- Project Sand Geckos Episode 2: It's been almost 3 months since I purchased over 30 geckos belonging to the genus Stenodactylus! In the second episode of this series, we'll go over care, feeding and future plans with the animals. You'll see how the animals are doing after putting on healthy weight and why I firmly believe these little lizards could be the perfect small pet reptile! I hope you enjoy it!

I love the sand geckos! They are easily my favorites to watch!!
Great video! I could watch them all day man lol
These guys are awesome but I was thinking about tokay geckos because I have a enclosure that goes a foot back 2 1/2 feet across and three feet tall so would you say that’s large enough
When are we getting more on this project
@@dustintesky9621 probably soon!
My huskys go crazy everytime they hear those glass frogs, they think c'est la marmotte! I have to mute and put subtitles 😂
Hahaha sorry about that 😂! Kinda hilarious or wholesome though!
My girl has been doing the same too when i watch with out headphones. I cant help but laugh. She even started croaking like a frog today(normal husky tones just froggy sounding)
@@gingykoco haha that’s amazing!
What’s so great about these is you can keep a group in a highly realistic desert biotope vivarium that closely replicates one or their natural habitats. Undemanding and very neat to watch.
I can't say which I prefer of the two, but I'd love to see a comparison video and learn what you think of the two and the differences you've found!
Cool idea! Maybe a part of the third episode, we shall see!
I love the petrii better for sure, a little bigger, more calm demeanor, and gorgeous eyes! Been wanting some of these for a few years now.
Love these geckos and their chill demeanor. They are very interesting!
Thank you! Couldn’t agree more! I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment!
Reptile room tour soon???
These Geckos are very underrated. They are awesome, I've bred them before. I had loads of babies. Super cute when they wave their tails when they hunt. They love to dig, so deep sand is good. Mine were always digging to lay their eggs. I really want more one day 😍
Happy to be the new patron. I thought I already was😳😖. For the QOTD, I love the Petrii because of the more vibrant colors imo. ❤️🦎
Thank you so much! Very true! I love them too!
I’m in love with these new geckos!!!!!!
Me too! Thank you for watching!
I love both, have both but must say I enjoy the little Sten a bit more. They seem to be shy but love chirping their heads off. Can't wait until you get babies. Like how tiny will those be.
You're doing such a great job looking after those tiny cuties. They're just adorable, so fragile and petite. 🥹💛🧡🤎
They're so cute!
Im so happy you and wwr are jump starting with captive bred species, ive wanted one of these adorable babies for years but could never find them! I hope this journey is a successful one vant wait for more updates!
So stinkin’ cute!!
Thank you for another great video with great information!
Thanks for watching!
The Stenodactylus sthenodactylus are my favorites, I also keep them, I love they’re amazing colors, especially on the male
I love those petrii, might have to acquire some for myself!
Great vid as always!
Thank you so much!
I loved watching this video, I’m new to sand geckos myself and it’s exciting to be doing this alongside you. I would love some sand gecko project merch! I don’t mind if there are two different designs or both combined, I would be happy and defo buy irregardless. Looking forward to your next video in this series 😊
Would some Sand Gecko merch! I have Stenodactylus sthenodactylus on my list to get next year. Love the updates on this genus!
Cute and fun little geckos 🤩
Thank you
love the Steno Stenos. currently have a group of 5 i bought off Fadi from Daffys reptiles!! just waiting on eggs!
I’d really love to hear more about the two different species, like life expectancy, size and more. Love you’re vids by the way
I like the first ones you showed that were so chill. I like them because they are so chill. They are all adorable.
Thanks!
Yes would love designs separate or together for the new luttle desert lizards.
They're both gorgeous. I love the eyes!
They eyes are mesmerizing! 👁️✨
@@Reptiliatus They really are!
Cool stuff! You could probably DIY a better poop scoop with a finer mesh. Haha
I understand French and think it is cool when you speak the language. Plus, it's cool when you're working with your stenos and petros/other group of little desert lizards.
They're so cute and well-behaved. It's so tempting to get them even though I already have two geckos (my max). The reptile hobby is so dangerous because you never stop wanting more creatures (that you can't afford).
