Do you plan to dye your gray hair, or leave it natural? Or, do you plan to do like me and leave it as long as possible then possibly dye it?! Don't forget to check out the blog post for a summary of all the tips: genamarie.co/2021/05/how-to-manage-gray-curly-hair/
I am considering putting some dye on my hair only because now my red hair looks a bit washed out. but im scared to dye it because i dont want to damage my hair or mess with my curls. do you think dye would mess with my curl pattern ? i want to do a demi dye in a red color. I am 50 now. Gena Thank you so much for your video's
I’ve never dyed my hair and I have a lot of grays coming in. I always thought about dying it but idk I’ve gone this long without dying it so might as well just let it stay natural.
Would love to see a video about specific products for gray hair and also hear you discuss products that can help with shine. I feel like for gray hair to look healthy it needs to have some shine.
I got my first gray at 17 (genetics). I’ll be 37 this year. My hair is at least 75% gray now. After dying it for most of my adult life, I buzzed it all of Thanksgiving of 2019. It surprised the heck out of me, it grew back wavy/curly! It’s been so fun learning how to take care of it and styling it. Your channel and a few others have been really helpful to me on this journey. Thanks for making this video!
I really appreciate this video- I’ve let all my gray grow out and you’re absolutely right about it being a different texture. This is the first video I’ve seen that specifically addresses gray curls/waves. There definitely needs to be more! My hair is way more gray than yours (I’m 53) and it’s type 2c and fine, but I still got some helpful tips from this video. So great that you addressed gray curls!
Check out @everythingbutthecurl on Instagram. She has coarse, curly hair and is very entertaining also. She’s also very helpful and responsive if you message her.
Not sure if you can tell but I’m 50 and I have a lot of gray hair. I stopped coloring a few years ago and people ask me all the time if I highlight my hair 🤷🏻♀️I love it now!
Yes! I feel like the main reason people associate gray hair with being old is that people dye their hair to hide the grays for most of their adult life. If people stopped dying their hair, we would see people of all ages with gray hair. I know someone who started going gray at 13 years old!
I started embracing my curls AND gray about 4 years ago. It turned out to be a big journey to self acceptance. I actually love it now, but I have to accept it is harder to care for down here in Florida! I'm learning all the time. Thank you so much for this video, it's nice to see this topic! Edit: my mother started graying early, at 18. Definitely a family trait on that side, but her hair is bone straight. My father's family is the curly side, and his family has a little bit of graying early. I'm 49 and about 1/3 to 1/2.
I am one of the thousands of ladies that have given up on coloring sense COVID. Also being a curly girl this is so much healthier for my hair I am shocked how healthy my hair is now I think 3 more trims and all dye will be gone. No looking back!
I was born with a few grey hairs, and in my teens, it became more than just a few, at this point, I started to box dye, then henna, it was crazy, and done this for a long time!!! Last year I decided to shave off my hair, and start from zero!!! Could not be more happier with the decision!! I'm now dye free, hair is salt and pepper and this will be my hair colour from now onwards!!!
Thank you for this 💕 I am two years dye free and embracing my curls. My gray hair definitely behaves different it was interesting to hear that porosity can also change with gray hair. Accepting gray hair is a self acceptance journey I feel more content with myself now, people shouldn't judge age and youthfulness by the colour of your hair 💖
Yasssss gurlll!!! Finally a video about gray curly hair!!! Thank you!! There are other gray curly girls but none really share how they care for their hair!!
I just want to say thank you! Thank you so much for talking about gray/silver curly hair. I have been searching to find a curly girl that actually talks about gray/silver and how to manage it. I have been transitioning to gray/silver since 2017 and now i am fully there. My hair used to have beautiful curls and now I am beginning the curly transition journey as my gray/silver hair is not curly but coarse and wire like. I have been indulging in all your videos! You explain everything so well including products! I have been using Curlsmith and no one explains the products like you and or how to combine them! I could be wrong on this but i have watched so many videos and yours really resonate with me and i understand better! Thank you again! I will continue to watch your videos and read your blog even tho my hair is a freak of nature at the moment (lol) i am not going to lie i do love it!
