A great cross over of shows. At last, Lucy understands Ricky's Spanish.
"I've been laying down the law, and it just lays there!" I laughed out loud!
Never knew Lucy/Desi carried over their I Love Lucy characters into other shows. Love it.
I didn't either.
I think this was the only time they did that, other than solo guest shots (like Arnaz on 'Our Miss Brooks').
The Williams family appeared i the Lucy/Desi Comedy Hour before this episode aired. When CBS bought The Danny Thomas Show (after ABC canceled his show) that must be where they up with this idea, which is very clever.
Both were produced by Desilu.
Never saw this
I love this! Oh how I wish cute sitcoms like this could be found nowadays.
Young Sheldon
Yes wouldn’t it be great if there were some original and funny story lines again?
There are hundreds of good comedy series. Most of which are much less sexist than this one. Not that this isn’t great but it’s a product of it’s time of course.
Thank God for re-runs!! I watch The Mary Tyler Moore show every night. I miss those days 🙂
I'm 71 and I watch I Love Lucy, Leave it to Beaver, Ozzie and Harriet, My Three Sons, Andy Griffith, Donna Reed, etc.
All I have to say is God bless Danny Thomas. St. Jude is the best. He didn't go in with the Vegas crowd. And I remember the Danny Thomas show.
Ok, so this is the same DAnny Thomas who started the St. Judes Cancer Research Centre in Tennessee. Great work. God be praised
I applaud them and support them always
In some ways this is almost like watching a "lost episode" or a never seen before episode of I Love Lucy. Or at this time The Lucy and Desi comedy hour.
Yes, I believe that Lucy had mentioned that Danny and cast agreed to guest star on The Luci-Desi Comedy Hour, with the promise that they in turn would be guest stars on The Danny Thomas Show.
I had never seen this episode, or any other episode of this series. What a special treat to basically view an episode of "I Love Lucy" that I had never seen before, after all of these years.
I am a huge fan of Lucy and her shows and can't tell you what a treat this episode was. Will be sharing with my family, ASAP. I Love Lucy is one of the shows that I was raised on.
Ditto.@@Digital_David
@@Digital_David I hope you see more episodes of "The Danny Thomas Show". It was one of the longest-lasting series on American television. It generated tons of series. It's not your fault that you haven't seen this series. Although it was rerun for many, many years, programmers of this classic series haven't kept up programming it, like "I Love Lucy". "The Danny Thomas Show" was Desilu Production's third hit series, after "I Love Lucy" and "Our Miss Brooks". This episode was a sequel to the "Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour" episode, 'The Ricardos Meet the Williamses"
love love this soooo much ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yes, this was a lot of fun to watch!!
How precious! If you listen closely at around 20:40 you can hear Lucille Ball's mother Dede in the audience doing her "Uh-oh!" as she did for the Lucy series all throughout!
A Mother's love ❤❤
20:44- it was part of the laugh track
I thought I heard her! Laugh track or not... it was there included!
I never knew that ! That’s so sweet ❤
@@angelica351aAbsolutely
This episode is much better than the trash on television today
So true 🥺
If I’m not mistaken, it even sounds like Lucy’s mother was in the audience; pretty sure I heard at least one of her trademark “UH-oh!”s 😂
Does anyone remember,, this is the man who financed an brought St Jude’s hospital for children w/ cancer into being. Just think how many little ones have had their cancer healed by this wonderful Research Hospital Danny Thomas knew.he had been blessed mightily, an he unselfishly began this tremendous gift of Hope to countless American families. That costs them nothing. It’s truly a gift of Love 💕
How great! More of the Ricardos! I never knew about this episode. Thanks so much for posting it!
I never knew this existed either. Sure glad I ran across it
Yes
THis is like a lost episode of I Love Lucy
Only thing missing is Ethyl and Fred
They had Danny & Kathy as substitutes, which was good - but I prefer Fred & Ethel.
You spelled Ethel like an old-time grade of gasoline! - hehehaha

I heard that Lucy argued with director Sheldon Leonard about where she would enter the scene. He held his ground and explained that he had a purpose which was to reveal the scene gradually as she entered. She yielded. After Desi told Sheldon good job, she was testing you.
She did that to Bill Asher as well. And to nearly every director she worked with. She was testing them to see if they were awake and paying attention to the script and her role. She relied totally on the writers to show her character and wanted to make sure the director knew that script and what Ball was doing in that episode. She loved it if the director fired back at her and showed some backbone. Arnaz was there as a sort of inside judge to make sure the director di jour was told about being tested.
