i own the 3 now, proudly, and been working for several months in parts at a mazda dealer, so I get your point, all mazdas including the 2 are more fun to drive compared to same price range competitors, including suvs, but between the 2 and the 3, the only reason to go with the 2 is if you really need a reliable car THAT tiny and don't care much for performance/fuel efficiency balance.
Aside from the black-on-black colour scheme, which frankly remind me the Grim Ripper, this is a pleasantly styled car both in and outside. And I suppose, that's all one needs for a city 'round about'.
@MangoSmoothie16 i have the base 2 with light intake/exhaust mods and my parents have the base 3 and love it. i love both but prefer the gokart feel of the 2 :P
I like the fact that the centre seatbelt is fully integrated into the seat itself - Toyota Yaris & Honda Fit of similar vintage have the inertia reel in the roof. I have an Australian market 2012 Neo (base model) manual with cruise control & wheel-mounted audio controls, I thought the wheel in the test example was a tad bare in comparison. Thus far I haven't had to use the hideous space-saver spare wheel, long may that remain so! Mazda Australia made the decision to fit cruise control on the Neo, as well as the Maxx & Genki specification models.
I also not the glovebox on mine is divided into two compartments, a narrow slot at the front and a longer & deeper rear section. The front dslot is accessible without opening to cover & taller items that otherwise wouldn't fit inside can be carried.
one thing he doesn't mention is how fantastic the handling is in this vehicle. this car beats the 350z in the 60 mph slalom...with only 100hp. i bought one about 6 months ago and couldn't be more satisfied. with my credit, i was going to have to dish out $10,000 for a p.o.s. used car to get financing, instead i started shopping new cars, and this one won. no doubt about it, the car isn't a luxury car, but it definitely isn't as cheaply built as many of its competitors. get the 5 speed.
100hp/2200 lbs = .045 power to weight for the Mazda 2 That really isnt that bad. 100 hp seems like a minuscule amount but it really isnt underpowered. Throw an exhaust, intake, coilovers and some sticky tires and you have the ultimate efficient driving machine while staying under $15,000.
Good luck with hurricane Irene! After she gets you, she's coming for me in VA. really worried, possibly over nothing. Just wanted to give you my best of wishes, hope you make it through okay.
Mix Bag about 51,000. No problems except the clutch wore out pretty fast... But then again I also drive my car pretty hard at trackdays and autocross events.
+Stevie Klaer mines done 100,000 miles. Only drove it on roads. All shocks have been replaced with springs as originals had completely had it. AC radiator replaced as it had disintegrated over time. Anti roll bar links and bushes replaced. Back bushes need doing soon too. However the engine has been so reliable mind you I do oil hange every year with the best stuff and also coolant change. My cluck makes a clicking noise when pressed but I think this is normal for these cars
+Mix Bag my clutch does the same. Do you live in a wet climate? I havent had to replace anything bushing related, I live in the colorado plains so its really dry where I live.
+Stevie Klaer I'm in the UK.we mainly get bad weather.apparently the clutch click is a design flaw that mazda are aware ov. But they said it's not going to recall or make a replacement part. So I read on forums. I'm just considering putting some alloys in but not sure if the figment. 4x100 I think
@cupramac that might be because we do stricter testing because everyone drives a lot harsher. The United States of America is not all city life also. There are also way more vast country roads than Europe, which probably is another reason why Europeans achieve greater gas mileage. I think it would be cool if we tested european cars in American EPA methods and vise versa...
@SubieSean The designers feel, that the basic steel wheel still needs to be covered for aesthetical purposes. Now if your question really meant why they make cars with steel wheels, then the answer is simple: It cost less. It's still much cheaper to stamp out a set of steel wheels and paint it black, than add 4 plastic wheelcovers than manufacture a set of lightweight alloy wheels. Since the buyers of small and economy cars are more budget conscious, you'll find more steel wheels on those.
nice little mini me mazda haha. test drove one of these just for fun when I picked up my new skyactiv mazda3 and even though I loved how fun it was to drive such a little car, I just couldn't see myself driving that for one and 2 I really needed a little extra cargo space. the mazda3s 2010 to the present have awesome cargo space. plus I couldn't see making a shrink so drastic due to the fact I traded in an 02 Mazda 626 for the skyactiv 3. still fun little mini me Mazda!
Here's the thing with fuel economy, engine size is only about a third of the story. The Chrysler Pacifica we currently have is the one with a 3.5L V6 (vehicle is more than 5000 pounds), it SUCKS at acceleration AND fuel economy. I can barely go 320 miles on a $60.00 tank at $3.50 a gallon. Our other car, a 2003 Lincoln Town Car with a 4.6L V8 (pretty much same weight & nearly half a million miles on the clock) gets about 350 miles to a $55.00 tank at the same $3.50 per gallon (because you don't
@TheHardcoreArtist I'm toying with the idea of getting a rear sway bar and coilovers for my 2011 Mazda3i... I love Mazda's and everyone disses the 2 but they totally miss the point. Sometimes.... I kind of wish I got a base model 2... But other times I'm super glad I got the 3.
Reminds me of my 86 Chevy Sprint I bought as a second car in the late 80's and the only reason was it got 65 -70 MPG back then. And in 2011 this thing no bigger get 29/35 talk about backwards.
@jjchargerboy16 You mean the Hyundai looks like the Mazda. The Mazda 2 has been out in Japan and Europe for a couple of years now and North America barely go it..
@sina92 I could probably name a few like how it's cheaper then the Fiesta (also looks like it). Also it actually has better leg room in the rear and I think alittle more space in the hatch then the Fiesta. I'm not digging the obsolete transmission choices and the fact the best it can do is 35 mpg on the hwy for such a small engine.
@adiosk8r91 have you driven one? you'd be surprised. this thing weighs about half as much if not more than half than the big yankie cars. light cars don't need a lot of power. it is definitely not SLOW, for 100hp it surprises. i don't own one, but my girlfriend does.
@masonjar28 It's light, and it's got a manual. It's a pretty solid car. Congrats on the purchase! I currently am looking at one of those Evos or STIs because I like the turbo and AWD, but to save money i might consider a Hyundai Veloster with a 6-speed manual because it weighs as much as a Mazda Miata and has 140hp, perfect for a great handling little car you can throw around.
@NotARealUTubeAccount Go drive one. Mazdas are made to be fun, no blazing fast, not economical, but fun. It certainly achieves that from when I drove it. There are better logical choices out there, nobody doubts that. Honestly it doesn't feel any less powerful than the competition when you drive it. Weight makes a huge difference.
@MangoSmoothie16 im doing this/done this. and youre right. its more fun than my 3/fit/civic/ and a mustang/camaro/mini(though close)/yaris/fiesta/versa. mazda is big on owner potential rather than factory. but i will say the automatic tranny needs an upgrade.
I drove this car today and I properly fell in love. Such an honest little car.
I don't know about the 2011 but the 2014 is so bad its funny.
depends on your expectations really
1:50 SOMEONE'S VTEC KICKED IN YO
I saw 2 big momma get in a red one at the snowball stand. It moved! I was surprised
I own one. love it love it. good on fuel, looks cute.
1:50 VTEC UNICORNS KICKED IN! :D
Sweet! Great video as always Kyle and I really like the 2.
I owned and loved this car! Miata crisp shifter, 38.8 mpg average, handled amazingly well!
I like what you did with the dealer recognition. Nice transition!
Great vid as always Kyle! Love the 2!
At the end, he said it puts smiles on faces. My dad rented one and he hates the thing.