OMG I love you for this video!!! 😭😭😭😭 I absolutely don't mind my gray hairs, it's just that they tend to be straight and I have been struggling to get them to curl. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
The video I didn't know I needed! I've been going gray since my early 20s - told it's hereditary, and my mom and grandma have the most gorgeous, silver, non-brassy hair so while I've always looked forward to it, I've really started to worry about losing my curl pattern. Especially over the last several years since I've been so committed to hair and specifically curl-health, I've noticed the looseness in my silvers. I'm so happy to hear that I can teach my grays to curl again! Thank you so much as always for a great video, I love and appreciate all the research you do so that you can share so much info with us. Thank you Gena!!
Ciao Gena, I do have spare gray hair also, I am actually 52 so I consider myself lucky because I started a few years ago and the process is very slow. I am not dying them at the moment, I have the memory of my grandmother, same wavy hair with a few gray. I think curly or wavy hair better hide the gray compare to straight hair. I agree with you regarding behavior, they tend to frizz more and they look thicker than the others.
I got an occasional gray hair here and there when I was in my teens and 20s. I really started noticing them when I was 36. I’m 50 now and I’m still only at 10% or so. But I’m not covering them up because my natural hair color is medium brown and I would constantly be touching them up. In addition, I consider them my “Wisdom Highlights!”
I am 64 years young and I had my first grey hair at 15 years old! I died my hair up until about 8 years ago and then decided to embrace my grey hair. I have fine, medium density, low porosity hair. I have long silver curls that I get more compliments on than when I coloured my hair. I use the Matrix purple hair masque that helps keep the silver, silver.
I didn't start getting lots of gray hair til age 43 when I went on methotrexate. On initial high dose I lost about 1/3 of my hair (med side effect) and then it grayed very quickly after that. Been on methotrexate ever since and I KNOW that was the cause of my accelerated graying (57 now). I used to get it colored by my stylist but got sick of paying so much and taking up half my day so do it myself now every 5 weeks. I use Age Beautiful from Sally's and I really like it. I only paint the roots and then put the rest through my whole head for the last 5 minutes. I don't really like doing it myself but much cheaper. After showering I immediately put on my Turbi Twist towel, then a bun to get it nice and flat to work with the next day, otherwise impossible. One good thing about curly hair is the gray is able to be hidden much longer by the lift curls give you. Even with dark brown hair curls hide gray much longer than straight, flat hair IMO.
The Behairful brush is a curly girl's dream, esp. when detangling! I don't use it to style because I add my leave in and gel on soaking wet hair, then plop with my turbie twist for about 15 mins. After microplopping, I will then add a curl cream and another gel in case some products get removed.
Girl!!! I’m not sure how I missed this video when it came out! But I needed this for sure. My hair started to turn grey about a year ago (I’m early 30s) and I’ve been riding the struggle bus trying to tame and train the grey hair. Thank you
Great video with excellent tips. Thank you. Im a curly gal and I've had to color my hair since age 14 due to gray hair. I'm 58 now, and have been transitioning completely for the past 2 years. Things I've found out during full transition are to make sure any conditioning masks you're using are completely clear or completely white because even the smallest hint of a yellow tone, etc. will change the color of your hair. It will wash out after a few washes, but it's a royal pain waiting for that to happen. I actually turned my hair green using a mixture of oils because I had a small amount of olive oil in it. Curling and straightening irons should only be used on the lowest settings with a good heat protector spray because those too will discolor completely gray/white hair. Lol It's been a learning experience for sure, but I'm never going back to hair color again. I hope my extra tips keeps someone else from having to learn the hard way.
A couple of things: I have individual hairs that have changed from dark brown to gray so yes, the color can turn off at some point. It's not just new hairs that are gray. Demi and semi permanent hair dye did not cover my grays. It just made them a weird blonde color. I've stopped coloring and I don't plan to dye my hair anymore. I love the silver color that is coming in. I still have a lot of dark hair which turns reddish brown on the ends. It's funny when I put hair up and see the contrast of ends to roots. It's lot more subtle when it's all down. My hair is pretty long.
That is exactly me as well! If I part my hair down the center you can't see the gray stripes at my temples but if I parted to the side it's flashing white. But the rest of my hair is very salt-and-pepper. Dark brown and then silver threads and orange brown in the old area that used to be colored. I'm about six months into my grow out.
