You are fortunate in that your gray hair is very thick. But there are a lot of us out here with gray hair that has thinned considerably. When I went looking for a wig to supplement my head, I was shocked to see that most of the gray styles are short and very aging. Someone needs to tell the wig companies that not all gray-haired ladies are old ladies! Perhaps you can help. It would be great to have options that are shoulder length and curly, with more youthful styling and current cuts in grays. And the grays should not be all silver, either. There are those of us who are rocking salt and pepper!

Hello Nikol, great video as always..I am 74 years old and dying my hair is a real problem for me and has been for awhile..my scalp breaks out in a terrible rash no matter what hair dye I use..I want to go gray pretty gray like so many women have now..But my children and even my grandchildren are not in favor of that idea..Perhaps they don't want to be reminded of how old I really am...However I decided to let my hair go gray naturally no more dye.
Dear Joan, I think you know what you want to do. Your scalp is telling you it is time. Once you embrace it, you will be happy and your children will probably love it. Go for it.
I let mine go grey a few years ago it is white mainly but darker colour at the back. It feels great not having to dye it, so handy! You decide for yourself. It's a big step but get a stylish cut and you will feel fab. Good luck.
At 55 I told my mother who was dying hers an ugly orange that I am going gray gracefully, she tried to talk me out of it. I'm 62 now and mostly gray, she is 84 and to the point she no longer cares at all what she looks like, just embrace your gray people, we earned it!!!
I have silver strands going through my brown hair, but so far they only look like highlights. I am learning everything I can from you to be prepared. I believe you are a great credit to the human race. You seem to care so very much, and I am so grateful. Dot
Thank you for your tips. How I wish I had your hair, it always looks so fantastic! I've always had baby fine hair that has now become thinner, which makes it so hard to style into any way. Curling will literally fall out within an hour, hair spray just weighs it down...so I continue to look for the magic product.
After 5 years of going gray, I never fell in love with it. I wanted to embrace it but I wasn’t as gray as I hoped. Consequently it was just not pretty and I felt drab. I decided I didn’t have to follow the trend and reintroduced color. I kept the gray but added high and low lights. Now it is multi-tonal and much more flattering. I also only wash my hair every 3 - 4 days. Purple shampoo is a must every 3rd or 4th wash. Spot treating with oil is a great recommendation.
My mom is 77 and has been trying to go gray for at least 4 years and in the same boat. She's literally sad about it. We all have to work with what we have. :)
I’ve done almost the same, adding some balayage every four months and regular purple shampoo. My silver strands look like highlights. It makes for a more natural look and one that’s lower maintenance for me.
I have naturally curly hair and I also wanted to let my gray hair come through but it was always a different texture than I was used to The curls were limp and I looked bald I added some brown and even silver highlights Now my hair looks full, healthy and natural I’m 60 and loving it
I went prematurely salt and pepper with dark brown hair and started dying at 27, trying to maintain dark hair. Well that didn’t work, so I dyed medium blond until 62. Fast forward to about a year ago and I went for growing out and cutting out the dye color. What a surprising delight to have beautiful silver white hair under that. I wear a pixie cut, and the color is so much more flattering to my skin tone. I get so many compliments. I love wearing pink, blues and charcoal tops, so stunning to make my white hair a focal point. Yes to purple shampoo. About every 4 washes for me.
I let my hair go gray a few years ago and I love it! My husband actually convinced me to go gray. My hair is long and curly, albeit, now starting to thin. I already use all your tips which keeps my hair healthy. I used to colour my hair blonde once my dark hair became very gray. Hated the constant colouring and the gray roots. So my sister who is a hairstylist coloured my hair gray until it grew out all gray. Really helped in the transition period. I get so many compliments and always get told that I look younger with the gray hair.
I have fine curly hair that is fully gray. I don’t use heat on it at all. So other than using a purple shampoo every so often, I don’t do anything differently than what I did when I dyed my hair. I think my hair is shinier and healthier now. I think the amount of work gray hair needs is unique to each person.
I am mostly gray but my hair grows very quickly. I get a haircut every 4 weeks. I find that my gray hair is easy to take care of. I wash my hair every day and my beautician says my hair is in great shape!
I decided to stop dyeing my hair seven years ago. I had no idea that my hair was mostly white. For about the first three years I used the purple shampoo, primarily because that's what I saw recommended. However, I didn't see any difference in the colour so I stopped using it. I suppose my hair is just naturally pure white with never an issue of the yellowing people seem to complain about. I honestly don't know why I have never had that problem. Perhaps it's related to texture or hereditary tendencies. Either way, I suspect that there is clearly a segment of gray-haired people who never have an issue with brassy or yellow hair.
