- This Time I talk a bit about the Scotts Steering Damper and share my Thoughts about it. Have Fun.
I only tested 2 Settings
Damper Setting 1:
High Speed Stock
Low Speed Fully open
Sweep 44°
Damper Setting 2:
High Speed Stock
Low Speed Stock (8 Clicks from fully closed)
Sweep 44°
Rewatching this as I now bought one myself!
Congrats! 😄 Tell me if you like it as soon as you tested it
Great video. Adding the Scotts dampener to my 701 was a hard decision because of the cost. It really is worth it though. I even noticed a big improvement when riding on pavement as it eliminated steering wobble.
Thank you! I was also struggling if I should buy it and if it is worth the Money because I ride not that aggressive etc. but I can tell you: Yes! Even for Amateurs like me it is so helpful in many Ways! Have a good Ride Sir 😉
I know that steering wobble is generally a misconfiguration of the suspension but because we often change the loading of these bikes it's basically impossible to have a suspension configuration that ISN'T misconfigured for some uses. IMO the damper is an important component of an ADV focused 701... providing safer/more predictable steering over a wide range of load conditions.
Yep, unfortunately i have been told that this Damper is only for Pro Riders and High Speed use, but Boy, have I been wrong. I recommend to everyone to test it and to feel the Difference
You went faster through the whoops on setting 2. Now that could be because of more confidence or simply because of the damper. Either way, its not a fully fair comparison as higher speed will result in tracking straighter. (IMO you have to try and stick to the same speed through the whoops on setting 1 and 2)
I had a scotts on my 525, back in the day so I like them and not saying that its not a good option, but we sometimes have to be careful not to try and remedy poor suspension setup with a damper.
I was wondering about a damper for my 501 Rade-kitted rally bike too. Decided to rather get second hand Cone Valve forks instead for eur800. It tracks straighter and can now also handle much bigger impacts
Thanks for your Opinion, but 800 Euro is quite the Double of what I paid for the Steering Damper :) You also say that higher Speed will result in somer straighter Tracking but I think that I could reach the higher Speed only through the Damper cause you see how I tumble in the Sand without Damping… I could habe tried to drive faster but I really think I would have crashed between the Bumps.
So in my Opinion its a great Piece with some nice Price/Quality Relation. But you are right you can still get so much from a better Suspension but that will get very expensive because I want to do the Fork and Rear Shock, otherwise it would not make sense just Tune one Part. But thats just my Opinion ;) Have a nice Day and stay safe!
Thanks! It is a great and useful video
@@jean-pierremailloux392 Thank you :)
cheers. where did you find those swingarm guards?
Its from Dowatek but for a 450 FE. You need to make it fit and cut out some pieces
Great video!!! I have actually watched several of your videos. I have a 2021 690 and just ordered the K5 fairing. Couldn't get a lot of information on how good the wind protection was on the motorway just hopeful it is what i am hoping for.
Did you fix your over heating issue? My bike seems to run at about 96-99 degrees with an ambient temp of 43 Celsius. I live in Arizona. I tried to find what normal operating temp was but couldn't find any reliable info.
Now regarding the Scotts. My only question is regarding cornering off road. I find this bike hard to turn at times. Have you had any issue with tight turns since you installed the stabilizer?
Thanks again for the great vids. Really enjoy them.
Thanks, I appreciate that! :)
To the Scotts: As long as the Low Speed is set to the Standard Value of 8 Clicks I dont feel any Difference at all at cornering or tight Turns. But I think its different from Person to Person. The High Speed I still did not touch at all. I run the low Speed all the Time at 8, when I get into Sand I raise it accordingly.
Heat Issue: Up to now I solved it. Could have been three Resons, Dirt inside Radiator, burned Thermo Valve, incorrectly bleeded Water Circuit. I changed all three Items at once and right now the electrical Fan turns on much much more late as before. Also the lower Fender is doing its Job and getting more Air to the Radiator.
To the Windprotection: Of course it is much better, your Shoulders will feel more relaxed because you got no Wind onto your Chest. Air buffering on your Helmet depends on your Size and Helmet, here you just have to test. 👍🏻
Thank you - great video. Whose mounting did you use ?