I have had naturally blond hair since 2 years of age, but at about 40 it was getting a little mousey so I began to lighten it. A year ago was my last color, so now my grey is growing in. It's not really very gray at all, but a cool taupe except right at my forehead I have a nice silver streak. I wish more of it was silver, but inspire
I’m going back to my natural color (light brown) after abusing it and dying it for many years. Luckily my hairdresser said my hair is healthy so I don’t have to do a big chop. Once I go gray, I’m going to accept it. I’ll just start using purple shampoo and whatnot
Thank god I found this video. I relate to it so much. My hair has similar grays like yours and I'm 27 this year. It was stressing me out. I am thinking what to do.
I'm so glad to see this video! I've been graying since I was 19, and now that the back of my head is almost all gray I'm struggling to style it. The areas that are more brown style well, and I'll definitely try these tips on the gray sections.... which is most of my hair at this point lol.
Wow you know your stuff! And so true regarding gray hair....dry and brittle. I have to up my moisture regimen for sure. Prepoo, wash and deep condition every week.
Starting to see quite a bit of grays myself, but I am 41 so it was bound to happen. Really want to color my hair, but it's so expensive....plus you'd need to do it every 4-6 weeks. 😣
Thank you Gena for this video! I have tight fine curls and am starting to get grays all over my head and it has been a challenge to care for my hair. And you're right. It's hard to find info on caring for gray curly hair. Thanks for all this info! Also not planning on coloring it at this point. All the chemicals scare me.
I started graying at probably 21-22, I’m 25 now and have some patches. I do plan to let them be mostly natural as starting to dye grays at my age is just way too much. I ended up getting highlights to just help them blend since my hair is so dark. Obviously bleach damage but my hair was totally virgin and extremely low porosity so I just took that risk and love it. It’s definitely genetic my mom is blonde so she isn’t sure when she started graying but my great grandmother had fully white hair in her 30s so 🤷🏻♀️
I’m 30 and probably at about 20% grey. It’s very noticeable, but I’ve never been one for hiding them. I’ve kind of just accepted them as they’ve grown in (starting since I was 18). I’ve definitely found that my hair texture has changed and my curly hair process has changed over the years for sure. I have hair texture I think pretty similar to you., my hair isn’t as curly, but I have high porosity hair and a medium to low density. Pretty sure my hair greying early is genetics (and probably some added stress). A lot of my dad’s cousins went grey early. May hair color is also very similar to yours as well.
Thank you SO much for this video. I’ve been trying to get a handle on my pretty well established grays. I also wanted to thank you for mentioning how hypothyroidism can impact things. I’ve been sprouting my grays since 25, BUT I had full blown Hashimoto’s Hypothyroidism at 18. So, makes sense. I believe this is also the reason for my hair being naturally high porosity, rather than medium. Who knows, maybe adding the pre-poo oil might help heal my hair as it grows. So much scalp skin and hair follicle science to learn. Cheers to rocking our “Wisdom-Highlights”!!!🥰🤗
I’m 45 and have large patches of gray hair…I also have damaged hair because of coloring and heat also because of IUD… it fell off and I had to cut it off up too my chin. Now I’m starting again… Even if I have thin , fine dry frizzy hair and gray it has a lot of volume…a lot😂 I feel I need more products for course hair. So I use balms coconut and hibiscus like for type 3-4 hair and my hair loves it. I use the brand Shea Moisture 😊
I could cry! 😭 This video has been so helpful to me. I have all the hair types you mentioned in this video. I have very very damaged hair from having black dye stripped from my hair back in October. I had to lose length when it happened and it has brought me to transitioning back to my natural curls. Which I might add is a whole different texture than I thought I had! Plus I have grey hair and have always had it touched up with permanent color. I have hard water in my home and I really need to look into a shampoo that can clean this build up.
I am 40 and I am about 90Percent silver. I am 1.5 years of dye free. I was finding hair dye was damaging my hair. Grey coarse hair just wouldn't deal well with the dye and now I love the grey curls.