60 yr old , white long hair ( half way down my back) stopped dying it at 45 and got white full on before 50 , I get a lot of compliments, every day, it is getting thinner now though
I've been highlight and low light free for the last 7 years and love my hair! It's long with layers but I started noticing some yellowing and used a purple shampoo. It seemed to dry out my hair. So after researching further, I learned that apple cider vinegar and water used before shampooing (once a week) worked so well! It is the best detox for my scalp and hair! Leaves it super soft and shiny with bright silver strands!
So helpful. Managing my thick, curly gray hair is definitely a challenge. I've been trying to use my heat tools less and less but sometimes the frizz is just too much.
Janet, I have found that the John Freida Frizz Ease Extra-Strength Serum is a must for frizzy hair. Even if you do not blow dry your hair, when your hair is 80% dry you can run a small amount through your hair. I live in the south and humidity certain times of the year is really bad. I always keep a bottle on hand for those days. The Frizz-Ease can be on Amazon or CVS/Walgreens.
Janet consider argan oil when damp out of shower scrunching but not on scalp. Australia makes a cream oil you could use too if necessary. No fizz and happy hair
@@janetc7232 Or try Aussie Work That Curl serum as its jojoba is a good ingredient. I use it on my hair which is not curly at all, just the odd wave around front.
I enjoy your videos. I went gray a year ago. My gray is your color of gray. I’m 72. I’ve always been a redhead. When I was about 40 I went to Nordstroms and had my colors done. I was told never wear pink or red. Just corals, oranges, peach and browns. So now listening to you, I’m going to try pinks and corals and a little red. I really appreciate your advice. Thank you so much.
this is by far the best video i’ve come across on grey hair, i’ve been on the fence for a long time and decided it’s time to transition - thank you for all the great advice - i had ideas & ?s and you’ve clarified many of them! thank you
Just bumped into one of your shorts and watched them all! You are so beautiful and stylish. You're a great example for me of a woman who shows up for firstly herself and the world! ❤Carry on!
When I went fully silver, I was still using my 2 inch Helen of Troy curling iron that I got in beauty school. The problem is even though I use heat protectant it did scorch it. I also noticed that if I stayed out in the sun, it would turn yellow. So I use sunscreen on my hair when I am out for long periods of time. I love my silver hair and never wanna color it again. I am in the process of looking for the old fashion. Magnetic rollers to make a smoother luck. Love your channel.
I started going very thin in my 60's - I started using ROUTINE shampoo and conditioner - and have seen an improvement - I started in October and it takes time - but this has worked for me - Nikol - thank you for your channel...
Im 57 and made the decision to buzzcut my black dyed hair all off and i absolutely 💯 love it my undergrowth was white and salt n pepper im soo happy with my new look very empowering 😊
Thank you Nikol. I have been gray since the late 90's when I was in my 40's. My hair is fine. Now I live and am in the sun more and have learned that hats are a must to avoid sun damage and yellowing. I no longer use any heat on my hair. I am going to find out if velcro rollers could give me more volume. My husband likes long hair. I like it also however, I did love having a bob similar to yours. I felt so pretty. I love your content and sincerely appreciate all the effort you put into it. Also, I have used the same purple shampoo, Phyto, for many years. It's the best.

Boy did this hit my current topic right. I'm 68 y/o and my hair just keeps falling out, and I need to do something to remedy this. Thank you for this video.
There is a study you can find on line, that proves that rosemary tea and oil are just as good as rogain without the side effects. I am living proof that it works. If the scalp CAN STILL grow hair it is a miracle. It’s much thicker and grows faster now at 66 than it did in my 30’s. I still use rosemary a couple of times a week. The smell is awesome lots of compliments. There are videos on line on how to use. You won’t be disappointed.
I have to use Rogaine, the 5% version. I went almost totally bald on top when I turned 60. I tried for three years to just use supplements, and I got some of it back, but then I had stress and it fell out again. Actually, I waited too long to start the Rogaine, because a lot of my hair follicles died. However, Rogaine helped a lot - I'm not bald anymore. I buy the off brands; I like Kirkland and the Equate Walmart house brand is good, too. About $12/month.
You mentioned your mom has fine hair. So do I. What products do you recommend for fine hair? There are probably things that I can do beyond shampooing and conditioning to help this along. Thank you.
Yes I have incredibly fine hair, the one thing I've found that does help is frequent hair trims and personally, keeping it shorter as the ends tend to break and look stringy.
