- Did you just get a set of HDZero goggles in the mail? Maybe you just got your order in, but I am going to show how to get started anyway! We will be covering things like how to power them safely, picking antennas, flashing them, set up your HDZero VTX, and all of the menu options they have. I just ordered my HD zero goggles 2 days ago, super excited, all I've been flying is cheap box goggles for 4 years. When they get here I will be using this video as a setup guide for sure, very well done
Finally! After 3 months my new goggles have arrived! I've already reflashed all of my HDZero quads and everything works great! The new 90 camera works great too. Colors are a bit exaggerated but I really like the new experience. I feel like a kid on Christmas day!
I too had to turn the saturation down a bit, lol. The OLEDs they chose are pretty awesome though, and the 90hz camera is a great addition to their lineup. I can't wait to get a pair that I can keep so I can play with them again!

I've been using most of the same gear I started with back in 2018/2019, so it's really been feeling behind the curve lately. This year I've started switching the fleet over to elrs, ordered one of the new boxer radios, and might give in and end up using my walksnail vrx with a set of these goggles. It's going to feel like being brand new again for a while!
lololol...it is always hard to win an argument with yourself, especially when it comes to one over new FPV gear :p It sounds like you are getting some good life out of what you are using though, so an investment every now and then is acceptable to give you a couple more years of new features. At least you aren't a "buy everything new because it is new" pilot...that gets expensive, lol.

mmmm crispy bacon, lol. That makes me think I need a bacon based rating system for reviews!!!!!! I think going HDZ on micros is a great idea. They tend to really benefit from low fixed latency since they can be so twitchy and responsive. I hope you get yours soon!
Good point on the control link, definitely ELRS or Ghost at high link rate, especially with the Runcam90.
I run ELRS 500hz, still haven’t tried 1000, now that I am running this goggle I will have to try it.
I run 2 cherries on the top and 2 lollipops on the bottom when I’m flying around myself, house, yard.
When I get outside I just use 4 triple feed patch, crosshair or helical antennas.
For power I’m using a 10k mAh 18W PD power bank in my pocket with a USB-C to 5.5x2.1 or just whatever battery I have lying around… or a laptop power supply if I’m at home, sitting on the couch.
I usually run ELRS at 250hz, but sometimes I feel super fast and switch it up to 500hz, lol. I haven't messed with the 1000hz modes either, but I might give them a shot as well at some point. I have tried the quad patch setup, but didn't really like it as much as having some omni's available to the array. I have heard lots of people say good things about that set up though. What kind of power bank are you using? I have seen some wild price differences across the board on them.

I shoulda licked it!!!!!!!! I recommend setting that power switch to off when using 6S just to avoid the initial plug in spike, but I have a feeling lots of people are just going to leave it on and roll with plugging in as the on switch, lol. I did that multimeter shot like 6 times and my camera kept freaking out due to something about how the LCD was refreshing...it was either blowing out the screen or refusing to focus the whole time. I really need better cameras that I can set a fixed focus on and manually lock the settings :(

Does the angle that the True RC antennas sit on the goggle with the way they are mounted effect the beam angle at all when flying?Allot of pilots and myself included will look down. Would there be any benefit to running antenna like the True Rc MX2 Air and angle them on the goggles?
Great content! It would help if you shaded the multimeter screen so the readout would be visible- around 9:56 and earlier.

Yeahhhhh....I could not for the life of me get the stupid bench camera to focus when that multimeter screen was on. I did it 6 times...so I had to go with hopefully you an see what my probes are doing well enough and understand what I am saying with the negative polarity symbol. :(
@@BaconNinjaFPV i received my Goggles and Race2/90Cam bundle yesterday. Tried to update and it bricked lol. Unbricked it trough the manual BUT NOT using that Phoenix app thing, just formatted to fat32 and followed the steps. it's pretty logical and worked out.
Now to install the Race 2 vtx and 90fps cam in my SniperX racer....

Hi thanks for the video, do the HDzero vtx whoop lite comes with 25mw or 200 ? is there a way to find out, I can’t do it from beta flight I guess I need to do an update thanks
You are very welcome!! On the whoop lite, I believe it comes set to 25mw out of the box. If you don't want to go through the hassle of setting up smart audio or updating to 4.4 to get MSP VTX control, you can use the stick commands on page 18 of the VTX manual to change the output power. Basically you will want to start the quad up with your goggles on and radio connected, then move your sticks in and to the bottom. Hold them there for a couple of seconds, and the VTX menu will pop up. Just navigate through that and you should find some power output settings to change it with.

