I've been watching I Love Lucy ever since I was a kid. I love seeing this in color because Lucy had some gorgeous dresses and being able to see what they look like really makes you appreciate color. And sing all the other actors in color in the backgrounds really makes you appreciate this show so much more.❤❤❤❤❤
This is really cool to see these clips in color. We're watching them just like the audiences that watched the show live back in the 1950s during taping sessions, would have seen them!
It's such a breath of fresh air that their are still some people who like the simpler things in life......... That what Lucy was all about. I am a big big fan. She has provided nothing but endless laughs for decades.😁💁🏽♀️
I love the show too. But I'm in the group of fans that believes that colorization never looks right or natural. The people who do the process cannot possibly know all the correct hues for every prop and shirt and wall; the majority of this is guesswork ("We'll make the kitchen curtains yellow", etc etc). The only things we can copy correctly in colorization are based on the still photos or the limited pieces of footage that were actually shot in color on the _I Love Lucy_ set back in the '50s. Nothing wrong with black and white. It gives the classic shows from yesteryear a certain charm. I'd hate if someone added color to The Twilight Zone; that would change its particular vibe completely, all those deep shadows and stark whites and cool grays. Plus, I used to hate when they colorized the first seasons of Bewitched or Gilligan's Island on cable TV ... it always looked fake and tacky.
@@eduardo_corrochio I agree and by the way, in TV shows shot in b&w, the sets and costumes are mostly gray scale for b&w cinematography. So the studio audience did not see all these colors. If you look at what few color photos there are of this or any other TV show shot in b&w, they are mostly dressed in shades of black, white and various shades of gray. If you look at the early 1960's "The Lucy Show", CBS' on-going grudge against filming and broadcasting in color due to RCA (which owned NBC) winning the NTSC electronic color standard, Lucille Ball was so done with CBS' anti-color stance that she paid out of her own Desilu pockets to film the first 2 seasons in color. However, CBS refused to broadcast the episodes in color. Only years later in rerun syndication did we see the first 2 seasons in color. But because they were being broadcast in b&w, even though color film was used, the sets were mostly still decorated in gray scale. When CBS finally came gave in to color about 1965-66 season, "The Lucy Show" was at last filmed and broadcast in color, its sets and costumes were re-done for color TV.
Wow, love this colorization! My mom was a kid when this show started. She hated the plots , cuz Lucy always creates her own problems! On the opposite, I grew up watching from the late 70s 'til now, and I still LOVE sitcoms! Sure wish and hope Lucy knew the Lord!. Would be so awesome to talk to her about all her shows! Thanks Ross117!! Luv your channel!
Loving this. Makes me want to watch every. single. one. again! I just love looking around the room at the décor as much as I enjoy their wardrobe! Thank you!
To just piggyback on Nelli. This was also before the civil rights movement, back when political figures were still getting assassinated. It’s less than a century after slavery *kind of* ended. Let’s not even mention gay rights. So, who was America better for?
I miss them too Hope they come back on in the early morning and then the golden girls they have been off for Christmas. Hopefully! They both come back after new yr. Love the colonization cool!
Episodes like "The Diet" and "The Million Dollar Idea" not only make mw hungry but they make me appreciate home cooked meals with homemade everything. I've gone so far as to make my own dressings and sauces.
It bothers me about how much they would poke fun at Ethel's weight, when Vivian Vance was actually 6 years younger than and could be just as glamorous as Lucille Ball. BTW, compared to the people I see in public nowadays, Ethel Mertz was SKINNY 😂😂😂
She was actually 2 years older than Lucy, but I get your point. If I remember correctly, her contract required her to be a certain weight (like 10lbs heavier than Lucy or something like that). It's crazy to think that someone of average weight being called fat. Those were the times with its own standard of beauty 🤷🏽♀
Lucy and Ethel actually wear the same dress sometimes. (It’s trimming had little arrows along the pockets I think.) why they always play her like she’s bigger than Lucy?!
Haha I don’t colorize these episodes, only 16 have been colorized by CBS. If you like this I would recommend purchasing the I Love Lucy Colorized Collection, a dvd set with all the colorized episodes (Except 1).
Yeah the colors are accurate, they used old design sketches, technology, and old on set color footage to get the colors. They then do it frame by frame, I think I saw a thing somewhere that said each episode took 20 hours to do!
Vivian Vance was very talented. I'm not sure she gets the credit she deserves. And no matter how hard they tried to make her dumpy, she was still pretty.
While the original black and white will always have its classical charm, there is something kinda great about finally know what colors everything was. Their clothes, their furniture, Lucy's home decor and decorations, it's something I really loved seeing.
I would love it if they colorized all the episodes. I have all the seasons of I Love Lucy including the Lucy and Desi Comedy Hour on DVD and I've seen every episode many times. But if they were all colorized it would be like watching each episode for the first time. All it takes is someone in a position of power to care and put it together. It's also interesting to see the color of the clothing they wore back then. It's not even close to what I thought it was.
Like you, I have all the episodes and have watched them many many times. ♥️ I just don’t love it in color. Do you think these are the real colors of their clothing? I don’t know the process of “colorizing” it, so I always wonder how they come up with the colors. The film is black and white. How would anyone know now what color everything was? This looks like a totally different show in color. It certainly has always been impossible not to laugh at Lucy.
It really does, they did an excellent job colorizing it!
Wow watching the same color makes me appreciate their wardrobe and their decorating it’s beautiful
2:51 😂”Smells like Aunt Martha had too many old fashions!”
I love seeing Lucy's red hair and color adds a depth to the fashion back then.
I think so too!
I super agree about the fashion…I never got a grasp of the style until now
Outstanding colorization. Perfect 50’s era hews. Brings this wonderful show to life.👏
The colorization they did on this was amazing!
Watching Ricky as he empties the purse, would be great in a vlog of "What's in my purse?"😂

They should really re-release it in color on streaming services
I think one day when the technology gets cheap enough they will.
Does this show the true colors or was it simply colorized (via guessing games)?
They were all so young & beautiful. I miss the 1950's. It was a much better time to be alive in America.

Well maybe consider how condescending it was towards women first.
