- The first video in a new I Love Lucy best moments series. (This time in color!)
Fun fact: This video was posted on April 26th, the anniversary of Lucille Balls death. RIP - Приколы
Hello everyone, I recently created an account with buy me a coffee, a site where creators can get funded. Anything is greatly appreciated, and 20% of every dollar will go to the charity Feeding America. The link is here 'www.buymeacoffee.com/ross117 ', on my channel about page and in the description of my videos. Thank you so so much everyone, I hope to continue many more years of creating content
What most folks today forget is that the original run of I Love Lucy ran for 6 seasons (1951 to 1957). The show had been on television for over 40 years by the time I started watching it in the early 90s. Millennial here by the way. Today, if you are just discovering this television gem, it is now over 70 years old. To put it into more perspective, in terms of time, I Love Lucy has survived so many changes to how we watch programming. It went through television having color, television having knobs, television having remote controls, television having rabbit ears, television being flat-screen, television going from analog to digital, cable television, streaming, and where we are gathered today, RUclips. There is no doubt that this show will remain long after I'm gone.
It's crazy the longevity it holds!
"I Love Lucy" will still be around long after the pyramids are dust.
😊😊😊
I started watching in the early 90s as well. I still remember watching it whenever I was home sick from school and every day in the summer. There used to be nick at nite in the summer and Tuesday nights were Lucy nights! A few hours of back to back episodes. Today I have the entire series on DVD. Funny how a show that aired years before I was born is one of my most favorite shows ever.
It was good family programming. Parents didn't have to worry about profanity, etc.😊😊
I am 60 years old. Been watching since I was three.😊🥰
😃
Same age and same here!
I’m 51 and have been watching since 4 years old. They never, ever get old. It truly has stood the test of time.
im 28, been watching since im 3 also =]
I’m 20 and been watching since I was 5
"What was the matter with $10?" Fred had the best one liners.
I know right!
Also, Lucy's "It's a happy little loaf, isn't it" LOL 🍞
Ethel's beauty really comes through in the color version.
It really does!
Wow, it's like an entirely different viewing experience .... the colors are so vivid and realistic. This could be billions more in syndication/royalty monies!
For real!
Except Lucy's hair is a bit overdone.
There's just something astonishing about seeing something in beautiful color when you saw it before in black and white
Yes! So cool. We 💙❤💚🖤💜🧡 Lucy/Ricky/Ethel/Fred in any/no color. 📺
@@tonynegron1927 😀
I wish they’d make the whole series/set in color. I’d repurchase it immediately ❤️
Me too! I think one day they will when the technology gets advanced enough.
They do.
I 2nd that🙋🏾♀
@@kimberlythompson16 where??
@@kimberlythompson16 From my understanding there's only 16 done.
If you're wondering why some of the fashion looks really garish (like the bizarre hot pink apron over a bright blue dress at 3:04), it's because these colors read differently in black and white :) So they were styled with how the clothes would look in black and white in mind
Thats right! While colorizing, if the colors wouldn't have looked good they would replace them with less garish colors.
"And he will make the face of heaven so fine, that all the world will be in love with night, and pay no worship to the garish sun."--Romeo and Juliet
Not sure what folks are talking about. This type of colorizing isn't some AI that magically "knows" what color things were. It's a very human-driven art. Humans have to do research to find out what colors things were, or make educated guesses. It's like coloring in a coloring book. The digital technology is just a tool to implement those human decisions.
Some of the colors were also adjusted a bit for broadcast television. There is a color photograph of the entire set while in construction and the kitchen was painted in a mustard yellow. Not sure what the name of that color is. They kept changing colors as the show progressed. The living room walls and doors were painted in shades of gray. They did get the green hallway correct and the bedroom was blue. Too bad we can't post pics here.
Correct, this is why the Addams Family set, if you look at BTS photos, are all in pink!
I'm convinced again, they had some really GREAT writers and the perfect cast
I always think that too!
Originally Bea Benaderet was set to play Ethel's role, but something happened to change that- thank goodness! I liked BB, but she was no Ethel! If you remember, she played the elderly lady widow that Lucy was trying to fix up with the grocery store man. That was a hilarious episode!
“What do you know about rice?”
“Well I had it thrown at me on one of the darkest days of my life”
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
That’s one of my favorite parts!
@@Ross-117 me too! Lol
My favorite Fred line was when Lucy and Ethyl decided they were going to make themselves up as glamorous. Lucy was in the room with Fred and Ricky when Ethyl knocked on the door. Fred jumped up and Lucy said, "don't get up Fred, I'll get it Fred said, "get it? I was gonna LOCK IT."