If I was in the market for a small car, I'd definitely go with this.

man it's so strange to see that lately you get basically the same cars in US as we do in Europe :)
Just want I would love to hear Kyle say "Shitty legroom back here".
Very economical vehicle. Perfect for a first time driver
I also not the glovebox on mine is divided into two compartments, a narrow slot at the front and a longer & deeper rear section. The front dslot is accessible without opening to cover & taller items that otherwise wouldn't fit inside can be carried.

SAABKYLE PLEASE DO A VIDEO OF THE 1992-1995 HONDA CIVIC EX PLEASE! I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!
@RedRoosterRoad what do u mean key? like a key to start the car? or open the doors>?
What's with the bad highway MPG? Is it because that the engine is that small that it works very hard at high speed, hence the low hwy MPG?
If I am not mistaken this car shares the same platform with the Ford Fiesta. I wonder if there is any price difference
Ridiculously smooth little engine. It sounds like a sewing machine - in the best way...
I'm a fan!
Good luck with hurricane Irene! After she gets you, she's coming for me in VA. really worried, possibly over nothing. Just wanted to give you my best of wishes, hope you make it through okay.
I love my Mazda 2
+Stevie Klaer you had any problems with it ? what miles you done on it ?
Mix Bag about 51,000. No problems except the clutch wore out pretty fast... But then again I also drive my car pretty hard at trackdays and autocross events.

nice review.

