Hey, I'm new to your channel, but after this you should definitely check out the Sharpe Family Singers cover that they recently did of this song. It's just as great as the original.
Lin-Manuel Miranda said in an interview that We Don't Talk About Bruno is about a very specific thing, which is that every family has that thing they don't talk about... except that's all they talk about. XD
Madrigals are composed to be sung. Sometimes they were instruments thrown in (continuo). Choral compositions used imitations and canons and quodlibets. These techniques is what you hear in this song
Fun fact: Bruno’s name was originally Oscar for pretty long into developing the movie, his name was changed to Bruno just for the “Bruno no no no” melody
@@SerenityM16 By coincidence, this song would also be “We don't talk about Oscar”... Because Disney decided that the song nominated for the Oscars would be “Dos Oruguitas” and not this one.
The fact that he refers to the wedding as "a joyous day" warms my heart. My parents' wedding had a lot of things go wrong but they both talk about it fondly. True love is like that.
The first two characters (Pepa and Felix) are voiced by Carolina Gaitán and Mauro Castillo. Both of them are Colombians. She is mostly a pop singer, she won the Colombian version of Popstars. Mauro is a salsa singer, and has done some acting too. He has a very versatile voice, he can sing even opera. As a Colombian, I feel very proud that the world is loving this song and movie, and that Carolina y Mauro are showing their talent to the world.
As a straight male who's from rural canada (never seen a Columbian irl but you guys seem absolutely fantastic to hangout with) but Mauro can absolutely get it, that soft deep signing, damn.
@@TheCanadianGuy56 thank you so much! Just a little correction: it's Colombian, not Columbian. It's a very common misspelling, so don't worry! And yes, Mauro is a fantastic singer!
There's a really small but great lyrical detail at the start that I love. Pepa sings "It was my wedding day", and Felix comes in with "it was *our* wedding day". To me that shows that Pepa has spent so long having to focus on and regulate her own emotions (so as not to create bad weather) that she's forgotten to consider that he was there too, and has his own perspective on it.
It really reflects about the whole pressure on everyone in the family has, that they have to use their gifts perfectly to help others and you can’t make errors.
The ending of this song is EVERYTHING! I love the layers. It's perfect for the plot as it relates to Bruno, chaotic and trying to sort out the truth, trying to put the pieces to the puzzles together and decipher everything. It's just awesome. I also love Adassa's part as well. So smooth! I also really like how she starts off so soft and then when she finishes her part Camilo jumps in so strong. Just a great tune.
I am from México and I really enjoy seeing Latin America represented. I didn't know that they speak a little bit of Spanish in the USA version. I really really love it. Btw, I love your videos.
They did not change "Abeula" in the French version, either. I am going to watch the movie (in French) soon, and I hope they kept some of the Spanish in it, too.
Adassa’s (Dolores) voice is just 😍. She has these adorable subtle voice breaks she blends so seamlessly , I’m obsessed!. If they do a good quality sequel I’d hope they give her more screen time, so we can hear more of her voice!
forget a sequel: I want a SERIES! After seeing how damn good a job they did with Tangled: the Series, Encanto deserves the same. There is SO much lore to explore and expand upon that a series can cover that a sequel movie just can't.
Miranda is very talented but I kind of hate that an entire generation thinks he invented something he picked up from his mentor Jonathan Larson (who picked it up from his mentor Stephen Sondheim, who picked it up from his mentor Oscar Hammerstein, and so on and so forth back to Middle Ages madrigals).

This is such a Lin song. And yeah, that's a compliment :) I think it's the best ensemble number he's written, which is saying something because it's up against the likes of Non Stop, In The Heights, 96,000 and so on. Isabela telling Mirabel not to say a word was because she is aware that Bruno pretty much only tells people what they don’t want to hear and for her that meant what was perceived by her family as the “life of her dreams”. If her family found out about that prophecy for her they would start to catch on that she wasn’t on board with the plan and she might be in trouble with Abuela for not agreeing with the idea of perfection set out for her
Nah. She just wanted Mirabel to stfu during the dinner because she's constantly "ruining her life". It wasn't about Bruno at all. She just wanted her annoying little sister to not mess shit up for her, FOR ONCE. Lmao
It’s SUCH clever writing that as Maribel watches Luisa’s door flicker, Felix is purposefully in the background of the shot singing “thunder” (so important that the subtitles chose to represent his lyrics at that moment), when during the lead-in, Maribel asked him about Bruno’s prophecies and he responded with thunder noises, as well as recalling the “THUNDER” during his and Pepa’s verse, which harkened the consequences of Bruno’s “prophesy” that day. He’s warning and reminding her to get on with understanding her prophesy, all while beautifully blended into the rest of the family’s lyrics, as to not call too much attention from the family. Incredible. I love this sort of stuff.