39:45 are you recording the menu internally with the goggles? I can't seem to start a recording for longer than a few seconds, unless a quad is on, and when I switch to the menu, the recording stops!
I must be missing something, because that would be frustrating if recording the menu was not an option.
In this one I am actually recording the whole thing with a capture card over its HDMI out, so I bet going to the menu is actually kicking you out of having the recording function available when you are trying with the DVR :(

hello mr. bacon. when flashing my goggles I go to unzip the hdzero goggle file. and it opens my winrar to unzip all the bin files do I only copy the hdzero goggle BIN file, or do I copy all of them. (boot,os,rx,va BIN files onto the root of sd card?
you should just need the one HDZERO_GOGGLE bin file in the root. All of those other ones are for the emergency recovery procedure I believe. Kinda cluttered in those zip files, lol.
Why on earth would I need to read the manual when I could just watch you videos??

Pulled the trigger on the freestyle bundle. Should be shipped late this month. Did the VTX progamming cable come with the freestyle VTX? I Cant imagine they wouldnt include it with my expensive piece of plastic.😂
You should absolutely get a cable with the goggles! They don't send any cables with the VTX kits (except a Mipi in this case), but all of the receiving equipment should come with one. They have a pretty cool new flashing tool too that makes all of this a little easier!

Followup question. When I get my goggles and drone built, how would I go about transmitting audio back to the goggles?
I understand it would work if the VTX had smart audio, but with the newer digital VTX's smart audio isn't a thing anymore. Can you give me some insight into this issue?

you sure can! Just make sure your VTX antenna has a UFL connector since all of the HDZ ones take that connection, and make sure your goggle antennas match the polarity of your VTX antenna.

Could I use the 2s pack that comes with my DJI V2 goggles? I have a few of them.
"technically" yes you can. I have used mine, and it does work. Only down side is that the voltage coming out of pack swings pretty wildly. Never below what is necessary, but it can get kind of annoying with low voltage alarms.

it is a little confusing, for sure! I do have a vid on it though. A little dated, but the process is still the same :) ruclips.net/video/KAOU2KqFZyM/видео.html You will just have to go to the firmware menu in the goggles and tell it to flash VTX rather than having the VRX figure it out on its own.

Fan indicator disappeared from my goggle osd , how can I get it back ?
hmmmm, I have seen that happen a couple of times. First things first, just make sure your fan is set to on in the settings as a double check. I am sure that it is, but still a good idea to take a second look at :) After that, I would recommend flashing the goggles and any VTXs that are older than the goggle version you wind up flashing. Most of the time when it disappears like that it is something with the icon pack the goggles are using that causes it to not render correctly.

What four antenna combo would you recommend for a mobula 6 whoop?
hmmmmm, that is a good question. If all you ever wanted to fly was a little Mob6 whoop, I would say a couple of TrueRC singularity omnis on the top connectors and two of their stubby variants on the front ones. If you plan on running more than just that whoop long term though, I would go with the TrueRC front patch kit and either the stubbies or normal length coax Singularity variety for the top. There are also some upsides to running a linear antenna setup all around with 90 degree differences in orientation for matching polarity with the linear antenna on the Mob6, but that one would get a bit more tricky.

Bacon, Bacon, Bacon my OSD center is offset to the left side of my goggle screen on two of my whoops. Tried 4:3 and 16:9 and no diff. Any thoughts?
hmmmmm, are those your only whoop boards or are you running other whoop boards and just these two are a bit off?
@@BaconNinjaFPV I have one other whoop board and OSD is nicely centered.
@@rocketrob3324 hmmmm, there would for sure need to be something set different between the two. If they are both running the same cam and vtx as the on you have working properly, I would go into the CLI and copy out the OSD lines from a "dump all" command. Then I would go paste those over into the one that is off by a bit and see what that does. It could also be a firmware difference on the VTX since the grid for how many characters wide/tall the OSD is allowed to display is set in that firmware.

I got a reply from HDZero tech and their suggestion was to go back to BF 4.3. I will check CLI as you suggest and worse case just drag all the OSD elements over to the right in BF. :)

For box goggles, the Cobra X v2 is probably the best option available! Great screens, a nice modular receiver with full antenna swap options, great DVR, and a terrific control layout.
The Joshua bardwell cable stopped working in a month
oof...that is sad :( I have had some concerns with mine being super loose lately. Hopefully they can get a v2 out with option ends for connecting two devices, more amps, and maybe a braided cable cover...I would love to see that happen.
I’m stuck at 35 minutes, when I plug in a lipo and then the usb under device ready it says no. Everything up to that point went smoothly
So usually that means there is something wrong with which UART is selected for MSP VTX control in Betaflight 4.4. I would double check that it is selected on the correct one and that your RX/TX wires are going to the correct pads. I hope that helps!

