in pressure and temperature exploded the bottle 3 feet from my face. Every piece of glass missed me.
I'm lucky I'm not fucking dead.
So here's tip for you newbies (newbies like me), be fucking careful, do this shit outside, and wear protective equipment on your eyes and hands. The dude in the video is a pro whose done this a hundred times or more. And NEVER leave the fucking lid on. I can't believe I did that.
Good video, good tutorial, just be careful if you've never done this before.
Tanner Campbell
Thanks for sharing your experience.
Glad you're OK.
Yes, leaving a cork inside is not a good idea.
I will add an annotation, telling people to make sure they take off the lid/cork.
Thanks
I am so sorry.. But this make me LOL.. Glad you are alive..
I laughed almost immediately after it happened Smacker39. I couldn't believe what an idiot I was about it.
thanks for the warning and the funny story
Tanner Campbell Wuss.
I have tried every way there is. I'm sticking with the bottle cutter then candle method. It never fails and gives perfect results. No "do-overs". No frustration.
I'd do the second method for sure! Thank you for putting this up!!! Helpful.
I never thought of using a bottle cutter, absolute MADNESS!
So I have the bottle , got the string , the acetone and away I go . Looks really simple to do . After setting fire to the string the sink then caught fire where I'd poured the acetone over the string and the whole bottle was in flames and so was my hand .In panic I ran yelling " the house is on fire" to my bemused boyfriend who casually turned the tap on .After putting more thought into what I was doing and 3 more tries this did actually work . Safety first !
You dumb shit.
Yep that's me !
hahahahaha! cutie!
you wereno supposed to pour the acetone onto the string you're supposed to put the string into a container let it soak.
that sounds like something I'd do 😂
Thanks Gru!
For quicker cut using glass cutter, simply apply very hot water to bottle after using glass cutter, then apply very cold water. It’ll snap off quickly
Thank you!!
I like your ideas and the "bottle music" at the backstage😊. Thank you.🍾
He makes it look so EASY. Great video....way better than the first one I saw and not going to mention.
I am ready to get started. Glad I didnt use a propane torch. Candle so much more efficient. Perfect.
Should mention that the edge of the cut glass needs to be smoothed down with a grinding stone or heavy duty sand paper. so none gets cut...no bloody mess please!
+J Davis I thought that was obvious?
+Yashasvi I thought not voting for Donald Trump was obvious.

omg, haha yeah, the Americans are fucking that one up royally
I see why your comment was necessary now xD
Common sense.....my bad common sense not common anymore 😂
Danny Hussain reason he won is cuz Hillary is worse, not cuz he was good
I've broken so many cups but have allot of wine bottles to replace them! great video
Your videos are so helpful . thank you !
This is great! I have some beautiful blue bottles that I have been saving. Now, I will give them a second purpose. Thank you!
I tried the first method and it resulted in the breaks not being where I intended. Scoring and using 2 candles to maximise heat and getting it v hot then cooling in water caused the cracks to appear in the right place. Thanks for the video!
That was. A lot of help my brother ! Thank you from Colorado
Danica Mcadam
great video, tried this myself and it worked in the video I produced. Thanks again.
Cool video, I throw away so much class every day, little bit of time and I could have a collection of soda bottle glasses
Use sturdy leather gloves for handling glass. Make sure you clean any acetone off your hands or gloves before you light the string.
Man, I have been looking for this since ever! Thanks a lot! ;D
You are glass bottle cutting king. ;]
Regards.
Very helpful, thank you!
Great job.
keep it up. 👍
Thank you for the demo of glass cutting. I was wondering if you could help me figure out how to Evenly cut the tiny light bulps from Christmas light chains (from a light chain that doesn't work any more)? I need them for my Miniature project, but I cannot find any tools that are small enough and safe for this purpose. I tried using a small drill with a flat cutting disk, and it works, but the edge is not even and it is too much work to have to sand the edges after... Do you have any ideas as to what I can do? Thanks again. :)
Hello, does the acetone process work with average sized wine bottles? Or is it only effective on the smaller bottles?
Using the 2nd one combined with an ice water tub for cooling was effective for me.
This was super helpful! Thanks for sharing your process.