I remember these shows when every generation could watch and enjoy together. They were simply fun.
So glad I saw this , it was like watching a new I Love Lucy, I wish there were more of these
She loved and enjoyed appearing in other shows .. couldn’t be more fun for them loving what they do as Artists giving the audience the satisfaction and excitement they’d carry for ages (us now after so many decades) plus the shared credits. You caught her with Carol Burnett, right?
@@hana.the.writer5074 yes,
Terrific Ricardo vs Williams marriage situation - and quite a fashion/jewelry show too.
I always loved watching Lucy, brings back memories from my childhood .❤
This was truly funny and charming.
No disputing that the husbands/wives dynamic here is ancient history, but for those of us who’ve enjoyed every Lucy/Desi episode many times, it’s still a treat to find this.
I'm sure it's largely a fake dynamic created for comedic purposes, not a reflection of actual reality.
I loved Danny Thomas he was a great entertainer.
We used to watch Danny Thomas back in the day. I love the original B&W shows
I feel so lucky, so privileged to have grown up in an era when shows like these were on the air 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I feel privileged to see them now! I always loved Lucy's fashion style, too.
Me too!
What fun way to look back at the past and remember these show on our old black and white TV thank you
Orbach's!! That glorious dress shop. My godfather treated me to a dress for my birthday sooooo many years ago. What wonderful memories.
Jerry Orbach, the great actor, was a member of that family. My aunt, who never married, after graduating as valedictorian and suma cum laude from Baylor University, in 1956, went to CA for a graduation trip. She went to Orbachs and bought several beautiful dresses, hats and shoes. She grew up on a dairy, in rural Texas. She was a teacher and went to teach school in Germany. She was living in East Berlin when the wall went up a d Americans had to return to America. I used one of those hats, it was a Juliet cap with pearls and sequins, white, as part of my wedding veil in 1980.
I remember that department store on 34th Street between 5th & 6th Ave in NYC. I shopped there in the 1970’s.
@@uwsgrrrl9981I remember being there in the early 70s on 34th street. It was a bit of a discount store as I remember. It was known as a place for good deals before the explosion of discount stores.
"You'll Love it at Orbach's" was their motto ..Nice store
@@andyvanm1 "You'll love it at Levitz." A chain furniture store.
Back when writing had to be creative and interesting.... BRILLIANT
RIP YOU WONDERFUL STARS.
Very interesting. This was filmed in 1959, near the end of Lucy and Desi's marriage. Their characters have a harder edge, and Lucy seems more like her characters in her later series. The sweetness of Lucy Ricardo is but a memory.
Yes, that's what I noticed, too. Nice to see an episode which you usually don't see featuring the Ricardos, but very true that you can see that they have both hardened somewhat, especially Lucy. You will note that they don't have a lot of scenes together. I am sure that by this time, they were barely speaking to each other.
Lucy filed for divorce in April 1960.
@@Lampshade51 They started calling each other Mr. Arnaz or Miss Ball.
When this show was rerun on tv..years later..Ms.Lucie Arnaz introduced Mr.Thomas as her Godfather.
Great!! Thanks!! Watching these old shows is so much better for my mental health than crime drama!
So true, I used to watch so much true crime (starting to get depressing hearing about another creep who think they have the rights to other, innocent people), so lately I have really been binge watching these old feel good, comedy shows from 50s, 60s and 70s.
OMG!! I remember the Danny Thomas Show!!!!
It was a funny show. Danny Thomas is the founder of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis, TN. The children’s cancer treatments are free. It’s a wonderful organization. Please look into it & donate if you can.
The song is so unforgettable. What memories it conjures up. I was just about 5 years old.
The Lucy Desi Comedy Hour with Danny Thomas was the best among the 13 episodes along with Tallulah Bankhead .
Yes!!!
Those are 2 of my favorites of the '57-'60 series too. Also 'Lucy Gets a Career' with Paul Douglas, and 'Lucy Goes to Japan' with Bob Cummings.
I like the Douglas episode the most. It actually was close to the original series and was pretty well written and funny. Which many of the Comedy Hours weren't. My second favorite was 'The Celebrity Next-door' with Bankhead. For me that is the best across the board, but the Career episode is a personal favorite. @@bobpierce115
The Bankhead show still cracks me up.
