Playing My FIRST Fire Emblem (Path Of Radiance Retrospective)

Path of Radiance made the leap to 3D in a first for the FE series, and while its visuals may be lacking, it's so fun I hardly noticed.
Developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance came to GameCube in 2005 worldwide. It has never been re-released.

Welcome to Fire Emblem. It's crazy you started with Path of Radiance. The Radiance games are generally considered to be the best overall within the fanbase. Consistently top 3 in polls made by fans. I haven't played those 2, so can't really say much personally. I have played the rest of them though, they tend to be really solid experiences. Gameplaywise the GBA games do it for me the most. I've attempted to ironman (no reset run>units stay dead) fe8 at least 5 times for reference and those battle animations are timeless. If you're looking for genuineley good games, FE Genealogy of the Holy War (FE4) for the super famicom and Shadows of Valentia for the 3DS come to mind. The gameplay on those is divisive. since those were very experimental titles. Shadows of Valentia is an exceptional remake of Fire Emblem Gaiden (FE2) and Genealogy is such an absolute gem of a game that it's a crime it never got localised: it sits comfortably among the very best of its generation if you ask me. However. since you've started with Ike's game you're on track to play Radiant Dawn, which is a game that I've played a bit and was surprised at how tight the gameplay was. (my friends got it for me for my birthday but I had to bar myself from playing since I still have to play PoR). Also, it's funny to me how you have understood one of the main fundamentals of fe: Movement is King and flying units are first class citizens. It took me a while to realise that, but you seem to have gotten it really quickly. Anyways enjoy yourself!

Shadows of Valentina is peak Fire Emblem. Kaga's gameplay + qol improvements + the writing team that made 3 Houses = Best FE game ever.

It's nice hearing the opinion of a Fire Emblem fan that became a fan more recently compared to old fans. It might be different now but I remember years ago alot of older fans developed a weird narcissism around permadeath when functionally reloading a save and just having the character not die when defeated are the same lol.
Games are fun and these more relaxed takes on the series make it way more appealing to me. Now I want to play this one... Legally of course on real hardware and not on any sort of application named after an aquatic mammal... XD

I highly recommend it and especially Radiant Dawn.
Luckily, I bought all the classic Gamecube games back in the day, so this is one of the few older RPGs I actually played on real hardware :)