I’ve haven’t covered my grays just yet so don’t know how it works. Forgive me if this sounds stupid but isn’t pigment only hair dye non-damaging? I thought it was only when you bleach your hair that it causes damage because you’re removing pigment. If so, now I’m scared to cover my grays
@@itsmimi3154 yes, you are right, bleach is the most damaging. Most stylest say only bleach damages your hair and coloring doesn't. I don't think you need to be worried about covering your greys, I think it depends on your hair. My hair is very coarse and dry to begin with but with grey hair, it is very, very dry and constantly needs moisturizing and dying affected the quality of my hair. But for me, I started getting grey hair when I was around 14 and have progressed over the years and now i am forty and i am fully grey. I started coloring my hair dark brown as a teen and have been coloring that color for years without any problems and it looked healthy. but the past five years, when i became almost fully grey (over 90% grey). I noticed my hair didn't look healthy anymore and my hair wouldn't curl after coloring and it would take a few weeks to get it back to normal after dying and then once my roots starting to show, I was repeating the cycle all over again by dying it. I got tired of constantly fighting this battle and finally, I embraced my grey and it has been much healthier. But everyone is different, I know some people dye their hair and they are fully grey and have healthy hair and don't have any problems dying it. But for me, the past few years, my grey hair just didn't like the dye. I think you just have to follow your own instinct and what works best for your hair. Everyone has a different hair type and you just have to know what works best for you..
Castor Oil seems to help my graying, damaged hair to not only grow but also thicken up in my wings. It is quite thick and heavy so only do it on the holidays or before washing, but the longer I have left the castor oil in the better I've noticed my hair is. I also want to try sulfur soap as a way to help properly clean the scalp and help my hair grow. My curls when dry bounce up about 2 inches so getting some length and then I can cut out the damage in one go, let it grow again and another cut. Grandma went gray at 19. I only noticed when my cousin asked me, I was 26 lol. Now, while I've still got a lot of colour damage my natural and gray is growing out and I've had a lot of compliments when I go out about my hair so I'm growing in confidence to not colour and just let my hair be.
Hi Gena, I have completey grey curls. I am a 2c / 3a /3b, long grey and went grey at 27 (I am 47 now). I died my hair for 17 years and 3 years ago decided to stop the dye and start the curly girl method. I am over 80% grey with a mix of really white, silver and salt and pepper. I found no resources for grey hair and curls when I was transitioning to grey. For me personally, my curl patterns has been pretty consistent in the grow out - I did have some antennae greys that stuck straight up, but they have settled.
I’m 50 and about 40% gray but haven’t embraced it yet...so I am still dyeing my hair and have been for about 10 years. With Covid I had to learn to dye my own hair but thankfully my previous hairdresser gave me some great tips on color and products to buy. However.... I really wish I had known about semi or Demi permanent dye back when I started dyeing my hair. I really would like to switch to this but I don’t think I can without a major chop. Still researching this. One thing I’m hopeful about is that my color fades a lot in 4-5 weeks. I definitely show gray roots but they sort of blend into the hair so maybe a demi permanent is possible. For root touch ups, I have tried the L’Oréal spray and you are right. It builds up on your hair and scalp and feels gross (drying and producty). I have sprayed it in a small dish and then brushed it in with a makeup brush...this worked better but it is still messy. Also, it gets all over your hands any times you touch your hair. I prefer the Everpro root touch up stick. It is more like a waxy/cream stick but does not feel as producty. I still use a makeup brush to blend it in. I also swipe it up in streaks...leaving some of the gray hairs with less coverage and that gives it more dimension. Not perfect but it helps.
Thanks for the video! I have similar hair to you, and when I'd had enough with greys, I did extensive research into healthy options for colouring. Dying destroys hair, as we know...plus so many dark hair dyes have lead...yes lead! I have been using Light Mountain Henna, organic, dark brown monthly for almost seven years now. They have a grey cover up option that is a two step system with cassia. I didn't want to do this, and have found that while my dark brown hair is not uniform, the greys simply take on the look of natural highlights...auburn, dark reddish, browns, caramels. Everyone thinks I just have wonderful highlights, and henna is both safe for your health and safe for our waterways. It also does not damage hair, which was big for me as I too grew up terrible damage and have tailbone length slow growing hair. Good luck. M
I got my first gray hair at 19. I’m 64 today, and am 90% gray. I color my hair. I’ve been embarrassing my curls for 4 months. But I find it makes my face look fat, whereas, when I straighten it, a lot thinner.
Like others here, I have been looking for this video! You’re certainly correct about those grays being so unruly and hard to care for. Great advice about not pulling them out so as not to damage the follicle. And knowing that they will develop their curl pattern as they get longer is a huge encouragement for me. My hair became curly after going through chemotherapy, so I had zero experience with curls, especially gray ones! I have learned a lot from your videos. I tried the Behairful brush on your recommendation and I LOVE it! I really appreciate all the detailed research and recommendations on ingredients , also. Keep up the good work! 💓💓💓
This was very helpful Gena. My grays are wirey and they don't curl much...very frizzy too. It took me over 2 years to grow out my color and I hate the frizz but really don't want to back to coloring. We'll see. More research for me.
