Lego made a Senna minifigure. This is just legendary as an F1 fan and lego collector. The car looks very good but i’m concerned about lego’s white printing on red pieces.
As a long time fan of F1, I remember watching Senna racing this very car, so an absolute purchase for me! I hope they make this a series of F1 legends, I'd buy them all!
but look at the nose! Look at the tires! LOOK AT THE WRONG HELMET DESIGN! I am a F1 Fan of the time but that thing Wenn wrong... Ok its not a :18 model its Lego but this could be much better as it is...😮
They did, and I have one (luckily), but having an F2004 with updated building techniques and a better aesthetic would be fire 🔥🔥🔥 Also, as a self-proclaimed honorary Brazilian (I lived in São Paulo for two years, my wife is Brazilian, and my children are half Brazilian), and as an F1 and Ayrton Senna fan, I am so happy Lego made this car. No, it’s not perfect, but it passes my test and can’t wait to get one!
Apart from the fact that I'm bored to see more and more cars Lego should definitely improve the printing quality especially the white color on red parts looks terrible. Nevertheless I would like to see no stickers at all on an Icons set.
I am ecstatic that LEGO is committing to Formula 1 and made a Senna McLaren. This is my favorite car and driver. However, I am unfortunately very underwhelmed by this model as a whole. The shaping on the nose ruins the silhouette far, far too much for me. The shaping of the sidepods is also way too rectangular in the rear. The introduction of slick tyres is great, but it's also incredibly disappointing that they didn't make the wider wheels for the back. I also am very confused by the shaping of the roll hoop. While the steering function is cool, I would have much preferred that LEGO choose looks over the play feature. Icons is supposed to be for display, yet they threw out one of the most iconic shapes on the car for a play feature. With all that being said, I hope this set does well, so that we can get a Michael Schumacher Ferrari, Jim Clark Lotus, etc. :)
I agree as well. It looks somewhat cheap and not serious enough as an Icons display set. It has more of a 3-in-1 creator vibe to it. I mean it's not exactly bad but I don't see much details that are worth appreciating.
I get that this is a special Senna set, but it would've been really nice if it came with a Prost minifig and helmet too, and the option to use the number 11 instead of 12 on the car.
My favorite driver and probably the most underrated driver in f1 history which is impressive for a 4 time world champion. I’m planning on looking into a way to customize it into prost
Not concerned at the split spoiler but rather at the inaccurate tyres Quite like the V6 engine being visible and of course the figure of Ayrton Senna, an icon of motorsport fittingly available in a LEGO ICON set.
Very nice review, Tiago! However, I was expecting a comparison with the original MP4/4. The nose is completely different from the original. There is a huge white space that does not exist, and I don't think that's a size restriction. I've already seen some MOCs on the internet with a more consistent representation. The minifigure is not that accurate; it should have red gloves, and the helmet should also have a black stripe under the green stripe. As a Brazilian, this is a MUST-HAVE set, lol, but I was expecting more.
1) That's not Senna's helmet, where is the dark blue line ? 2) Lego can't print triangles anymore it seems 3) Only the best is good enough -> So we give them 4 of the same tires
You were the only one that mentioned the suspension (haven't watched Racing Brick yet, though). as a brazilian myself, I intend to review this set as well, as soon as I can get it. Senna remains a big inspiration in Brazil, and I think more people will like to see this in detail and in Portuguese.
Obrigado! As a brazilian, huge fan of Ayrton Senna, all these details are minor, and I bought one. Thank you for your time talking about this set, and also thank you for remember the great Ayrton Senna!!
Was glad to see you review this set, as a Brazilian yourself. This set isn't just important to fans of F1 or motorsport, or car people into McLarens. To my knowledge, Senna remains an icon of Brazilian culture and success, so this set is important for an entire nation.
The MP4/4 was the most successfull car in history till... 2023 : The 2023 redbull RB 19 won 21 on 22 races, "better" in therm of percentage than the 15 on 16 of the McLaren ;-) Hopping a Formula 1 car serie in icons theme ! Ferrari F1 2004, Mercedes FW13, Redbull RB19, etc...
Alwasy appreciate you pointing out ways sets could be cheaper. People mostly talk about "good to have" not the consonances of having extra stuff you dont need.
That white on red printing quality is just unacceptable, it's pink, not even close to white. LEGO quality over the recent years has been atrocious, to say the least. Such a shame.
This is honestly a lot better than I thought. I expected it to be display-oriented only. I didn't expect the steering, nor the quasi-suspension, nor a fully detachable back, nor it BEING ON-SCALE TO THE OTHER ICON CAR SETS!!!! I wasn't going to buy it, but now I am. At $100 AUD, it is considerably cheaper than the next car in the series - the $250 Corvette. Half the pieces, but much less than half the price, and a minifigure. Thank you Lego!
Sadly those stickers are horrible. If you have to make stickers instead of prints at least go for the same white. This could've been made so much better.
Regarding the McLaren branding on the rear wing instead of Marlboro - both versions were in use for a while, depending on whether local laws prohibited tobacco advertising or not, so it varied from race to race. They were lucky that McLaren didn't look so different and they deliberately used the same/similar font, so many people didn't even notice that it didn't always say Marlboro.
A really cool set!!! I’m just a fan of vehicles in general, so I might have to pick it up! 😃 The white print on the red wedges…. man I wish they made the ink thicker. The color is still just a bit too far off. I’d even pay an extra $5 for it to match the white bricks! This is a problem on minifigures recently too. ❤
3 shades of white is a massive disappointment (white plate, even whiter stickers, and pink/white on the red printed nose piece). Not for me or more serious F1 fans who want more realistic rear tyres, contours etc - I was waiting to see the model and have ordered a minichamps 1:18 Senna model instead
If you're looking for more car sets, don't sleep on the Speed Champion series. They have a lot of interesting building techniques, and the final products look really good. There's also a few other F1 cars available in the series.
"Racing, competing is in my blood. It´s part of me, it´s part of my life. I´ve been doing it all my life. And it stands up before anything else." - Ayrton Senna
Love the set with Ayrton Senna minifigure as a tribute to such a great driver and to see back Shell logo back in a Lego set after the forced breakup of brand deals
I think that for 80 Dollars you just dont get enough and the quality isnt super good as well, the white prints in red have a pink look to them, not everything is printed and the tires in the back should be wider.
Awesome set I wonder what Lego will do with the Honda license I like that there's a stand and a minifigure, more Icons car sets should be like this Should be a bit cheaper
Im a huge f1 fan but i hate the look of the rear. The rear tyres are the same size as the fronts which is just wrong, they should be way thicker. But to give the illusion of this Lego made the rear wheels stick out more, but that makes the suspension look really weird. I also cant get over the front nose with the white printed on red which gives it this weird red outline. Also, the red isnt that triangle shape it should be.
Thanks for the great walk-through, Tiago. For me, it'd only 80% there. The rear wheels and tyres are far too narrow and the nose shaping and the not-white printing on the red parts is poor, given then price
Great review! The printed slope on the nose ruins the set for me. I wonder why they chose to print white on a red slip instead of printing red on a white slope.
3:17 I don’t think it’s Sennas signature, just a logo. I can’t get over the stickers on a white background and the miscolored white printing on the nose.
Does LEGO gain money from brands like Shell? It is necessary to have them in the model if accuracy is wanted, but they are free advertising nonetheless! Does anyone know something about this kind of topics?
As a true F1 fan of the generation, there's a lot I can't agree with. Wrong nose, narrow tires, wrong white on the red parts, and above all the helmet is totally wrong and has nothing to do with Senna. Unfortunately there are many serious errors in the model but ok, its a Lego and not 1:18