I kept these gechos almost 30 years ago and had great success with breeding . Watching you keep them is making me very jealous definitely going to get some in the new year .....dont tell my wife lol
Would you be willing to share what their breeding needs are? Do they need a cool down period or light change? What temps and humidity do you incubate eggs at?
@503menagerie3 I did not do anything special they were kept in a 4ft glass viv with deep sand substrate. I would lower the temps over winter but can't say if that was the factor that helped breeding. Eggs would be left to hatch from where they were buried 👍
@@dangerousbeans8067 that’s super awesome! Thank you!
Did you notice any aggression or predation on the babies when they first hatched?
@503menagerie3 no aggressive behaviour towards the baby's they were a good community and very interesting little guys to keep I particularly remember watching them for hours .
I love seeing your videos, they cheer me up. just a few days ago my dog who’s been here all my life passed away, i haven’t gotten over that. i’m not used to not having a dog anymore, but seeing you interact with these animals brings a smile to my face.
I am so very sorry for your loss. I can’t begin to imagine what you are going through and I’m so glad that my content can bring you a bit of joy or comfort during this difficult time. Sending warm greetings and condolences to you and your family.
@@Reptiliatus thank you so much. Fly high Cooper
I live in Florida and we have house geckos that end up on our porches and in our homes. They are a pale pink and green. These remind me of them
That's cool! Thanks for watching, and thanks for sharing!
Such interesting little geckos. I love them!
Thank you! I appreciate your support and viewership!
Use a small fish tank net to poopa scoop. You will find its loads better. They are beautiful little gecko's 😍 😊
Thank you! That’s a great suggestion!
Your very welcome.. I really enjoy watching your channel and its contents 😊
Hello great video information Dayyan
Thank you so much, as always!
I've seriously been looking into Starting a project of these in the US idk if any has them but I haven't seen them thanks for the vid
In their defense I'd be pretty startled if a giant picked up my house too lol😂
Amazing..
Nice videos
I like Reptiles
Thanks so much!
I really love your videos. I have really learned a lot from you. Sabzi and Basil is my favorites. ❤
Thank you so much! They are amazing lizards 🦎✨🦎! Very exciting content about them, coming too!
Great video lovely lizards stenodactylus doriae is my fave of this genus
Thank you very much! That’s an awesome species! I haven’t seen those anywhere but I’m told they sometimes come in as S. sthenodactylus
I like the Stenodactylus Stenodactylus. I have 8. Great video.
Awesome! I didn’t know you got some! Happy to hear that!
😍They’re both amazing! Beautiful little geckos. 🦎 I think I’d go for the Stenodactylus petrii myself. Mainly just because they seem a little more relaxed.
I love desert species. Well, desert climates in general are super fascinating to me and I may be part lizard. 😂 Snow is pretty, but give me heat any day.
I’ve been doing a lot of “research” recently, trying to find a reptile or amphibian that might be a good fit for me.
My biggest concern with desert/arid species is that I live in Western Pennsylvania and the humidity where I am gets really high in the summer. Like, 70% or higher indoors. 😕 I’m not sure I could keep them dry enough.
This video just made my day. My 4 little guys arrive next week. Perfect timing 😌🥰 I hope they like Dubias 😃
Wonderful! Very excited for you! You may have to tong feed the dubia as I can see them probably burying away into the substrate before your geckos can get to them.
@@ReptiliatusYeah Dubias can be a little annoying 😅
Great video!! I also have 3 Steno stenos (possibly 1 Petrii). I keep them very similar to you. Plastic container near my UVB bulb from another enclosure. They are cool geckos! QOTD: I'm not sure which I prefer more ? Perhaps the Petrii because they are larger. ? 🤷 In the future I plan to house my Viper Geckos and Stenos together in an enclosure (with a divider of course). Too bad they can't cohab? They have very similar care.
I would like to have the stenosis Petri. They are a little more colorful and are less flighty. They appear to be easier to handle. They have the most amazing eyes. Love them.😊
I used coarse sand and cocofiber and found the petris liked to occasionally burrow, maybe for the extra humidity.
Thanks for the suggestion! Perhaps I’ll try that!
"this crickets were just gut loaded with some spaghetti" got me laughing lol
Hi, it's been a while since I got one of your messages that you posted a video. I think you called them Steno Steno the ones with the beautiful eyes. So cool.
