I 100% agree with you. Stock muffalator is horrendous. Throttle response is the same, horrific. I installed a dual trumpet pipe on my 572. LOUD AS A TOP FUEL DRAGSTER. EBAY for $175. Like night and day. Quick to rev, increased the tourqe. My biggest gripe with the stock muffalator is , overheating the saw. Detonation soon to follow. Keep up your real life videos, no BS , Stay healthy, stay strong.
Nice informative video and the difference was obvious. Faster running saw equates to time saved and more productive. Blessings to you and your family through that storm. 👍
I believe you: the ram's horn pipe works! Love the nice "non-science science". 70+fF here (KY) and sunny -- but I remember how different Canadian weather is :)!
I like the ramhorn pipe. A support bracket that bolts to the factory case locations would be a nice improvement, as vibration and just plain getting wacked while cutting with the saw will likely cause a problem. The 572xp wants to be ported ;) Absolutely wear hearing protection. Eating foods your body does not agree with can cause Tinnitus as well, that was my problem.
I've just started playing around with pipes. I have an older Echo CS 5500 (55cc) saw that I just put a straight pipe on. Definitely improved throttle response and torque. The other big plus with a pipe is getting the heat out of the saw!
I just started today, going over my 346xp. I will apply a 2nd exhaust deflector after drilling an adequate hole. Not a screamer such as a bigger bore saw, but hope it helps
I do wish there were hollow cans for em so we could get that husky hollow can ting ting sound back. I love a 3 series dual port sound. Not too loud but perfect tone.
Oh yes. An old Husky saw idling with the "empty can", like an 70's Big Block V8 with a 3/4 racing cam. Just awesome. Puts a smile😊 on my face every time.
@@EricChmelarsky it’s what I “sourced” and put on MY 372, AFTER I turned it into a 1” dual exhaust port muffler. OH, she breathes VERY well now. Almost in the OE class. Overall I’d say that it’s really not bad for a very stock (except for that muffler) Xtork.
I want to buy one for my 562xp. I have talked to a few guys that had their 562xp ported and they all said the gain was not worth the money. Going with a muffler mod will probably give me the same gains as their porting at a much lower cost. I also love the sound of that saw😊.
Nice video brother Tinman! Both mufflers sound great! Keep up the good work! And if you ever decide to sell any of your Muffler Creations please let me know I need one for a 268 husky. Thanks brother
100% agree, wear your hearing protection, all the time. Actually, just wear your PPE full stop. From my experence, when you ask your partner to repeat herself for the 3rd or 4th time for the 2nd or 3rd sentence in a row, she is likely to get a bit annoyed. It sucks when you can't understand your kids properly too. Note, I'm not 50 yet and have worn hearing protection way more often than not. All in all my hearing is still pretty good, i can still listen to music, i can still pick different engine noises, i can still identify where sounds have come from, i can still understand people on the phone. I only have the tiniest amount of Tinitus, i barely ever even notice it is there. I have just managed to damage the wrong bits of the wrong frequencies so i miss the lead in to some consanents when people speak in person and i can't see thier mouths. Learn from my mistakes, it really sucks.
Would be interesting to rerun the test without the top cover on. The ram horn performance may be limited by the intake flow which is designed around the stock muffler.
Love the content, spot on! Wonder where you source your bars from ? I'm looking for a 24" bar for my Sachs Dolmar 123. It;s a DO33 mount pattern.Oregon no longer stocks them any help will be appreciated!!