I nearly choked to death on my food from laughing so hard uring the one with Milton Beryl! After that, I don't eat while watching Lucy anymore. haha @@bobpierce115
I loved these old tv shows. Thank you
" a new pair of Bongo Covers".......lol ....HYSTERICAL
Originally telecast on January 5, 1959.
Becuase Danny and his cast appeared on the first episode of "THE WESTINGHOUSE LUCILLE BALL-DESI ARNAZ SHOW" {later repeated as "THE LUCY-DESI COMEDY HOUR"} in December 1958, Lucy & Desi agreed to appear on Danny's show in a follow-up to the "Lucy Makes Room For Danny" episode.
Stars often guested on each others' shows instead of getting paid as a way to evade taxes. It usually works out, but Doris Day and Perry Como had an agreement... so Perry thought. Perry guested on her special (it's still up here on YT) but Doris bailed on appearing on Perry's special. He went public about it but I don't know if he sued.
I believe Perry reached a settlement with Doris- out of court- on that one [he preferred not to publicize those kinds of incidents].
@@fromthesidelines You've probably seen the Day special I referenced. I recall that at the end, Perry tossed part of his costume into the fake lake on the set. I wonder if their working relationship had been so unpleasant that she didn't want a repeat of it.
No doubt.
I still remember the snowball fight, I still laugh when I think of it.
Desi and Lucille were boss. Desilu Studios produced many of the sitcoms and shows on TV.
Love how in the end. Ricky wasn't having it that Lucy had changed. He loved her for how she was. Wouldn't imagine changing her.
❤ Lucy and Ricky ❤
Yes! ❤
Thank you for posting this, I LOVE LUCY forever.
Very high quality talent, not typical of 1959. Very funny.
Hard to believe that the Danny Thomas Show and I Love Lucy worlds ever existed.
Ricky wears high heels, as always.
Did anyone else notice that Ricky's necktie was monogrammed "DA" for Desi Arnaz instead of "RR" for Ricky Ricardo? I spotted a blooper!
Wow, great catch!!
This is a total gem! Thanks for posting it ❤😊
Heard of this episode but this is the first time I’ve seen it. Very good quality picture .nice to watch.
Lucy is so hilarious!!!😀❤️
I remembered Angela Cartwright when I saw her in Sound of Music.
And as Penny on Lost in Space.
Just like an I Love Lucy I’ve never seen! Thank you for sharing.
Boy does this bring back great memories of when I was a little kid watching the Lucy show. I never saw this episode even though I used to watch all those sitcoms back in the day. That was when the writing in sitcoms was Superior and creative period
Classic television
Lucy, Ricky, staying with
Danny, Kathy. ❤️🌹♥️🙂
This was WONDERFUL!!! Thank you so much for uploading.
First time that I’ve seen this & I loved this episode!! Just found yesterday and this was filmed prior to my birth. Always loved Lucy and Desi and watching this show is a real treat!! I missed seeing Fred & Ethel but guess they were watching little Ricky. I admire Danny Thomas for founding St. Jude’s Hospital Cancer Research so that the children and families will not have a bill to pay. Danny’ daughter Marlo is a renown actress whom I watched as a child on “That Girl” and today advertises the St. Jude Hospital that her dad founded.😊😊😊❤❤❤
I've loved Lucy over 70 years!!!
So nice to laugh! 😂💕
0le classic TV like these shows are total awesome. Never get tired watching reruns. They will live on forever more....
That was wonderful! It really was like watching a new I Love Lucy episode. We need shows like this that are just funny, with no crap included
This felt like watching a long lost episode! Tnx for uploading it!
OMG, Lucy never gets old. I laughed until I cried and laughed some more
❤Love these Shows with Lucy,Ricky, Danny 😍🤩💫🌟👍👌✌️🙌🙏🇺🇸✝️💟❤️💯✨
I do remember these funny people from way back then ♡
Sid Dorfman took time out from writing for "THE GEORGE BURNS SHOW" to co-write this episode with Artie Stander.
I thought the writing was excellent. I don't usually LOL but this script made me belly laugh! 😂😂😂
I love it!! I love it!!! I remember being small and listening to the finale song! It brought so many beautiful memories!! I was only 2 months old!! 🩵
I love the Rolling credits, song! It’s my favorite Christian song! He looked beyond my faults and saw my needs ! Can’t imagine one show or movie in today’s world where they would play a Christian song unless it’s Christian based. If you don’t know it, it’s beautiful and the beginning goes. Amazing grace will always be my song of praise, for it was grace that bought my liberty… there’s a beautiful rendition of that song here on RUclips and his name is Stephen Akin . “He looked beyond my faults”It’s just him singing with a man on piano. It’s the best one I’ve ever found! If you love Christian music, you’ll love it!