I’ve never dyed my hair, I’m 32 now and have plenty greys. I’ve wanted to dye it but fear of damage has kept me back. Now watching this video I don’t even know if I should. I thought, I’ve kept it healthy this long and it’s gonna be grey in a couple years so might as well but now I think oh my gosh I don’t want to damage and then end up with horrid grey hair that doesn’t even curl later on.
I am 63 and have only started to find grey hairs the last couple of years. I am a natural dark blonde, and the silver hairs don’t look as nice as if my hair was darker. Soooo, I plan on getting highlights for the foreseeable future.
I am 34 (male) with long 3a/b hair and I am already about 50% white if not more (my beard is going white too)! I got my first white hair at 13, definitely genetic from my mother's side. I also noticed a different consistency but it's hard to tell, because part of my natural hair is already kinky like the one you showed, definitely being very grey I did not go particularly straight. I have a relatively high level of frizz, but that's natural exactly because my hair is already kinky and it was before greying, but the white hair does feel coarser than the rest. Btw, I think that if you embrace it now, as it becomes more and more grey it will actually improve, especially if you get patches and stripes which can create cool effects. I would never dye my hair! I do use a chelating and a purple shampoo to avoid it going yellow-ish... Edit: I deep condition a lot, but I also use a lot of protein even though my hair is naturally coarse. It's really subjective I guess
My hair is completely grey, I am 57 years old. My hair is way more curley when it is wet than when it is dry. I just started this curley Girl journey. I do all the conditioning and healthy hair products and air drying etc. Why does my hair straighten out as it dries??? I SCRUNCH and use gel?
Happy Sunday Gina Marie.. At 53 I'm overwhelmed with gray hair..... In time I plan to use a natural brown to cover these Gray's .. I use mascara to cover gray... 😬 YIKES ... Thank you for the post as well informed products... Sincerely Tee Jay
Me too! Works well till you get caught in the rain. :) I use organic henna to cover the greys. If you're curious, have a look at my thoughts in the comments section. Cheers, M
Yay! We’re talking about gray hair! I have about 50-50 super curly mouse-pelt gray hair ... or it used to be. Used overtone brown on it, which turned my white hairs orange, then sort of plum. Sigh. It’ll wash out eventually.
I know this video is a year old, but I’m currently in hair dye remorse. I’m 37 and get a thick patch in my part. I’ve only been doing semi-curly girl for three weeks, and was very hesitant to touch up the gray. Well, I went ahead and put on my regular warm medium brown by Revlon. My 2C, 2A hair is very upset with me. I’ve had the worst hair days since.
I’m a natural redhead and have been using henna to cover the white hairs, but there’s quite a lot coming in lately now that I’m 50 yo. Is your mom getting white hairs or what color are her grays?
I stopped coloring at 40, at 42 I'm fully gray now and don't mind at all but I've got the gray, fine, curly hair that NO ONE talks about. Most hair products are for thick, course hair. I wash every day from product overload and my curls disappear overnight, no idea what happens. My IG is "ungracefullygray" in case you're curious. I'm private so you'd need to request to see what I'm talking about. 😁
People used to remark on how young I looked and then I let my gray (50%) hair grow out and now everybody treats me like I'm too fragile to lift even 10 lbs. Doubt I aged that much in 5 years so I'm guessing it's the hair.
I'm really desperate with my gray hair. I started going gray when I was 13, and in a few years I'll be 40 so you can imagine that my hair is not a strand of gray. It's gray, all the way. I've always dyed my hair, and I don't plan on stopping. I don't think gray works well with my coloring, light hair tends to wash me out, and I like the color I've managed to get with dyes. Since starting CGM, nothing, literally nothing, has worked for my hair. It's always frizzy, it's always heavy, it's always varying degrees of awful. Any glimpse of hope, nice curl clumps in the shower, a single bouncy curl, is viciously crushed soon after -- clumps fall apart, curls won't keep overnight (yes I do all the things to preserve them), root volume falls flat, hair frizzes. I can't figure it out. Many years ago I started using the John Frida hot air brush specifically for this reason, it was the only way to get my hair to actually not look like garbage. I've been pixie diffusing so far, yes turning off the blow dried between sections, cold/warm air, all the things --- it doesn't help. I want to tear my hair out, this process makes me hate it so much.