@@katiedavis5861 I’m going to try Mielle Rosemary Mint Oil for Hair. My hair is fine to begin with, and my widow’s peak is receding so my hair is very fine in the front. I’m buying clip in extensions so I can put my hair up in a decent twist. I agree that keeping it short is better as it makes the hair look fuller.
Thank you for this Nikol. I have been transitioning for 4 years now. I LOVE IT!! I feel so empowered and no longer a slave to coloring my dark hair. Thank you for these tips! I agree trims are so important. Conditioning too. To anyone contemplating this, there is nothing more stunning and elegant than a women with grey hair sparkle. 🙌🏻🍑🧡Lisa
@@gailnelson2067 Good Morning 🧡 I actually do not use a purple shampoo anymore. I choose to use… 🍑 Orbie or 🍑Pantene with hydrating oil. The key to my healthy hair is using leave in conditioner every day and giving my hair a break by putting it in a bun with leave- in conditioner. Did this help Gail? 🙌🏻🍑🧡Lisa
Again, thank you for your time and advice. I use archan oil once a week. Rub it gently into my dry hair and after 15 minutes I wash my hair with a gentle shampoo. Feels great! Brigitte 🌷
I am fully transitioned, Always great advice Nikol❤️ Ladies the products she mentioned are excellent, Kerastase, more frequent trims. I bought that Cadillac Dyson two years ago, when I started this transition, yes pricy but I attribute my hair quality to that dryer, my hair grew like 6 inches in two years. And yes, sometimes I look in the mirror and think who are you with this hair, but I just can’t see ever going back to dark brown.😀
I found my first gray hair at age 21, started permanent dye at age 30 and stopped at age 47 to embrace my totally silver hair. Three things that helped the transition: I frequently got the dyed ends cut a couple of inches at a time, I still kept dying my brown hair but went one shade lighter every time so that the last box that I bought was platinum blonde and lastly, I wore a headband when I went out that was very thin but had little teeth on it so it blended together, because my biggest dread was the dark/ light skunk line. Most of my friends didn’t even notice the “transition” part!🙌🏻
The thing that I have done that has been transformative is to use a lot of good-quality oil (like pretty much any oil that could be used on the face) on all my hair and to leave it on for a while (minimum an hour, preferably overnight) before washing. If I do that, it doesn't matter how often I wash. I don't use heat on my hair though. I do have a purple shampoo, but it seems hard on my hair and so I only use it occasionally when it seems my hair really needs it. And I do try to use gentle shampoo and conditioning products, without fragrance.
Great tips for grey, silver, white hair 👩🏻🦳💖 before going silver I never used oils in my hair, now it’s a must and my hair loves the oils and conditioning masks. Thank you for sharing 🤗🥰
I'm finally fully transitioned after 3 years! The colour is pretty - silver/gray/charcoal but the texture is horrible. My dyed hair was straight & shiny. My gray is frizzy, dry, and annoyingly wavy (not a nice curly). I am thankful for your tips. You probably have a video that addresses my question which is - what is your technique for your brush curlers & which ones do you use or prefer. I bought some cheap ones but they get really tangled in my hair. Also, if I put them in when my hair is wet should I not be using a blow dryer to dry? You are so beautiful & such a lovely person to want to share your tips with others. Thanks!
@@spirituallysafekeratin treatments can be damaging depending on your hair's porosity. A bond repair shampoo/conditioner like Amika the Kure is a safer alternative that gives amazing results. Also, Sebastian Cellophane in the clear color is another amazing product that will have your hair sooooo shiny and smooth. For best results you'll want to invest in a hooded or cap dryer so that the heat can help the product to penetrate more. For extra moisture, apply a really good, light weight hair oil the evening before you wash your hair. Message it into your scalp for about 5 minutes before running it through your hair and especially on the ends. Apply a plastic cap and a scarf/bonnet to help the oil saturate the strands even more and to keep your pillow case clean.. that way you can sleep on it overnight. But even if you can only do that for a couple of hours before washing your hair, it will make a huge difference. If the oil treatment seems to weigh your hair down,, even after washing it out, try rinsing the hair with apple cider vinegar before washing with shampoo. Hope this was helpful 🌸🌸
Thank you very much for your time! I will skip the keratin treatment then. I will remember your ACV tip since last time I coated my hair in oil and washed it afterwards very well (as I thought), it was still a wad of grease and I got odd looks at work. My hair is not too bad in the frizz department really, all dye has been out a while now. I am several shades of grey. No-one ever commented on my hair before but since going natural, I have never had so many compliments from randoms in the street, one time three in an hour, no exaggeration :) What I find good is the leave in Aveda Cherry Almond conditioner. I use jojoba shampoo and conditioner too, British company called Faith in Nature which uses water from the beautiful Lake District. Years ago I read a book by Elvis Presley's hairdresser and he said the best thing to put on the hair is jojoba - I never forgot that and it was difficult to find products with it in for many years. I am not sure if I can get the products you mention in UK, never heard of them but thank you, will have a look. @@deredd
@@spirituallysafe you're very welcome. And yes, Aveda products and jojoba oil are both excellent so it sounds like you're on the right track. Hopefully the ACV will help. Have a great day...or evening in UK 🇬🇧
I have received more compliments on my hair since I went gray/silver then I ever got before when I colored it. I always tell women who ask me to go ahead and give it a try if they don't like they can always color it again but they might be surprised and love the end result. But if you do you might have to adjust your make up color choices.
