That is 100% right and how Mike is doing his stuff since the beginning. Multiple takes, taking the ones he likes, because "I never play the same thing exactly the same way again!"
Well I'm assuming you never saw this DVD with the commentary. So here it goes... He said that this was actually one of the first time he played this song front to back (this DVD was recorded literally after they have finished recording the album). And he stated that he realized that he couldn't play in its entirety because it was written in pieces and recorded in pieces too. So they had to record it for the DVD in pieces too and you can clearly see he messes up in a lot of parts. When he releases the drum dvds for the albums, yes, it's all pieces from different takes chosen and glued. Other than that I don't think he does that... In his DVD in constant motion all the music he plays is one take. I mean he probably did a lot of takes but you don't see nothing glued. He used the best take for the DVD
@@victorherrero4790 Just because they don't take requests doesn't mean they can't play this. I bet they can. By mainstream I assume you're talking about a touring drummer. Yeah, not impossible. They are professional at that point.
@@mattjwatson5089 I bet you that Lars Ulric, Nick Menza ( RIP) , Dave Grohl, Matt Sorum could not playey it live with the rest of the band...that was my point.

I love shit like this. I find it a blast to watch the dynamics of the footwork. I'd could watch the making of an entire CD and watch only footwork. What a master. My favorite DT instrumental off my favorite DT LP
If you look closely in the middle right past the throne you can kinda see the pedal that operated the snare strainer on this snare.
Amazing left foot work

Flávio Ponte I haven’t seen the DVD. I did not know that. That’s for educating me.
and you didn't notice the cuts earlier lol
Look the left pedal at 0:49
Thank you mike! This has given me a whole new inspiration on dance of Eternity for drums
Damn....that throne height!
When he switched to 22 inch kicks for Octavarium he lowered the throne height
There is a say: "If you can play Dance of Eternity" you can play anything on drums... . Its amazing his left foot work..
I love mike and all his work but this definitely would not prepare you for some extreme buddy rich swing
A couple years on a kit most can play this. Pretty straightforward with the other instruments.

E não é que voltou?
3:44 to 4:05 So funny LOL

Looks so easy by watching just the foot cam but its so much harder
He sits so damn high!!!
Good posture. That is how you are supposed to sit especially for hard double bass players

Should see how much higher he used to sit back in the images and words/awake era

He is using 1st Generation Iron Cobras for bass drums and hihat. and DW5000 remote hihat pedal

There's really nothing in DT's discography that needs direct drive pedals, and as far as I know, neither Portnoy nor Mangini have ever used them.
