I had the pleasure of meeting and talking with Robert at the Lucy Birthday Festival weekend Jamestown NY. We enjoyed it so much we stayed an extra day. So very pleasant, and so very down to earth. Never rushed through the meet and greet. He even gave me a kiss on the cheek. In his words " you waited patiently in line---you deserve a kiss". 😊😊😊 Miss him😭😭😭😭😭😭😭but I am so greatful to have met and had the opportunity to talk with him..👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
lucy obsessively shaped and drew her eyebrows. if you find pictures of her in her 20s with natural eyebrows, she looked much better. but that was the style back then. like lana turner's pencil thin eyebrows
This made me feel so wonderful ; to see them so in love. As a kid I saw the reruns in the 60s. At 64, I have their collection on DVD And I know that everybody can recited all the lines. I do 😆 Rest in peace Lucy and Desi Happy holidays Stay safe Greetings from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷
Lucy's persona that she exudes in this is so much different from that of her Lucy Ricardo character--which testifies to her acting skills and comic genius.
This featurette is amazing! Lucille Ball looked so much younger than she really was (and so pretty), and Desi Arnaz was so handsome. Thank you for posting.
This so interesting!! Normally when I see “old school” Hollywood stars, they looked so much older than their actual age. Lucy looks so young and fresh for 40!
Yes. Lucy never looked better! Wonderful show they gave us!👏The wear and tear took its toll, however. After 180 episodes and a rocky marriage, by the end of the decade Lucy and Desi looked older than their years.💛
@@ramongonzalez2112 Actually Desi looked to be in his 60's when Lucy remarried Gary Morton - she looked great. After a few years when Desi remarried Edith, he began to look better too. The worst he ever looked was after Lucy got remarried. Almost like he could not believe it - and could not endure it. His daughter said he was devastated.
Note at the very beginning of studio testing.. Lucille Ball looked AMAZING and so beautiful even without all the extra makeup. Such a dynamic, brilliant and loving partnership ❤ We all love Lucy and Desi.
No question about it! Lucy & Desi were absolutely in love with one another. You can see it in this hair/makeup video - their chemistry is overwhelming! It must have been a very exciting time for them with a new show, a new baby, and the opportunity to finally work together! Glad to see this film…..I didn’t know it existed. Thank you!!
Yes, the anticipation of working together, and making a pilot that could make or break their careers; and Lucy hoping to save their marriage! Needless to say, Desi and especially Lucy captivated America with their show.👏😊
I just watched Lucie Arnaz talking about the last time Lucy and Desi reminisced and watched old Lucy episodes together when Desi was on the verge of passing away in 1986 but now it is wonderful seeing them as a younger couple deeply in love not knowing how successful their venture would be. Lucy actually thought the show would last maybe one year. HA!!
What a wonderful treat to watch their behind the scenes tests from 1951, on this the first day of 2022. And to see & hear dear Robert Osborne, l so miss him. Thank you for this gift.
Magnificent footage. They looked so fresh and young. Ball was gorgeous. Compare this to 6 years later, after feverishly producing 180 episodes, and Lucy enduring Desi’s affairs.😔What a wonderful gift they gave us all!💛😊
I've been watching since a little girl, then after school every day, and now, in my 60s, I still watch it every time it comes on. Still love it so much and always will.
This was and still is my favourite show of all time. Nothing else even comes close to date.❤️ I’ve never seen this footage before so thanks for sharing.❤️
Thank you for this fantastic video! Lucy and Desi were an amazingly talented couple. Their deep love is so evident in these tests. On another note, I miss Robert Osborne 😔As a devoted TCM fan who goes back to TCM's inception, Mr Osborne was so knowledgeable about all things Hollywood and had an encyclopedic knowledge of actors, directors, Academy Awards, you name it. Thanks again for this treasure and I wish you a blessed Holiday Season and New Year!
Btw Robert Osborne was in Lucille Ball's theatre group and it was she that recommended he go into the field that he went into rather than acting. She felt he was particularly gifted in this - and was she correct. Lovely to think that Lucy tried to help young people getting into show business as Lela Rogers (Ginger Roger's mother ) had helped her.