@@billp4 😂
"Look at the salads"
"Look at the pastries"
"Look at the prices" lmao😂😂😂😂
Haha I love that part!
@@Ross-117 that part will never get old. Its one of my favorite scenes in i love lucy
Lol I can relate to Fred 😂
4:08😂😂😂😂
4:07😂😂😂😂
It’s 2022 and I still lose it at that bread scene, every time. 😂🍞
Me too!
I loved Lucy, but I also loved Ethel. She was hilarious also!!
I agree!
As a huge "I Love Lucy" fan, this was a delight to watch! 😍
Thank you!
major fan i collect her stuff
Amazing technology to make this happen. I'm sure it took a ton of work. Awesome!
It really is amazing!
Yoooo. Love your channel man. Glad to know I’m not the only metal head that loves classic TV.
I've watched I Love Lucy all my life from my teens all the way up to now as a middle aged guy, and I think this is the first time I've ever seen these in perfect color!! What a major difference. It makes you see the 1950's as everyone else did back then when they lived it. The outfits and costumes they all wore came to life! Thank you for this work; it's sensational. You could however tell when certain patterns like small checkered clothing like Lucy had on was a little difficult for the software, but it's only when it's far away. Up close it's perfect. Thanks again!!
Of course!
I was born in late 1956. I Love Lucy was on in reruns my entire life. It was one of the best things about being home sick from school, lying in bed and watching Lucy, Ricky, Fred and Ethel.
Always loved I Love Lucy. Still a classic.
Me too!
I'm 62 and I still watch and treasure this show ! Miss all of them so much!
Im 65 years old been watching since like 1960 or 1961 ! Really love watching the reruns ! Very awesome TV show !
I have been watching the show since I was little too! Glad you enjoyed it!
I Love Lucy was my all time favorite growing up. Today at 57 years old I STILL love watching my DVD collection of hers!!!!😁♥️
I always watch this show with my grandmother. She use to watch this when she was a kid.
I loved this show as a child, in fact it’s the main reason why even learned English!! And just today I found out that Lucy is a red head and not a blondie. thanks to this video. 💀
Haha it suprised me how many people found out by watching this!
I love this in color I wish they would make the complete series in color I'd buy them it's like watching new episodes even though I've seen them all thousands of times watching them in colors like watching them for the first time
Me too!
Im 35yrs old, been watching I Love Lucy since I was 9yrs old, with my sister, on Nick-at-Nite. I never get sick of it. Its really cool to see the colors. I never imagined their kitchen was a weird dark green color with yellow appliances 😂 NOTE: IT WAS TITLED THE BEST OF I LOVE LUCY, BUT IT WAS JUST CLIPS OF 2 DIFFERENT EPISODES(FIRST 3MINS WERE OF SAME EPISODE('JOB SWITCHING') AND THE REST WERE FROM 'POINEER WOMEN' WITH A FEW HOLLYWOOD CLIPS THROWN IN LOL
Haha yeah, I intend to eventually make a part two with more episodes but when I find funny moments I go through episodes and they end up getting bunched together like this.
How did you find the color episodes??
@@misstiff2216 I got them in the I Love Lucy Complete Colorized Collection. There are only a few episodes that have been colorized from the series.
@@Ross-117 Oh really?? So there's a DVD set/collection out there in color but only a few episode's are offered in color? Not the whole series huh??
@@misstiff2216 Yeah, you can find it on Amazon. I think it has 16 episodes, and they colorize a new one every year for the Christmas special.
To think they’re dressed in prairie clothes. That style would’ve been just as old to them as I love Lucy’s contemporary style is to us
That's crazy! I never thought about it that way before!
Yes. Circa 1900 clothes. Of course, Fred dated back to that time so he liked the clothes.
I've been watching this show since I was a kid in the 80s! I've always loved it!! I love seeing it in color , and always loved all 4 characters❤❤❤ especially little Ethel❤❤
I wish every episode had color. You can see so much more detail to everything.
Very true == and more "contrast" as well
Agreed. Some people don’t like the colors but I love them personally.
Black and white was done to perfection back then. I grew up on watching them in black and white, so that's what I'm use to. Still great though in either version.
@@brkitdwn love it in black and white oh, that's what I'm used to seeing it in
Detail and CONTRAST
Fun to see it in color, very well done too! The only thing that looks very unnatural is Lucy's hair. If you look at color photos, her hair color looked very different (a softer shade red). But still, well done:) must have takes ages to colorize all this!
Haha thanks so much! I didn’t color it though 😂 CBS did and it must have taken ages!
I discovered I Love Lucy clear back in 2003. I am 50 and still in love with I love Lucy
Me too!
