I love this conversation and I was actually looking forward to watching it because of Matthew coming from Africa, one of the places where not having children is unimaginable (correct me if I am wrong). It would be wonderful if Yen can invite Matthew again to talk more in-depth about the African society towards having / not having children. What did he see in his family and friends' circle? The part he mentioned about Africans do take children as their wealth is interesting. What if a grown man and woman like Matthew and his wife choosing not wanting to have children? What kind of pressure are they facing in real life? Will they be bullied? Will the blame be put on the woman or the man or both? How does this couple handle it? How did Matthew and his wife meet and was he direct about his thoughts right from the beginning? Was your wife on the same page as yours since beginning? Not being nosy, but knowing an actual story helps us understand a lot more what real child free couples are facing in their home country. Matthew also mentioned about he had these thoughts since he was around 10 years old due to extensive reading. Would you please share some of your favourite books and how did they influence you so deeply as a child? Besides books, do you feel suffered by your body or life in real life experience and what are they? Thank you in advance if Matthew can come to share more! I am sure he has a lot more to say. Thank you Yen once again as a wonderful host.

@18:56 - Yes, although generally being childfree is concerned with how procreation would affect yourself, unlike Antinatalism which is concerned with how procreation would affect the (potential) child, I would just add that being childfree **in itself** is NOT selfish.
Selfish is defined as 'a person/action lacking consideration or regard for others.' A childfree person doesn't have any children to be 'selfish' towards and not all reasons for being childfree are about self-interests. For example, some are childfree to prevent passing on genetic conditions or recognise they don't have the qualities to raise children well.
And although **some** childfree people say they're "too selfish" to raise children (i.e. they can't put others first which being a good parent would require), that is **just one potential reason** for being childfree.
Interesting

I was an overpopulation activist by the time I was 10, but that was in 1974 at the height of the overpopulation movement.
Wow. It must be painful to see how much the population has increased since then.
So important!! Will RUclips boost this?
HELL NO. SO SAD!
Let's do our part at least. Let's just share it on our own social media as much as possible 😁 I'm glad you liked it 😊👍🏽
I’m half Indian/American and childfree, currently traveling in Southeast Asia. This is underrated content.
