Yes especially for refreshing quick and easy before work! I’m a frizzy mess by 10am I have to throw it up. But I can’t spend more then an hour including makeup, changing getting kiddo out the door with me. So realistically 30 mins max on my hair and I hate leaving with a crunch
Every time I go for a haircut, the stylist does mistake #6 (the aggressive scrunching). It's so frustrating! Especially since I usually have to get my haircuts either on my work break or right before work. Then I'm left going to work with frizzy, undefined, and webbed hair. I don't feel super comfortable telling a stylist how to do their job because I don't want to offend them, but during my last cut, I did explain to her how I scrunch my hair after applying products. She still went in super aggressively. I definitely think hair stylists need to be better trained when it comes to dealing with wavy/curly hair because I know this is something a lot of wavies/curlies deal with when going to a salon.
This is so true! I style my own hair after I get my haircut and my stylist is super understanding about how I just have a way I like to do my hair. I totally understand though how it can be awkward to say something to ask to style your own. I think it just depends on the stylist!
Girl, I hear ya. Like Gena said, depends on the stylist. I try to tell them that on MY hair, that won't work. But they just don't listen. Maybe it's a time "thing" too. The faster they finish with a client, on to the next = more money. 🤷♀️
Thank you so much Gena! You touched on so many areas of frizz producers in our routines that NO ONE EVER talks about. Such valuable lessons of causes and cures. Your visual examples really drive it home. Your videos really show your compassion to the curly girls struggles and frustrations. I’ve learned SO MUCH from you and I’m 63! You are truly an Angel in The Curly Hair community in my opinion. 💕💕💕💕💕
I really appreciated this video. You are the first curly head that I've seen on RUclips that actually mentioned a very difficult problem and you called it Webby hair. I've noticed that in my own hair many times. But I appreciate you itemizing mistakes that can be easily done and how to fix it. This was a great tutorial.
This was a great video Gena. You really touched on everything. I was impressed and throughly enjoyed it. The fact that your content still has such substance, after all this time. It hasnt gone unnoticed and is appreciated.
I have been struggling SO hard with my curly hair lately, its unmanageable and so tangled all the time! I've been watching your videos and I'm going to try this out next wash day, I'm desperate

Wow....I need to learn more if I want my hair to look better. I stopped coloring my hair with COVID, so it's quite grey now, which I actually really like. It's such a relief not to be worrying about grey roots, and I truly like the color and don't think I look "older" as I feared for so long I would. But I feel curly grey hair can look even more sloppy than curly dark hair when it gets frizzy. So, I need to up my game a bit just to feel sharp, you know? I'm not going to be at your level, Gena, but that's OK. I just need to be happy with my hair myself, like you said. Thanks very much for this video and the others of yours I've watched tonight. I'm about to get in the shower and then try some of what you talked about here and HOPE that tomorrow morning, whatever I manage tonight, still looks decent as I am going to drive into NYC for Thanksgiving (about 90 miles from where I live) and I won't have time to fuss in the morning.
Thanks for this video. I’m in my 60’s and just started using these kind of products. I do not like the crunchy hair look so I’m glad I watched this video and you talked about that. I thought it was my products

Yes make a series 😀😀. I live in south Florida. Iam always a freeze ball. Tried quidad humidity control and there other products. They don’t help in our humidity. They need to make an extra strength 😹😹😹. Thanks for your advice
As always, great tips. I know most if them but having them all put together really helped me remember. This time of year is such a frizzy struggle for me. I'm going back to diffusing! Thank you.
I recently got my hair cut after desperately needing one and I have found myself turning to your channel more and more for tips with wet frizz. I'm even saving up for that blow dryer you started using recently. I purchased the one you used before, that Conair one. I look forward to more content
Thank for your tips. I have my hair permed and it s kind of damaged. Fist, I chose natural hold gel but like u said it doesn't help reduce frizz at all. So I turned to strong hold gel and it worked marvelous!!
Gena, I've been binge-watching your videos and you have the BEST content on curly hair. I really appreciate it and just wanted to say thank you! I'm absolutely amazed at what a difference your techniques have made, and I've only just tried a few so far! I'm excited to let the curls down and to stop straightening so much.
