Yeah lens hood can be take off, and the filter thread is 39mm.
Love your Leica M9 videos!
柴柴也很好奇新鏡頭喔哈哈 好可愛
The new canon eos R5 II is a X2D killer
they're completely different cameras tbh. one is for video and all genres of photography. One is for photography only but at a marginally better IQ. I would say the R5ii is better for 99% of the ppl.
Spot on Jimmy. The 38mm and 90 f2.5 are both amazing, fyi.
To be honest, I’m waiting for your review since release, since I want to place an order on this one because of 50mm and the size and weight, but no clue about it optical performance. Specially curious about the comparison with the Summicron 50mm v5 😇
@@IntrovertAmateur yeah that’s what I’m gonna compare it with, so stay tuned and sit tight!
@@JimmyCheng awesome, can’t wait! :D To be honest my thought is to sell my Summicon 50mm v5 to get this one, because of size and weight aka EDC lens and have extra cash for a Thypoch lens. But my head still thinks Leica glass is Leica glass 😅😀
@@IntrovertAmateur i guess we’ll soon find out
@@JimmyCheng you are awesome man! :) If your time allows it also curious how it performs on film 😇
Very strange, I can take off the hood of mine without a problem
@@SCampbell86 could be temp change during shipment. Mine is super stiff. But I did finally take it off.
impatiently waiting for the review!
I think you should be able to put off the lens hood, but perhaps to changing temperatures while being packed outside it got stuck for a while 🫣
@@ThomasBoots yeah I finally got it off. It was super tight.
I also bought the lens, gonna receive it in a couple of days. Looking forward to your review Jimmy!
Also it would kinda suck if the hood can't be taken off, the very small size was one of the main reasons I bought this lens... But all press photos I saw the hood should come off, maybe it's just too tight?
遮光罩應該是可以拆的,可能是旋轉方向不一樣?
我发现了,但是超级难拆。。。我都怕掰断
没买那个f3.5的APO么?
没有哎,对那个镜头不是很有兴趣哈哈
期待新影片!
thank you appreciate it.
Looking forward for the review jimmy!
yeah super excited for it as well.
Looking forward to your review!
super excited, great lens for size and weight already.
Jealous! lol I ordered mine as soon as it was available and was supposed to receive it today...but it's delayed in the mail. Looking forward to your review!
oh wow, sorry to hear that. Yeah super pumped for the review as well.
Thanks for the great video! I really showed the camera’s performance in a lot of challenging conditions:) What lens did you use?
I like the Star Trek outfit in this video😂.
I do also have the RNI film pack. Did you use their Portra 400 Profile for most of the shots or different ones?
I had a 28 Elmarit loaner recently and loved it but couldn’t bring myself to spend around $1,800 (give or take) for a used copy. Been considering the 28 color skopar and this excellent review I think will seal the deal for me. My only consideration was whether I go for the 2.0 ultron given it isn’t much more expensive or much bigger. But I see this as primarily a street lens and would rarely need more than the 2.8. So I think smallest possible form factor is what I prefer.
Zeiss No. 1 super sharpness and dynamic.
Thanks for sharing! I would definitely love more videos about the system and more comparisons to Leica 🙏❤
awesome thank you! will do!
Jimmy兄好活👍,请问x2d宽容度相比索尼的机器如何?个人拍摄的场景光比极大😂谢谢
@@yuxi2424 我没有试过新的a7r4/r5。 assume和m11的那块一样的话,x2d有不小优势
Hi Jimmy. Do you own the Leica SL2 or SL3? Would love to see you compare the Hasselblad with either one of those two Leicas.
@@johnchan7544 hey sorry unfortunately I don’t. With the size and weight of the SL system, I don’t see the point of owning one versus the X2D/gfx100s. Let’s assume the SL3 and m11 has similar sensor performance, the Hasselblad outperforms it completely in all aspects of image quality. M system makes sense here since it’s light and the user exp is different.
@@JimmyCheng , thanks for your reply. Can Leica SL lenses be used on X2D with an adapter? Look forward to your review of X2D and M11.
@@johnchan7544SL system is full frame and x2d is medium format. It makes no sense to adapt otherwise you lose out of the benefits of paying extra for medium format
Amazing stuff Jimmy. I have the GFX 100 and somehow the MF sensor just…feels different. Perhaps the lenses are key. AF is getting way better nowadays. Can’t wait for where MF systems would be in a few years. Looking forward to more from you!
@@bathvader yeah the iq of today’s medium format system is simply stunning. I guess it’s the color depth and lens. Because I still much prefer 50mp medium format files over 60mp full frame files.