I am very confused about what products I should be using. My hair is gray but I dye it and it is dry and brittle. I thought that because of this my hair had high porosity but when I did the water test it stayed floating and water beaded on the strand. So now I am utterly confused as to what to do with my hair. Any tips?
@@GenaMarie I agree. They're all a bit out there for me. But something closer to real hair color would be great to try...avoiding the rain though. Haha
So my gray hairs are much curlier than my regular hair. My Grey's have a S pattern about 1/2 inch. My regular hair has maybe 1 large S over 5-6 inches. Help?
Any tips on how to manage a halo of frizz from my hair going through miniaturization from aging? I've come to turns with it thinning... But not the million crazy fly aways. So frustrated 😩
Many thanks! Great video :) I have noticed the start of gray hair and your tips are very helpful! I just can't figure out my hair porosity. The water test shows low because my strand floats on top. However, my hair shows signs of high porosity such as extreme frizz, dry and tangles so easily. I used to chemically relax my hair so I know that it definitely damaged it. Any recommendations? 😊
The float test is not very accurate unfortunately. I go off of the signs and characteristics. You can also try spritzing your dry, product free, clean hair with water and see if the water droplets bead up soak right it
I find that my scalp gets very itchy when I use a lot of product and even when I refresh it every day .. how do I prevent this but still making my moisture.. I don’t even use the products on my scalp so how does it get itchy.. I apply from ends down so was wondering if I need to try different products to prevent this.. please help..
I’m in my 40s and when that grey comes in it’s aggressive and corse...I’m not ready to embrace the grey just yet...due to Covid I use Garnier Nutrisse followed up immediately with Olaplex or Curl Smith bondcurl with weekly deep conditioning and I see no visible damage with this routine...great video, thank you!
Oh you reminded me I need to do an Olaplex treatment this week. I don’t use it because I’m old and dried up like a prune .... something every influencer wants to tell me .... I actually have tons of oil production even at >50 years of age. I use it because it makes my frizzy lil head a bit softer.
I really wish all these curly products that these influencers talk about, were AVAILABLE in my country!! 😭😭 The only thing available in my country is Cantu. and I'm really not a big fan of this brand :/ AND IT'S SO DAM EXPENSIVE TOO!!
I'm sorry, I'm not sure how to tell which products are available in each country. Do you have Giovanni? I have reviewed their products before and I have heard from my international viewers that they can find this brand in their countries.
@@barbkelly9604 thanks so much!!! I can’t tell you how many times I almost bought the Kinky Curly one but always put it back because I don’t want to spend $18 for yet another hair product I might not like. Can’t wait to try the Cantu Custard.
@@barbkelly9604 I just want to see if my hair likes that type of consistency. I’ve never tried a custard lol. I only use leave in conditioners and occasionally mousse. If my hair likes it then maybe I’ll consider buying the Kinky Curly one.
I couldn't either! I searched forever and no luck with a spray without silicone. The closest mascara I could find was this one, but it does have some waxes but is silicone-free: rstyle.me/+lQW9J4PdESNE9xokRHPRoQ I think the wax would be fine since you wouldn't need a lot of product and as long as you shampoo and clarify every so often. Note, I have not tried this product, just found it when researching today.
Do you plan to dye your gray hair, or leave it natural? Or, do you plan to do like me and leave it as long as possible then possibly dye it?!

I have let mine grow out. It is a challenge since the texture is so different.
I am starting to curl paint on the gray. I have purple, blue, and green. I’m having fun.
Would love to see a video about specific products for gray hair and also hear you discuss products that can help with shine. I feel like for gray hair to look healthy it needs to have some shine.

Glad it was helpful! ❤️❤️
Would love to hear some of the products other silver sisters are using to make their hair shiny and healthy!
Imo silver/gray hair is the most beautiful color there is. Let’s normalize it at every age!
Silver & Curls are stunningly beautiful!
I LOVE mine. . .thankful I embraced my curls & my natural grey/silver hair.
Yay! So glad you found it helpful. Thank you.
The Behairful brush has been game-changing for me to hide them!
Yes and really coarse. Now because I’ve been doing Olaplex once or twice a month I’ve noticed that I can curl the white/gray hair.
Omg I’m 31 and the greys are coming in HARD!! I have decided to roll with it but wasn’t sure how. Thank you for making this video.
