You took one for the team to show us product build up! Thank you for the tip of scrubbing your scalp after conditioner too. That never occurred to me to do.
My hair is flat at the roots like yours with the buildup 😬. I clarify my hair once or every other week and I’m confused why it still has buildup. I guess I’ll have to scrub it a little more.
Thank you so much for the helpful tips!!! Every time I search “curly hair” 4a/4b/4c pops up...and when I saw the thumbnail my heart skipped a beat cause we have the same hair time!!! Once again...tysm!!!💕
I learned with my super high density hair is that I have to shampoo upright and upside down. I kept missing the nape of my neck so I start upright and scrub then flip upside down and scrub. Gets tangly with the flipping but it’s the only way to get everything clean
I never thought about massaging my scalp when rinsing out conditioner. I constantly finger detangle & rake from the root, plus I use a wide tooth comb or brush away from my scalp, but I do have fine hair & need to start doing this. It's so difficult cuz my fine hair NEEDS the weight of products to keep it clumped and held, or else it just de-clumps and becomes this awful wispy mess - such a fine line between too much and not enough product
Again, another helpful video! I finally tried Giovanni 50 50 Balanced Hydrating Clarifying shampoo-- like it a lot!! Leaves my hair bouncy, yet feeling healthy, not dried out at all! I like the conditioner too!! Maybe give it a try-- still has clarifying benefits, but doesn't dry out the hair at all!
Oh wow I had no clue that was causing my curls at my scalp to be so flat! I’ve always noticed product build up but I thought it was normal 😅 will definitely be buying scalp massager! Time to get rid of all that gunk 🤮
I would love to see a video all about hard water! Also, I have been using the Ion Hard Water Shampoo for clarifying, and I have had a great experience. It has a really high lather, which I love for a clarifying shampoo.
Yes please for video on hard water! I got myself some Malibu c satchets as well as their clarifying shampoo and I'm curious how they compare to Curlsmith detox set which is my go to for now, despite being time consuming. Tysm for excellent content 🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍
Great info, and nice delivery on this one. I’ve experienced all of these and would love to hear what you find out about hard water. Oh and I always double cleanse and use a massager brush. Together that’s a game changer for buildup.
Wish you gave more examples of non stripping but clarifying shampoos. Even if it was just pictures. I used silicone on accident (it was in a oil) and I need to remove it but don't want to strip my hair. Video was still helpful so thank you.
Always posting awesome content! I have a ‘scalp massager’ I found at Walmart and the teeth are so plastic-y, hard, and don’t have any give to them. I’d like to try the tangle teaser one!
hey gena! "how can i prevent damaged hair from leaving all the products in?" i have ordered some products to finally start my wavy hair journey and in my research i didnt really find an answer to my question. first of all: your channel is helping me SO much with preparing i love your for that ^^ so.. i read on a curly hair blog that leaving gel over night is really damaging your hair. but in every video of cgm routines people scrunch gel and mousse in their hair. should i wash the products out every single day? that doesnt sound right.. thats why im asking under this video.. because i saw that curly hair people "refresh" their hair the next morning with 2 products and im imagining build up from that.. im hoping for an answer :) yours, liz
You made some very good points, but unfortunately damp styling doesn’t work for me. I really wanted it to work but my hair just comes out stringy looking every time. My products, particularly the Curlsmith line and my hair just style best when it’s soaking wet. I did like your suggestions about micro plopping and not scrunching my hair all the way to my scalp. It makes absolute sense and I think with your tips and some experimenting I can find a better routine that works for me. Thanks.
I often have the same problem. What I do is I use my leave in and or curl cream while wet and then scrunch and plop and then when it's damp I use my holding product like gel or mousse. That made it way less stringy.
Totally understand. When I need to style more wet depending on the product I'm using, I will just "microplop" after with my Hair Repear towel to absorb excess water then go in with another light glaze of gel in case it removed any product/hold.
