Hey Chaps - If you're not sold on the Fold 3... what COULD Samsung do to convince you to buy the Fold 4?
Update: I am aware of Labs for aspect ratios, I tried it, but in IG for example it still cuts off stories. So only a partial fix

The o only people I know that use tablets and iPads are little kids, high schoolers trying to stunt on each other and adults that actually find a use for them and likely spend big bucks on laptops as well and the latter two will not continue investing in tablets and iPads after high school therefore the loyal market for iPads and tablets isn't as big as the mainstream market for phones and laptops plus for bulk of those who use iPads they likely only like to use iphones leaving the main z fold buyers tablet users which is a smaller market than the iPad users. No matter have great this phone becomes it will never be a mainstream device no matter how popular it gets. Many people view tablets as a gimmick in general. Having dropped owning a desktop or laptop for a few years now I had a larger screen hole in my tech. Use my fold 3 daily and I couldn't go back to a candy bar phone again tbh. The outer screen is easily usable, even for on screen keyboard, with very few mistakes with typo's. Sure improvements can be made and likely will be with the fold 4 but I felt so staved of anything interesting in form factor for so many years now. The fold is real innovation, and it works well!

  • @GameKollector
    @GameKollector 3 года назад +15

For the Fold 4... The aspect ratio of both screens needs to change. The cover screen is way too narrow and inner screen is basically a square.
The Fold 4 should have a Note like cover screen (wider and shorter) and that would change the inner screen aspect ratio to something better hopefully.

Personally, I prefer the Z Fold 3 over the S21 Ultra *because* when folded the phone is narrower than the S21 Ultra slab. I have smaller hands and have a greater probability of dropping the S21 Ultra when forced to use it one-handed --- just like I have done with every Note phone I have ever owned. As I get older, I appreciate the larger screen. I also can't handhold the S21 Ultra steady enough to appreciate its telephoto zoom or high pixel standard camera --- without using a tripod or some other external stabilization. I rather switch over to my mirrorless cameras, and so I find the Z Fold 2's cameras to be just fine.
As for the UDC, I guess Samsung should have an option to always have it turned off to avoid complaints that it doesn't hide the punch hole well enough when enabled.
Also, it is interesting to see just how thick the S21 Ultra is compared to an unfolded Z Fold as well as in its folded state. Z Fold balances so well in my hand when unfolded.

Great the S21U works for you. 2 caveats worth noting though.. few pay list price for a newly released Samsung phone and very few reviewers are extolling the virtues of the included Dex feature . I got my Fold 3 at the same price I paid for my Note 9 3-years ago in the UK. I've had the Fold 3 for 5 days (for work and leisure) and I can safely say I will not be going backwards to a Note or similarly styled candy bar phone. Foldable tablets are the future for mobile communications IMO and whilst it's not perfect at the moment people like me don't buy these things for the camera performance as few print pictures anymore.

Using the S20 Ultra, I realize how much I've missed the much better cameras (especially the surprisingly useful 4x optical zoom) but at the same time, I keep missing the bigger screen on the Fold 2.
Fortunatly, my insurance company covered the entire repair cost of what would have been £1520 if converted (minus the £100 deducted). Because the cost of repairing the entire thing is so high, I instead opted to upgrade to Fold 3, which at least won't break because of a little water. ^^ Whether or not I'll be using the S Pen and the carry case that's included when pre-ordering, only time will tell.

For the Fold 3 to be the perfect foldable, It must have flagship cameras, a larger battery, a built-in fold edition pen, and an IP68 rating.
If they increase the width of the outside screen, they will have space for all of that, just like what Huawei did with their Mate X2. With increasing the width, they will also solve the problem of having a too narrow outside screen.
This way, all Note users will be more than happy to make the switch.
The biggest challenges are the dust rating and lowering the price.

I think smartphones, tablets and laptops are three distinct markets and that merging one with another simply has not been proved as yet as anything other than compromises? The MS hybrid tablet/laptop managed to get some loyal fans but the market is niche and now stagnant as buyers realise that it is not a great solution? So far, I am unconvinced that the other spectrum, phone/tablet is anything other than just doing it because you can and is cool! I am sure a small fan base will buy it, I mean the LG Wing, I think 30,000 people bought that, so even with a brand killing phone, you will get buyers!
We will give it the chance and see where we go, but so far it has been underwhelming and the pricing just takes it to the sublimely ridiculous? I have a different opinion on the Flip, as that is a fashion accessory and will appeal to certain demographics, fun, cool and different? It is of course not a great phone per se, and you have to buy into the foldable non-value reasoning, but it has a place especially with teens and those bored with candy bar phones?
Not that I would choose the S21U over the Fold3, as I would buy neither, but yes a “normal” phone will remain my de facto choice as I have no need for a bigger display when out and about, a phablet does nearly everything very well, and I also would not run my business off an Android 8-inch foldable!

      I think that's a fair analysis!