I started greying when I was 16. I'm totally grey now and have not dyed my hair in 4? years. I'm 43 now.
I wish you would do a wash day review, showing what products to use (shampoo, conditioner, clearifying shampoo, what brush you use etc)
Have you checked my page? I have tons!
Thank you for doing a video on grey hair. I am 55 years old with grey curly hair. Very informative.
This is really a helpful tip, I'm going to try this method!
Kristin Ess purple shampoo has been great for me as a bleached blonde - it’s pretty potent but I’ve loved it a lot!
I had my first Grey hair when I was in middle school 😳 It’s actually why I first dyed my hair. Grey was definitely not cool back in the day.
I plan to go natural. I think it will be too much for me to dye it every couple of weeks like my mom does. 😍😍🥰🥰
yeah it is a lot of maintenance for sure!
I'm so glad to see this video! I've been graying since I was 19, and now that the back of my head is almost all gray I'm struggling to style it. The areas that are more brown style well, and I'll definitely try these tips on the gray sections.... which is most of my hair at this point lol.
Thank you for this extremely helpful video. You’re right. There’s not much out there for gray curly hair. I was thrilled to find this.
THANK YOU. This is exactly what I have!
Yeah it's a lot to keep up with! When I used to color my hair, I had to go every 6-8 weeks, and it wasn't cheap!
I have embraced the grey! But you are right there isn't a lot of info for care of curly greying hair! TY!
It’s definitely genetic my mom is blonde so she isn’t sure when she started graying but my great grandmother had fully white hair in her 30s so 🤷🏻♀️
use to get mine professionally done for years. Started using Madison Reed over a year ago and it does a great job and doesn't feel like it damages.
I’ve heard that’s a great brand of dye!
Great video with awesome information! Thank you. I'm almost fully transitioned grey and 3 months cgm.
Because my hair is naturally nearly black, I love my gray as it is a natural highlight and makes my curls look better defined, especially in pictures.
Now I’m starting again…
Even if I have thin , fine dry frizzy hair and gray it has a lot of volume…a lot😂 I feel I need more products for course hair.
Check out Olaplex No. 3 if you haven't already! It will help repair your hair: rstyle.me/+VM40vKBK6JDu9nmiMCtwEw
Yeah I have struggled to find a root spray that doesn’t have silicone. The L’Oréal spray does 😔
Nice to see a video focusing on gray hair. More would be great.
Good luck. M
Thank you for sharing that! I will look into Henna for sure once I'm ready to dye my hair again.
@@GenaMarie Great! Please feel free to ask me any questions you might have when the time comes. I've had a lot of trial and error! :p
I got my first gray hair at 19. I’m 64 today, and am 90% gray. I color my hair. I’ve been embarrassing my curls for 4 months. But I find it makes my face look fat, whereas, when I straighten it, a lot thinner.
I’ve been looking for a video like this. Thanks!
Aw thank you!
thank you.. I am full gray and wavy and having a hard time with the moisture and protein balance ...
This was very helpful Gena. My grays are wirey and they don't curl much...very frizzy too. It took me over 2 years to grow out my color and I hate the frizz but really don't want to back to coloring. We'll see. More research for me.
Using the brush to style has helped me the most with the frizz and just making the grays more uniform and blended with the rest.
Yaaaaayyyyy!!! Thanks Gena! I'm seeing more and more greys in my hair, and, my god, they are soooo wild!!!!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching.
@@GenaMarie You're welcome 🤗.. Have a great week...
Thanks for watching!
Just bought the Overtone Chocolate brown color too. I have alot if grays so that's gonna be bad then 😕
@@RB-zp4nm I was contemplat9ng adding some blue to it
@@ashleybach7916 oh ok. Let me know how it turns out.
I would love your thoughts on the Sky Organics line that Walmart carries. 😊
Oh I realized there are silicones ones the shampoo and conditioner but they are very very low on the ingredients list but still there 🤨🥴😬😊
Oh! Yes I really needed this!!! Thank you!!
Mine come out all wiry!!! I have to pull the really crazy ones out !!
I love ❤️ mine I get so many compliments.
I started early as well but waited till June of 2019 to start transitioning it’s taken me almost 2 years
I’m a natural redhead and have been using henna to cover the white hairs, but there’s quite a lot coming in lately now that I’m 50 yo.
I have fine, thick hair that loses all wave overnight so I feel this
Thanks for making this video ❤
Great video! Do you a blunt cut or is it in layers?
