Love them both.... 2 of the greatest who had absolute respect for and adored each other. There at the end, she knew better than to leave that door open for him!! 🤣
The difference with television today is the sterility. There was a laid back, off the cuff feeling of television then. Around the 1990s, it all became so very obviously commercial. Of course it always was, but today it’s pushed down everyone’s throats. Think of David Letterman, he was constantly at odds with NBC and his antics. Today, he’d be canned in a heartbeat, as he pretty much was, come 1992.
Guess what, it's almost 50 years later and I'm still watching Lucy and Carson on this crazy thing they would have never imagined back then, called the internet.
Here we are, 44 years later and yes, Johnny, we're still watching both of you. I'm sure I'll still be watching when we hit that 50 year mark. Miss you both.
I introduced my kids a couple of years ago to Lucille Ball via RUclips. the one I chose was the chocolate factory, where she & Viv ended up eating most of the chocolates. Such a classic. May she RIP
My Dad had a voice that always put me to sleep. When I couldn't I would go on the couch and he would start talking and out like a light. I sure do miss him
@@jamespfitz No, it's not rough. The drinking canceled out the smoking...Her voice was always a little rough, forcing it was part of the character she played.
Late night tv has been dead since Letterman, ferguson. You could include john stewart and the Colbert report. Not Colbert s late show, that sucks. But Johnny was the start of late night and really rode it through it's glory days. Late night tv in a way lived and died with Carson
And do you know why? He was smart, well educated, worked on himself a lot, had a style, and confidence, was very versatile, always came fully prepared, and on top of that, as a cherry on the top, had a great sense of humor. These hosts nowadays have only a segment of what he had and are there only to fill up the show with some kind of mediocre content in order to sell us some unnecessary and usually harmful products during commercials.
That was a very strange interview. o Of course I respect Lucille Ball and love her work but I think kudos go to Johnny for being able to make that interview work.
She will forever be one of a kind...Just a comedic miracle. I just bought a huge set of I Love Lucy shows from the 1950's. A box full of fun, helpful during these crap times. Jerry Lewis movies, too. He's fantastic. Zany and fantastic!
And 44 years later, since the 1977 air date of the Jonny Carson show, I love Lucy and the here’s Lucy shows are still very enjoyable, entertaining and hilarious! 🤣
episode 3667: Desk- "Suggestions and Questions from Audience for Johnny" the other guests were Erma Bombeck, Jay Leno and Joey Heatherton. Thursday. Annie Hall opened in theaters the Friday before.
Years later, still watching Lucille Ball Dean Martin show and movies and the great Johnny Carson. Nobody comes even close to these stars years later. They were true talent
yah somehow 50 years , both are dead now , it was painfull to lose dean martin , but come on also here is johnny , in the memory of Lucille Ball , i heard that , yaah what a lost ! in case you missed , don rickles , yup they are waaay back then ... am expecting , bob new hart , talk show , scratch that , gone ... i don't , know , if he still the are you my second husband !? yah they all look fun now , " waitting for the elevator , am not your 2nd husband also " !??? The earliest television, and I think Lucy still holds up pretty well, but then again, I'm biased. I watched "I Love Lucy" in the early seventies, when I was a teenager, stuff that was made 20 years earlier. I watch it today through those same eyes and still think it's great. It made me tear up a bit when Johnny asked if she'd be remembered in 50 years. I still remember you, Lucy! I refuse to use past tense: you are a brilliant comedic actor. No small thanks to the great Vivian Vance! Love you, Lucy! And you too, Johnny!
Johnny Carson RUclips channel owners and managers ~ Could you *please please increase the volume of your videos* to a normal or preferably even louder (for your subscribers over 60) volume so we can fully enjoy them without heavily relying on CC’s which distracts from your *amazing content?* Thank you so much. Lucille Ball and Carol Burnett the two best female comedians ever...no one even comes close and yes Johnny we are still watching you all these years later
OMG I've been binge watching Lucy interviews because I just ended watch Being The Ricardos (LOVED IT!) and I almost instantly knew she was a Leo she is so commanding and talks over people and is of course funny and entertaining, I knew it because im a Leo RIP
Yes, Lucy and John. 45 years later, and you two are still cracking us up with things many of us have seen multiple times. Damned funny is damned funny no matter when it was made.