I absolutely loved watching this. I have so much difficulties with my curls because I have three different curl types in my hair not everybody. I just ordered Ouidad products that you featured in the video. Thank you!
After having no luck with the advanced climate control gels (I know, unpopular opinion!), I reluctantly tried that coil infusion good shaper gel and LOVED it! I've used it 3 or 4 times & have gotten excellent curl enhancement! I paired it with different products each time so I'd know for sure what that gel was doing for me, and every time my curls would be extra bouncy & more uniform. My right side is always a bit curlies than my left side, especially by day 3 and on, but this gel helped the left look just as curly as the right, with much less of a difference as days went on. I have fine, easily weighed down hair, so you're right, it should be fine for other fine curlies 💜💜💜
I absolutely love your videos! This is helping me so much with my hair journey. I have come a long way and your videos have helped me so much more! Thank you!
I have been watching your video's for a few months now. I have only been on my curly journey for a few months This was a very informative video. I think you should do more of them. I will definitely be trying these tips out. Thank you for the tips!!!!!!
I do the same for prep but then i use a pump lite hold hair spray and use a towel to crimp hair and keep spraying the pump hair spray. Any kind is good even ones at Dollar Store. At end ill use Aussie Freeze Hold Aerosol Spray and once again towel crimp hair and spray once more. Perfect smooth frizz free curls that last all day!
Thanks for another very informative video, Gena! If you, or any of your subscribers, have experience with a great stylist in the Dallas/ Ft Worth area, I’m searching for someone who truly understands how to work with natural wavy-curly hair. 🥰
Try Cross and Co salon! My stylist was Daniela but I have confidence in all of their stylists! They were super informative, recommended great products and made my curls looks the best they’ve ever been! They are located in Plano.
I get so much more frizz if I diffuse. I’ve tried so many techniques but air dry seems to be less frizzy, though less voluminous and I can go more days with better refreshes. If I try to refresh previously diffused hair it’s a disaster. Maybe it’s bc my hair is super fine
These were some great tips! Some of these I never heard/thought of before. Suggestion: changing up background for your talking points will make it feel less like a training video that u would see at a new job or something. However, I loved this video even tho the background was a lil blah😆💜
I am a beginner and after moving from the huge dry broom look or me, now with curly routine i not much used the the super shiny look clumped look of it. I am still learning though, but i felt the my curls look dont become fully soft even after breaking the caste. I still end up with oily hair look from top to end... will experiment again after each was till i achieve the big realization and crack the game 😅 im also wondering if i have to buy a clarifying shampoo as my hair always gets super clean and dry (high porosity). Its not flat heavy or sticky after wash.
Thanks for all the really great tips. I was wondering if you could do a video suggesting a couple of good "fragrance free" styling ptoducts (cream..gel..etc) and a good fragrance free deep conditioner. Fragrance in hair products cause my hair to shed...especially when my hair is wet. I didn't have much luck looking myself. Thanks!
Actually humidity loves my hair and if it dries outdoors I have to do absolutely nothing to it. The hair just works itself out. But I drier days I do need a little product.
I end up with frizz later in the day. I’m not sure why. I start the day fine but ugh is it bad by evening and if I’m he out I need to refresh again or I wear my hair in a ponytail and don’t do my hair until later in the day. I don’t know what to do.
Thank you Genna !... so thorough as always! Love ❤ your videos.... Yes... I know you like Ouidad strong hold gel for humid environment... I have tried a couple of times .. so much luck.. lol....I just bought it again... traveling to the Caribbean next month... we will see 👀 ... I 😄🥰
Hi, i like and really enjoy your videos. I’ve been watching them for the past couple of days. Thank you for them. so I have a question for you, I currently have hair keratin on my hair, don’t like to much the curls. I believe my hair is type 3b, what would be the best way to try to go back to my natural curly hair? My hair is also colored and I have fine hair, currently working on my hair not to get thinner or lose so much of it. What suggestions do you have? What products do you suggest? It’s been about 3-4 months from the last time I keratin my hair. Thanks in advance.