Honestly, I loved the repeated clothes. Seemed more realistic, especially on Ethel. It's a pet peeve of mine when t.v. shows have the stars wear an outfit only once.
Love this Lucy & Desi footage❣️Good times for them at this stage. My siblings & I watched I Love Lucy show daily including reruns, still watching 📺 & laughing. No question Lucy & Desi were genius in their own right. Desi created the syndicated TV show, brilliant business man & President of Desilu productions 💗
Once in a while I see a thumbnail in my RUclips recommendations, and then I am absolutely thrilled once I have clicked on it. I am so grateful that this footage is available for fans of Lucy and Desi to enjoy. What a thrill to see. I have loved "I Love Lucy" since my childhood in the 1970's. Thanks so much! 🥰 And have a very Happy New Year!
Yes! I miss Robert Osborne too! Such knowledge about films, stars, behind the scene anecdotes, etc! Lucy & Desi were an amazing couple! They both loved and respected each other’s skill, talent and how they their energy between them was so wonderful! He really broke her heart, she wouldn’t have divorced him if he could’ve toned down his partying ways. Some people aren’t meant for marriage, but I know he loved her immensely! Lucy was a very hardworking person and a think pretty tough at times. Anyway we’re all grateful for them and the whole show! I always watch it when I’m flipping channels.🤩😍🌈
Priceless and memorable episodes! They really loved each other and I had no idea, that Lucy was older than Desi! What a youthful couple! I loved that show and will watch reruns when they are shown! We all loved Lucy! Excellent review Robert!❤ 🎬❤ 📽
I just found out about the age difference a couple days ago. What does it for me is that Lucy really, truly, loved Desi. You can tell by the fact she didn't want her name before his in the title! Not many actors nowadays would do that today!
I binge watched every season recently so this was a real treat, thank you! My grandmother told me that during the first run of the show, everyone watched when I Love Lucy was on. And anyone with a TV could expect visitors!
They’re such a beautiful couple. I loved the show, I was seven when it began. And I was broken hearted when they divorced. I remember my Mom and Dad having a big argument over watching I Love Lucy or Gunsmoke (I think). Must have been the only time my Dad won. No problem for my Mom, since everyone watched it she just went to a neighbors house and joined them. My favorite show was the Vitameatavegetarian commercial.🤣
Lucy helped define the 1950s and 1960s. Hollywood hadnt seen a Lucille (an actress who owned and managed a studio) since Mary Pickford in the era of Silent Movies. People always say Lucille was sweet and loving but tough, controlling, a taskmaster. Let me tell you that if you knew someone who lived thru the 1930s depression, someone who knew death and poverty and hunger then there were Lucille's all over the country. Lucille was much more identifiable than we think of today. There were actresses and TV shows I liked better but as I get older...I grow to appreciate her and Desi so much more.
Lucy looks so different in this footage. Her face is softer and prettier than on the show and her manner is more feminine. Fascinating that she really did transform herself for the role. Regarding Robert Osborn’s opinion that the footage shows how much they loved each other, he’s not telling the complete story. Both Lucy and Ricky would later confess that going to work on the show was the only time they were happy as a couple. It was an escape from their real life unhappiness. With cameras rolling and crew watching, they portrayed a couple in love, but when they left the set the pretend happiness didn’t carry over into real life. So sad when I heard them reveal that.
This was delightful to watch! Their love and chemistry is so obvious! Despite the problems they had in their marriage I think that both of those qualities remained between them throughout their lives.
I love the "I Love Lucy" show. 💖 God, Lucy and Ricky were gorgeous and talented folks. Hispanic men, especially Cuban men can charm the pants off of me - I think because I'm a true redhead and they want their "Lucy" too, lol. 😁
What a beautiful couple. I have been watching I Love Lucy since childhood. I can never get tired of them. Lucy was madly in love with him. Who wouldn’t be? He was handsome 😍
So cool! It’s always nice to see behind the scenes footage such as this. Such a good looking couple! I never knew it existed. Thank you for posting! ✌🏻🙂✌🏻
She was such a genius at facial expressions
I miss Robert Osborne. And TMC has never been the same without him.
Agree! His warmth and genuine personality have not been nearly replaced!
Totally agree

