About Pepa saying "He flood my brain": She has the power to control the weather, but that power is heavily influenced by her emotions, so when Bruno prophesized rain, he flood her brain with the thought of rain, which caused it to actually rain (bc that's her powet).
About Dolores's whispering: She probably whispers because her power is an extremely good sense of hearing.

    • @sarahsatyr7133
      @sarahsatyr7133 9 месяцев назад +6

But later he admits that he knew she was stressed and nervous and was trying to hold it back. He basically threw himself under the bus and gave her a reason to "let it go" and allow herself to feel she's allowed to show all of that and then the weather just followed. I love that he did that for her then allowed himself to take the blame.

  • @katarinakt9521
    @katarinakt9521 2 года назад +53

4:40 actually there is another meaning to it, because everybody in this family has a special gift/power and Pepa's (the ginger haired woman) power is that her emotions affect the weather around her and Bruno can tell the future, so when Bruno says it looks like rain, it literally floods Pepa's brain, because she starts to panic and causes the hurricane because of that.

I’m hoping someone else mentioned it as well, but Bruno’s name was originally going to be Oscar, but Lin asked for it to be changed to flow better and that’s why we have “Bruno-no-no-no-no” and why his name is Bruno in final production. The term 'madrigal' is an older English term for a type of song - multiple melodies are introduced, one at a time. Then they are all sung at the same time. It's a creative type of songwriting technique which was popular in England in the 16th and 17th centuries. (Late 1500s to the early 1600s).

People talk about Dolores whispering because of her super hearing but I’m more interested in how fast she sings. She delivered lines twice the speed of any other verse, now my theory is that she talks so fast because the conversation and rumors, etc can slip by immediately so she needs to talk fast to keep up with things, and it probably helps her not get lost in others conversations when she talks fast. Or maybe she’s just a natural fast talker. Now this is a bad analogy of mine, but I myself am surrounded my sounds and can barely focus on what inn writing, so I’ll need opinions to get my brain working instead of being clouded by the sounds around me

Just in case it helps. Everyone in Encanto related by blood has a super power except our protagonist.
    The first generation:
Pepa (woman who had her wedding day ruined): controls the weather with her emotions
    Bruno: can see the future
Julieta: can heal anyone with her cooking
2nd generation: (in relation to the protagonist)
Cousin Dolores (second singer): can hear everything
    Cousin Camilo: shapeshifter
    Sister Isabella: controls flowers
    Sister Louisa: super strength
    Mirabel: protagonist with no powers

@@po-tay-toe No, it was Isabella singing the "I'm fine" lines. It's a reference to a major plot point. All that stuff from Isabella's earlier lines (he told me that the life of my dreams would be promised and someday be mine / he told me that my power would grow like the grapes that thrive on the vine) is the only prophecy that hasn't come true yet. Her power doesn't start to grow until her personal song later on in the movie, 'What Else Can I Do'. So when she sings 'I'm fine', it's an early hint that, like Luisa, Isabella isn't actually fine. At this point in the movie, she's not living the life of her dreams and her power is stagnant (nothing but perfect flowers).

But he also uses his rep as a prophet to just cause trouble. Like the first part of the song about the wedding in the hurricane, all caused because he told his weather-controlling sister that it "looked like rain" on the most stressful day of her life. Classic self-fulfilling prophesy, that one.

The video "How 'we don't talk about Bruno' works and why it's amazing" goes into how the song is not only musically great, but is perfectly integrated with the movie's symbolism, themes, and storytelling as a whole.
The Madrigals are singing a madrigal about the missing part of the Madrigals.

an extra layer to 4:25 is that her emotions control the weather so her brain flooding caused the hurricane

Fun Fact: Bruno's name was originally to be Oscar! But Lin-Manuel Miranda requested a name change specifically so he could do "Bruno-no-no" !

I just love how the backgrounds and stuff happens during the songs in this movie and by the end of the song no one talks about what happened. Except the song Isabela sang when she discovered that she isn’t limited to just flowers but other kinds of plants as well

It’s Lin Manuel Miranda Knox. He did Moana, Hamilton and In the Heights. That’s why it’s so good.

