I want to contextualize that the meeting where Alma and Pedro met is the most important Colombian festival that took place since 1854 called Día de las Velitas. The Virgin Mary is prayed to with all the villages lit by candles. That is why the miraculous candle is so important and representative.
Yellow butterflies also have a very special value in Colombian culture, as they signify the presence of love. I think it represents grandfather Pedro. It is a reference to One Hundred Years of Solitude by Colombian Nobel Prize winner Gabriel García Márquez.
The community fleeing is a historical fact that has happened in Colombia since we are an independent republic. The symbolism of seeing the mountains protecting and enclosing the entire town (we are a mountainous country) is moving. Well, the violence in Colombia has been one of the reasons why the country was so closed to the world for so long.
The lyrics of the song are beautiful and its meaning can be extrapolated to many situations in life. The interpretation is incredible, it shows that Sebastián Yatra touched his heart. And the melody is beautiful, a mix of Colombian sounds like bambuco, cumbia and vallenato. Anyway, there are so many nice things around here. Thank you very much for reacting.

Well, Caño Cristales and Valle del Cocora they are not located in the same place, Valle del Cocora is located in Quindío, Quindío is a department of Colombia and Caño Cristales is located in the Macarena Mountain in Meta other department of Colombia

the fact that the whole story about alma is she griefing for her husband, and she didn't have anyone to talk cause was this matriarc for the family and the village is so strong, i was SOBBING when i saw the first time

Every reaction I watch, I wonder if someone's gonna point out the machetes, alluding to how Pedro was literally hacked to death in front of Alma. They had alot of guts to show that in the movie if you ask me.

The situation shown here is real and it's still happening, it's not just a thing of the past. There's still people forced to leave their homes to protect themselves and their families from violence... Colombia is the country in latinoamérica that has the highest rate of internal displacement. The message is even more powerful when you know that there's so many people who share Abuela Alma's story.
I love that this song feels like they took an existing classic Columbian folk song and placed it in the movie, rather than writing it as an original.
And whoever told you these songs didn't have any spoilers lied to you. But we're okay with that.
You forget the las part of the song when all the butterflies fly, ay mariposas..., And someone saw that part when the butterflies are flying away trough the gap between the mountains (that wasn't there before you have to see the movie) and Sebastian Yatra is singing that the butterflies have to find their own future, the family has to find their own future
This movie had me SOBBING from beginning to end, such a beautiful story