They used the song as 'Oh Danny Boy', not as 'Amazing Grace'. I didn't notice this for years because Danny's theme song was so jazzy. Great to see the old classic shows again!
They don’t make amazing shows like this anymore love this thank you x
Absolutely loved it!! Thanks
This was awesome. Sad I just came across it. I Love Lucy.!!
One of the funniest!!!
Awesome! ...
Remember watching The Danny Thomas Show: ....
Never saw this episode before.
I'm 70 now....

My Mom loved watching I Love Lucy, & I still love watching them too.......

everyone loves Lucy ❤ but who'd had thought Ricky's acting would be charming the same
That was so cool..I never saw episode before...(when TV was fun to watch!)
Russians would pay for the plans to Lucy was a great way to put it
As a child I grew up on both the reruns of Danny Thomas and I love Lucy. There where funny family shows in one show we had Ethan and Fred, ricky Jr. and the other show we had rusty and uncle tanuce. What a pear of great shows still funny after over 70 years ago
Very funny! Never heard of this episode before.
Loved it.
We didnt miss an episode! Tgey were amazing! Nothing like this today!❤❤❤❤
The writers and Lucille... was way ahead of the times! 😁
I finally realized that I don't care for Lucy Carmichael, Lucy Carter or any other Lucy. I only love Lucy Ricardo (and maybe Lucy Mcgillicuddy).
Lucy probably tried too hard to keep the franchise going for too long. 🍿🎭🍿
Lucille Ball was such a joy… Thanks for uploading 😀 I just found your channel this evening!!! Yay for me 😀
Lucy was never like that in her own show. She hid anything she bought, she hid anything she did because she knew Ricky would get mad. Lol
I guess Little Ricky was being taken care of by Fred & Ethel at the house in Connecticut while Lucy & Ricky were in New York with Danny & Kathy.
Little Ricky on the show was not their real son.
@@katielove9932 Yeah, I know that, I was referring to the characters on the show, making a joke. Apparently that went right over your clueless head.
Or maybe he wasn’t born yet.
@@phillipsmom6252 Little Ricky had definitely been born. This Danny Thomas show was from 1959 and Little Ricky had been born on an I Love Lucy episode from 1953. On I Love Lucy the Ricardos moved to their house in Connecticut with Little Ricky during the shows from 1957. Lucy was calling Ricky from Connecticut about being arrested, since Danny told Ricky to bring Lucy to New York so they could stay at his apartment while he and Ricky were working together. Ricky mentioned the time Danny and his family rented the Ricardos house in Connecticut, so this took place after that and Little Ricky was definitely around.
Loved it. Ty😂
Lucy gives a brilliant, heartfelt performance!
Just read between the lines & parse HER words!!
They resonate MORE 2day '23...than when this show originally aired!!! ❤👍
Love this!! ❤
Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz were the unbilled executive producers of The Danny Thomas Show . Danny Thomas exective produced many shows that were done at Desilu studios . The Danny Thomas Show was moved from ABC to the old CBS time slot of ILL. The Thomas show could be summared as Danny would get upset about something real or imagined. He wold do a lot of yelling then calm down say he was sorry and at the end do a wistful song in a warm matter . He did that for seven years in the ILL slot .
Lucy and Desi had nothing to do with Danny’s production company from a creative standpoint. They rented Danny studio space which is why the credits said “Filmed by Desilu”. Once the Arnazes bought the old RKO studios, they rented studio space to other production companies. But Desilu had no financial interest in these shows. The true Desilu shows were billed as “A Desilu Production” and included The Untouchables, Our MIss Brooks, Mission: Impossible, and Star Trek.
Is this the same Danny Thomas who started the Children's Cancer Research Centre in Tennessee?
@@maryrao634 The same great entertainer .

Gosh, I just loved "I Love Lucy". 💗
Angela Cartwright is holding her "Linda Williams" doll! :P! cute! LOVE THIS! I don't remember this!
I love both shows and this episode was the best combination of both iconic actors, actresses.
Oh such fun! Thanks.