I also love how every character's voice matches their personality and character in the movie when telling a story this part is also very important and often something that is forgotten I also loved that i could tell what the songs were trying to deliver just by really feeling it in their voices
I love Felix and Pepa's relationship in this movie, too. Felix has to be a pretty special guy to be able to handle a high-strung lady like Pepa. Especially when her moods can affect the weather. 😁

They have such a strong, healthy relationship that bounces off of each other and it really shows.
Of all the many Encanto reactions I've watched, yours is by far my favorite! I love how expressive and excited you get. I'd watch you react a second time XD Thanks for making this
I just love how all the sounds (footsteps, swish of skirts, Mirabel throwing the shards of vision on her desk, etc.) are in perfect sync with the beat and it just slaps hard, most notably in Dolores' verse
The end of the song where everyone repeats their verses is something LMM has done in Heights and Hamilton. In Heights see the last two minutes of 96,000! My favorite part. ❤️
I just realized that from the beginning, Mirabel is subconsciously and cautiously vibing with the song while listening, which starts with her hesitant shoulder bobs during Pepa's wedding story 😂
There's a part in the no no nos when they are going thru the tunnel and I feel like Delores range got missed when she sang her no and it was sooo gooodddd
You so need to react to Isabella's solo song What Else Can I Do because it's got a more pop punk feel to it I think maybe more emphasis on the pop than punk but there's electric guitars which is a bonus xxx
There is this one part in the last chorus where all of them are singing. Pepa sings „We were getting ready…“ and on ready the note sounds so sad to me. I don’t know if it’s because of a harmony with Isabella, but it just sounds so interesting to me.
The part you like where everyone was singing different parts of the songs at same time creating a beautiful, chaotic, colorful crescendo is called a "madrigal". And they are a beautiful, chaptic, colorful family called, you guessed it, The Madrigals.
I said it in another post, but I love how Mirabel (Stephanie Beatriz) pronounces "Bruno", specially in the "...ehm, Bruno... yeah, about that Bruno..."
Please watch this movie! It's so so good, there's so many good themes and interactions. It's a perfect family movie too especially if there are siblings in the house (but as an only child myself I still found it VERY impactful).
Just in case you don't know: VoicePlay voiceplayed We Don't Talk About Bruno couple of days ago (one reactor also mentioned them doing Surface Pressure in "minis" but haven't found it so far, so it could be in their patreon)
I noticed that you didn't notice 2 parts in this song like Deloris voice when she sings right before the song goes to "he told me my fish will die the next day" or how they switched characters when Mirabel was single and the people were walking around her the switched from the lady with the fish standing behind Isabella to Delores standing behind Isabella
If you haven't seen them yet, with the anlysis that you do, and the interest in the structure of these songs, you might really enjoy Howard Ho's break downs. He talks a lot about what is happening with the song structures, and just how creative the arrangements, lyrics and dynamics are to the plot, characters and elements of the story. Like what happens here during the multipart while Meribel is trying to put together the pieces just blew my mind when I saw how the song structure describes how certain characters fit into how things come about. Also the fun of them being named Madrigal and madrigal being a form of music.
Love this song ! You should also watch the french version, they did it live at the premier of the film at Grand Rex (paris). The quality of the filming isn't great because it's from the crowd, but they nailed the end together it's so satisfying !
I just got through with watching Encanto tonight. It is an amazing movie. It is a must-watch. And it’s worth watching the behind-the-scenes videos for “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” where a group of dancers performed the choreography for the song, to help Disney’s animators.
You should consider reacting to American idol auditions. I’ve seen a few from this year and some of the vocals are unbelievable. Would also love to see reactions to broadway voices 😍
Best voice coach reaction yet! I don't know a ton about singing other than high school choir and singing on praise team for a few years, but I was fascinated with the singing in this movie for all of the reasons you mentioned. I just couldn't put it into words like you've done here. I even got excited about all the same parts that you did in your other Encanto song reactions too! 😄😊
At the end when they're all singing going in a circle you can hear camilo's voice go higher when he says he see' s your dreams and feasts on your screams.
During the final scene when they're dancing around Mirabel both Isabella and Dolores are the only ones to add a new lyric "I'm fine" and they both repeat it multiple times
I have joined your channel only for the Encanto reaction videos lol I am loving how you describe all of the voices and the technical part. I cannot wait for you to react to "What else can I do?" From Encanto. About this song, I really love how the performer did all of the voice and style changes to adapt to the different moments in the song, I think she is a brilliant artist who portrayed the character to perfection.
And to think that the character of Bruno was actually supposed to be named Oscar but Lin of course wanted to make it sound better with the “Bruno no no no” so he changed it 💚💚
I think once you hear maribel speak you will understand why that nasal sound is in the singing voice. It’s very much an acting choice. I think it’s awesome to have an alto as a main character for once! As an alto I’m not very well represented so I love that I can belt her songs without breaking up!!! 😍
I swear I was keeping away from watching anything from this movie so that I can watch it in peace after my project deadline.......... But I heard a snippet of this song TODAY in RUclips and now I'm obsessed. I have learned the lyrics and now I'm just watching reaction videos because it really is that good. I would say it's like frozen....... But I got sick of that song after few repeats....... But this... I dont think I could get sick of this song...... So I'm in trouble because instead of finishing my projects as planned I'm busy thinking about this song.