The entire soundtrack is fire, but you should really react to "The Family Madrigal" to get a sense of the world and the family dynamic. Also, while this song is an earworm, I think "Surface Pressure" is better for a number of reasons.

Convergence of characters in a song is a staple in most and in my opinion usually one of the best songs in a sing through musical. Rent, Hamilton, and The Secret Garden all come to mind. This will be another that is top of mind when I think of examples of songs in the round. I just watched the movie this weekend with my kid and I was floored. So good!

Might as well go down the Rabbit hole that is Lin Manuel Miranda’s lyricism abilities from Encanto, Hamilton, In the Heights and even Moana. There is a reason the guy has so many awards for his writing abilities. Won’t be surprised if he wins the Oscar this year and completes the rare PEGOT (with a McArthur genius grant as well).

I really enjoy your reactions and how you go deep and deep in the meanings of the lyrics.
One thing that I want to talk about is that apart of the images that references the lyrics, I also admired the way how Disney involved all the Colombian culture in the movie, I am Colombian and I very gratefull in how Disney show up all my Colombian landscape, nature, animals and more; but the thing that really amazed me is the clever way to talk about the history and through violence a lot of Colombian people had to pass. I am just really amazed with the effort that Disney put in this movie.
I hope more people be interested in visit Colombia and know more about the culture and the people and not only the negative things.
If one of you guys hace the oportunity to meet or talk with a Colombian person you are going to understand more details behind the characters personalities that represent s lot of situations of a Colombian common lifes.

If you listen closely at the end of the song you can hear Dolores singing “I’m fine I’m fine I’m fine” and “I’ll be Fine” which was a small call back to Angelica and Satisfied from Hamilton.
The man Dolores is in love with is in love with Isabella. Similarly how in Hamilton, Alexander loved Eliza and Angelica loved Alexander too.
The attention to detail! The connections! Lin Manuel definitely did amazing with the songs for Encanto. Definitely my new favorite Disney soundtrack.

Bruno, in all his" evil disney-green" and red herring song is set up so well as the mysterious uncle that went evil and then vanished.......and in reality he is such a loving sad cinnamon bun. Maribel's unseen gift is sewing relationships back together. She dusted the magic off on herself. "The miracle is you".

    Long comment incoming!!
Encanto revolves around a family with magical powers. Bruno has the gift to tell prophesies and such. The woman telling the story of her wedding is Pepa and she has the power to control the weather with her emotions, so when Bruno told her it "looked like rain" she got stressed and the stress "flooded her brain" until her powers created a hurricane.
The next verse with the whispered sort of rap was by Dolores and she has super hearing. She clearly states that she can hear Bruno "muttering and mumbling" and later on she says "It's like I can hear him now." You'll notice that in her part, everything kinda goes quieter and you can hear the whoosh of clothing, and movements as though we, as the viewer, were getting a glimpse of her powers.
After Dolores was Camilo and he's a shapeshifter. He was really young when Bruno was around so he shapeshifted into what he probably heard from what others described Bruno to be.
You had a point about the villagers and how things like the dead goldfish, growing a gut, and losing hair are all natural things that occur with time, but since Bruno told them it would happen, they assumed he was the cause.
Isabela sings the bridge and she has the power to grow flowers. She's seen as the "perfect" child in the family. It's why you'll notice that even her prophecy was pretty positive as opposed to the others. Isabela is meant to marry Mariano, but Dolores (her cousin) has feelings for him refering to her prophecy "He told me that the man of my dreams will be just out of reach, betrothed to another."
At the end, when all the voices come together to say their lines, the main character Mirabel puts together her prophecy and her family's voices sing in her head and basically say that prophecies from Bruno can only mean trouble.

Fun point: The whole song is fantastic, the production. The lyrics, the chacha rythm and combination of voices like in a Madrigal from the 15th century.. I'm not surprised why everybody loves it. This song was Perfectly done.