And clothing colors. I've seen women who were Autumns who didn't adjust their clothing colors and they thought they looked terrible, but they wore not only the same colors, but combined them in the same way as when they had rich brown or red hair, and it doesn't work. For example, a gray-haired Autumn can probably still wear russet, but not with dark camel. They need to combine the russet with cooler pieces to cut the warmth. They need to wear the dark camel with cooler pieces, and not with other warm colors. I'm a graying Bright Spring; I need to combine the warmest, brightest colors with pieces that aren't warm or bright, like denim blue or stone or off-white. As I get grayer, I'll be using more light gray to temper the warmer tones. I have found that warm pink is a good color for me all my life, and I've seen it work wonders on gray-haired women. It'll be a staple for me.
You look amazing. I hope i will look as good and thick hair as you when i am ready to go gray. Need to watch more positive videos like yours. thanks for the tips:)
I LOVE my gray hair… it’s very empowering! I love the Amika Bust Your Brass shampoo and conditioner are a must 2 times a week. I do some maintenance on my gray hair, but it’s nothing compared to the slave I was to the salon. So liberating.
I agree 100% You look fabulous So beautiful, you have it allGod blessed you ,yes accepting Is key in Every single way we changing,, Beauty is how you fell ,confidence is beauty.
Thanks Nikol for a short and sweet video consisting of a wealth of great advice. I’m five months into my greying and it’s coming along beautifully. If I pull my hair back, you would think I’m totally grey. I’ve been using the Pantene purple shampoo as you recommended in a prior video and it’s great. I have thick, full hair just like yours and when I want a sleek look, I use Sebastian’s Dark Oil. It smells fabulous and is not heavy on the hair nor greasy. You’re always rocking it Nikol and I’m always looking forward to your next video!
I started graying in my twenties and colored it for years. When I finally let it go natural it was a platinum silver color. I have gotten more compliments after I let it go natural. My stylist said people actually pay a lot of money to get that color. Thank you so much for these tips. I have been using a purple shampoo but think I will give a blue one a try.
My hairdresser told me the same thing. Once I stopped coloring my hair, it has come in with a mixture of silver, white and black. I also get a lot of compliments.
I had a high risk pregnancy/delivery in my 20's and I got the Morticia gray stripe as a result, so been coloring for years. My mom was like Heloise, who sported her gray looks early and she had unruly hair. It just never was manageable, so I have opted to follow my other kin that dyed until they died, lol.
Great video, I embraced going white in my 40s. Was salt and pepper in my 30s then hit the dyes, slowly getting blonder and then had a short cut to allow it easier to transfer. I was lucky to go white, and have thick hair. In the last year I have been introduced to purple shampoo in my late 50s. Years before my hair changed my hairdresser recommended only washing my hair twice a week to allow the natural oils to enhance my hair. A tip I have always used.
I am 3 years in to embracing my silver hair. I get SO many compliments on it which is still shocking to me! I am a HUGE fan of WEN. Despite the rumors out there of all the untruths about it making one’s hair fall out, etc. I have been using it since it’s inception, and now that I’m silver, I use the Wen Indigo (purple cleansing conditioner.). I mix it with the lavender one for thickening. I only use it 2x a week as silver hair can tend to be dry, especially living in the winter climate that I do. Regular shampoo is so drying and strips hair of too much oil for me personally. I occasionally use the Wen hair oil as well. Your hair is beautiful and healthy looking too! I have a lot of hair , but it is fine and straight. I am so happy that the chemical dyes, bleach, and perms of years ago are no longer for me! I agree that a good cut is crucial. I too wear a one length angled Bob. Thank you for the tips!
Rita, I have used WEN since 2011. I agree that it is a wonderful product that has made my hair healthy, bouncy, strong and shiny. It has NEVER caused my hair to fall out. I am starting my gray journey and appreciate the Indigo recommendation. Friends don't let friends use shampoo!.
yes I have used Wen for years. Two seasons of the year I see hair dropping, fall and spring- new growth time...not from the product. It is the only product I have found to condition my curly gray.