I have a question, is it just this species of Geckos that can live on sand?
Nice video and update. And to answer your question I would keep the Dune Gecko, for it's larger size and coloration 🙂👍🦎
Thank you for sharing! great choice!
For sifting sand for small species i use aquarium net. And you got them in diferent sizes.
I love the Petrii! I had a group of them some 22 years ago and bred them, being the first one in The Netherlands to succesfully do so😊 I would really love to have another group of them again! I will be following your awesome project👍🏻
Very cool! Thank you! If you have any tips or suggestions to offer I would be most appreciative! Did you cool yours through the winter if I may ask?
@@Reptiliatus I did not cool them in the winter time.. Back in the day there also wasn’t a lot/no of info on this species so I just did what I thought was best, as a 16 year old 😅 My one tip for you would be to give them a lot more sand. Mine had a very deep layer and they would always lay their eggs in the deepest part of sand👍🏻 I hope you will have some babies running around soon!
I think you should make merch with both species. Also, i recently bought Hermit Crab Sand scoopers on Amazon and they work great for the smaller feces. Have a great day :)
Thank you for the feedback/suggestion! Really appreciate it!
I own both species and they are just a cute fun little geckos to own
Wonderful! Yes they are just so great!
@@Reptiliatus they are amazing gecko species I really hope more people get into them
Just picked up two stenodactylus (old owner didn’t remember the exact species). I’m not sure on the exact species, but I’ve only seen sthenodactylus and petrii for sale, so that narrows it down. I personally think the ones I have are petrii. They’re a pair, and the female is super fat, I’m unsure if she’s gravid or obese or both, but we’ll see.
This video came out at the perfect time haha.
If I had to say, my fav steno would be sthenodactylus, but a specific color/pattern. Those light yellow and white ones, that’s my fav colour/pattern of s.stheno.
Petree eye, if that's the right way to spell it. Love their eyes too! Thanks for the educational content!
Petrii* but that’s okay! They are great! Thank you for watching and sharing your response! You are most welcome!
The newest ones (Petriei) are my favorite. I really love the eyes but also like how active they are and the coloring from one to another is awesome and they tolerate handling as well. I've had a crested gecko for a couple years now and was thinking about a veiled chameleon but I am seriously stuck between the little fellas and the chameleon. Now all I want to ask is when can I order a Petriei from you?
Tip: use a spare container and pour-sift entire medium in one easy shot.
I love these geckos and want to know what the differences of the stenodactylus stenodactylus and the stenodactylus petri
I've got a trio of S. sthenodactylus and hope that I can breed them in the future. I'm thinking of taking the mealworms that have pupated and laid eggs, and putting them out to pasture as a short-lived cleanup crew. Would be nice to have some help hunting down the tiny poop in the stone desert sand. Their 10 gallon tank has a tooooooon of rock and wood clutter so I can't just shift through it.
I like them both 💚...Which one has the most visual differences like colors and patterns?
Cute
Agreed! Thanks for watching!
Your welcome dude no problem
I am torn since I like both species! If I were going to do a breeding project of my own to increase the number of CBB animals in the hobby these would be on my short list with scorpion tail geckos and garter snakes!
Can you do a bioactive setup with these guys? If so, what animal would be similar or what would you recommend for substrate to make it bioactive? I can’t find any information on bioactive enclosures for these guys!
I absolutely adore the stenodactylus stenodactylus! Are you going to adopt out some of the babies? If so I would love to give a few a new home ❤
When I breed them I hope to offer some!
@@Reptiliatus wonderful! I can't wait!
Dayyan try using a small fishnet for sifting the sand. It'll get the smallest pools separated from the sand~
That’s a great idea! Thank you!
Another top notch video. My next pet on my list is a gecko. I've always wanted one. So, I really appreciated your awesome video about them. Yours are cuteness overload. How do I become a Patreon? I'd love to support you!
Thank you so much for your support and viewership! Geckos can make really fun and entertaining pets! Thank you for your consideration in becoming a channel patron! The link to the website for more info is down in my video description! 😊
@@Reptiliatus - Done! You deserve all the support. You're awesome!
In israel the field guides indicate they actually shift to diurnal activity in the winter times, but i imagine they do brumate in january when it gets under 20 c in the daytime
Fascinating! Thank you for sharing!