Oh Amen!!
I have depression and anxiety and this show gives me great comfort. I watched as a child and still do at 56. I even named my vintage trailer Lucy.
World's greatest FREE anti-depressant = I LOVE LUCY
@@scotnick59 definitely She and Carol Burnette
I named my white kitty Lucy as a teenAnd my handsome Norwegian Forest cat is named DESI
Same here
,😥♥️
How very, very pretty Lucy was! And what a treat to hear Robert Osborne. What an elegant, charming, sweet, knowledgable man.
Lucy looks So Pretty! Desi looks So Young and Handsome!
Desi was gorgeous. I love Javier Bardem but he didn't have that Desi sparkle.
lucy obsessively shaped and drew her eyebrows. if you find pictures of her in her 20s with natural eyebrows, she looked much better. but that was the style back then. like lana turner's pencil thin eyebrows
I miss Robert Osburne! He was such a consummate host and storyteller.
I love the way they looked at each other. So sad it didn't last. 💔
This made me feel so wonderful ; to see them so in love.
As a kid I saw the reruns in the 60s.
At 64, I have their collection on DVD

She was so beautiful.
She was so funny we tend to forget just how beautiful she was.
Exactly, thank you for mentioning this - what stood out in the program was how very beautiful and real she looked.
I wish this video was longer. Lucy looks great in these clips. You really can see how much they loved each other without any words.
its 2021 and i am still watching I love Lucy and arguably the greatest show of all time
What a wonderful treat to watch their behind the scenes tests from 1951, on this the first day of 2022. And to see & hear dear Robert Osborne, l so miss him. Thank you for this gift.
Love that she says "stop, that's inappropriate" when he tries to nibble her ear in the beginning of the clip
WOW! I am so impressed that you caught that. I didn't. Thank you.
I love Lucy. The name of the show now means more then it even did to me. Thanks we who love lucy love you too. Thanks a million for this treat. 😊😊😊😊

Makes me so sad..what wonderful talents..I miss them.
Oh wow I literally have tears of joy
This was so much more interesting than the movie!!!
Amen!!
Wow, the chemistry is very evident. They look so genuine, happy and relaxed. Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful footage!
I've been watching since a little girl, then after school every day, and now, in my 60s, I still watch it every time it comes on. Still love it so much and always will.

They're both so BEAUTIFUL!
Robert Osborne was a Treasure.
Just beautiful....nice to see how humble actors were before...genuine...did not know she was that much older than Desi..
A great presentation by a great man. Rest in peace you wonderful people.
Even though they couldn't have a normal marriage, I'm glad they did get a chance at it in I Love Lucy. Thanks Lucy & Desi for all you've given us! ❤
Thank you so much, he was great to present too
Desi was gorgeous too!

He was a friend of Lucille Ball. There’s a great podcast that TCM put out about her and Desi’s life together . It’s great 👍🏻

They looked so happy
Rip beautiful Robert osbourne ty for sharing these beautiful memories of Lucy n desi😁🇨🇦🇨🇦
Wow this is awesome, thank u for posting.
She looked amazing 😍
I just found and watched the Desliu Review from 1959. Mr. Osborne was quite the singer.
Honestly, I loved the repeated clothes. Seemed more realistic, especially on Ethel. It's a pet peeve of mine when t.v. shows have the stars wear an outfit only once.
Yes, I loved how many times I saw particular outfits on Lucy - felt more realistic.
Wow that was great to see! She was SO blown away by him, she looks like him with adoration. Sweet
I Love Lucy.Best show that ever was aired.Love them both.A Beautiful couple.
Now 70 years have passed since these screen tests....
She was so beautiful....
What a gift they gave to the world. Continuous joy a gorgeous couple.
I never realized Desi was 6 years younger than Lucy! They were a Beautiful couple
Her next husband Gary was 13 years younger; also one of Carole Burnette's husbands was over 20 years younger than she.
Desi was so gorgeous! (Lucy too).
Amazing Lucy and Desi footage and the narration by Robert O. makes it even better. Thanks for posting.

this is on the S1 I Love Lucy blu-ray that came out in 2014
Lucy had been a New York model for years.
laughter and love in our darkest hours - yes well said.