My hair is mostly 2b, with a few 2c sections, and although yours is much "coilier" than mine, I still enjoy watching you because you're so pleasant and I can tell your tips come from real tried-and-true experience, not from reading some list or watching another content creator and regurgitating what they said. I am starting to get a lot more gray hair, and as you know, they are often wirier, so I will try the more deliberate "tucking in" of those strands. I have a Behairful brush that I adore, and a few others that should help. And, of course, I can use my fingers to coil those spots with more intent! Thank you for all these tips. They are helpful, even for a barely curly lady like me!
Please advise about how to manage curly hair resulting from having through chemo infusion. There are so many products and videos out there but little about products that specifically address what is referred to as "chemo curls".
Thank you so much for all the information this makes so much sense and I can't wait to try it out tomorrow morning. Hope you have a wonderful week Happy Thanksgiving
...prior to having chemo infusion, my hair was wavy, and had no problem air drying, actually preferred as took less time than styling, but the amount of frizz I have deal with now with the "chemo curls" is very frustrating. I want to find a better solution than a Brazilian blowout to straighten my hair.
I recently found out I was anemic as well. I’ve been taking iron supplements for about three or four months. I shared more about it in some recent videos. I’m hoping I’ll be seeing lots of new growth too soon!
So I haven’t watched the video yet but I really need some help, so I used to use a shampoo and conditioner with sulfate and so I switched to SHEA moisture but I’ve noticed that sometimes when I put water on my hair it’s gets a really wierd texture as if I just got out of the pool, it’s also really tangled and crusty, it might be my styling products but I’m not sure, I’m pretty sure I have Type 2 hair do you have any shampoo and conditioner recommendations ?!
Hi Gena, another great video! A few of the things you mentioned, I’m doing so that’s creating freeze. Will incorporate your suggestions. Also, I’m using the LUS styler, would I still need a leave in moisturizer to eliminate some freeze? Thank you.
I haven’t tried LUS yet but from what I have heard the styler is a light hold. Do you get any gel cast? If not, it’s likely frizzing up due to that styler being too light hold and you need a stronger hold gel.
Hello Gena... I've learned a lot from your video. I've been doing almost the same as you but what I struggle with is that I have very thin hair and when I prepare my hair it shows my scalp and I don't like that. Any advice on fixing that please
This was so helpful. I have similar length, and density as yours, but fine. More water-and a leave in brushed in has definitely helped with curl clumping and less frizz for my front area..I have the purple brush, too, and I love using it instead of a denman. But the back of my hair hardly has curl, and the curl doesn’t start from the root. It’s totally a different pattern and it’s so frustrating. Any tips?
Same in my case. I HAVE to do finger coiling and coil at the root first and make my way down, so thouse root hairs don't open up to much. (I even have to pinch that while I go down) That's the only way the back of my head looks "decent".
Thanks Gena for your videos! I just found you & really appreciate all your advice. I was washing etc. upside down in an effort to get more volume especially at the crown but it did the opposite. Yet I stuck with it for months! I’m excited to try your styling tips to get more scalp coverage. Thanx again 💛
Thanks for the video! I learned a lot! It's super hard finding a strong hold light weight gel, or mousse that would suit my fine hair... Especially low-glycerin or glycerin free... I don't mind aloe vera, a silicone or two is okay (I'm not strictly CGM), and I could always use more protein. My current leave in has some hold (HUGE cast), sometimes it works so well on its own, but my hair ends up stringy (I thought it was just me until I looked at how it looked in other people's hair and it's definitely intended). It's harder not living in the US because the (curly to be specific) hair product selection where I live is super limited :( But this one seems like everything I'm looking for! Once I run out of the gel I have I'll be sure to give it a try, along with a lighter/spray leave in
@@florl.delgado4093 Sorry for the late reply! I use the Mixed Chicks Leave-in Conditioner. It's not silicone-free, so not CG approved, but that's fine with me, I'm happy with how my hair looks. I felt it too heavy on my hair at first, but you only need a little bit and your hair should be wet enough! It works great on its own or with a gel on top, without cream! My hair naturally falls flat / stretches out at the roots by day 3 because its quite long, but it holds quite well. If I knew of a CG approved similar product, I'd name it. I'll have a look but if you don't mind silicones (or glycerin), it's my favorite.
