  • If you're a veteran seeking disability benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), you know how frustrating and time-consuming the process can be. With hundreds of thousands of claims being processed each year, it's no wonder that many claims are denied or delayed.
But don't let this discourage you from pursuing your rightful benefits. With some strategizing and preparation, you can increase your chances of getting approved and avoid wasting unnecessary time on unsuccessful claims.
Here are some tips to help guide you through the VA disability claims process:
    1. Understand the Requirements
First and foremost, it's important to understand the requirements for filing a VA disability claim. Make sure you have a clear understanding of the eligibility criteria, required forms and documentation, and how to submit your claim.
    2. Gather all Relevant Medical Evidence
One of the key components in obtaining VA disability benefits is providing sufficient medical evidence to support your claim. This includes records from both military and civilian doctors, as well as any relevant test results or treatment plans.
    3. Be Honest and Detailed in your Application
When completing your application, be honest and thorough with all the information you provide. This includes details about your injuries or illnesses, how they affect your daily life, and any relevant treatment or medications you are receiving.
    4. Keep Track of Deadlines
It's essential to stay on top of deadlines when filing a VA disability claim. Missing important dates can result in delays or denials of benefits. Make sure to keep track of all deadlines and submit required forms and documentation on time.
    5. Follow Up Regularly
After submitting your claim, don't just sit back and wait for a response from the VA. Follow up regularly to ensure your claim is being processed and to address any issues or concerns that may arise.
Navigating the VA disability claims process can be daunting, but with these tips in mind, you can effectively navigate through it and increase your chances of success. Remember to understand the requirements, gather all relevant medical evidence, seek assistance from a VSO or lawyer if needed, and stay diligent in following up on your claim. Most importantly, don't give up - you have earned these benefits and deserve to receive them. Thank you for your service! #VeteransStrong. \\ Keep advocating for yourself and your fellow veterans! So, don't waste any more time on unsuccessful claims, and start taking action towards obtaining the VA disability benefits you deserve today. Good luck!

I filed for TDIU (70% PTSD/OIF) and SSDI at the same time, over three years ago. I thought the VA would grant the TDIU first but it was the other way around. I had to go before an ALJ to win my case but it wasn't as much a hassle with social security, compared to the VA claim.

How about neural frost-bitesh foot damage from going up/down Mt. Fuji in the snow with Jungle boots on (11/75), on top of the shin splints from boot camp coming down Mt. Mthrfckr (10/74) ??

I don’t understand why you would have confidence in the 20 year rule if you don’t have confidence in the five or 10 year rule or the age 55 year old rule? What separates the 20 year rule from any of the other rules? Is there something written specific about the 20 year rule that doesn’t pertain to the other rules?

What is idiotic is they gave me 20% for pain, but denied the diagnosis that the VA PACT team said are service related, and likely associated with the pain. 🤢🤮

I must have lucked out then because I got the highest rating for my back and nerve pain in both legs without having to put up a fight. I also had a paper trail a mile long and I had been in physical therapy for 2 years, going in 3 times a week. So it's not like they could have said no there's no way this is service connected. What took me forever was getting a rating for my feet and the pain caused by wearing flat bottomed Army boots. I've been out 15 years and my feet still kill me and make it hard to walk. My issue is I have to walk everywhere I go because I cannot afford a car or truck and in America the public transit sucks because it doesn't go to the places I need to, so walking is my only option. I wish there was a program or a way for 100%, disabled veterans who have all their limbs to get help with buying a truck or car because eventually I won't be able to walk and then I'll be screwed.

Have to comment. Retired from the Army Infantry and SF after 21 years of service in 2003. Got a lowball 20% upon discharge. Last year, after watching your channel, taking your advice, and even subscribing to your Boot Camp, went from 20% to 100%. Still have some issues with unpaid backpay from claims I made 20 years ago, but, all in all, things are good, and you're the heat, Craig. I live in France, and, if I get motivated enough, I'll explain to expat vets some of the hoops they have to jump through to get compensated.

The back issue ratings are BS. Before I retired I was going to the emergency room at least twice a year because of lower back issues and even have files where the doctors said I needed to see a spine specialist BUT the military never sent me and I am retired and living in the Philippines now and my back has gone out on me several times and the hospitals here aren’t good so I am just stuck at home and unable to walk for a couple weeks which isn’t too bad because I have an amazing wife who takes care of me when that happens but it still pisses me off that I’m only rated at 10% for my lower back. I am rated at 100% P&T so that’s the good part BUT I’m still pissed at how they rate the back.

According to the IRS website, disabled veterans who receive an increase in their disability percentage from the Department of Veterans Affairs can claim a federal tax refund by filing Form 1040-X to amend their previous tax return. Have you filed before? If so, could you share how to file?

Thank You CC for all that you do; and specifically done for me! Your videos and boot camp has taken me from 30-80% in 18 months.
Had a denial for tinnitus, came back and won it 3 months later
I was awarded 80% last Thursday; but I noticed on my decision letter that my documented diabetic neuropathy, which I filed wasn't evaluated.
I had nerve conductivity & EMG testing with a letter from Nuerologist within my claim. They did rate me for sciatica/radiculopathy which I filed.
Now I'm worried about poking the bear by questioning why neuropathy was overlooked. Should I just let go at this point?

Is there a way to speak to you about current issues that active duty are experiencing with claims? I feel as though the DOD and VA need an overhaul and want to give insight on current issues that may be benefiicial.

Favorable findings aren't double speak, or obscure, it is a favorable finding and the manual says they have to use favorable findings. So if they say you have a favorable finding, say a diagnosis during a C&P exam, and you're missing the nexus then in the future if you submit a supplemental with a nexus and they say you don't have a diagnosis you can file a higher level review and point to the past rating decision with a favorable finding showing a diagnosis.
Now, it would be better to just have a fully developed claim from the start.
