I do envy those who believe, but I simply don't after much thinking about it. I was bought up Catholic and checked out around 14, but I do have an extremely strong moral compass, stronger, unfortunately than a lot of religious people, which is why its great to hear Cheere talk about it.😊

Makes you wonder if Mimi saying she didn’t look on her relationship with JFK as a bad thing, is her justifying it in a way she can live with it. People lie to themselves all the time as a way to deal with trauma.

Hi Cheere, great read. Regarding the comparison of Mimi and Monica, there was such a difference in the societal culture of the 60s and the 90s. While I'm not judging Monica, she was more 'worldly' than Mimi at 19. That said, the power imbalance between the president of the US and an anonymous young girl is such that she will always be in an untenable position. Power corrupts in a lot of ways.

Mary Meyer was a fascinating person. JFK’s relationship with her was far more than sexual. Mary was married to a top CIA official. Her sister was married to the famous Ben Bradlee. I really took the end of your review so much into my heart. I felt the same as a nineteen yr old. Even though I was a child in my mind, I thought I knew so much about life. I forgot about Jesus, in spite of my Catholic education. Now at 62 yrs I now see the light of my savior. I wish I was taught early on in life about how much I was loved by Jesus. All I remember was fear, shame, and sadness. My life was similar to young women in this tragic story. Looking for validation and love everywhere. Now, my biggest struggle is forgiveness. It is pretty hard for me to forgive myself, never mind all the abusers. Thank You Cheere, your insight is very profound, and valuable to me, and most likely everyone. ❤

CheereD, you are absolutely correct about there being a huge difference between MonicaLew & Mimi!! Mimi was bombarded immediately & in my opinion taken advantage of. I do think that ML wasn’t remotely prepared for what the outcome would be- & the media storm that followed really did make me sympathetic to her. She didn’t deserve all that- Either way, there was a difference. 15:03

ML was betrayed in the worst way possible by Linda Tripp, who she thought was her good friend and confidant, spending hours on the phone with her. Then Ken Starr, the partisan Special Prosecutor raked her over the coals, making her testify in public deposition to every sexual detail. She is a survivor though, making the most of her experience by bearing witness and helping others to understand the private and public abuse she had to navigate and overcome.

In her own words, she described how, at 19, the events with JFK had traumatized her so much she had never gotten over it.
It was only recently that she felt she could finally tell her story , some 40 years after it happened. The book was published in 2012.