Amazing video, Gena! I have 4a high porosity hair, and I think I'm dealing with frizz because I'm not distributing product evenly. Should I use a detangling comb or a detangling brush? I have a Denman brush.
I've tried a few brushes, but the tangle teezer is SUPER (for everything!) I've seen, if not all, LOTS of the girls using it. (UTuber Influencer's) If I'm not mistaken. Gena is using one in this video.
I have used the Denman brush too but only to define curls. I don’t like it for just general brushing to distribute product because it’s not a detangling brush. The tangle Teezer brush that I used in this video is linked in the description and can be used for both distributing product/brushing and creating ringlets
Would a homemade detangler (like marshmallow root) be considered a leave-in? My skin is so sensitive to all hair products so I’ve been trying simple, homemade recipes.
Great video! Can you show how to deal with cowlicks on the crown area after it's already dry? I have several in that area and even though I try to minimize them, I still end up with them.
Thanks! i have a video all about that here: ruclips.net/video/9yzGHAAAv8Q/видео.html Also additional tips here: ruclips.net/video/lSy4TvEAq5g/видео.html
Hey Gena! Hello from Germany 🤗 Thank you for so many tips. I'm using a mousse too. I'm applying it in the first step at my roots and in the last step to crunch and fixing after gel and styling with the denman. Is it wrong?
the last time i used a diffuser on my hair, it got stuck into my hairdryer and i had to buy a new one from the damage 😭 it honestly scared me so much and i’m not sure what i should do to avoid this again. Should i tie my hair up in sections and then diffuse???? I’m still scared it will find its way into the hairdryer.
I'm so curious on the hair repear vs the perfect hair care towel but can't find not 1 comparison. They're very diff as one is 100% Combed Cotton while the other is 100% Microfiber: 80% Polyester / 20% Polyamide-Nylon. Both are touted as super smooth, popular w/ curly/wavy hair and offer similar sizing w/ ties on the towels. Have you ever tried the Perfect Hair Care? I know you like Hair Repear but curious if you tried the former in the past and didn't like it or prefer one.
Great suggestion! I haven't tried the Perfect Haircare Towel. I personally prefer combed cotton because it doesn't have any fibers, and it's flat. If you look closely at microfiber material, you can see tiny fibers that can grab onto strands and cause frizz. Just my opinion but I know many people love them!
@@GenaMarie ok so one of my sisters actually bought me the perfect hair care towels for Xmas 😂 They're super smooth! I was previously using cotton tea towels bc they have a flat weave but these have ZERO nap/invisible weave...almost feel akin to this really nice glasses cleaning cloth I own (diff from the cheap ones included w/ most cases)...but smoother and thinner. She gave me 2 large and 2 smaller scrunching ones. The latter are v handy. If you ever get an opportunity would love a comparison! If I get the hair repear myself I'll report back on if one works better as frizz is a real issue for me doing my hair curly.
I have been microplopping with the styling products on my hair and then airdrying a few minutes before diffusing since my hair stays soaking wet for so long. Is it bad for me to microplop with stylers on? Thanks for the tips!
A regular hair dryer will not give the same affect as a diffuser and will just blow the hair all over creating frizz. They sell universal diffuser attachments on Amazon that are affordable that you can slip on your current dryer
Hello Gena, I really love your videos & appreciate the depth of detail & advice you provide. It really helps. I have one issue I’m dealing with that I was hoping you might have some ideas to help me. I brush style my hair & have found that I do t have much slip (I style before gel because I won’t have any slip at all if I do it after gel). I was wondering if this could be because I need more leave in/curl cream in my hair to make the slip? How do you know you have enough product without it feeling producty when dry? My hair is usually very wet when I style so it can’t be a lack of water. I just feel I’m probably causing more damage trying to style my hair than just leaving it alone & wearing it in a ponytail for a few days.
Hi! Hope you don't mind me jumping in. I've learned from other curly RUclipsrs that you know it's enough leave in if you twist a chunk of your hair and can see a bit of the cream coming through. The tip about making sure your hair is pretty wet might also be helpful to you.
My hair stylist uses a terry cloth towel and aggressively rubs my hair...he lets me dry my hair myself when he’s done cutting, but the frizz has already happened. He says he needs to dry it well so he can cut it. I go home and rewash and style my hair immediately everytime.