Thank you for these gems! I have been struggling with my grey hair since covid. I have dyed and highlighted for years and the pandemic forced me to make a choice. I agree that grey hair requires so much more care but your expert advice is so helpful! So thank you -
I am 18 months into my transition into grey hair. I get LOTS of compliments on it! Question: you said you wash your hair every 3-4 days but then also said to use a detox shampoo 2-3 times a week. I'm confused on how that works because the numbers don't add up for me.
I do wash my hair every 4 days, & I try to take care of it. It does sometimes get yellow patch from time to time but I don’t want to use a purple shampoo all the time because then it will get a purple tint. Thanks for the tips!!❤
I've only ever used good quality home dyes very intermittently. Now that my hair is part grey, part dark like yours but thinner, I've had it cut as an asymmetrical pixie and experimented with different colours. This month I'll go aubergine purple and it will look fabulous. Don't be afraid of the grey, it can look great and you can completely zush up your look
I have recently tried Goldie Locks brand leave in conditioner and signature serem on my silver/white natural hair. I ❤ it! Smells divine, smooths and moisturizes, without weighing hair down at all. This is GREAT for straight, fine, hair that stays bouncy and light for days. I can only shampoo every 4-5 days as well. These products are game changer. 🤩
My fine gray hair looks dirty and is flat to my head by the next day. Do you do anything on the in-between days. I have never gone 4-5 days between washing my hair.
@@sandyk13599 OK, gotta use a weekly purple shampoo, (shampoo#1), then I use a scalp care shampoo(2nd shampoo). Skip conditioner in shower, or only on ends for longer hair. Then use Goldie Locks leave in spray conditioner. It’s a really fine mist, easy to apply. Work in, then either air or blow dry. Next day I’m still fine. 2nd day (as needed thru day 4-5), I use Amika “perk up” dry shampoo on roots and work in. Brings bounce right back. Then a squirt or two of Goldie Locks signature serem to add shine, and smells beautiful. That’s how I do it.
I'm so glad you talked about the purple and the blue. I have been using Regis designline super silver shampoo and conditioner. The conditioner is blue. So I will no longer be using the conditioner. Thank you thank you 😊
Yep I haven’t had any color for over a year now and I was hoping it would just be low maintenance and gorgeous like yours. Love your videos, thx for helping us to feel pretty 😘💛
I went into the grey movement after Covid did a huge number on me. I lost almost 70% of my hair. It has grown back but I became allergic to color. I had grays since I was 16 but I had never seen them at my age. I finally gave up and got the Dyson. My new hair was coming with curls and it was really hard to manage. I didn't want the heat either so the Dyson has been my savior.
My cousin went gray and visibly aged about 15 years so I am reluctant. I’ll have to do it at some point but postponing it for now. Yours looks beautiful, I’ve not seen how you looked before …
Dear Nikol, Thank you for a brilliant video. I have long hair and i get my hair coloured and cut every 4 weeks. I only wash my hair once a fortnight. I use organic coconut oil on my hair. I do not dry my hair with any heat, I let it dry naturally. Depending on how I want to wear my hair I will use my straighteners or my rotating brush, whichever, I use i do not over do it. My hair is very thick and can be quite unruly, so needs a bit of taming. Love Sue xx
This video came at the right time for me as I’m starting my grey hair journey, I’ve been using Kerastase purple shampoo and conditioner for some time now also the deep cleansing shampoo every second shampoo, my hair only needs to be washed once a week or it’s a frizzy mess the evening I’m going to wash it, I put lots of Kerastase oil in it and leave it in while I go about my day, usually out in my yard and gardening, I have long hair and don’t want to get it cut if I can help it, I’m impatient and thinking of getting my hair stylist to strip all the old colour out and give it a slight trim off the ends, I used to always wear it in a bob like yours but it’s not as thick as it once was and don’t think it would sit as lovely on me anymore, it’s a Big Deal for us women who decide to grow out their hair, it would be great if you could just click your fingers and it would happen overnight, I don’t like the growing out process… Have a Great Weekend and a Great Week ahead Nikol. Cheers from Queensland Australia 🇦🇺❤️❤️
I let my gray grow out 7 years ago and LOVE it. It's healthier now, far less upkeep and it's unique to me. I even get to change the colors I wear. I never knew the difference between blue and purple shampoo, thanks for the tip!