Oh my gosh! I'd love to have the whole series colorized. I love, I love Lucy
Thank You for bringing all those great moments back and it is by far one of my favorite of all times. I even named my flying toy after Her.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I like how Ethel just gives in knowing Lucy really is stronger than her
Haha I love that part!
This looks beautiful! I’ve never seen this colorized.
I know right!
There are so many good memories to this show with laughter.
Agreed!
wow just amazing in color! i already love this show, but in color its just extraordinary
I agree!
I used to hate watching any colorized film or TV show because the color looked so fake. This is one of the BEST jobs I have ever seen!
CBS really did an AMAZING job!
Amazing how well they can colorize nowadays...pretty impressive.
Thank you Grandma for introducing your grandkids and your granddaughters and your mother this show
That’s how I was introduced too!
This is really good colorization. Colors are vivid and realistic and no creeping black and white around the edges of everything which is plainly a poorly done colorization. I still prefer I Love Lucy in black and white, but the color when well done is fun and interesting to see.
I think the same thing!
Thanks for starting my day with a laugh. Now I want to rewatch all these episodes! 💞
I actually prefer black and white for this
Many do, although this color is a lot easier to enjoy then the original colorizations, which included downgrades resolution and a whopping 16 colors.
Colorization never gets the skin tones right. They look like mannequins.
I agree 100%. The black and white look makes the show timeless in my opinion...😎👍
It looks amazing in color!
I know right!
Today is the anniversary of my parents' wedding and my mom LOVED I Love Lucy. They had 53 good years together and I don't mind watching I Love Lucy anytime but especially today. Thanks for making this video!
Love I love lucy! It's so nice to see it in color for a change! You can see the details so much better!
They really did a great job!
The fashion is so divine .
I know right!
IT LOOKS SO NICE IN COLOR I WISH THEY ALL WERE, ITS A ONE OF A KIND CLASSIC SERIES.
I know right!
Haha haha lolz! Ethel cracks me up every time! “I’m not wearing a bussell...”
😂
Bustle
Thanks I had never seen I Love Lucy in color B4. Best scene 👌 for me has always been the William Holden @ Brown Derby. 4:50 the way she smacks the dough and smile on her face "Happy Little Loaf" 😆
I desperately wish we could've seen Desi's face when he said "I don't give you enough money!?" 🤣
Haha!
The color is nice but there's something about the black and white which I will always like better. Probably because it gives it a classic appeal as well as timeless. It allows the viewer to kind of "go back in time" to when it was originally aired, experiencing it for the first time. The color almost makes it unreal.
Some people certainly think that!
The color shows the unconventional color schemes between sets and costumes, in order for them to show up properly in black and white.
Nah it's a LOT better in colour
I will take color over black and white any day!
2022 who still Loves Lucy?💙
Part of me really wants to try to do bread like Lucy and put in the 13 cakes of yeast, just to see what it does. However the rational side of me is thinking about the mess it would be to clean up. My rational side wins.🙆🏼♀️🤣
Haha!
Remember reading that they actually found a bakery to specially bake the bread, up until reading this I didn't even think it was a real loaf of bread. It was rye because it kept better, and after filming the episode they actually sliced it up and shared it with the audience
@@heatherr0420 I read the same thing!
The oven must have been a TARDIS. There is no way that bread would fit in that oven.
@@Wolfinger1935
It was baked in a professional bakery in one of those enormously wide ovens.
Im the same as lucy i drain my bank account every month 🤣🤣
The best show ever, I had a pair of parakeets that I named Lucy and Desi, I will always be a fan ❤😊.
Aww!!
One thing that I learned about from the episode of pioneering was that loaf of bread was really bread. After the taping of the episode, the cast and crew shared it with the audience. They broke bread together. Really special. The show had a bakery make it just for the episode. This is still probably my most favorite show ever and it was on nearly 40 years before I was born. So cool. It will always bring me great laughs.
Best show ever!!!! 💕😍😍😍💕💗💗
It is!
I'm definitely a huge I love Lucy fan they really need to redo it definitely in Color it looks amazing
I know right!
Fun fact: The giant bread loaf was real and was cut into pieces and shared with the audience
That actually happened! Crazy to think of a bread loaf that big!
@@Ross-117 it’s possible if you got the time, money, and the wrong cooking measurements
@@Wingedlight-nn4hl
And a big professional bakery oven.
I get hungry every time I see that! Fresh baked bread is a heavenly treat. The smell it leaves in the house is unbelievable. I am drooling already.
It cracked me up that the rack itself grew long with the bread!
fred was so low key funny!