I am a bit late to this but Isabela (the flower girl) when she is singing her part again the ending changes to 'i'm fine' and when they are dancing around the table you can hear her sing 'i'm fine'
I REALLY want to hear more of the sound of the superhearing lady and the Surface Pressure parts. They're just very specific that I haven't really heard that much of. Love all the song, it's just those specific ones that I really don't hear enough of.
This is Blackout from in the heights, this is Non-stop from Hamilton... This is what Lin excells at that nobody else can do the same way and I love it every time.

You so need to react to Isabella's solo song What Else Can I Do because it's got a more pop punk feel to it I think maybe more emphasis on the pop than punk but there's electric guitars which is a bonus xxx
Pppp is the most important part of your own life ✨🙌👌❤😌👏✨🙌Pppp fffo is a good place for a family
The singer for Isabella/ flower girl/ long black hair is from Jane the Virgin if you’ve ever seen that. I love her voice
I said it in another post, but I love how Mirabel (Stephanie Beatriz) pronounces "Bruno", specially in the "...ehm, Bruno... yeah, about that Bruno..."
i love Dolores' voice too! my favorite female character from the movie!
🙄💭💭💭💭💭😨🙇🙇🙇🙇🙇
@@4usprosperity what?
I just watched the movie for these videos and I am READY
I love watching these bc I've listen to this song hundreds of times and have never noticed Dolores singing that low note at 3:15😭
You need to see this. Its one of Disney's best movies they've come up with lately.
You full on sounded like Britney when doing Mirabels voice and I looooooved it.
Let's not forget that Mirabel is unconsciously dancing in like... every sound. It's hilarious. That was a conscious animation choice and I love it.
All singers have amazing voices.
His name was originally Oscar, but they chose Bruno because of the no-no-no rhyming scheme for this song in particular
Please watch this movie! It's so so good, there's so many good themes and interactions. It's a perfect family movie too especially if there are siblings in the house (but as an only child myself I still found it VERY impactful).
I have a watch party for it on my patreon!
3:24 it's deliberately low and quiet. This character has super hearing so high notes and loud noises will actually hurt her ears.
2.27 "sorry baby do go on' i love how he sings that
Just in case you don't know: VoicePlay voiceplayed We Don't Talk About Bruno couple of days ago (one reactor also mentioned them doing Surface Pressure in "minis" but haven't found it so far, so it could be in their patreon)
Their last name is Mardrigal which is a musical term for a bunch of parts put together in harmony and I like how they showed that in this song
I love the Song i Listen to it 24/7😂💕
I really love the fact that every song in this movie have panning(voice) on it.. really blew me away.
Classic Lin-Manuel Miranda genius! It gives me the urge to watch In the Heights again soon!
delores at the end has an extra part when you hear “i’m fine i’m fine” she says more you should check the lyrics😩
I'm just watching this now, and Stephanie Beatriz is incredible. Her voice can do so many things.
Love this song !
You should also watch the french version, they did it live at the premier of the film at Grand Rex (paris). The quality of the filming isn't great because it's from the crowd, but they nailed the end together it's so satisfying !
Pepa and Felix have been called the Gomez and Morticia of the movie for good reason ❤️ Felix is completely wholesome and dedicated to Pepa ❤️
I love that a love of singers participate both in the english and spanish version. No hablamos de Bruno no no no no. 😍
Pepa and Felix are the definition of relationship goals💪
I like your video. Did you know that Annapantsu does this whole song by her self it was so good.
Fun fact: Bruno’s name was originally Oscar but they changed it to Bruno to fit the song
At the end when they're all singing going in a circle you can hear camilo's voice go higher when he says he see' s your dreams and feasts on your screams.
Need a Encanto watch party
Coming this Saturday!
During the final scene when they're dancing around Mirabel both Isabella and Dolores are the only ones to add a new lyric "I'm fine" and they both repeat it multiple times
I have joined your channel only for the Encanto reaction videos lol
I am loving how you describe all of the voices and the technical part.

You should react to the one where this song is sung in 21 different languages!
Interestingly only Isabella has a part that is in a major key. It shows how only her “prophecy” was positive compared to the others in the song
love the rap part in whisper tone
I can't wait till you react to dos oruguitas it makes me cry everytime i watch it T-T
In the second stage (doloreses part) in the background on the second floor bruno is walking and also grooving
This was teriffic. Loved it. Love the music.
This is Blackout from in the heights, this is Non-stop from Hamilton... This is what Lin excells at that nobody else can do the same way and I love it every time.
When she makes the puzzle in the song I heard a voice saying he's here
I love your videos so much songs from a suitcase keep up the good work woman
