The best part about the calling out Squidmar joke is that I literally just watched the collab video where Guy, Emil and Trent pick their favourite models. Like literally the video before this one.
Seriously, I know everyone has their preferences but I always thought it mad he didn't use one. Was honestly a total game changer for me when I came back to the hobby recently, makes handling paints, especially mixing colours SOOO much easier.
According to some guy told me the reason a lot of things look like they did back in the day is that the guy in charge of photography or the white dwarf editor was unaware he was colourblind so he sent them back for not being vibrant enough until the wood was bright red etc
I really treasure these retro videos. For some reason they have been a reliable source of comfort during really distressing times. For some reason the music and the colors seems to give “early 2000s dvd menu playing to a sleeping room” vibes. Please keep these coming

You have a superb talent for painting miniatures...and the ability to record at the same time is very special indeed. Thank you for sharing your secrets and special spells.
Goblin Green is an incredible painter. Love his stuff, it really hits in the nostalgia. You did well here Guy. And your sergeant also looks like Harvey Keitel.
Guy was one of my go-to RUclips minipainters. Can't repay him enough. I learned a lot from his speedpainting videos. Fast forward 2 years. I'm teaching/helping people with painting minis. Now he's my go to RUclipsr on how to record superbe videos.
I apreciated the way you gave us an idea of how many hours ot took to paint this model. I think a time total estimate for projects in future videos would be fun/ encouraging for the painters at home.
As someone who started this hobby in the late 90's this was a real nostalgia trip. I still have a bunch of old skool miniatures somewhere including a Predator tank, Land speeder, Jump squad, Bike Squad, Tech marine and Marneus Calgar.
"It's like seeing a thousand flavors of ice cream and choosing vanilla." Honestly, vanilla-flavored ice cream is the best thing to compare Ultramarines to. I mean, Vanilla's the basic flavor of ice cream, but it's also the one that's for everyone. It's the easiest one to like and is most people's first flavor. It works well with most of the stuff you can add to ice cream and still be good, unlike a lot of flavors. You can't put hot fudge on orange swirl and expect it to work.
This really takes me down memory lane, I remember painting these little guys, long, long ago, back when I using Testors enamel paint. xD I think mine only had three colors on them, and were super gloopy, but I wouldn't still be painting today if it weren't for these little marines.
This is Warhammer for me. i love the good old days of Warhammer. Please more of Vintage Painting, Heroquest would be great. Thank you for your videos and greetings from Germany!

This was amazing. The miniature looks amazing. Looking forward to the next video. Keep up the good work. 👍👍
I would love to see you take on more challenges like this. But in different styles. Like getting the guys from cult of paint, or richard gray over to do some more volumetric style paiting. Anyway. Cheers, this one turned out amazing!
The overwhelming attention to detail this model received is somehow both soothing and aggravating my OCD… Jokes aside, it’s a masterpiece! Cheers from the States.
fair play Guy. nicely done. you really made it much harder with the bland sculpt. hope you revisit this level of painting on something more textured and visually complex soon
Ehrmagerd, this is my favorite series on RUclips (I have watched the Space Wolves, Dark Angels, and Terminator videos over and over again). Keep up the great work, your videos are awesome - and the background music (that you made yourself if I remember correctly) is so inspiring and imaginative!
Fantastic work guy. You're a real inspiration and I tried my first zenithal prime today. it's encouraging to know that even someone of your skill level is still learning things about painting.
Guy, when doing the decals, just put them on. Don't worry about wrinkles or anything. Once it's relatively dry, take a very wet brush full of Microsol and glob it on the decals. After 2 or two of those, the decal will mold perfectly to the pauldrons. You don't even have to split the U for the ultramarines logo.
This goes out to all of us but seeing and focusing in on your own mistakes is not a bad thing. This helps you see what you can improve on. Keep it up Guy as these videos are so good! 👌
Incredible work! I love the art but I too wouldn’t enjoy that long painting an ultramarine… would love to see similar on one of the Orks from the same set 😇
I wouldn’t really think of the Ultramarines as the “vanilla” chapter, sure, they’re the poster boys but they have their qualities, I love their lore of trying to sorta be the role models to the other chapters, and how their strict adherence to the Codex Astartes sometimes screws them up. To me it’s a really interesting idea. And also the space roman vibe is absolutely sick, I think they are a unique chapter despite their status as the sort of “template” for other Astartes chapters, but that’s just my two cents.
I love these retro painting videos! As much as I can appreciate the skill that goes into painting grimdark models, the vibrancy and pop of details of the retro style just appeals so much more to me. Guy, once you're done with the titan... maybe you could start on another one, and retro paint it? 😀