I have never known how to take care of my curly hair no one in my family has it and for forever I would brush it and they looked horrible I no longer brush it while it’s dry and it’s looking a tiny bit better but i always get product build up!! my hair just feels so crusty and stiff I use the multi cultural curls styling solution idk if that’s the best thing to use but that’s what I’m using right now, i think I put to much and that’s why it gets crusty . IDKK 😭 I really hate my curls their so frizzy and stiff all the time and I have no idea what to do, I just realized my shampoo has sulfate so I think I have to find another one if you have any recommendation pls let me know !! i really have no idea what to do and if the things Im using now or good or not pls let me know :)
I need help!!! After detoxing, shampooing, or removing buildup from my hair and scalp, my hair is lifeless!!! It becomes so THIN, frizzy, and doesn’t hold its curl pattern. I hate having buildup, it’s itchy, my hair looks dull, It doesn’t have that shine, and it’s matted at the roots, ect. HOWEVER it almost looks better than the alternative clean detoxed hair. Atleast it’s thick and my curls clumps stay together and I have little to no frizz. Even when I lightly shampoo with sulfate free curly shampoo (I’ve tried so many from recommend curly girls) the same thing happens every time. Thin frizzy mess. Because of this I rarely shampoo my hair hence the buildup and why I’m here. I need help, there are no stylists in my area who know much about curly hair.
omg i´m early i thought his was an old video! Thank you so much for this video it is very helful and i´m going to put the scalp exfoliator in my cart. And i have a question, my hair is a mix of 2c 3a and even though i care for it great and it does look very healthy a lot of my curls are defined but they arent a proper spiral shape some of he have weird shapes i don´t mind them being looser or tighter but i would like them to be more spiraly, it doesn´t boder me too much but if i could perfect it, it would be great! Stay safe!
can buildup cause thinning of scalp in 1 section of your scalp if someone has no nutritional/hormonal deficiencies? i've been experiencing serious thinning of hair towards the back of my head primarily and i do use many oils on my scalp so i'm wondering if that contributes. i've used the vo5 clarifying shampoo before but for some reason still getting thinning. i thought it was a protein/moisture issue but i tried a deep conditioner and it hasn't been working like it used to.
What is the point of rinsing deep conditioner all the way out to where there is no slip to it anymore? I always rinse it from my scalp, but my hair... not so much.
Hii I'm new here ! I love your channel 😍 can you please do a full week video my hair only looks good on my wash day 😅 then it goes down from there ... I wear a bonnet and I sleep on a silk cover pillow and it's still gets frizzy and tangled the second day and of course gets worse throughtout the week 🙈 I need help please !
I have a couple of videos about a “week of curls” if you check out my channel! The key is to use a strong hold gel and ensure its moisturized underneath so it doesn’t get dry
No, there’s no need to add conditioner every day. Conditioner should only be used on wash day after you shampoo and then rinsed out fully. If your hair needs a little bit more moisture on refresh days, you can add a little bit of leave-in conditioner mixed with water to your hair.
How do u get rid of the freeze everyday. My hair looks great the day I wash. But the following days the freeze dives me crazy. I reactivate the gel by wetting my hair but the freeze is annoying.
There’s loads of causes a frizz but the number one cause in my opinion is not having strong enough hold in your gel. Also diffusing helps to set your gel cast. Air drying always results in more frizz for me.
Hi Gena, I sent you a FB message, I would SOOO LOVE YOUR HELP!! I got mymanebio results back and I'm racking my brain to make sure I ask the right questions since they only allow 3 emails and I don't want to waste my questions.... Can you help me to make sure I ask the right questions?

any tips if your scalp is sunburnt?
@@lizzycouch2236 maybe try using Aloe vera on your scalp to relieve that itching.
It's nice to see someone actually use shampoo instead of just cowashing.

Yess! Helps so much especially if you like to apply conditioner up to root for moisture.

I also dealt with buildup from plopping. My hair still loves plopping but I have to scrunch some water out before so it’s not all dripping on my scalp