Thank you. The complete Mounting came with the Rade Garage F5 Kit, you can choose to install it if you foresee to use a Scotts Damper or just simply leave it off.
What settings are you using for road and offroad?
Hallo!
Könntest Du bitte verraten, welches Scott Modell du gewählt hast?
Also Typenbezeichnung oder Artikelnummer.
@@Speelbird Vielen Dank
Hello my friend, can you tell me where you bought the swinqarm protectors? does it match 350FE?
Hi there, the Swingarm Protectors are from Dowatek and normally for some FE, you can check their Website for further Information 😉
Super informative Dom, I learned a lot! It kinda reminds me of a carb with all those o-rings 😅
How is the maintenance with it, since it has oil, needles and o-rings?
Thanks Johannes! I guess if you want to have a complete Rebuild/Service you have to send it in. Basic Oil Changes you can do by yourself every 2 Years und normal Riding Conditions (2.5 wt Oil). The Instructions are available at their Homepage and even special Tools if you may need them. 😉 How is your Project going on?
@@Speelbird That wasn’t that bad at all. Perhaps I’ll get one when I’ve finally recovered financially after getting to know you! 😬
It’s close to finished, just waiting for less road salt to bring out the beautiful thing!
I will never financially recover from this, too 😄
I am exited what you think after the first Ride!
I like your videos. I am also from germany and your english is very easy for me to understand. Thanks for the good explanation. Can you still use the steering lock with the steering damper on the 701? It looks narrow
Thanks :) Yes you can use the Damper with the Steering Lock without any Problems (at least with the Rade Garage Mounting System and on the 701). I also saw some Videos where it was not possible to turn the Key anymore, but that was on a 2020 KTM 690 with some other Mounting System. Where exactly are you from in Germany?
@@Speelbird Thanks for the information. Yes it seems to be more a problem with the KTM. Maybe the steeringangle or the mounting. I'm currently looking for the next bike and the 701/690 is interesting. At spring i want test some. Because i’m only 175 it’s not easy. I am from Regensburg.
Of course I recommend some Test Ride and if you like it you can still get some Linkage to lower the Bike 3 cm on the Rear and on the Front you just stick the Fork through ;) Or you think about some 790/890. Regensburg is to far away otherwise you could have tested mine
@@Speelbird I can test drive anything here. There are enough dealers. 790/890 is a nice(and in my eyes pretty) bike but i want to stay with the single cylinder. Is there a specific reason for you why you take the 701 instead of the 690?
@@markusleyerer8231 I thought that all 701 would have a Suspension with 275mm Travel and I wanted to have this 25mm more over the KTM 690. But from 2020 on they all have 250mm Travel… So its just the Design and that you dont see that much Husqvarnas on the Streets.
Hello mate :) Finally Scotts damper arrived. The link arms is a little loose, you know if I have to tightening it? i cant' find any information on scotts site. Thanks :)
Congrats :) I did not tight anything on mine and think that you should do so as well, I think you got some axial movement of the link arm? If i remember correct i had some as well
@@Speelbird Thanks :) yes link arm move left right, I was concerned if is necessary tighten a little bit or if the normal strenght :)
@@Speelbird I think is useful for someone else, I found that we have to use blue loclite on the threads and torque the 15mm nut at 27nm :)
@@dannym2330 thank for this information, i think this will be usefull for other riders :)
@@Speelbird :) Today installed the damper with rade garage pin holder but i see that there is not gap betwen holder and the round collar of the steering. Your also have no gap and a little bit of friction?
Great video. Did you get iit street legal?
The Tower?
@@Speelbird No, the scotts damper.
@@Marc-ql1mn Nope, I did not even think about that until now
@@Speelbird Although my TüV official did certify my rebelxsports rallytower on my KTM 690 the steering damper was a problem. Therefore I hesitated to buy one.
Are these Pirelli MT21 that she's wearing?
Yep, correct. These are Pirelli MT21, great Tire
You just need a high flow water pump kit now mate and thermo switch 👍
Please tell me some Manufacturer, never heard about that.
@@Speelbird AMBRO
@@Speelbird also the uprated fan kit off the 701 LR long range .
Thanks Mate!
@@Speelbird it will cool down better
