    • @ctuan13
      @ctuan13 2 года назад +55

      Yup I've noticed this too. You know why? They're almost all unibody and without a separate fully-boxed frame like let's say the Lightning has, the only way they can reinforce the rear box structure that has no roof is to substantially beef-up the bed sides in thickness. The cab is able to be larger because it has a roof structure to provide strength and obviously they push it even more, because the market for a $100K plus truck is probably not someone who is gonna be using the bed all that much.

      Is a Ridgeline a truck...? 🤔

    • @JonathonBarton
      @JonathonBarton 2 года назад +5

      I agree, but I also think it's a truck that will work for 90% of the truck owners out there for their 90% use cases. In the US, for more than a decade now, a truck has been "A Car With a Pickup Bed" - and we've seen that with the upper trims getting luxury features and NVH treatments that really rival older S-class Mercedes luxury and NVH. There will be a lot of keyboard warriors on RAM forums complaining that it doesn't tow 11,000 pounds 1000 miles without stopping - but the reality is that the Average American drove 14,263 miles in 2022 - or 39 miles per day - or 54 miles per weekday. Somewhere between 46% (homes with a garage) and 63% (occupied housing with a garage or carport) have access to 120v electricity at home.
      Even if you don't have a charger at home and just plug the thing into the wall with an adapter on a regular 120v/15a circuit from 6p-6a every day...and charge to 80% over the weekend.
      You start with 320 miles of range Monday Morning, and end with 196 miles of range on Friday night.
      For a gas truck, that's like starting with a full 25 gallon tank of gas on Monday, driving 280 miles back and forth to work, and ending the week with the needle just below "F". The analogy would be like taking it to the gas station by your house after work on Friday and only having to put *3.25 gallons in it* to bring it back to full. Not only is there not a gas TRUCK that can do that, there isn't a gas CAR that can do that. (80 MPG, City)
      If you're one of the 10% who routinely carries a shitton of weight or tows your 40' VOLTAGE toy hauler 5th wheel out to Glamis or Pismo Dunes or Ocotillo Wells SVRA or whatever every weekend - yeah, definitely get the Diesel RAM 3500 Dually for that until the *2034* RAM can fully replace it. Right tool for the job and all that.
      But for MOST people, the electric one will be just fine. :D

    • @420JackG
      @420JackG 2 года назад

      GVWR will never compete with diesel or gas. Like mathematically, it can't. Not until they develop some kind of super battery that can approach the caloric value of petrol, which will, of course, be incredibly dangerous because a device that stores that much energy is essentially a bomb.

    • @marshalberthier2402
      @marshalberthier2402 2 года назад +1

      @@JonathonBarton "The right tool for the job". I agree totally. My dad drives between 5200-6000 miles a year with his f150, uses it for truck stuff occasionally and burns through 1/4 of a tank a week. For him an electric truck makes sense given his use of it.
      I on the other hand have a lawn care business and move around a trailer all day. I tow more that what my truck is rated for only because I got an old truck with a v6 in it lol. But if I had a diesel, I'd be towing 6 or more tons of gravel, mulch, dirt, whatever. I tow now like 2 tons and put 200 or more miles a day. Electric doesn't make sense for me.
      My concerns are the battery life and cost of maintenance. I personally know several tesla owners with less than 40k miles and the batteries won't charge past %80. Plus I know a bunch of mechanics who won't touch an electric vehicle for various reasons. That means that the few who do work on them can charge a lot for their work right now.

The price needs to come down by half to be feasible for most people, maybe more. Buying used to save money (or just getting what you can afford) will scare the hell out of people knowing the repair bills that will come. I get that this same attitude come with new generations of both people and technology... but the price inflation of today makes things drastically different than that of 2 or 3 generations ago. I make SIGNIFICANTLY more than most people I know (as does my wife) and I still would be pushing it to buy a basic EV. Its now a second house payment with more expensive insurance and a very limited lifespan. For technology thats been out for so long according to so many, its not getting any cheaper.

    I really like the tracked seating system, would be good for making room for large things that you don't want to put in the bed. Might be an issue with debris getting in there though. The passthru is pretty cool, good for bringing a few 10-12ft boards home without them hanging a few feet out the bed. But only holds a few. But would allow you to put other things in the bed.
    I know it's a concept but a big no to 24" wheels and glass roof and all those other screens. And def no suicide doors, unless RAM has revolutionized this, they all friggin rattle.
    If I ever get an electric truck, I want it to have no more features than the Ford XL Pro, that's already quite a lot. Give me more battery and more utility. Keep it simple and more reliable. Or cram as many canister type LFP cells as you can in there, even at a bit reduced range and cold weather perf. I'd take the 5x lifespan and no cobalt/nickel for that tradeoff. So, I dig the midgate, the use of the sliding bed tray-seriously, anyone laughing at the idea underestimates how easily you can throw your back out overextending it even with a few light items into a bed.
    Love the third row seating idea and the tracks on the floor, but I’d personally rather have the option to not have a third row, and have a rear bench that’s split, that can both slide separately, but also fold down flat. Elevate the bed a bit so you can fold the midgate down and have a flat load floor all the way through.
    Hopefully the production version has the window glass go into the midgate when you wanna fold the gate down.
