Seeing the pain her mother's going through really brings home how much my 25+ years on heroin must of been for my dad, he stuck by me the whole time even though a 5 year prison sentence he didn't miss one visit.
He was a single parent and went above and beyond more than he ever should have everyone told him that the only way was the tough love way but he never did, he would always say blood is thicker than water, he passed away 2 years ago now and he never got to see me get clean and the guilt and pain I now feel is crippling and if there was a way i could show someone that pain before they actually had to go through it then at least there would be one positive out of all the negativity. The crazy thing is that there isn't a drug strong enough to mask the pain and guilt i feel it's like his death stopped me from being able to get high and I'm now a year clean but still miserable.

My first drug was alcohol. After that, marijuana, meth, then cocaine. I've been clean and sober 29 years. I stopped before I started losing everything. My 3 sons and I lived in a women's shelter. Had I not stopped then, I would have lost my boys. I also stopped associating and dating anyone using drugs. Cocaine was my drug of choice. I did snort heroin once, I didn't care for it. My kids saved my life. My youngest son, who was a 6 month old baby when I quit, is a heroin addict. He's 30 and in prison for 3rd time. I totally relate to this mom. I am this mom. His addiction has put a toll on my health. I have crohn's disease, stress causes flares. He had been living with me off and on his adult life. I've made it clear that he can't live with me when he gets out. I can't handle being around his drug addiction. He is very schizophrenic when he uses meth, to use less heroin. He's done rehab a bunch. He's tried suboxone too. I sure hope this stint in prison will help him stay clean this time, when he gets out.

As a recovering addict, I can tell you that the mother is not helping. I hope the end of the episode she learns from this because enabling is going to just feed her addiction. It was not until my mother died, my father took me in and gave me weekly urines. But before that I was on the streets and begged and begged to stay anywhere, no luck. I did not want to get clean. Until I lost EVERYTHING, including my sanity, I couldn't get clean. I moved in with my father who is in recovery, and at first it helped. Until he started stealing my Suboxone. I then relapsed because my father enabled me. I moved out and started using again. It was not until I was ready to kill myself that I dragged myself to get help. By myself. No one to help me. Tough love is the only way. I'm speaking from experience.

@@AnnaInWonderTube because being clean means facing the problems that led to the addiction in the first place. It means staring at your trauma head on, instead of numbing it. For those who started because of trauma like being SA'd, abused etc, it's mental anguish that the drugs take away.
For those who got hooked after being in car accidents, or other bodily harms, it's not wanting to deal with not only the withdrawl symptoms (which feel like you're actually dying), it's knowing without them you will always be in pain where the bones were broken etc.
There are two kinds of addicts, mental addiction and physical, and often overlap. Both are not easy.
It takes an incredibly determined mind and a LOT of understanding and proper help to not only get clean, but stay.

It wasn't a rehab she was living in a boarding house that allows residents to use drugs. We have them here in Australia also. Staff come by weekly to check the rooms (mainly to see if anyone's dead or a meth lab isn't up 🤣) but yes, America would be a much better place with boarding houses. You wouldn't have so many homeless people if you're government cared about you the way Europe and Australia do.

    • @748xxjxxexx9

@Gcoolsnow I couldn't agree more! 😭 It's really really sad. To think of all the addict's who would still be here today and probably CLEAN, had America followed our lead. Did you know that it cost more per homeless person in the US per year that if they were properly cared for with government housing?! It cost MORE to ignore the problem like the government in the US do. It's really shocking that they know this yet still continue to do nothing. People don't realise how much more it costs them to not help these people. I watched a documentary recently on homeless in America and that's when they stated the costs compared to assisting with basic housing and addiction meds. It's huge. The crime is so much lower in places when homeless people get social housing and government money and Medicare. I'm so sorry you're people suffer so badly there. I often speak to other addict's in the US and I don't know know how they do it. I'm constantly telling people here in Australia how lucky we are. I still don't think most people here on welfare understand how much better off we are. Addiction is an illness. It should be free for addicts to get treatment. At the very least their methadone for free and social housing. It comes back ten fold when you see how much less these people are on the street doing more crime so they are not sick.b

