  • Scotts Steering damper or eBay brand, which one to buy? I go over the problems I had with the eBay brand so my opinion is to just buy the real Scotts.

best damper around...Scotts..i have owned only 2 units since 02...used for off road single track riding....works great & probably saved me from horrific crashes in high speed incidents ...my units have seen thousands of off road miles ...great service & folks at Scotts...they even took the time on getting their damper mounted on my new TM...with their help & effort..i now have the best damper on the market on my oddball TM 300. worth every penny..

Have savage for over 3 years and 50k km
    No issue at all..
I was riding same bike with scotts and it felt completely same..
    To me, they are same..

My question is, will the Scotts damper directly bolt up to the Savage mounts and work without any type of failure? I purchased a new/lightly used Scotts damper with no mount for a bike I just sold (2019 KTM 690 SMCR) that i was gonna put it on but never bought the mount for. Now I have a 2020 Yamaha MT09.. my problem is that Scotts does not have a mount for that style damper. GPR has a really nice setup with the damper that mounts under the bar, to their riser mount. But GPR dampers always blow out and leak. Savage makes the damper mount style I like with it right up top above the bars.. If I knew for a fact that I could swap my Scotts to a Savage style mount I'd spend the money and do it just to have a good reliable damper.

Well the Savage and the Scott body and mounting points are identical. So if savage makes a mount for their Scott's knock-off then the real Scott damper will mount onto the Savage mount. The only thing you have to take into consideration is that metal lip at the bottom of the dampers. Scott has different lips to connect to different tank brackets. You'd have to buy the right one and swap to fit the Savage if they are not the same. As I should have stated in the video, my Savage damper is mounted onto a real Scott damper on my sv650 and I interchange it with the real Scott.

Good to know, I appreciate the reply.. I could always modify the pivot arm or make a new pin to fit the current arm I have. Im a machinist by trade.. I dont have time to do the R&D to create a new mount, but something small to make it work i could probably buzz out. Thanks again man 👍

They are identical. If u order the cases from Scots they are blanks no identifying marks as far as branding goes. I have a feeling that in not all but most of the parts used to build these dampeners are manufacturered in China. Example I lost the arm but on the bottom of my knock off unit. So I took a chance and ordered one from Scotts. "They are a one of a kind pitch that no one else uses. Fit like a glove. Now w that said I'm looking at buying the scotts when funds are available. The customer service is top notch... And that goes a long ways. Did the savage because I wanted to try a stabilizer out before I dropped $600 on one to find out I didn't like em

In the past i was wondering if i should buy those ebay fake steering but the reason why i purschased the real one but used, was because you don’t want to risk it in a ride. Juste imagine if the fake lock while you are intering a corner! Security first.

*SORRY SCOTTY THAT THEY CLONED YOU, WHAT A BUNCH OF SAVAGES*
The only small downside of teh savage is the knob indeed, other from that its close to identical to the scotts. I dont believe u had a lot of problems as you say with the savage, u only mention the problems of the real cheap one. Savage is 90% of the scotts qualiuty for 5 times less the price, and that is for the mayority of us the best buy.

I got the Savage brand and please,,,SAVE your money and buy Scott's,,, right out of the box it was leaking oil. The box inside already had some oil spill. I manage to refill it hoping that it was just a fluke.. Unfortunately it is leaking. The settings are really useless for fine tuning. It goes many clicks and no change just the last 3 clicks it starts dampening. The material is soft. The lever has a lot of movement before it engages. Waste of money!!!!
