I ended up keeping the AW3821DW. the colors really stood out on the screen compared to the LG. I was coming from using a lot of apple retina monitors so this was the best wide screen in terms of that high quality of what I was looking for. With a high refresh rate
@@TeamResearchGroup Those two monitors are actually the same panel... just different branding. You have most likely failed to calibrate the colors for LG correctly and the Dell calibration out of box might have been better. Its the same HDR600, 10 bit color colors, 144hz.
1:40 - the video is not weird from the monitor, it is the video itself that was created with a black bar top and bottom - it is part of the graphics inside the video - the video is more square than it appears to be - thus it will not crop off these bars as it is supposed to be in the video - it is a poor way to implement black bars though - the video should be uploaded and shown in the wide low format - not sure if that is possible on youtube yet though... that would anyway solve the problem with the black bars :)
It is possible to do this on youtube. The person who uploaded the video decided to add in the top and bottom black bars. Maybe because most social medias only accept 16:9, so the record label that created the video didn't want to have to make multiple different versions? Who knows...

As of 12/12/2022 - the price has dropped for Christmas sale until 12/18/22 to $999.99 and has 90-day return policy should you decide that it's not for you or something unfortunate happens to it.

I noticed this monitor has "g-sync combability" meaning it doesn't have a g-sync module, but has most of the capiblitties. What has been your experience gaming with it? Does it work well?
I got this monitor last week and confirm it g-sync works GREAT! I upgraded to this from an msi 32” 1440p Va panel whose free sync was unusable because under 30fps and load screens/maps would cause it to lose signal and go black for a moment. It had free sync and every time I paused the game in hitman or control or the nvidia pendulum app I’d get black screens. Not with this LG ultra wide though! Works exactly as it should.
I like the monitor. I use it since last year. Contrast is a little low, highest value around 200cd. HDR is not very usefull. Size for work like you have shown perfect gaming performance very goog but no need to buy a 24:10 monitor for gaming. Would i buy it again? I think so, high price but I get a good value for it.
if you want the least amount of input latency and the best non-tearing experience the alienware is def better due to the dedicated hardware you get with gsync ultimate
I don't get it. According to LG's website, this monitor has a video-sync-modus for the lights at the back. No one talks about that or they even, like in this video, tell people that the lights don't react to anything on the screen. Why is LG promoting this video-sync-modus then? Are they lying or did the reviewer not bother to search for it? I don't care about rgb lighting in my computer, mouse and monitor. I do, however, am a huge Ambilight fan. If I turn it off on my tv I am really missing something. So this feature on a monitor would be definitely something that would play a role in deciding which one to buy. I am not willing to stick strips on a monitor myself and do all kinds of crazy stuff to mimic it. I am wondering for years now why Philips puts this on almost all their televisions and makes light bars and software to incorporate their hue lights into gaming, but not creating a gaming monitor with ambilight build into it. If the screen itself is good, I think they will have a huge hit on their hands for gamers.
“Research incomplete”., This monitor does NOT have G-Sync Pro. It is only “G-sync compatible”. That is a major change from the 38GL model that precedes the one you reviewed.
@@WiredInside I had the same question, and ended up going without the GSYNC module. A lot of folks apparently complained about the fan on that module going bad and making noise. I use my monitors for years, years, years, and so I didn’t want a fan. Plus, as you say, the slightly better HDR (but not much better - it just adds useless 8 zone local dimming, which is a joke, but is required for VESA to allow using the “HDR600” label). And the fact that the newer models don’t have that G-Sync module may mean that LG has decided it was more trouble that it is worth...
The MicroCenter near me carries the GL version, but I chose to wait for over two months for the GN version to restock at Costco to buy. The GN version is a better monitor and the G-Sync capability is indistinguishable in quality from the module and you get HD600 instead of HD400. I am very happy I waited for the GN.
So I have two GTX 1070 running SLI. When I ran HDR it was weird. The games would turn super bright contrast. I would alt+tab. to get out. When I would alt+tab it would take a good 20 seconds to go to desktop another 20 seconds to go back in game. I ended up not really using HDR. Not sure because of my video cards or what it was. It causing a ton of errors.

It uses fresync module I think as it's been known for a while that they are working together.. Don't quote me on this though!
Yes both worked well so far with G-sync. I am not sure the difference though when people talk about the module vs compatible.

You can dl the LG sw and it will alow you to have LED sync with picture...fyi

Download and use software from LG and you can use it. Kinda sad that someone makes a review and fails to inform you of that...
