Awesome video! Worth noting that the "label" (for the FPLA, not the fire safety) that has to include everything doesn't have to be literally on the jar so long as it's on whatever will be displayed to the consumer at the point of sale. For instance, if you had a naked jar (no sticker) and sold it in a BOX, the box would kind of serve as the label in this case (called the Principal Display Panel in their legal nonsense). From FPLA 500.2: “The term label means any written, printed, or graphic matter affixed to or appearing upon any consumer commodity or affixed to or appearing upon a package containing any consumer commodity; except that…” ...calling out that it has to be affixed to or appearing upon a package containing any consumer commodity. Unfortunately, the box you ship it in doesn't count for that, it would have to be something that's obviously part of what you're selling. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for the note! I was wondering if it was ok to display all the legal infos on the warning sticker at the bottom of the jar in order not to ruin the aesthetic. Awesome video Erica thank you so much!
Thanks for sharing the information. I will be having most of my candle information on the candle box and not on the candle itself. As I want to have a clean look.
They can sue me if they want. There is no way that I am going to be handing out my home address to everyone on the internet. That was clearly a rule made by men, no female presenting person would make that rule. I will gladly abide by every other rule but i wont be listing my full home address anywhere
Don't know how hatred of men has anything to do with protecting our privacy. I am a man and I sure as heck don't want strangers knowing where I live. No need for gender studies BS.
That’s something I think regulations should change as far as home based business because all people are ok out here. It’s scary that a person can have your home address 😩
I worry about this too. I can't wait to get to a point where I can afford a specific off-site area or rent a micro studio and have a separate place of operation, that way my personal info isn't just floating out there. #Dreaming#Believing.

I read that if you have a website for your candle business that is findable by Google search you can place your address on company on there instead of the candle. Memory Box Candle Co thank you, I will! Love your videos by the way and I hope that when I start my candle business I can be a source of information like you are. You have been a amazing help in my research journey 😁
I'm wondering if you have a DBA or LLC, which is public information, does that mean you can omit your full street address (such as your home)? Technically, I believe so.
I would like to know what a legal professional would say about the address requirement if you are running your business out of your home. There would be absolutely no way I would give any clue on the product label regarding my home address--city and state of manufacture only. There are family security issues at play here. The unanswered question is what would be the penalty for non-compliance.
These are so great! Thank you! I want to make my candles artsy by adding dry flowers or seashells or glitter. It all depends on the theme. I have no idea what is safe to add to a candle as decor. Hi Erica! So if you’re making your candles at home, are you still required to put your home address on the candle? Also if you don’t decide to put it on there what could happen to you?
God stuff! I saw somewhere that the type of paper or material used for the label is also important/regulated. I used to make my own but now just buy in bulk.
geraldine pearson I purchase bulk labels from Candle Science but you can get them at General Wax, Cali Candle Supply or most other candle suppliers. (Some even have some with blank spaces for you to write in your scent name if you don’t have a scent label) I’d love to do personalized ones again like I used to but I heard something about a certain size font and label material needing to be used for regulation standards. She never got back to me but I’m sure there’s something out there. I’ll reply here when i research. But for now bulk are totally fine if you like.
Hello Erica I am a woman who is in the researching process of making candles and wanting to start a business. So could you explain the part of your address being listed on the label? I am not too pleased with adding my home address on the label in this day in time. Thank you for this informative video.
I live in Dominican Republic, and my candles are made by there, but, I have a virtual address in Miami where I receive my packages from differente countries and cities and the packages are dispatch to my home adress, can I add this virtual address on my labeling?
Great video!! I also have an etsy shop and I recently added candle and succulent gift boxes. I love your labels. Do you outsource to print them or do you have a printer that you print them at home? I've been looking at upgrading my labels and love your style. But I want to be able to change my message on the label but not carry a ton of inventory. So I'm looking at being able to print at home.
Memory Box Candle Co what printer do you have? I have a nice printer but didn’t know if I should invest in a new printer for labels or just find some waterproof labels to print on.

Thanks for the information. Great video. Questions, I’m reading the info provided but I’m a little unclear would these regulations also apply to wax melts/tarts ?
Thank you for this video! 💕 Can all the info be put on the bottom of the candle? For example, I just wanted to put a picture or logo on my candle (didn’t want a “label”). Or does it have to go on the side of the candle?
So if I am understanding this correct when it comes to the address you could leave it out if it's listed on your llc with your state because it said including but not limited to a data?
No from what I’ve seen, all suppliers have the 3 required statements on their warning labels ❤️ (I don’t think adding the symbols are a necessity, I just want to add them to mine!)
So do you measure the weight of the candle after its dried and in the container? Or do you measure it when it's melted before you put it in the container?
A couple questions...1. So you dont have to put your actual address. Example 6734 Firewood St. 2. Say your fragrance you purchase from a store says ocean breeze, can you change the name when your selling them or would that be illegal or against the rules?
You have to put whatever address where you are manufacturing the candle at. And yes you can change the name! I never use the same name as the bottle :)
what if we came up with a name for our candles but haven't registered it as an actual business name because we sell so little? Then can we put that on our candle as the name of the company?
Is this for a home business or a commercial business? I have seen many candle companies on Etsy that have simple handwritten labels that just state what the scent is. They seem to be OK.
I don’t believe there is a distinguished difference, if you are selling a consumer good (no matter where it’s being manufactured) you have to abide by these requirements. And yes I know I’ve seen a lot of Etsy sellers who don’t have these requirements on their candles. It’s kind of on each individual on whether or not they want to play a legal game of “will I get caught”. I would prefer to just follow the legal requirements and not worry 😅
Memory Box Candle Co uhhhh I already printed all my labels!!!! That’s OK, I think I’ll stick with the labels I have for the first round of candles and will adjust for the next ones I print.