Nice pics, but to be honest - most of them could have been taken with a smartphone, too. As long as one doesn’t want or need to print big and as long as these pics are just published on some social media platforms, it’s hardly possible to say if a photo is taken with a medium format camera or a smartphone. Given this, it’s absolutely valid to use a medium format camera for personal enjoyment, but on the internet only very few people will see a difference.
@@axelkeuchel5728 true. But you’ll see a huge difference on a computer screen uncompressed by RUclips. So it’s for personal enjoyment mostly.
@@JimmyCheng That's the reason i use dedicated cameras too! more for personal enjoyment as I hardly even use social media much anyway
What leather strap is on your m6? Beautiful!
@@mogencheng3829 thanks, yeah they’re beautiful especially the brown leather ones. I have them custom made by a friend.
@@JimmyCheng It's gorgeous! I actually spent like the past hour trying to look for something similar but there's nothing on the market. If possible, I would love to inquire about having a strap commissioned by your friend.
@@mogencheng3829 sure I’ll ask him if he’s still making these. I got them quite a while back.
Nice review, looking forward to the M11/X2D comparison.
My dream digital camera would be an x2d with a rangefinder, kind of like a digital Mamiya 7
@@javixo1997 yeah that’ll be awesome! I would love to have a sub 700gram medium Format camera.
Fantastic review as always Jimmy. I agree with you that the images produced by the X2D system really are unparalleled. However, the fact that I had to wait for half a year for 90V, another half for my 38V is a pretty frustrating experience, to say the least. There are also quite a bit of QC issues with the earlier patches of X2D such as too much wiggle room on the lens mount etc.
Finally jimmy, been waiting for your takes on x2d as a frank said, you got ur hands on her already 😀
Great camera, if you could only get lenses for it. Can you say BACKORDERED! 🙄
Have you adapted M lenses on the X2D?
yep, I've used the 35apo on the x2d.
@@JimmyChengCan you please elaborate on your experience with that combo? I guess I had never thought about trying to adapt my M lenses because of the combination of their smaller image circle and the electronic shutter.
@@mjlamott you can get away with xpan mode for some lenses. Others you need to probably do a 1:1 ratio. Plus the fact that you only have e shutter, I don’t think it’s worth it. Gfx is a better system for that.
@@JimmyCheng well, did you like it ? Too much vignette? Can you comment?
@@drwatsonismine no I don’t enjoy adapting on the X2D. Much less so than gfx systems

3:29 Zeiss F2.4 VS Leica F2.0 ???
all Leica manual lenses without digital contact won't have aperture info in LR, so it was a wild guess by LR (and usually they are wrong)
Another great review and looking forward to the 50/2.2 review also. Thanks Jimmy
just a friendly reminder, Jimmy, you don't have to put English subtitles, and if you're considering your Chinese audiences, you can input the Chinese subtitles into the cc. Too much text on the screen
Something that wasn’t mentioned in your review was the shape of the apertures of both lenses. Because some of these lenses have very rounded apertures where others have straight blades, which makes them hexagonal in their out of focus highlights which can be really distracting. Can say here how they compare? Nice review by the way, it’s nice to see actual comparisons from lens to lens instead of just commenting on which is nicer or better according to your opinion. By the way, nice Rollei 2.8F I had the 3.5F for many years and I just sold it. But I loved owning it for all those years and I still have some great pictures from it.Regards Gerry
@@gerryhardman9060 thanks for the details!
I have this lens on my M4-P, guess I'll hold off on that Leica lens for a couple years! My wallet thanks you
would love to see a comparison between the Zeiss Planar 50 and a recent Summicron
@@PerseusPure I’ve done a review between the planar and the latest cron, feel free to check it out
Glad you reviewed this, having seen your other 35mm M mount reviews. I still remember being so amazed by my friend's 35 Biogon when I used it on his Ricoh GXR over 10 years ago, and it's also why my first lens after getting an M240 was the 50/2 Planar. I was curious on your thoughts about it for the longest time as well compared to the other 35 crons, as I was planning to upgrade to it from my 7art 35/2 Sonnar. Funny enough, I recently got good deals on both the Voigtlander 35/2.5 Color-Skopar C AND the 35/1.2 Nokton III just shortly before this came out, so I guess a third 35mm would already be a little superfluous lol
I really appreciate your reviews. Simple, nicely made and informative
@@webersteve1547 thank you so much for your kind words
This was pretty much my thought process when deciding whether or not to buy the Mamiya 7. There's no way I can afford all of those at the same time lol so I had to choose only one. Had a tough time deciding between the "cheap" but bulky and heavy Pentax 67 or the much more expensive but compact and lightweight Mamiya 7. I decided that it wouldn't make any sense to buy a camera that I won't take out because it's too heavy and big to carry around, so I went with the Mamiya. Beautiful camera, incredible lenses
