New Fuji user. Love my X-H2 paired with the 90 mm lens for portraits. Also shooting with Canon R5 but much less now since having Fuji "in the house"! Thank you for this video. I refer back to it often. You do a really great job with all your videos.
Thanks for the information! I sometimes use "Shoot Without Card" for long video takes. It allows using an external recorder and a large ssd if you dont want to drop $$$ on a large cfast card. It's a problem for photo mode!
Great video Pete. Are all the settings that you made saved to C1? I'm a little unclear what settings are saved to C1 and which are not. Once setting are setup do you have to press a save button to save to a custom preset (C1, C2..) Thanks for all your effort.
Thanks! Yes you can def set this to a C setting - I have 1 with these settings, but then others with slightly different parameters - like one for studio shooting, one for outdoor daylight, etc.
Very good video. I just tried the af-c mode with tracking, looks really promising. I was going to give back button focus another try but really this AFC is so good now! Very helpful explanation👍
Superb explanation. Thank you very much. I am new to XH2s and I have never done a video rec. My question is how will I play back the video? Is it the normal way like with photos?. Thank again for your time. I have gladly subscribed.
Thanks for the video, great help. I set the touch screen to off for most things. Today I want to pull focus, let's say a near by fern then focus on a stream behind. I followed your settings. Went to touch screen, turned it to on, then to af symbol. I touch the screen, and nothing. Camera is the X-h2s.
Hi, I have recently got an XH2 and today went through your whole video. Thank you, this was helpful. I sometimes do food photography for my restaurant and I always wanted to be able to see my shoots in real time on a bigger monitor, to check focus. However I usually edit my Raw files on an ipad pro using lightroom mobile which does not support tethering. I see in this video you are using a small monitor showing you the camera screen in bigger format. I think that would be a great solution for what i need. I can not find it in your gear list in the description. May i ask please what it is? Thank you!
Thanks! I am using an Atmos ninja 5 which is a video recording monitor. However, I would suggest you try capture one pro for iPad. That is a great tethering solution.
Correct, but by default AF-S is set to not let the camera take a picture until focus is achieved. You can change this with that setting. In the old days, that was one of the main differences between AF-S and AF-C. Personally, I'm not sure why one would want to set it to release in single shot when focus ins't achieved.
You said that was your main reason to use AF-C: rather take the shot than not at all. I think your reasoning here is inconsistent but we come to the same conclusion: use AF-C
With the focus peaking I leave on red as well. On occasion, when in manual focus, I have switched to a Black and White JPEG which allowed the red to stand out even more. I also have the RAF file which stays in color for later editing.
Great video Pete, really well done and helpful, but it’s not working for me, I’m trying to set it just like you, but I can’t even find the word menu on my Olympus OM-1 film camera from 1978. I'm almost ready to pull the trigger on the X-T5 (upgrading from the 4), I'm waiting for trusted reviews. Be well and stay safe.
Did you try turning it off and on again? haha I always loved the OM-1, what a great camera! On the plus side, all of the AF settings I discuss are going to be similar in the X-T5. These are the settings I've used in my X-T4 although the joystick in that camera works better than in the X-H2, and hopefully the 5 is similar. Thanks for watching as always Enrique!
One issue, I never got to use any of my Fuji as usb card reader, now with my X-H2 I also can´t even if it is set to do so. The way I get files from CFxpress (as I don't own a cfxpress card reader yet) is to copy in camera files from card1 to card2. Can you help!!
Thanks, Robb. Up until the new Fuji cameras, I have used Canon as my main studio camera and Fuji as my backup on the field for things like candids and event photography. But, having picked up an XT5, I've used it at recent portrait sessions and couldn't be happier with it in terms of image quality and autofocus, which is vastly improved over the XT4. I'm considering making a complete switch to Fuji this year so we will see what happens. Thanks for watching!
I’m in the same boat. I am really thinking of selling Nikon Z and moving completely to Fuji. Thanks again for your response. You gained another subscriber.
I don't know best settings but I know worst: AF+MF setting is a "bug". When set camera will release immediately after press button fully independent of AF-s or AF-c with focus priority. Cost me 300 out of focus photos on a Party 🤣
Tracking in AF all mode is NOT necessary for face/eye tracking. You can use it in the other modes as well. While you for sure have tons more practical experience than most and a lot to teach, their are some incorrect statements in this video which probably make the audience understand less about the AF options they have.
I'm open to making mistakes at times and I learn a lot from the comments. These are the settings that have worked well for me, so people can choose to try them or not. I don't see where I said you must be in AF All mode for face/eye tracking but if I did that was an error.
As a xh2 beginner, this is very useful. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!

Thank you so much Beverly! isn't that funny? I have barely used my R5 since getting the XT5. Fuji really makes special cameras.
I just bought the X-H2 and the 90 f2 and the 33 1.4. Very excited to get out and start shooting!

I just got the X-H2, that's really help me a lot, step forward from great XT3 to X-H2 is amazing journey, thank you for your Sharing setting a lot. Thank you.
Glad it helped!
Same here! I have the XT3 and just got the XH2.
My X-H2 is on the way! I really appreciate you sharing this with us.
Enjoy!

Great video, thank you. I'll certainly be changing some of my settings. Do you mind me asking what lens you have on the Fuji in the video?
Thank you! The lens is the Fuji 35mm f/1.4

Sometimes one setting will override another. Off the top of my head I don’t have an answer but I will check it out.

Thank you for this!

Just bought my Fuji xh2s 10 days back. Being a nikon user, this was so confusing. Thanks man, I will try these setting this weekend
Glad it was helpful!
"Release priority" decides if the camera takes a photo even when its blurry, not AF S.

@@demonsaint1296 That's a great hack, thanks for sharing.
Its when you use focus back button @PeteCocoPhoto
Thanks for the video. Would you change the DR to Auto or still use with 100
My pleasure! I usually leave it on 100.
Pete Thanks!
Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it Sergey!
@@PeteCocoPhoto ➡It's better to watch your videos then read a manual with like 400 pages for the Fuji XH2 camera!!!

Pete. Awesome video. Do you actually use the Fujis for professional work?

Perfect video.

What lenses is that on your camera?
That's the original 35mm 1.4 Fuji lens. One of my faves
recommend adding chapters to your videos to enable viewers to skip to what's relevant to them. thanks!