When you reveal the engine, you can also see the colours of the Brazilian flag! Cool! 🇧🇷
Its more likely to be a reference to his helmet, that has blue and green stripes in that order.

Also old F1 cars in museums are often displayed at this angle

As a Brazilian and growing up with Senna this is a must buy. Yes it could be a better model but I’m just glad Lego did it.
Cool looking piece, I hope LEGO makes a Schumacher F2004 set one day
They already did, back in 2005.
They did, and I have one (luckily), but having an F2004 with updated building techniques and a better aesthetic would be fire 🔥🔥🔥

Look at the wheels. Look at the prints. This is horrible quality and for 80 bucks a complete slap in the face of every fan.

3:00 the main sponsor at the time was Marlboro, if I'm not mistaken, not Shell. That's why the car is red/white.
If they had to make all wheels the same width, they should have made all of them wider, instead of giving us 4 narrow front ones
For 80 bucks those wheels should've been as they were in real life
Yeah, it looks dumb, and it's not hard at all to get something like that in proportion compared to trying to replicate the bodywork.
Awesome set for Senna fans! Obrigado for reviewing it! 🟩🟨🟦

LEGO didn't print the sharp triagles/chevrons because they represent Marlboro.
For real the way that all of these fanboys keep defending this horrible set is just sad
Agreed, the prints are horrible and the helmet ist a shame at best. Absolutely a no go 🙅!
@@jkarhiahothis is no excuse. The colors from the back als represent the Triangel from Marlboro.