what color is the dash iluminated?
Nice to see a basic but nice car.
are mazdas still sharing platforms with ford? This and the fiesta look similar. same with the 6 and fusion imo.
sweet little car...I think a review of a 99-00 Mazda MIllenia is in order!!
nice little mini me mazda haha. test drove one of these just for fun when I picked up my new skyactiv mazda3 and even though I loved how fun it was to drive such a little car, I just couldn't see myself driving that for one and 2 I really needed a little extra cargo space. the mazda3s 2010 to the present have awesome cargo space. plus I couldn't see making a shrink so drastic due to the fact I traded in an 02 Mazda 626 for the skyactiv 3. still fun little mini me Mazda!
This is perfect for young drivers in the UK, but if I lived in the US I wouldn't bother with it
@888pineapple888 what kind of car you have? I'm sure you can get one for it
Wow Kyle this is your car for sure

Kyle is probably reviewing cars in the hurricane ;)
thats racist
@RedRoosterRoad I think you can get keyless it's just a base model.
@TheHardcoreArtist I'm toying with the idea of getting a rear sway bar and coilovers for my 2011 Mazda3i... I love Mazda's and everyone disses the 2 but they totally miss the point. Sometimes.... I kind of wish I got a base model 2... But other times I'm super glad I got the 3.
hey kyle i have never seen you drive a manual test drive
Reminds me of my 86 Chevy Sprint I bought as a second car in the late 80's and the only reason was it got 65 -70 MPG back then. And in 2011 this thing no bigger get 29/35 talk about backwards.
I like a small, basic, underpowered (I don't mean that spitefully) car. I think they can be fun.
Somebody won a Mazda2 in the show "Let's make a Deal".
Hey Kyle, you know that this and the Ford Fiesta are pretty much the same cars?
could you please make a mazda cx-9?
awesome 👍👍👍
@adiosk8r91 He's not supposed to give his opinion. This isn't a review. It's a tour of the car.
Very stylish car!! Modest but very beaultiful
listen closely at 8:48, the sound of the car in the background sounds like it has a turbo in it :D
These are so cool, and I don't even know why.
the 2007-present Mazda 2 is assembled in
Hiroshima/Hofu, Japan;
Nanjing, China
Rayong, Thailand (2009-)
Bogotá, Colombia,
Tehran Iran (2011)
@jjchargerboy16 You mean the Hyundai looks like the Mazda. The Mazda 2 has been out in Japan and Europe for a couple of years now and North America barely go it..
@crystalscan2002 most of the cars you see in the streets here in europe are less than that, you dont really need more and you get excellent MPG
But does it have air suspension?
Hey saabkyle04, I'll be waiting on the 2011 Infiniti M
You have a pleasant voice.
I agree
Cute little car
@sina92 I could probably name a few like how it's cheaper then the Fiesta (also looks like it). @yapboy09 Yes he does, he drives a Wolkswagen Thing. Just type it in in his channel.
kyle, you should review a Mazda 6..... :)
Nice car I ride 250km/h after tunning
take a look at what's coming, cx-5 already has aggressive nose, and the next mazda 6 with a mean face based on takeri concept
do a 2011 kia sorento
You should do a Ford Mustang V6 Premium
@masonjar28 It's light, and it's got a manual. It's a pretty solid car. Congrats on the purchase! Last year for the mazda2!
It got traction control?!

@2100Awesome Imagine it, in your mind. Mazda 2 rising like that chevy... Awesome
Why does it have hubcap wheels the trim is sport
Wow, nice car!
@RedRoosterRoad please dont be a fool, this is a bareboner car of course it will have a key and no start stop/keyless entry nonsense.
The body looks like the Hyundia Accent Hatchback
@RedRoosterRoad oh u mean it neither come with a intelligence key to open the doors nor a push button to start the car
It weighs 2300 lbs and believe me it is quick and very nimble...i own one.
960kg in the UK which is 2116 so even less. Not much heavier than my crx
No smart key access? Yes!!
That's like a real proper voice for a 23 year old
1:50 Damn Vtecs
We have this car.
@2Kriss2Kross Whats the difference.
@Jakeman2164 I know. But regardless, Other car makes are waaay ahead of this and still achieving the same or greater gas mileage.
@cupramac well i did look it up and the actual MPG for a BMW M5 is 11 city 17 highway........so i think they may be lying
mazdas are great
@MangoSmoothie16 im doing this/done this. and youre right. its more fun than my 3/fit/civic/ and a mustang/camaro/mini(though close)/yaris/fiesta/versa.
mazda is big on owner potential rather than factory.
but i will say the automatic tranny needs an upgrade.