I found purple drops for light blond/silver/highlighted hair that you can use with virtually any shampoo or conditioner, if you don't like the intensity, smell, or ingredients of purple shampoo products. The purple really does fight yellowing. I'm very envious of your thick hair, Nikol, I confess! I think it looks better silver than it did when you wore it dark. 😊
I have a question Nicol. Might sound weird 😂When you started your grey hair journey, did your grey change over time. Perhaps from darker to lighter? I'm puzzled as my grey always looked so white when I tinted my hair all those years, but now after almost 2 years of no tinting, my grey looks darker. Does it change as it grows?
Love to watch , i applied what I learned I’m 70yrs with grey hair my co workers say wow I live ur grey hair some color ur hair u look 30 years young let it be I love my white hair
I went a different direction. I used to invest in products until I dealt with build up and detoxification which made my hair break. I'm salt and pepper and stopped colouring over 10 years ago. I purchased a handheld scrubber and only use once every two weeks now in one direction on my scalp. I use an argan shampoo that's not full on extras only on scalp then rinse through. I squeeze my hair gently Add argan oil bent down but not on scalp. I treat the ends with rosemary mint oil damp then bundle up in a soft head wrap before pulling up or styling. I use a rosemary mint mask the night before I wash. I'm now washing once a week and it's not obvious. I have a Scheduled appointment early March after the last cut in December and I'm seriously considering pushing it forward. My ends are healthy. I never blow dry unless I lift up protecting ending, so very rare. It makes my scalp oily the same day. The flat iron shouldn't be hotter than 120 degrees and some stylist will sell the same brand they rely on. Mine stays in the drawer. Managing the curl and grey with oil works for me. It's also great for the face and neck instead of just washing off hands at night. Protective styles keep my scalp clean and ends happy. Anyone with shorter hair could still draw from these tips. Thanks for sharing
Your hair is so beautiful. I'm a blonde from birth. My hair was almost white for the first years of my life and I'm begining to get some gray in the front. I never use blow dryers, curling irons, colors, hair spray, etc.... I wash my hair every other day or third day with Dr Bronners Castiel Soap. It hangs to my knees and I've cut 4-6 inches off of the end twice in the last year. I use cocnut oil to get rid of the frizzies. You have great advice and your hair looks amazing. Thank you for sharing.
This is an important video. When I was a CHILD probably into my 20s I washed my hair everyday (maybe not on weekends depending on where I was etc) but this was because during those years I was ACTIVE indoors/outdoors on the go out in nature, in the city (Houston). There is a LOT of atmosphere in Houston & surrounding areas. Plus products were involved. Now, in a different big city but not around bus & vehicle exhaust downtown (plus that exhaustthing is differentnow), different level/type of activity indoors/outdoors, different diet, I work from home - I definitely do not shampoo my hair everyday. Also, brushing helps stretch out the need to often. Thank you very much for this video. 💝
I’ve been gray since age 21. I colored my hair until I was 38. Now at 51 I use purple shampoo weekly and cut every 5-7 weeks. My hair is much easier to care for and style now than 20+ years ago.

Thank you for the tips! I have silver hair, mostly white around the face. I've been using oil lately for frizz control and noticed that it's making my hair look darker!! I can't have that at all and will try some of your ideas, starting with getting some shampoo on the way home for starters. I really hope it lightens back up! Your hair is gorgeous, BTW!
Last week the stylist gave me highlights to blend in with my grays, instead of covering them with all-over color. This way I get to keep my grays but give it some fun! 🤩 ❤ I like it alot!
I LOVE this!!! I've just spent the last year letting my gray hair go out, so it's been a love hate, then love hate, then love hate cycle. I've actually been avoiding having it styled because I was afraid I'd go back to coloring it out of frustration, so I've been cutting it periodically as it's made me crazy, but I'm finally at the point where it's pretty much grown out now and I'm getting it styled on Monday, so these are very timely and very helpful tips. Thank you so much, I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experience.
I wore my hairstyle like yours for decades since my late twenties. Allowed the grey to come in at 58 and grew it past my shoulders, a length I never could do when I was coloring due to the damage from the dye and cutting the length every six weeks. The length actually looks younger than the shorter version.
I went gray before it became fashionable. It has been so liberating. I do miss playing with color so every once in a while I have a little peekaboo color underneath. Every 6 weeks I do go for a cut and a clear glaze to keep it shiny and soft. I shampoo every two to three days. Love the freedom.
I’m 30 and since the pandemic I’m going gray 😢I can’t even explain how hard it is for me emotionally. I mean I haven’t even had a kid yet! I used to love my long dark hair and cause of the gray I went balayage blonde. My hair got ruined and you still see the gray.
