- Path of Exile is arguably the best ARPG on the market, but it comes with a difficulty curve that is harsh on new players. Here are some ways to help ease new players into the game.

hold alt and highlight an item, tells you prefix / suffixes. this is the default key, looking for advanced item descriptions in keybinds.
Yup yup was gonna say this myself xD
shouldn't even have to. last epoch has a notch to the left of an affix for prefixes and a notch to the right for suffixes. easy identifier
the reason why new players find it difficult is because they go in thinking it's difficult. I avoided PoE for it's entire decade of existence, then D4 pushed me into it. it is nowhere near as daunting as I originally thought. sure I have a long way to go before I master some of the more advance farm/craft methods. but the beauty is you can enjoy this game at any stage. there's always something to strive for while at the same time whatever you're currently doing is still fun. there's so many ways to enjoy this game it's insane.
according to Asmongold Betrayal league mechanic is: "always click on the right, thats it!"
and the maps are genericly build by AI new each map... there is no layout you can learn, so it doesnt matter if you new to the game or a veteran. everyone has to deal with making it through the map the same!
you can mouseover item to see detailed affixes breakdown - implicits, prefixes/suffixes and their tiers
it gets easier once you start to understand the mechanics, builds and the way things are working together.
My best advice is to pick build and follow it, dont look at specific gear at low levels, you will replace everything way faster than you think
i mean sure, it feels amazing to zoom through bosses and maps with a cyclone build, but those builds are usually min maxed to the last drop
been playing for about 18 leagues now with 3k hours roughly and still don't know how some things work lol, but when I first started I quit so many times before i locked down and learned it because it tells you nothing at all.
the amount of mechanics is overwhelming for sure, but that's because each year 4 leagues comes out and game was out for solid 10 years now and not even every league got to the core game :D Best advice for a new player would be to stick to the basics and pick one type of content you enjoy or just the current league mechanic and stick to it. If you try to understand everything you will burn out from the amount of information very fast. also making your own filter is insane unless you played for many many hours.
This is 100% accurate.
For instance, you cant even figure out what the Leagues are, (that theyre even called Leagues) to even begin your atlas.
Been playing PoE for a few years now and i would definitely put myself in the "new player" bracket even after all this time, without hesitation.
There's a depth to the game that ive come to appreciate, but just dont have the tine to invest in learning.
I agree though that they game could do a better job in explaining certain things.
And definitely respeccing your chsrcter hassle free should be allowed.
You give new players this huge skill tree and effectively punish them for making the wring choice, which sadly only becomes apparent when you can do little about it.
I feel you... the games put me into limbo because it's really beginers friendly.
I bricked my first character & quit the game for several years.
It’s probably the worst respec system of any game I’ve ever played, especially considering that a new player is very unlikely to make a viable build without a guide.
Lmao i play this game 5 year now, still dont know how betrayal work
Click on the righthand choice. That's how it works
Im in the same position as you mate picket up the game and it is brutal , i spend more time in youtube looking up guides then playing the game , i get it gets better the more you learn the game but good grief iets information overload when you pick up the game 😅
respecs should be free up to lvl 70. There's no justifiable reason why your character needs to be locked into anything before reaching endgame
"I play 100 hours, no idea what suffix and prefixes are" - press alt and hover over item, bruh
"i dont know how betrayal works" - i play this game since alpha, me too - in general each mechanic has the base complexity which is easy to understand. If you like the content the complexity is huge if u wanna optimize it.
Be less entitled dude, take your time and learrn the game - this is not one that you play for 5 hours and know everything.
I knew of poe, but was hesitant to get into it, because of the complexity. 550 hours on diablo 4, and now I'm at level 70 poe. Poe is much better. Even didn't use a build guide. Stacked feeezing pulse with a bunch of cold damage. One shotting normal mobs in tier 10.
There's a help tab. In game. You know that. Right?
80 hours in endgame and i enjoyed the campaign but now im so lost and your always thinking can i use this etc i used a maxroll guide and then when i get to endgame i have to respec so much of the tree from league starter and legit at lv 80 i dont have enough mats
I played this game on my PS4 but still playing it and i'm now Level 51 and I didnt know about Skill Tree so i always chose the Life and Mana even the Damage. I'm playing as Ranger, my Gem is Lightning Arrow with Mirage Archer / Greater Multiple / Barrage Support 😂
i have like 1000 hours and i still dont understand how Betrayal works lmao
I am a new player from D4. I just got to act 3 and currently have roughly 46 hours in game, 36 of those hours were spent on youtube trying to figure out what the hell I was doing, and another 30 hours on youtube while not logged into the game doing basic research for things I haven't gotten to yet. despite all that I am starting to enjoy the game quite a bit.
Biggest mistake new players make in POE is when they try to learn everything the first few hours into the game.
The game is meant to be discovered as you go, and knowledge to be accumulated from playing and trying things out.
So the next character you make will be better than the last one you played.
People are too afraid to make mistakes and it renders them incapable of learning and enjoying a game like this.
@@Noksivs I get what you're saying, I am not trying to learn everything, just enough that I don't get stuck with a crap build, the more I play the more I am enjoying the game. I'm pretty much hooked at this point...lol
Now if I could just figure out how to to get past the third round of one of these trial of the ancestor tournaments I will be set, I pretty much have just given up on even trying at this point and am just progressing through the campaign
@@rjboule35 Yeah, focus on as few "extra" mechanics as possible while leveling. You will have plenty of time to discover new stuff once you feel more comfortable with the general game itself, which will come as you go through the campaign.
I just built a simple witch elementalist, and I'm In act 10 now. I can't even go back and play diablo 4 anymore. Stab stab stab stab hoa stab stab stab stab hoa, so boring.
Pro tip, don't mess with the league mechanic if you can't beat Act 10. All first timers' primary goal should be to finish the campaign. That's it
they also losing money, if more players farm they would buy stash for more content but people reach maps and they stuck there don't know what to do next, or they build is broken and they don't know how to fix it, I been playing since a few years but not full into the game I just jump into some leagues and play I enjoy because I don't understand still the full game so maybe that's why I always comeback to play this game , but if new players were capable of enjoy the content and farm more content I'm sure they will buy stash cause they need it to progress faster and farm without struggling with items in stash, I hope po2 is more easy in that kind of concept.
It's not difficult at all. Playing basketball isn't "difficult". You can just start dribbling and trip up and fail, and STILL have fun. But don't expect you'll be Lebron James, dunking on people after a couple hours.
Same philosophy applies to POE
100%
POE is one of those games where if you have double-digit IQ you shouldn't bother to play.
Hard to learn? No. Most difficult part is the MTX needed to even play. Unless you make a clan and use it as personal storage even then... the game is beyond easy hardest part is gearing max block etc for an uber character (easily solved with just 1 class necro) play w.e build you want just make sure its on a necro max block and bone armor is highly underrated. Youll be able to face tank all the balls in no time 🤌