I apply my own products and diffuse at the salon after my stylist cuts it. However sometimes I just ask to leave it wet as is, and go home and style it myself, just so I don't have to re-wash.
New growth; shorter layers; applying products right onto tangled, frizzy hair after washing. Instead brush gently or finger detangle hair first, then apply styling products; applying products to hair that is too dry. Instead try towel drying the roots with a hair towel, T-shirt, or microfiber towel first, then spritz water where needed so it's evenly wet; skipping leave-in or curl cream and only using a drying gel or mousse. Instead try using a curl cream or leave-in first for a moisturizing base layer; not using products that have film-forming ingredients and not enough hold or cast. Instead try looking for ingredients like aloe, flaxseed, marshmallow root, castor oil, honey; not evenly applying your styling products and leaving some strands not covered. Instead try combing products through for more even coverage, and use a brush to create clumps and ringlets; aggressive scrunching or scrunching wet hair with dry or sticky hands. Instead try gently scrunching with wet hands, using open palms, lifting the hair away from the scalp then scrunch to encourage root curls; not properly drying your hair while it's wet, or letting the humid or dry air outside get to it. Instead try diffusing which sets the gel cast right away and dries the hair faster preventing frizz; scrunching out the crunch or cast too soon, or separating clumps when the hair is damp within. Instead try waiting until hair is 100% dry and cooled off. Leave the gel cast in for longer-lasting frizz protection.
Loooooooved this video!!! I never have dared to go IMIDIATLEY to diffusing. That's one thing I haven't tried. We'll see if it works for me. Thank you ALWAYS Gena. Godsend ❣
I recommend first microplopping with a hair towel (scrunching out excess water) Before diffusing so you’re not diffusing soaking wet hair if you do wet style
@@GenaMarie Thank you for answering me, Gena. You almost always do and I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT. (Got a response once or twice from others that I love. But that's about it)Still love Y'all. ❤

That makes sense! Do what works best for you 🙌🏼😊
Try bonding treatment 😊
This video had such great tips and information! Thank you so much!
These were some great tips! Some of these I never heard/thought of before. Suggestion: changing up background for your talking points will make it feel less like a training video that u would see at a new job or something. However, I loved this video even tho the background was a lil blah😆💜
Thanks for the feedback! I actually ally filmed in a new location for my next video that's going up Sunday all about a quick wash day routine!
Really enjoyed that video!!! Awesome, thanks 😘
I have a perm and this has been a very helpful video. Thank you!!
Thanks!
It's hard to find but I will definitely add this to my list to film!
@@GenaMarie Thank you so much!
Actually humidity loves my hair and if it dries outdoors I have to do absolutely nothing to it. The hair just works itself out. But I drier days I do need a little product.
Your wet hair looks exactly like my hair fully dry 🤣 as a Wavy/Curly I’m always shocked by how much tighter curls spring up when dry! So pretty!
Thank you! If I didn't diffuse mine would dry the way it looks when wet and frizzy
What do we do if we do not have a diffuser because if financial issues and would aunty Jackie's be a great product to use
This is so great 🎉 Thank you so much for these tips, I will definitely be trialing them next time I wash 👐❣😍
Please advise about how to manage curly hair resulting from having through chemo infusion. There are so many products and videos out there but little about products that specifically address what is referred to as "chemo curls".
Just treat them as curls
My curls stayed post chemo.
21 years in remission!
Thank you so much for all the information this makes so much sense and I can't wait to try it out tomorrow morning. Hope you have a wonderful week Happy Thanksgiving
Thanks, Jenn! Happy Thanksgiving to you too1
...prior to having chemo infusion, my hair was wavy, and had no problem air drying, actually preferred as took less time than styling, but the amount of frizz I have deal with now with the "chemo curls" is very frustrating. I want to find a better solution than a Brazilian blowout to straighten my hair.
My hair stayed curly post chemo
I use both a gel and mousse should I use the gel first or mousse???
can you do a video on how to braid curly hair? I have no idea how to do it
What order should I use leave in, mousse, and gel ?
