Dude this movie was no where near Fallout, legacy characters were left out to dry and did basically nothing. The movie was non stop info dumps, every scene was trying to explain the story and what’s happening. The nice thing about nuclear threats is it’s so simple the movie doesn’t feel they need to explain to us but with the AI stuff it seemed like they was Ted to reexplain why this is dangerous every sequence.

Lastly, I think they did a good job of kind of sort of addressing the fact that it always felt a little cheesy in the previous ones whenever Ethan would talk about how much his team meant to him. I could never get on board with the team basically being his family, and it just felt forced, but this one does a good job of making his bond with them feel more authentic

I know this is kinda like a passion project for Cruise, and from everything I've heard, it seems to have panned out. It's nice to have something to look forward to after the Flash movie completely changed the Flashpoint story, and shoehorned in a fan-favorite portrayal of Batman to compensate for their garbage decisions in allowing an actual criminal to star as a beloved hero that children look to for inspiration. Both Cruise and McQuarrie (director and primary writer) come up with the ideas for set pieces, make a rough outline connecting them all together, and everything else is figured out basically as they’re shooting the film.

Watched this opening night and wow it was amazing. The casting was incredible, everyone had incredible chemistry with each other. Haley atwell was a great addition to the franchise. Gabriel was an incredible villain and the entire intro with the submarine and then the US government meeting was masterfully done. Had me hooked from the start. Stunts were incredible as always. I hope part 2 sticks the landing. If part 2 kills it then its better than fallout no doubt. Even the overarching threat is believable especially now that we are entering the age of A.I.
Spoiler warning: the only 2 nitpicks I have is with the plot convenience at the end of the film. Ethan parachutes through the train and conveniently takes out the bad guy who was gonna kill atwell's character. Was a very cool moment but very convenient and not believable. Also when they're climbing the falling train, it's a very tense scene and they get a little help to pull them up but they just cut to them being out of the falling train and onto the other cart. Was a little buzzkill coz I really wanted to see them climb out in it's entirety. Also, I don't see the flashback with Gabriel and Ethan as an issue just yet I'm sure they'll explain that more in part 2. If they don't then I think it'll be a waste. Doesn't take away from the movie at all. 9.8/10 from me.

the most impressive part of this MI is that despite the female heavy cast, no one, especially Hayley Atwell is oversexualized at all. Even Pom Klementieff's character, while dressed somewhat provocatively is an assassin first over anything. Atwell is constantly in long sleeves with a buttoned up blouse yet is the hottest thing in the movie, and that is a good thing. Vanessa "I'm not Lady Gaga" Kirby also sizzles in her pantsuit combos and even gives a brief comedic moment in the final act.
This is the first movie where Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg look older and more tired, hope the second movie gives them more to do.
The only sore point is that the movies are always tempted to show Ethan's boss, when the faceless voice is one of the MI staples. The Alec Baldwin character in Fallout clearly established that the CIA director is not the IMF director, yet here they are one and the same man and even answering to the Director of Intelligence (who more resembles an MI villain)