I am very confused about what products I should be using. My hair is gray but I dye it and it is dry and brittle. I thought that because of this my hair had high porosity but when I did the water test it stayed floating and water beaded on the strand. So now I am utterly confused as to what to do with my hair. Any tips?
I love your curls
Curlsmith has Hair Makeup which could be fun to try.
I wish they had a brown version! like actual hair colors 🙌🏼
Thoughts on Twist by Ouidad?? I would love to hear your thoughts on how they compare to the more expensive Ouidad products.
I haven’t tried it yet but I’ve been trying to get my hands on some from the brand 😉 hopefully soon!
You can also try spritzing your dry, product free, clean hair with water and see if the water droplets bead up soak right it
@@GenaMarie thanks so much for your reply! I will give that a try 😊

Also me:😮hmm interesting,let s watch
I’m in my 40s and when that grey comes in it’s aggressive and corse...I’m not ready to embrace the grey just yet...due to Covid I use Garnier Nutrisse followed up immediately with Olaplex or Curl Smith bondcurl with weekly deep conditioning and I see no visible damage with this routine...great video, thank you!
Thats great! I meant to mention Olaplex too when coloring and totally forgot!
Oh you reminded me I need to do an Olaplex treatment this week. I don’t use it because I’m old and dried up like a prune .... something every influencer wants to tell me .... I actually have tons of oil production even at >50 years of age. I use it because it makes my frizzy lil head a bit softer.
I love my curly silvers. I have dark brown hair so now I'm salt and pepper...more salt on the top and front.
My gray is so high porosity. The brown that is left is about medium.
Me with my gray hair at 16 🤡 . Thanks Dad this is an awesome feeling 🥲
My curly hair texture is changing as it is becoming hair .i guess it is becoming more wiry and straight .anyone facing similar issue ?
My hair is almost transitioned and is a lot drier and my hair is straighter looser now not as tight
I really wish all these curly products that these influencers talk about, were AVAILABLE in my country!! 😭😭
The only thing available in my country is Cantu. and I'm really not a big fan of this brand :/
AND IT'S SO DAM EXPENSIVE TOO!!
I'm sorry, I'm not sure how to tell which products are available in each country. Do you have Giovanni? I have reviewed their products before and I have heard from my international viewers that they can find this brand in their countries.
@@GenaMarie uhhh lemme check real quick
@@GenaMarie I just checked. We don't have Giovanni but we do have "Kinky Curly". Is it safe to use??
@@GenaMarie we also have DevaCurl
@@GenaMarie Is DevaCurl and KinkyCurly safe to use?
What do you suggest for fine gray hair?
Same tips mentioned here! Focus on moisture but opt for more light weight products for moisture instead of heavy ones.
1st gray at 13.
Wait so gray hair curls differently??
It can! Especially as it first starts to come in, it can be looser.
Does anyone know of a dupe for the Kinky Curly Curling Custard?
Cantu Define and Shine Custard. I found it to be very similar but WAY cheaper.
@@barbkelly9604 thanks so much!!! I can’t tell you how many times I almost bought the Kinky Curly one but always put it back because I don’t want to spend $18 for yet another hair product I might not like. Can’t wait to try the Cantu Custard.
@@itsmimi3154 You're welcome. If you don't like it, at least it's cheap. I liked it just as well.
@@barbkelly9604 I just want to see if my hair likes that type of consistency. I’ve never tried a custard lol. I only use leave in conditioners and occasionally mousse. If my hair likes it then maybe I’ll consider buying the Kinky Curly one.
I think the Mop Top Curly Hair Custard is similar: rstyle.me/+yQwt_Ny5q0pZA0uunqhdzg
And the Curlsmith Souffle: bit.ly/3ahsKji
What shampoos remove hard water?
Here is the most popular one, although I have not tried it: rstyle.me/+ewjGHsvI8iGVND7zzHEZRg
Does anybody know a spray or mascara for covering roots that's cgm friendly? I can't find any
I couldn't either! I searched forever and no luck with a spray without silicone. The closest mascara I could find was this one, but it does have some waxes but is silicone-free: rstyle.me/+lQW9J4PdESNE9xokRHPRoQ
I think the wax would be fine since you wouldn't need a lot of product and as long as you shampoo and clarify every so often.
Note, I have not tried this product, just found it when researching today.
@@GenaMarie thanks for your answer Gena!
