Mammoth! I love seeing scratch built models so much, I think it tickles the same parts of my brain that 3D modelling does, which is the field I'm coming from. Also recycling old toys is a definite good deed in my book.
I do think the mammoth could use more... stuff? Gribbly bits? It's looking a little naked next to the new sculpts, but I definitely understand considering how long and hard you clearly worked on this video. With the time constraints and it being done by just you and Hatty, all of it is truly astounding work, very impressive.

    • @Bluecho4
      @Bluecho4 2 месяца назад +1

Gonna be honest, while the other sculpts were clearly the product of lots of hard work and creative vision, I have to give the "favorite Squiggoth" award to Manny the Mammoth. Both as a testament to Manny's long-suffering career as a toy, and as proof that you can scratch build great things out of cheap materials. (Most Warhammer collectors have a surplus of sprues, for example).

The gargantuan squiggoth is my obsession! I couldnt afford the money to buy the real thing, so i made my own out of sturdy cardboard tubes for a skeleton, glue heavy paper clay, tissue paper, and some oven bake clay for his mouth bits for the details. Despite my researcg, mine ended up quite a bit bigger than a real one. I plan to make more squiggoths, including a Khorne corrupted red one with an absurd amount of teeth and spikes. This is actually the use case super glue was invented for - closing bullets wounds on the battle field. However, super glue for the consumer market is typically not certified safe for this use. They have various ingredients and additives that you may not want in your blood if you have a reasonable alternative.

I mostly agree, though I'm not sure you can say quality of the products went down. The resin stuff has always been a more serious project and that hasn't changed but the more 'default' models from GW now are really really good quality in fit and finish it seems, if strange in how they are broken up, the paints still seem to be good etc. The price is not so defensible compared to the others, but the quality of GW stuff after flirting with finecast has probably gone up overall I'd suggest.

One minor note, 28mm Heroic Scale is actually closer to 1:56, rather than 1:35- regular human 40k models like Guardsmen are roughly half the size of 1:35 miniatures. I think there’s a lot of confusion about it because 40k vehicles in particular are *huge-* even a Leman Russ dwarfs some real super-heavy tanks, so when you put 40k vehicles next to historical or modern 1:56 ones it looks like they’re out of scale.

That clear gorilla epoxy is great for gems and such - paint the surface underneath a solid color, and toss a blob of the epoxy over it, and it looks great once it's cured.

As I was watching the sponsored portion of the video I picked up on the music you used for that. Nice choice Night 'Awk.

I remember back as a teenager in the early 2000s, I ordered an Epic scale gargantuan squiggoth for my Orks and Goblins army, to use as a mount for a leader!

I remember back in the day (early 2000s, '01/'02 maybe?) seeing converted Squiggoths in White Dwarf made out of old dinosaur toys. Can't imagine GW letting that in these days.

Bravo Guy, you really knocked it out of the park with this project! Amazing work on these squiggoths and proxies
Also, any chance the start collecting tournament will continue soon? I'd love to see some new matches lol
Keep up the quality work as always, cheers!
P.S. bringing the puppy around is never a bad idea.

Silhouette of the custom squiggoth made me think you went with the old Chaos Mammoth for some reason for the project.

On it's own, I actually preferred the mammoth, but I think the others would look better in an army. I could see myself using the mammoth for a variety of games and not just orks. Gorgeous work as always and super enjoyable.

Loves me some Orky content in a video and this is the biggest that can be done! I REALLY want a squiggoth but I don't know if I could ever justify it. I'd have nowhere to safely store it, it would gather dust and I can't be sure I'd ever get around to painting it. 😭
Still, excellent job! Might try for that gnawzilla from Kromlech though.

I love how this video, you can see Guy combining a bunch of skills from previous videos together for this big project. If you're new to the channel and this looks intimidating, you should go back and watch things like the Scrap titan, Warlord titan, golden demon entry and stuff for context.

@MidwinterMinis Probably! I've watched most of them at least twice because they're good background noise for painting minis or inking comics! 😂
