Ok, there are multiple ways to do it the best I think is use something called "Puppet Pins" I'll try to make a Tutorial about it thanks for your comment.

I have a complicated rig where the head has a cap on. I tried masking the cap when he turns the head to the sides and it worked. But when you select all the layers and mask to create the joystick it doesn't work? Is there a way to do this correctly? Thanks

Does this work with image files or just vector shapes?
It works with every after effects file types
only vector file or every object need to be separate as png.
If you are using image files you can use Switch Template features.