But also, my mother and whole family showed me tough love! They enabled me for so long and they were done. My mother would NEVER let a boyfriend who was using with me anywhere near her home or nonetheless, smile about him because he's "keeping her safe" like wtf?? @TfromtheD(Detroit) I understand that T very much, I am 48 years old and I finally got 7 years clean, however, my PTSD and mental health issues, OCD etc have been hugely exacerbated by my use and myself medication. I thought I was totally hopeless but for some reason I was able to pull strength from all the horrid things I had been through and I was almost angered by them at that point and so I just kept pushing. I ended up being in treatment for almost 3 years because I knew I needed it. It was 9 months for the actual treatment and then in a halfway houses and then three quarter way houses and I got out of all of that and purchased my condo, a car, not all at once of course, LOL. I feel your pain and I know you can do this. I have seen you on other channels however I've never gotten a chance to speak with you. I admire your honesty, that was the biggest thing for me and today honesty is everything to me because I know without it I will be right back where I was but 10 times worse, you know it's a progressive disease so every time you go back to it it's always worse. Are you able to have a safe place to stay right now?? Is there anything I can do to help?? Please do not hesitate, I will not enable but I will go to the ends of the Earth for anyone who needs help and wants it. You seen the s*** show that's going on, I pray for you that you get better and that you ask for help when you need it hey there's nothing wrong with asking for help, I wish I would have known that 25 years ago. Namaste and please message me back in the comments if you want to talk or there was something I can do.

Opioid and heroin addiction are a completely different animal. You get hooked very quickly. Depending on how long you're in it detox takes weeks. Addiction is like a light switch. Once you turn it on it never turns back off. You have to learn to make better choices. Takes a lot of time and effort. Good luck to this young lady and family. Merry Christmas.

I can't agree with this. Oregon has very lenient drug laws that make it legal to carry a certain amount of any drug on you without it being illegal. My 16yo nephew passed away at a 20yo woman's apartment after she gave him weed laced with fentanyl. The police couldn't do anything because it wasn't illegal, dispite the fact my nephew thought he was only smoking weed given to him by someone he trusted. She did nothing for 45 minutes while he OD'd in the bathroom, until a friend of his went to check on him and tried to revive him with narcan and CPR until paramedics got there. That woman has had 11 ODs in her apartment, 2 resulting in deaths of minors, and the cops' hands are tied because of the stupid law. It protects dealers and junkies, it doesn't help. I was addicted to heroin from age 17 to age 20, I've been clean since 2005. If it were legal back then, I likely would not be alive today.

    • @AsamiUWU0
      @AsamiUWU0 2 года назад +13

If it was legal there would be so much more addicts, that doesn't really make sense. I agree that addicts need support but only when they want it they can get it. Some people just don't have will to get out.

The thing is, they can’t be part of a community when they are chasing heroin and a high all day. That’s all they spend their time on. They have to find money for it and then do it. They can’t contribute any other way to a community or household or anything. It’s so sad.

As the mother of a heroin addict, I made the difficult decision to resort to "tough-love". The only times he would call, was when he was homeless, hungry and broke. He destroyed his career and he is now a thief. I haven't heard from him in almost 4 years, because I closed the Bank of Mom & Dad. I can't locate him and no one knows where he is. Anytime I heard he was in jail, I was happy that he wasn't using, somewhere. He is my first born and I love him very much. He also won't contact his brother, unless he needs money. I don't know how to move forward. I need to know if he's alive. My own health is very poor and I know there isn't much time left. I can't let go until I have answers. 😭

I come from a family of addicts. I'm clean for over a decade. I lost my little Brother this same addiction. He'd been battling it for many years. We was living with our Parents because we took care of our Dad. One morning Frankie didn't get up and I went to his bedroom door to wake him but it was locked. I went to my Mom's room to see if she had a key and she said NO!. I went and got a butter knife and opened the door with that and.......My Little Brother Frank was lying on the floor in the fetal position not breathing. The worse was my Mom seeing her Son dead on the floor! I can remember the day as if it was yesterday 3-14-2016. But Fentanyl is what has taken over heroin. Killing more ppl in the world. Pray for the suffering addict. Sending love from Detroit MI USA

I have never struggled with drug addiction but my older sister did for years, i was too young to remember or even know. she struggled with it badly, in and out of hospitals because of OD, but she is now in her 30s. she owns her own home, is a manager at a store, has two great kids, a great fiancé and is 1000% clean. Im so proud of her, I look up to her so much because of how strong she is. she encourages me to keep going and dont give up (i struggle with various mental and neurological issues), and i know that isnt even comparable to the horrible grasp addiction has, but her resilience and determination motivates me. anyone who is struggling with drugs right now, recovery IS possible. relapse will happen! its a part of the process, but it doesn't mean that you cant recover or are a faliure. i know im a rando in a comment section, but i am so proud of you for coming this far and i believe in you and love you