I did the balayage blonde at first with my first gray hairs with my dk brown hair . It did not work it just looked like a mess and you have to keep doing it just like the dk brown . So I stopped listening to other people and had it all cut off in a pixie and started over . I now have my natural salt and pepper and I don’t have to color anything I use purple shampoo . Now you may like low lights because you are young put your natural dk brown lowlights in with your gray . I did that for my daughter’s wedding and it gave me a edgy look (67)
Same! 31 the first year of the pandemic and boom! I’d say all around my hairline is 50% grey and I have a white streak in the front. The rest has bits of grey on dark brown. The texture is difficult s my not grey hair is oily. Oh and I have bleach the grow out…. But yeh my point is I had. Few greys pre pandemic but the stress of the whole thing gave me a few years of celebrated aging I think.
I went gray several years ago! I found it liberating and no hassle at all.
Your hair is so beautifully thick. Mine has gone so thin post menopause.
I agree with you. My hair texture changed drastically within six months and is like cobwebs now. Soul destroying.
@@marybarratt2649 I am totally with you... it is soul destroying especially when you had a lot of hair in your younger days like I had. Nikol has dream hair.
You don't know how her hair is. It's so much fake in our time. Oftentimes, thinning hair has to do with thyroid issues and iodine deficiency.
Salt and pepper
@@ls-l1518Iodine is added to food and salt. Although I only use Himalayan Pink. There are high quality Multi supplements that contain small amounts of iodine. Like Invite Health
Dont listen to your kids. It your hair. 😉
Dear Joan, I think you know what you want to do. Your scalp is telling you it is time. Once you embrace it, you will be happy and your children will probably love it. Go for it.
It’s your health that’s matters
Dot
Your hair is gorgeous. Dark haired people going grey is always so stunning. Thank you for the tips. 🦋
You are so welcome!
I love seeing mature women enter into the fashion space.
I have naturally curly hair and I also wanted to let my gray hair come through but it was always a different texture than I was used to
The curls were limp and I looked bald
I added some brown and even silver highlights
Now my hair looks full, healthy and natural
I’m 60 and loving it
I can't go complelty grey either. I just don't want to yet. So I'm playing with 2 colours too.. some grey and dying specific parts
@@ima4569 - I let my roots go to see how the natural color is shifting. Still not pretty. Time for a touch up!☺️
I went prematurely salt and pepper with dark brown hair and started dying at 27, trying to maintain dark hair.
I am 70 with natural grey/white hair. I don't get brassy, yellow, or dingy and I don't use special shampoos.
Im 58 yrs young 3mnths into growing my grey hair out. After menopausal my thick hair is now very thin. So I got to do the best with what I have left.
Even if you do not
blow dry your hair, when your hair is 80% dry you can run a small amount through your hair. I live in the south and
humidity certain times of the year is really bad. I always keep a bottle on hand for those days. The Frizz-Ease can be
on Amazon or CVS/Walgreens.
Janet consider argan oil when damp out of shower scrunching but not on scalp.
Australia makes a cream oil you could use too if necessary. No fizz and happy hair
@@donnav7103 Thanks Donna.. I've used this in the past. I'll give it another try.
I'm 39, and i have grey hair. Thank you so much for your tips ❤️
this is by far the best video i’ve come across on grey hair, i’ve been on the fence for a long time and decided it’s time to transition - thank you for all the great advice - i had ideas & ?s and you’ve clarified many of them! thank you
Just bumped into one of your shorts and watched them all! You are so beautiful and stylish. You're a great example for me of a woman who shows up for firstly herself and the world! ❤Carry on!
Thank you 🙏🏻
I’m 74 and trying to be my best me. I love your attitude towards aging.
I did the same thing!
Absolutely Gorgeous Silver grey hair, I like it!

Biotin and folate supplements and collagen ... it works. My rheumatologist told me to do it. My hair is grey and thick and I get lots of compliments.
You mentioned your mom has fine hair. So do I. What products do you recommend for fine hair? There are probably things that I can do beyond shampooing and conditioning to help this along. Thank you.
We fine hair women need answers. My hair never looked like this.
🙌🏻🍑🧡Lisa

Good Morning 🧡
I actually do not use a purple shampoo anymore. I choose to use…
🍑 Orbie or
🍑Pantene with hydrating oil.
The key to my healthy hair is using leave in conditioner every day and giving my hair a break by putting it in a bun with leave- in conditioner.
Did this help Gail? 🙌🏻🍑🧡Lisa
Thank you for all the tips. If I had hair like yours I would happily embrace the grey, it's beautiful.