I know right!
High key! He and Desi had the funniest lines in my opinion
The yellow fridge in the kitchen should be white, but as a whole the colorization job is excellent
I Love Lucy 📺 TV show so much to 👀 watch while a little girl I enjoyed watching the re-runs of the show just as I do years later while an adult to watch time after time.↗ Love peace & respect to Lucy and all the other actors and actresses that starred on the show.😘
😃
This looks so good.
CBS really did such a good job!
What a lovely to see the color ver old film ♥️
Yes!!
I was born in late 1956. I Love Lucy has been on in reruns my entire life. The best thing about staying home sick from school was lying in bed and watching the Ricardos and the Mertzes. Even as a little kid l could appreciate the the snide remarks and insults that they threw at each other.
This is probably my favorite show
Me too!
Amazing show, beautiful colors
Agreed!
Checking out samples of these colorized Lucy episodes....looks like i'm sold. Gonna have to fork out $$ and order the DVD set!! i've seen every episode numerous times growing up, but I wanna see them again in beautiful color
I bought the complete dvd set which was great, there are (b/w) episodes that you can find there that aren’t on streaming services. The Complete Color Collection has all but one (The Paris episode) of the episodes they colorized.
I'm 75 years old. Been watching since I was six.
Oh those were the days! When the funniest thing ,ON television, Wasn't the RABBIT ears/antenna 😮❤😊❤WE ❤LOVE ❤LUCY❤
I think color helps this play to younger people who did not grow up with black and white. It gives it a new feel. The people who chose the color for the items on screen get it wrong a lot. For example, as far as I know kitchen appliances of the day only came in white (Stove and Refrigerator).
I totally agree. I’m not sure about the appliances though, didn’t they come in light blue as well?
Beautiful!!!
It really is!
Absolutely beautiful
It really is!
So glad Desi had the foresight to shoot this show on 35mm film so CBS would have good quality to work with in the future.
I always think about that too! Some of the other shows that originally filmed on the new color system were in much worse quality. This holds up so so well.
This is so awesome😍. I love this show😘
Me too!
Loved this series my favorite
Me too!
LOVE LOVE !!
I would rewatch everything if it was remastered in color
Me too!
I love lucy
😃
Always and forever lucy 😍🥰🤩💖💝💗💓💞💕
I'm sorry, I know I'm in the minority on this one, but I personally prefer watching the series in classic BLACK & WHITE. It brought out that priceless nostalgia of this legendary iconic program in my opinion...🤔
A lot of people think that, I don’t know what I prefer it depends on the mood I am in.
I feel the same way. There's something weird about it being colorized...mainly because of how saturated and unnatural it all looks. Still, it's interesting too see.
Honestly, it seems that more people prefer the original black and white versions over colorization and not just with this. Maybe people who prefer the originals are much more vocal about it, but it seems that colorization has gotten such intense backlash, whether it was when it was in it's infancy or the modern technology. It seems that many absolutely despise it. The thing to remember though is that the original black and white versions aren't going anywhere, and colorization is merely an alternative rather than a replacement or a modern version. And anyone who doesn't like colorization certainly doesn't have to watch stuff that way. Personally, I'm a big fan of colorization. I was absolutely blown away by it with my first major exposure to it many years ago. Last year, I collected all of the colorized material of The Three Stooges. I already owned all the main shorts, but I definitely prefer the colorized versions of the 20 shorts that were colorized, and some of the additional colorized material is very enjoyable as well. Even though there will always be haters of colorization, I'm glad it still has its fans that can appreciate all the effort put into it and what it brings to entertainment that is famous for a reason.
When Ethel cuts Lucy’s spaghetti with a little sewing scissors 😂😆🤣
😂I love that part
I miss this. Sadly, alot of these episodes you can't even find anywhere anymore. I have all the big subscriptions for tv add ons, even CBS & they have only a select few of each season 😭
If you want the episodes not included in the streaming packages, you can find them airing on tv occasionally or you can buy the full dvd set CBS made, it goes on sale for 25 dollars sometimes and it really is a great deal.
The colors are so vibrant I love it
Me too!
Best show ever made!
This was excellent!
Thanks!
My favorite shows .I LOVE her and Desi. The best comedy actress ever. Vivian and William were great also
Love the neon red hair.
I really like it colored because if feels more real!! It's really interesting bc my reality in Latina America is really different, and since it takes a long time to tv show to reach here lol, i don't feel like it's really old!
Thank you for sharing!!
Great story!
They need to do it, all in color. I'm a big fan of I Love Lucy. I would buy it in a second
Thank you ❣️ it's always fun 🙂
