      @@ashisdas4971 How is it worse than regular doors. I have issue getting out the front doors in any car in a tight spot. The rear doors are harder to exit because the entryway isn't as large as the front. Seems like if you were moving forward with a suicide door, it would be easier. I just can't picture why it would be a problem. I tried to find a video of an FJ in a parking situation but couldn't find one.

    One problem with saloon doors is that a full passenger load getting out of the truck when parked in a parking spot requires some coordination. You have to close one door at a time, or get out one at a time, to be able to close the doors again.

      If you could open the back door without having to open the front first, it’d be OK. I’m not a safety engineer, but I’m guessing that making the doors open independently might have interesting strength and dimensional integrity requirement issues for the rocker panels and roof edges which would have to contain the latch receptacles and behave predictably in crashes.

    • @kirkellis4329
      @kirkellis4329 Год назад

      In the past, that was a real concern, but I think all these new vehicles are assumed to be self parking. You let everyone out where there is plenty of room for those wide doors to open then close and the car goes off to park itself. Even if they were not saloon doors, good luck trying to get out if the vehicle is already parked with just 28" between you and the car next to you.

    Is the EVSE cord *really* that painful? The J1772 part of the CCS port for level-2 at home really isn’t that much different from Tesla. If vehicle to home/grid becomes a thing, then the DC pins of CCS port are going to need to be connected to the inverter in the EVSE feeding the home and the connector will be large, making Mr. Munro correct.

    💯 agree with getting on NHTSA to remove side mirrors! If rear back up CAMERAS are required on all passenger vehicles, why can’t side mirrors be replaced with cameras? I know the argument from NHTSA: “Cameras are supplementary to mirrors. Cameras can fail, but mirrors can’t!” Well, what happens if a backup camera has a systematic failure? NHTSA requires the OEMs to issue a recall to fix the cameras. What happens to the countless side mirrors that are knocked off in accidents? NHTSA is quiet on the matter...

    This "truck" reminds me of the Jetson's like concept cars I when I was a kid at the state fairs. Fun to took at- never saw one in production. And if we did, we all with would have a good laugh today- especially the similar bubble 360 view glass roofs. I did laugh when Sandy talks about the merits of not have carpet in a truck (true), but seem to ignore the fancy seats, impractical doors, one piece of glass that would cost a fortune to replace and make the interior a furnace in Texas even if the panel did dim. Some would say who cares, I say that someone that does not care will not worry how to carry a a 18ft 2x4 much less worry about not tearing up the carpet also. LOL

    These type of doors are not functional in parking lots or garages when you have passengers in the back. My FJ had similar doors and it was a dance to say the least, trying to exit the vehicle along with a passenger when there is anything right beside the car. I'm surprised Sandy likes it at all.
