  • An estimated 1.7% of all babies are born with an intersex natural bodily variation-an occurrence as common worldwide as having red hair. These individuals-born with sex characteristics that do not fit typical binary notions of male or female bodies-have historically been stigmatized as different and standard medical practice has been to subject them to surgeries that “normalize” their genitals. Procedures that could be delayed until intersex children are old enough to decide whether they want them are instead performed on infants who then have to live with the consequences. In 2013, a United Nations report condemned these “corrective” sex-assignment surgeries.
    Mx. Anunnaki Ray Marquez is the rare intersex individual whose genitals were not surgically altered at birth. Anunnaki is in the process of receiving a birth certificate recognizing that his true biological sex is intersex and not a disorder. Anunnaki hopes to build bridges of understanding so that all people, no matter how they label themselves, may experience the wholeness that is a basic human right in a socially just world.
    Born intersex and assigned the wrong gender at birth, Anunnaki Ray Marquez lived as female for the first 46 years of life before emancipating his authentic male gender in 2014. Anunnaki’s marriage survived, and he remains with his husband of 28 years; the couple have three children, two biological and one adopted. In September 2018, Anunnaki received a birth certificate from the state of Colorado recognizing that his true biological sex is intersex and not a disorder. He became the third person to be recognized as intersex in the U.S. His social activist work focuses on an individual’s right to bodily autonomy, and the right to express their true gender identity.
    Anunnaki is the Director of Gender/Intersex Education for PFLAG of Jacksonville, as well as an Intersex Advocate for Partnership for Child Health’s Jacksonville Youth Equality. He has become a gender/intersex activist and educator for all intersex, gender variant, and transgender children who have no voice and are being medically and psychiatrically harmed. Anunnaki is also a musician, performer, and artist. Visit Anunnaki’s TEDxJacksonville source page (anunnakiray.com/tedx-jacksonv...) for dozens of fact sheets about Intersex humans.

      It is every child's human right to remain with uncut genitals regardless if we are born endosex or intersex. Self-determination as consenting adults is also our human right. This world has to do better. Thank you for all the hard work you do for bodily autonomy, @brotherk9951.

      @@mx.anunnakiraymarquez6295 The idea that babies born intersex can be legally mutilated by surgical procedures is something I could never understand. It is just 100% logical that these children should be allowed to grow up and decide by themselves what gender identity they feel it fits them. I can't even fathom how could anyone think it would be ok to proceed with invasive medical interventions when no one - not the parents or even science - knows what the intersexed human being will be when he/she grows up. Such surgical interventions should not only be considered illegal, they should be called body mutilations and the penalty for its perpetrators must be a lengthy jail time. Same with clitoridectomy, practiced by some Islamists: it is clearly mutilation, it is a crime and we impose jail time for anyone doing it in the Western World. May intersex mutilations be treated the same.

    I’m so angry that these surgeries still happen in America. As a parent if one of my children were born intersex I horrifyingly would have trusted doctors that could have suggest surgeries. Luckily, I have learned so much in the last 2 years. But to know these surgeries are still happening makes me sick.

    I was born "Kleinfelter's 48 (XXXY)". I was brought up male, like other boys, but with some abnormalities which my family never talked about openly, among which which that I was sterile, NEVER able to father children. I gave up on ever having a relationship, and not until my 30's was I ever able to find a woman that could put up with me, especially knowning that we could never have biological children. My wife and I met 30 years ago; now 30 years later, we have 4 biological children together. All my life I was told by family and doctors I could never father children; that there were none-to-few like me anywhere in the world; and that I would never meet anyone like myself. I was never given corrective surgury as an infant or child, and this is the reason why I am opposed to any such forced surgeries on infants or children!

    It should be celebrated. God made these people this way. It’s vile to me that doctors are allowed to operate on these children without the child’s consent. It’s not for them to decide. The child should decide. We can learn a lot from intersexed people. We are fortunate to have them and for them to share their experience. I am glad to hear that intersex is now an option on the birth certificate, as it should be. Best wishes to all those born intersexed-may the future accept and celebrate and not hide or denigrate your uniqueness.

      I'm happy to hear intersex is on birth certificates in some places. I don't think we should demonize (not saying anyone on this thread is guilty) doctors or parents who think otherwise. Parents believe they are doing what's in the best interest of the child and doctors are trying to help them. We need to address social "norms". It's interesting to think about what the law would look like if the parent doesn't have that option of making decisions for their children. Would the law stop parents from transitioning children with Gender Dysphoria? Are there born intersex children who are happy their parents did the surgery?

    • @mx.anunnakiraymarquez6295
      @mx.anunnakiraymarquez6295 Год назад +6

      @@Mralbertorivera1 when it comes to something as personal as one's gender identity no one can decide that for another person. It is not so much that we need laws to stop parents from making choices for their child. It is that we need to create a world that understands that only the intersex baby knows who they should be. This means we have to wait for the child to decide. It is that simple.

    Intersex is an evolution. Every man has a bit of womanhood in him and every woman has a pinch of manhood in her. What is there to be ashamed off. Instead we should celebrate intersex humans. They are whole, they are the One.. Thank you for sharing the truth😊

    I'm glad I finally understand more than I did before but I'm for not mutilating babies I had a second cousin that was born and then I was a little girl and I heard whispering amongst the grown ups scene she had a operation cuz she was too big down there and so they cut it off to make it be a girl well she grew up like a zombie just staring and not talking and I remember as a teen and I was in my twenties and there was a party and she just stood there staring at people she did get married though

  • @dianalee8967

    That was cut off down there where I said she did get married unable to have children she adopted two children from Mexico in the '50s that was easy to do I don't know anymore about her life after that she was married to a man and was probably doing all the correct things to please her family mostly her mother and father maybe if they would have let her be she would have been married to a woman we will never know

    Annunaki are thought to be angelic beings who bred with earth women to make a hybrid species. The giants that came forth from this union were called the Nephilim. Men of renown. The mixing of the seed could have caused this. Does not change the dilemma you in.
