Just for the record, if you can live with manual focus, there are plenty of Hasselblad HC and HCD lenses around for very good prices which work perfectly with the X2D with the XH adapter, including the leaf shutter in the lens so that you don’t have to rely on the slow electronic shutter (btw, in you can get the orange dot version they even work with AF, but they are rare and much more expensive). Only negative issue: they tend to be rather bulky!
Now Leica is only one truly legendary brand. Because Hasselblad - it's a DJI. When I'm thinking about it stops me to buy X2D or 907x. Very happy with my M11
Because they got bought by DJI? If anything, DJI is what bought these mirrorless cameras everyone is drooling over. They are still produced in sweden and all. Just consider it a management change.
DJI is just ownership. Who owns leica? It’s the same game, the owners have simply financial interests - that’s all. I have been a Leica shooter for 15 years, but since the last owner sold Leica to blackrock, the magic is gone. Leica has become another mainstream camera producer aiming for quantity and just spits out more and more cameras every year - diluting the quality. So imho Hasselblad seems closer to its roots right now than Leica focusing on a niche…
@@aerioplux That’s not right. BlackStone owns 44% of Leica Camera AG. Mr. Kaufmann from Austria owns the majority (56%) and is the head of board of directors.

You can adapt third party lenses for the camera. I put a Nikon 58/1.4 on it, no vignettes but manual focus. TCX-01 adapter from Techart that can use AF on Canon EF lenses.
I tried to get into this system. I decided to buy a couple lenses first since I'd heard they were terribly difficult to get and I didn't want to end up with a camera body I couldn't use. Bought one lens, had to camp the Hasselblad store for months for a chance to buy the other... and then the store didn't send it to me. They put another tracking number into my order, making it look like it'd been fulfilled. Took me two weeks to notice it wasn't my tracking number, and then two months of asking what was going on, before they decided to just cancel my order (costing me hundreds of dollars in currency conversion fees). I'm not about to start camping the store for months again, especially not after it screwed me this bad, so now I can't get into the system and will have to sell the lens I already got at a loss. Awful experience. I strongly recommend not attempting to get into this system, the lenses are too hard to get and their store policies are unacceptable.
I shot Leica for many years since late 70’s but I bought this camera and I love it . Not for action or wild life …. But portrait, land scape and slow moving subjects . IQ is the best and colour so neutral , for me it’s better than my Leica system ( M , SL and Q ) .
Also with the V lenses, I mostly do zone focusing like on the M it works great and I actually if you want the same that field because it’s a medium format you have to stop it down a little bit more so it’s easier for a zone focusing
Amazing stuff Jimmy. I have the GFX 100 and somehow the MF sensor just…feels different. Perhaps the lenses are key. AF is getting way better nowadays. Can’t wait for where MF systems would be in a few years. Looking forward to more from you!
@@bathvader yeah the iq of today’s medium format system is simply stunning. I guess it’s the color depth and lens. Because I still much prefer 50mp medium format files over 60mp full frame files.
@@johnchan7544 hey sorry unfortunately I don’t. With the size and weight of the SL system, I don’t see the point of owning one versus the X2D/gfx100s. How is the M11 faster than the X2D? Even when considering, that the autofocus at the X2D is slow, the M11 hasn't one! So you have to compare the manual focus abilities an they are pretty much the same. When looking through the viewfinder I even find it easier to focus on the X2D because of the very(!) small measuring point on the M11.
@@aglefpueschel1828 you don’t have to focus for street stuff with zone focusing. But anyways, did I say m11 is faster? I thought it was more agile is all.
they're completely different cameras tbh. one is for video and all genres of photography. One is for photography only but at a marginally better IQ. I would say the R5ii is better for 99% of the ppl.
Sold my Leica M11 for X2D. So much better experience no regrets. Autofocusing is mediocre which will do for 90% of shots but is a serious drawback in this iteration of this Hasselblad. In body stabilization very impressive. I mage quality noticeable better than Leica M11. My dream camera is Leica M11 with small autofocus lenses. I know it will never happen.
Nice pics, but to be honest - most of them could have been taken with a smartphone, too. As long as one doesn’t want or need to print big and as long as these pics are just published on some social media platforms, it’s hardly possible to say if a photo is taken with a medium format camera or a smartphone. Given this, it’s absolutely valid to use a medium format camera for personal enjoyment, but on the internet only very few people will see a difference.
@@JimmyChengCan you please elaborate on your experience with that combo? I guess I had never thought about trying to adapt my M lenses because of the combination of their smaller image circle and the electronic shutter.
@@mjlamott you can get away with xpan mode for some lenses. Others you need to probably do a 1:1 ratio. Plus the fact that you only have e shutter, I don’t think it’s worth it. Gfx is a better system for that.

Fantastic review as always Jimmy. I agree with you that the images produced by the X2D system really are unparalleled. However, the fact that I had to wait for half a year for 90V, another half for my 38V is a pretty frustrating experience, to say the least. There are also quite a bit of QC issues with the earlier patches of X2D such as too much wiggle room on the lens mount etc.

I suppose you could always downscale the files but still seems like a waste. Thanks for the review. Maybe one day ill give one a try.