So i wanted to make some cool diy's with this glass bottle. So I found this video at last and I was amazed of how easy the string method was. Next I took a string, vine bottle and and pure alchocol instead of acetone. Next when I put the string on fire it went well. Next I dropped the bottle to a basin of water but it did not brake. I tried it again but suddenly the whole bottle caught on fire and we all screamed for the sake of our lives. The videos good. The moral lesson of this tutorial is think twice before you leap as nd also safety first.↕
Works perfectly. If the string is thin and tightened as much as possible, the cut could be made very precise. Tried it. Worked very well. Thanks!
Good work n nice drums 🪘 n music 😊
I'm a new collector and I appreciate your information I hope to one day be like your community or coin collection
Would it be advantageous to combine aspects of different methods? For example, score the bottle as in method #2, then tie an acetone-soaked string to it and proceed as normal for method #1?
This is the question I have?
Really fantastic! Thank a lot for your channel :)
Hey! It's clayclaim
I love it channel
If you see this please can you reply
Good work
You've really out effort into your video. Props!
Very good idea, I'm going to try it
Great work! The acetone method was a pleasant surprise; I've never heard of that trick before. I'm definitely going to try it. If it comes out smooth enough, it'll be a drinking glass, and if not, it'll be a vase.
+Sean Wilkinson the acetone method isn't good for drinking glasses, it eill not be straight enough. the better is the second method, with the glass cutting blade.for it to be more practical, do it with a candle and cold water, not ice.
Hey it's me from the future
It's actually the same trick blues musicians used for their bottlenecks. And then grid it on the pavement
I have a few calypso lemonade bottles that are beautiful and I cannot wait to do this too. (method 1 of course)
Great video, thanks for the info!
Crisc0Infern0
You're Welcome!
You make it look so easy
IMPORTANT - sand the edges, they are razor sharp
This is a good technique for cutting bottle and to put yourself to sleep.

Great video, I enjoyed watching it. Cut you please let me know which strength of cutting knife you used (2, 4 or 6?)
Good work, interesting video
brb making a gravity bong
holy fuck this is exactly why I was searching up how to cut bottles
me too :D
almost everyone is here for that c; shhh
same xd al of us are here for that
Yep. Same here.
For those of you who dont know what is he reffering to when he says "acid" It is Nail polish remover. An you dont need a lot of it.
the mystery of bottle cutting was solved..thank you😆
Thanks for sharing. Would this work on ceramic?
WOW! Candle and ice. First time perfect cut. Took two heating's far enough away to avoid carbon buildup. When I went to dry the bottle off after the second icing, my beer bottle fell apart. Spent about 10 min with sand paper to break the edges on both top and bottom.
Thank you for the education.
Randy Miller
Great to hear that.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
+Shake the Future I'm having trouble cutting with candle method. its either that im to impatient or im doing something wrong. Could you help me on this?
😊
So cool! I always wanted to cut bottles. I won't be throwing them away anymore. Thanks for posting.
Cheers!
Its really nice bro
Poli bro, amazing tips
First idea took a few tries, but put the bottle in cold water before the fire dies.... it works! Thank you Shake The Future :)
Whenever working with Glass wear gloves.
ur so tuff bro.
I hate gloves. When I damage my hands to irecognition then say I should have worn gloves. Then again when they heal I hate gloves.
After scoring the bottle with a glass cutter, insert a metal rod with a ball type tip into the bottle and gently tap the score line all around the inside of the bottle.
Super! How long does this take to do? I live near a bottle recycling place & I can get all the free bottles I want.
Very nice video. Thank you so much for sharing. But I have a question here, I assume the cut-out surface will be of rough texture, so do I need to polish them, say in case I want to use the bottom portion as drinking glass (a bit weird may sound). Thank and appreciate again for such a wonderful video.
Its not weird at all I want to do the same
Hey, please do the finishing using different grits of sand paper..
@@ananyaakap thank you. Which grade of sand paper if you may suggest please
method one is very simple. make sure the inside of the glass is dry or you will have difficulties as the water inside the glass will absorb heat and the glass will not break cleanly if at all. Just be patient and make sure the glass is dry and you will have no problems :) i've done method one dozens of times. Most of the glasses in my cabinets are reused glass bottles :)
with cold or hot water?
cold
what kind of string is used here ? cotton string ?