Do u suggest to detangle before hairwash or detangle on wet hair
Thanks for the root frizz tips. I had pretty severe anemia and lost a lot of hair. My hair is regrowing after I had iron infusions. It looks strange.
It will grow out, before you know it. Patience is key in your case.
Shea butter is just too heavy on your hair. It should be used as the last ingredient because of its sealing properties.
How about the curly hair products of aveda? Are they good
I love your results! Beautiful!❤️❤️❤️❤️🤗
Please tell me the water bottle you are using and where to get it. Thank you so much for all your information.
You can buy it at Sally's.

@@florl.delgado4093 thank you, it’s just a continuous stream water bottle?
@@GenaMarie thank you, I think it’s just a continuous stream water bottle, correct? I will just get one on Amazon or Sally’s
I noticed you do not use the "praying hand" method, but finger all your products in. Do you have a video on why?
Pls do a series on frizzy hair due to dryness
I have a video on that here! ruclips.net/video/9yzGHAAAv8Q/видео.html
Any tips?
Check out my video about how to get more root definition! Hope that helps!
Thanks for the valuable tips you shared...!
Once I run out of the gel I have I'll be sure to give it a try, along with a lighter/spray leave in
What leave-in gives you that strong hold?
@@florl.delgado4093 Ok. Thanks for answering my question.
@@GenaMarie I know that the Denman brush is for defining curls. I might check out the Tangle Teezer too. Thanks.
Denman is not a detangling brush
You should do double bun tutorial
Would a homemade detangler (like marshmallow root) be considered a leave-in? My skin is so sensitive to all hair products so I’ve been trying simple, homemade recipes.
Great video! Can you show how to deal with cowlicks on the crown area after it's already dry? I have several in that area and even though I try to minimize them, I still end up with them.
Thanks! i have a video all about that here: ruclips.net/video/9yzGHAAAv8Q/видео.html

Root clips when drying help a lot
Hey Gena! Hello from Germany 🤗
Thank you for so many tips.
I'm using a mousse too. I'm applying it in the first step at my roots and in the last step to crunch and fixing after gel and styling with the denman. Is it wrong?
Never a wrong way. Each head of curls is different and needs different techniques. Good leave in. Mousse tends to dry out more than gels.
@@florl.delgado4093 thank you. I get more volume with a mouse
You can definitely do that too!
@@GenaMarie I will try both 🥰 thank you
As long as it works for you
the last time i used a diffuser on my hair, it got stuck into my hairdryer and i had to buy a new one from the damage 😭 it honestly scared me so much and i’m not sure what i should do to avoid this again. Should i tie my hair up in sections and then diffuse???? I’m still scared it will find its way into the hairdryer.
I can't imagine how that could happen. Is your hair long?
Perhaps she didn’t have a good diffuser head? My diffusers have very tiny holes so the hair doesn’t go down in the dryer
Honestly that has never happened to me in decades od having curly hair
@@florl.delgado4093 yes it was long as the time but now i’ve cut it since then
@@GenaMarie it got stuck on the back of the hair dryer so i think my hair just got sucked up there and it burnt off 😭
Yes please. Great info!
What do you do for oily hair.
Nope, that's what I do! I apply products first then microplop. Sometimes i apply another light layer of gel before diffusing if any frizz popped up
Can I use this styling method for wavy hair ?
Yes you can!
@@GenaMarie Thanks for responding 😊
Is it okay to dry my hair with a regular blow drier from far away until i get a diffuser?
No.
A regular hair dryer will not give the same affect as a diffuser and will just blow the hair all over creating frizz. They sell universal diffuser attachments on Amazon that are affordable that you can slip on your current dryer
Nope
My diffuser hair dryer was £3 from a charity shop
May I ask what size Apple Watch you’re wearing? Is it a 40 or a 44? I looks really good on you.
Thanks! It’s pretty old and a series 2, so it’s a 38mm.
@@GenaMarie Thank you for your response! Love your videos.
depending on the formulation i dont always need a leave in
That's great!
Use the correct kind of towel also and just pat dry
Thats why i love my Hair Repear towel! It's flatweave cotton like a T-shirt!
Thanks
Looks great
Loooooooved this video!!!