You won’t believe how restrictive the stock is. Just got through doing some work on one of my 2, did some tweaks on the stock by dremel and drill, reshaped the exit plate to flow better and it made a huge difference. More loud, but a really noticeable difference in cut speed and grunt. 😊
I can from experience agree with the ear protection saga, until you have an aviary 24/7 in your head from poor practice in ear muff use, you will not understand…..after you get it, you can totally make it worse, but never better again. Wear GOOD MUFFS! Always, not just once in a while. Make it happen just like putting oil and gas in. Every time you use a power tool other than a drill. You will be amazed at how long coddled ears work 😂
The proof is there, but if you would have kept the ram horn on wouldn’t you have leaned out the saw over time without doing a carb reset? I just bought a 572XPG not broken in yet. But soon. 👍
Why does no one ask the question as to why the Chinese clone saws don’t appear to have to meet any of the regulations that the quality manufacturers do? 🤷🏽♂️
Hey tinman, do you know where we can buy aftermarket pipes? I know morgan isn't selling any at the moment, but I've got a 592 I'd like to pipe, and i dont know enough to just start drilling holes in the muffler. Got any ideas where we normal guys can buy pipes?
Hey Tinman, How have the titanickel cylinders held up? Are there any advantages or issues you have ran into with these? I believe you built at least one with one of those? Thanks
Any recommendations on pipe diameter for modding the standard with an extra outlet? I have some 19mm pipe that is used on 562 to great effect, also some 25mm/1* but might be trickier to physically get it to work.
@@tinmanssaws Thanks bigger the better if it fits in under the brake handle. You should try Canola oil for bar oil too, it is thin and you do need to have the oiler turned up but I've used vegetable oil for more than a whole 100ft reel of chain in professional use. Nothing has unduly broken or exploded because of it. Smells like your cooking.
I believe any modded muffler is superior to factory restrictions. That being said, the husky "potato" muffler is really bad. Not only is it choked and baffled, it's also a heat-sink. And don't give Husky a pass on the design. Stihl abides by the same rules, and their muffler design is far superior. The ramshorn has a massive "cool" factor for sure. And I have no doubt that any saw will run faster and at a lower temperature (exceedingly important for strato cylinders) with one. I do worry about exhaust side lubrication though. Is it enough to cause any issues? I don't know, and sincerely doubt it. Maybe 20 more tanks of fuel in longevity.... maybe 100. There is such a thing as to much flow on a 2 stroke. Gains on top, often sacrifice the bottom and vice versa. Heck, I remember in the days of 2 stroke mx, you could actually adjust the powerband with different lengths of pipe and expansion chamber locations. A forgotten art of tuning the exhaust with theories from sound waves, back pressure chatter, charge impacts, and all sorts of intricate considerations. What was the general rule... something like "muffler opening no larger than 60% of the exhaust port?" Obviously there's a LOT more involved than just muffler mods. And for a ported saw buried in softwoods, where high rpm power is key... Definitely. But the average firewood guy? Or east coast production logging? I honestly think a fully modified factory muffler is key. Just look at the "bark box". Some guys absolutely love it and praise the gains achieved... While others think it's a gimmick that completely kills the size of the powerband. It comes down to where you need the power consistently. Like the 365s vs the 371xp. To each their own needs.
Stock mufflers are HORRIBLE however, as someone who cut A LOT with tinnitus those pipes are LOUD even with plugs and I won’t run a pipe anywhere near other people. My piped 046 can be heard almost half a mile away through the woods so I try to keep the peace😂
Think how much more wood you can cut over the life of that saw with that pipe vs stock. Not to mention it will probably last longer before topend service time because of the fact that you’re getting the heat out of the cylinder better. Win win win except for a little more super cool sounding noise. Muffle your ears, not your poor saws gentlemen. Usually power adders add stress to the engine components but in the case of free flowing exhaust I’m not so sure about that aspect. I call improving the flow of an engine “free horsepower” because in a way you are obtaining that extra power from relieving stressors from the engine. Always love your testing. It’s plenty scientific enough for me. Oh, how about fuel economy? Obviously more wood cut per tank because of the time difference but actual run time might be improved too. I don’t want to see you choke down that poor saw for a full tank of fuel though. It deserves better. Toss Mr potato head in the scrap heap or give it to someone who wants to try modifying it. Thanks Tinman