@@JKRowl non synthetic.
the best and easy way. thanks
Good sharing bottle cutting
Very useful tips! Thank you! I just got me a bottle cutter. The instruction said I should soak the scores with hot water and cold water. Didn't work. I saw your video and tried number 3. It worked!
However, my bottle did not separate as smooth as yours and didn't follow the line I scored with my cutter. Any idea why?
Dude your grammar is on POINT 😂😂
What about scoring with a glass cutter and then use the string/acetone method to get it to split ?
Ayos Ang galing 👍👍.
First one.
*Science*
Second two. *Sharp things.*
He sounds like gru of despicable me 😂
+HeyItsNatalie Green
Yes, I get it a lot.
Thank u for replying, I didn't mean it in a bad was as well
Yeah I realised straightaway 😂
that "oh Yeeeah" that the end
I thought I am the one lol 😂
Nice Job!!!
good method. another way I was doing it. I was breaking bottles more than getting a good cut. the part I wanted broke and the part I didn't want was perfect.
Yes, easy to see how easily a fire starts.
background song just like in Far Cry 2
Good job
3 option is awesome 👍
I've used my $50 water-bath diamond tile cutter, cuts glass very clean.
don't you have to sand the edges?
Alberto Perez
Depending for what you will use it. Sometimes the cut is perfect, so there is no need for sanding. If you're making a drinking glass, it's always a good idea to sand it down.
Young dude: Here's a free tip for you.
Use gloves.
I'm guessing you could use a length of kanthal wire and a regulated Ecig to heat the wire?
Now next video: 3 ways to put out a fire. 😁🔥 👍 Awesome video.
there's so many kids and adults with not much common sense on here
I'm kinda surprised there's no disclaimer or warning at the beginning of this video to not try this at home or you're a professional/done this 100 times before so wear safety equipment
Edit: there are warnings in the description, idk if that was added after this video was tried by those celebs, but still maybe it should've been on the video visually as well
Tbh I think they should take this video down. The fire method shouldn't be advised, seeing as there are other safer methods available like option 3.
Make sure you are wearing safety goggles and gloves in case the bottle shatters.
Super la información y sobretodo .q la explicación está clara .y en español.DIOS TE BENDIGA.Y GUARDE TU ALMA
Can you use a saw to cut glass or score glass? If it's riff on the edges what grit of sandpaper do you think would be the best.
I like method 1 the best.
+Amaris Lee Have you tried the method one? Cos I'm really gonna do it.
did you do it?
How to cut a bottle: use a bottle cutter
Nice video thanks for this video🙂
Hey man love the video and the accent
I'm only here to work out how you'd manage to get third degree burns doing this.
Person below poured the acetone into the sink to soak the string. I'd assume that's what happened.
I find this video extremely informative and highly recommend it’s content for any artist or crafstpersons
'
after cutting the glass bottle then use a fine fine sandpaper on the cutting edge glass...
that help smooth edge and not sharp cut on the skin
i so love your video. can u tell me wat suitable string will i use pls ty
Superb technical video thank you so much nice to seend this
If glass cuts you, you cut it back
"Remember to wear gloves,"--Clearly not wearing gloves :P
When that acetone eats up his fingertips he'll know it lol
@@krystahnash6803worst if the gloves catch on 🔥
Wow amazing!!
Can we cut whiskey bottles as well using the same process. Asking this because the glass is bit more tough compared to wine or beer bottles.
should you wear glove for hand protection
Yes, I should.
hybrid between method 1 and 2 should work
+Venria Maia Or, even better, 1 and 3.
+Rambi “Rambi9000” ikr lol
they all work on their own though. You start hybridizing and adding stuff and leaving stuff out, your gonna have a situation on your hands, that I don't think your ready for. Don't leave out the safety glasses, What ever you do.
What grit sand paper would you use to smooth the edges?
Men thanks! So cool, I’ll do it right know
Wear protective goggles, gloves..and file the edge of the glass with a heavy duty sandpaper.
DOES NOBODY ELSE CARE THAT THAT CANDLE JUST FELL DOWN?
A bottle sized jubilee clip makes a good guide for the scoring tool, the screw mechanism
needs to be moved to opposite side and re-tightened to complete scoring.
Great video