What video editor do you recommend?
I use Premiere Pro, but I also hear great things about Davinci Resolve. I just haven't moved over yet because I also use lightroom and photoshop, so sticking with one software suite is simpler. Premiere does crash a lot... :(
also worth mentioning that chromebooks won't work for this firmware update process.

mine are actually super pre-production. They are Ryan Quellet's set from the original mold tests that HDZ did prior to shipping the beta group. That does mean I have to return them soon though :(
I wish hdzero had more goggles available at launch, having such a limited first run makes me wary of their own belief in the product. I bought them regardless because they seem great on paper, but waiting 3 months for a product to ship is lame, I'm American, I want it yesterday 😂😂😂
I wish they had more in that first round too, it would have been so nice to get them in more people's hands up front. I suppose it was just a very expensive order to place and they just didn't have the up front capitol to make it happen :( Amazon has spoiled us here in the US, lol...I want all my things with Prime shipping!!

yeah, absolutely the downside to a popular product from a small company :( It is good and bad though. It is terrible to have to wait, but at least we know they are doing well enough to be supported for a good long time!

FatShark Case is insane and if u fit the batteries wrong inside that sounds like your problem to me. why someone would be stupid like that? :d
i would say it happens most often when someone is in a hurry and throws the cells in there. It isn't really keyed well to tell you which way things are in, and if you are using flat top 18650's that makes it pretty easy to mix up. Would be better if it just had a fuse so it didn't destroy the goggles though :)

yeah, that part ticked me off, lol. I did it a bunch of times and my camera just kept freaking out and flickering or over exposing. I guess the LCD refresh rate didn't jive with the software very well.
@Bacon Ninja FPV yea it's always huge issues trying to record screens. A few times I've gone back done another clip just recording screen. It's so annoying.
We were told a few weeks ago shipping would start on 23 Jan 2023. from their website "Expected to start shipping in mid-March". You Tube folks need to stop putting out incorrect information. Add the 3 to 8 week shipping time on top of that. Nonsense. Money left my account 10 minutes after order.
If you want the honest truth....we weren't told either. The documentation that I got pre-embargo made no mention of it being a pre order scenario, temporary price, or staggered shipping.

@JDDupuy Yeah I have been keeping an eye on lots of other people in the same boat with their orders. Best I can tell there were two batches. One that started shipping yesterday, and another in March. Im not sure where the split between the two batches was as far as how many goggles got into the first batch. I would assume based on you not having any info about ship dates, that yours is probably in that second group :(

I cannot get video from my hd zero freestyle vtx. The rx and tx wires should only be for OSD correct? I should be getting video as long as vtx is powered up. When I scan for channel, nothing is found. I have carefully followed updating procedures, but I am getting nothing. Do I have a faulty vtx maybe? Any suggestions would help, thanks.
So.. what you're saying about the fatshark battery case is I CAN use it, it puts out the correct voltage and amps (if the batteries are capable blah blah) and the only reason why I shouldnt use it is cause dumb people are inserting the batteries without looking at the polarity aaaaand it breaks, the reason for that being miraculous fairy wish type of ways?

lol, partly yes. I will say though, it doesn't take dumb to make a small mistake putting them in backwards since the case isn't keyed and there isn't any protection on the goggle side besides one fuse that is a one time deal with no easy replacement. Everyone makes the occasional mistake, and I just don't want it to cost anyone their goggles.
Finally an honest review this is why I'm going to wait for three years for this system to iron out all of the f****** frogs
waiting isn't ever a bad call. This is a first gen product, and even though I think it is pretty darn great for gen 1 there is no way to tell what it will look like 12 months from now.

Hey Bacon. I ordered them and waiting to receive but about the battery. On my skyzones I use the DJI battery would this be ok to use on the hdzero goggles. Great vid. Keep it up. Thanks.
You technically can...but it is for sure technically, lol. The battery pack is 2S and it will power the goggles, but the voltage output by it swings pretty hard. You will for sure get some false positive battery warnings if you don't set the lower batt limit to 3.2v, and there is a good chance you will still get some of them anyway. Thank you!! :)
Sharkbyte/HDzero have completely turned me off to digital. Its a pain in the ass to setup and is very expensive. You can get an analog vtx for twenty bucks. The HDzero vtx start at 50 dollars and go up from there and we haven't even bought a camera yet. Nope no hdzero for me.

Yes, technically you can do that...but there are some things to consider. Firstly, you will only have one antenna on the quad and that one will either be LHCP or RHCP so mixing the antennas on the goggles between the two won't have as big of an impact as it would if you could run both polarities on the quad. But lets assume you want to run an RHCP antenna on the quad. With that, you could benefit from having both RHCP and LCHP on the goggles if you were in a highly reflective environment, but that benefit would be minimal. Also the receiver mixing that HDZero uses isn't truly diversity or mixing like we see in analog receivers. It uses two constellations of antennas and picks data from both of them at once, so again the benefits of mixing antennas on the goggles would be even more minimal. Really the best experience will be with four antennas matching the polarization of whatever you are running on the quad. Sorry for such a long response! lol