Again, thank you for your time and advice. I use archan oil once a week. Rub it gently into my dry hair and after 15 minutes I wash my hair with a gentle shampoo. Feels great!
Brigitte 🌷
It took me 25 months to grow out the hair dye. It’s now so easy to look after, cut twice a year job done.
You. have gorgeous hair. Thank you for all of your professional advice. I love my grey hair and will continue to learn what’s best for me.😊
I found my first gray hair at age 21, started permanent dye at age 30 and stopped at age 47 to embrace my totally silver hair.
Love my silver hair wished I’d done it years ago.
Me too! When I stopped dyeing my hair and it grew in pure white, I felt like I won the hair lottery.
Great tips for grey, silver, white hair 👩🏻🦳💖 before going silver I never used oils in my hair, now it’s a must and my hair loves the oils and conditioning masks. Thank you for sharing 🤗🥰
Glad it was helpful!
You have a beautiful hair I wouldn’t do anything with it. It just blends well with your complexion and yourself. You are a very pretty woman.
Thanks!
Keratin treatments....Works for my frizzy hair
@@eveelliot2109 Please could you advise a bit more information on this. Shop bought products? Which? How often do you use etc? Thank you.
I use Oribe silverati. It is silvery blue but doesn't add color. I haven't had a problem with dryness.
A great cut for silver hair is a must. Washing only 3 or 4 days is true. Conditioning is mandatory. Have been silver since I was 29.
I totally agree!
Same here!

Laurie Sudduth: Everything you said, ditto for me.😁
Both my mom and sister and my 2 daughters went white in their 40s. I started in my 70s. It must be genetic.
Maybe she meant 2-3 timer per month.
I was wondering the same thing.
I just chopped mine!!!! And I AM loving it! I had long hair my whole life!
Thank you thank you 😊
Is your hair blue? Because lots of women use purple shampoo and their hair is purple in photos. It isn't always better.
Yours looks beautiful, I’ve not seen how you looked before …
Really good info. I am on my fourth year of total grey. I love it. I do use too much heat but my hair is super straight and doesn't hold curl.
I wash/condition my hair weekly on Saturdays!
I use Phyto, too, and love it. I've noticed a big improvement in my hair with their products.

I have found that adding grey extensions helps.. always gets compliments on my grey hair when I wear the extensions.. 😊
Just beginning to go gray. Not much yet but love the tips!
What are the drops? Sounds interesting.
Great tips! I like putting a few drops pumpkin seed oil in my shampoo.
Thank you for being here for us !
I squeeze my hair gently
Add argan oil bent down but not on scalp.
3.5 years of enjoying my natural gray... LOVE it
I’ve been gray since age 21. I colored my hair until I was 38. Now at 51 I use purple shampoo weekly and cut every 5-7 weeks. My hair is much easier to care for and style now than 20+ years ago.

I've wanted hair like your since I was 16. Now I settle for my salt and pepper. Purple shampoo and conditioner are a must. I even travel with it.
I love your hair. And I'm embracing my grey. Using Pantenes stunning silver shampoo and conditioner. Love them.
Couldn’t take my eyes of your lips! That color was gorgeous. You embolden me to want to try new colors! Unleash the desire that’s always been there! Thanks!
Thank you so much!!

Omg your hair is so beautiful. I’m jealous and I want to let my hair go gray and get this look
You AND your hair ... ARE LOVELY 🥰
Love your hair color and style, it’s beautiful
🔥 I cannot WAIT TO GO GRAY 🔥
I wore my hairstyle like yours for decades since my late twenties. Allowed the grey to come in at 58 and grew it past my shoulders, a length I never could do when I was coloring due to the damage from the dye and cutting the length every six weeks. The length actually looks younger than the shorter version.
I went gray before it became fashionable. It has been so liberating. I do miss playing with color so every once in a while I have a little peekaboo color underneath. Every 6 weeks I do go for a cut and a clear glaze to keep it shiny and soft. I shampoo every two to three days. Love the freedom.
Thank You for sharing, your hair is amazing
I’m 30 and since the pandemic I’m going gray 😢I can’t even explain how hard it is for me emotionally. I mean I haven’t even had a kid yet! I used to love my long dark hair and cause of the gray I went balayage blonde. My hair got ruined and you still see the gray.
Embrace it. Your youthful face will be striking with grey! I started greying at 18.
@@famprima I agree about embracing the grey.
I found a fantastic purple foam by Color Wow. Perfect for keeping away the dullness of my salt and pepper hair. You use it in dry hair
Started using Olaplex #7 bonding oil, what a difference, smells nice too
Yes agree it does a great job smoothing the hair