Carson, so patient so polite no matter who his guest is, it's not just because its Lucille Ball. I thought lucy's gift was kind of unpleasant though. I'm not sure I would have liked a couple of hand fulls of dirt covered squirming worms dumped into my palms.
I couldn't believe how rude lucy was.she became so powerful in the industry.she was certainly a good actor,as she could be very difficult and bawdy.she was nothing like the ditsy, likeable woman in her comedies.i've seen worse interviews with her incl. With jonnie.she acted like she preferred her son to her daughter when they were on imterviews with her.
My dads favorite show….How right he was too. Those were the good old days, and I had no idea how good ! I’m now 61 yrs old. Johnny, Lucy, and Ed are long gone. The Tonight Show in the era was something that it won’t ever possibly be again ! 🥂 to Johnny Carson & Ed McMahon !
Love Johnny Carson.. Since I was born in Wusterhaven Berlin Germany. When my parents moved to United States when I was little, after my parents divorced. lived with my mother's sister and her husband. I started watching classic shows and movies, the movies and tv shows of today, are just to violent, not saying that all of them are, I just prefer old shows and movies.. Love you Lucy😘😘🥰 I'm still watching " I LOVE LUCY" she's such a treasure. After 44 years, Johnny Carson still going strong.
The best of times. There will NEVER EVER be another Johnny Carson. So miss him. Quit watching night shows waste of time, and did I mention, they have no talent and definitely NO CLASS‼️
Poor Lucy. She was emotionally wrecked in later life. It was tragic, honestly. She once said at a meeting, "my name is Lucille Ball. I was on TV once." The air went out of the room.
50 years.......... not too far off. When I was in grade school, my bedtime was 9 p.m., except on Monday nights. My mom let me stay up to watch Lucy. I still laugh at every episode. Everyone has their favorites, mine are mostly the California shows. I love when William Holden and John Wayne appeared. Who can’t laugh when Lucy’s nose lights up? And when she and Ethel dropped John Wayne’s footprints “YOU SCARED ME!”. People will still be watching in 100 years.
Out of 21,215 people who have watched this video, I expected at least 20,000 to push that "like" button. Instead, I guess, over 20,000 people didn't know what and who they were watching - two of the shiniest celebrities show business has ever seen. RIP Lucile, RIP Johnny! You were the best, and we're watching them almost after those 50 years that Johnny mentioned in the show. And he was right when he said that even after 100 years, people (at least some people) will watch them on RUclips or some similar platform/app existing in 2077.

Lucille ball walking in and out through those curtains like a boss.
Wow 44 years from when this aired, pretty close
The earthworm thing was bizarre lol
3:00 and Johnny correctly predicted about watching her show 50 years later.
Amazing, right?

Well Lucy’s show came on in the 50s so we are watching I Love Lucy almost 70 years later. Crazy
I've seen a lot of guests challenge Johnny but Lucille is the only one who's able to keep him on his toes. Great gal and wonderful talent
She’s the only one with the clout to do it.
Huh? Johnny was never not on his toes!
Almost 50 years and *I love Lucy* is still hilarious!
She was such a treasure.
👍 They both were.
Why does tv sucks now sad
Lucy really opened a can of worms!
My grandfather was deaf, but I was told he always laughed while watching Lucy shows. I think that is so neat!
That is really cool.
This is WAY funnier than anything on TV today!
I would want Mr. Carson to read me a goodnight story. His voice is the most calming thing I've ever heard.
that's what people used to fall asleep to almost every night and here I am listening in 2021 when I think I watched this when it first aired in '77.
My Dad had a voice that always put me to sleep. When I couldn't I would go on the couch and he would start talking and out like a light. I sure do miss him
True, but you know that's a smoker's voice, just like Lucy's.