@@Reptiliatus thank you for producing high quality content and working with unique species :)
If they are like Tropiocolotes, they should be very active and great insect hunters. I can’t pick a favorite easily, but the Egyptian ones may be better just because they are larger and able to eat more things.
They r so cuteeee❤ omg
Very!
@@Reptiliatusdid not expect them to eat such a huge cricket 😮❤ good on them for being tiny but mighty
Haha they have big appetites!
@@Reptiliatus that's awesome I might need to get me a few
Where you did you get your stenos? Poor things were emaciated..
Also you should consider putting these guys in a glass display tank with a basking bulb, they love laying out under the light and soaking up the ‘sun’
They all came from a source that imported them wc. Thankfully with lots of care, rehydration and food they have all mostly bounced back and put on good weight!
Yes! They love sleeping and planking (like they want to do push-ups) under basking lights! My original group of S. sthenos are Im a tank with a basking light. The rest will be housed in terrariums soon.
out of every new caledonian gecko which do you prefer?
and your my favorite reptile youtuber
Hard to say but probably R. leachianus! Thank you so much! I’m touched!
I know it's not cat litter, but my brain cannot comprehend it and I cringe when you put your hand in there instinctually 😂 they're so cute! I'm definitely partial to the petrii
Haha sorry 😂. Rest assured I washed my hands right away and it’s all dry in there! Thanks for watching!
What do you think about adding Blue death beetles to the dune geckos and how many to each gecko?
I’ve been looking for Elegant and Egyptian geckos everywhere & can’t find them can u give info on where u get them from ?
Where did order these beautiful geckos from? Ive been trying to find them for awhile and I can't seem to find them anywhere.
1:58 no need to apologize about the grime! Any hobby or care if you dont get a little dirty your doing it wrong! When i paint or cook or bake or even take care of my dogs, I get little surprises all over my self. Its never a good day if i dont get some dirt some where.
I just got my first ones. I have 5 Petrii girls that I need boys for and I have S Stenodactylus but only boys 😭 I’ll be on the lookout to make some balanced groups
Oh boy! Best of lucky!
Do you have a care guide for them and where can I purchase a couple?
I just got 2 petrii today 😊
Awesome!
It's later NOW!!!!!
Sorry it was delayed! I made sure it still came out today! 😊
Were do you find these i been looking everywhere
Where do you get those bowls from?
Can i put succulents in with thee guys, and do they have to be spikeless?
I was wondering if you could tell me the name of the sand that you use in the video for the Geckos and the quantity of sand to use for a 40 gallon. Would much appreciate it.
Hey reptiliatus, i’m doing a school project about reptiles, could i ask you a few questions like an interview over comments?
if so,
Whats it like running a fairly large reptile channel?
what’s it like owning so many reptiles?
What do you have to say to any people considering getting a reptile and starting the hobby?
if you would like to answer this then thank you so much!!!!!
Nice French speaking, by the way...
I would get a group of stenodactylus petrii
Are you going to the next Toronto reptile expo?
Yes! I’ll be there tomorrow!
@@Reptiliatus 👍🏻 nice
As my Tropiocoletes tripolitanus are even smaler I cant sift the sand and i need to pick the feces with pincers. They have fater tails though compared to the body. I have only females an i am looking for males in Switzerland.
i have the same metal shelves but i have mine secure to the wall because i don't trust my carpet to not make it tip
Wise decision! Carpet can make things uneven.
@@Reptiliatus Yup sure does and answer question of day Medium to large size ver, because small food is hard to get and to me cost more.
how can you tell the difference between steno steno and petri
where did you buy them from?
Will you have some petrii for sale?
Je te regarde depuis la France, c'est drôle de te voir parler français :)
Hehe merci! Ma mère viens de la Suisse!
How long do they live?
I want a group of paetreai
What sand do you use in your enclosures?
It’s Exo Terra sand
How much do they cost
BARKING GECKO PLEASEEEE
😅👌🏼
Where did you find your Sand Geckos? I've been trying for months to find someone that has them, with no luck at all. Can you help out, please?
I ordered mine from a Canadian supplier called Port credit pets but they are all sold out unfortunately
